  1. So, Im going to be attending college within a few months doing a bachelors in computer science engineering, I have nothing good to do in these months so i thought why not level up my skills a little, which I don't really have any except the python I learnt in school, now it's not much but I know basic stuff (if/elses, loops ,lists/tupples/dictionaries,functions, handling text files/binary files/csv files) and using mysql library to handle some dbms stuff, i wanna learn some more but ii don't know what to learn where to learn from, I want to get into making atleast 1 small project, I am really interested in ML and would also like to try some Iot stuff with a raspberry pi, but i have no idea how to go on about those things, what libraries to learn, and where and how should I learn them, I've been using IDLE to do python until now, so I have no idea what code editor should I even use, please help me out.
  2. Budget: $2000 Programs or workloads that it will be used for: an excess amount of internet browser tabs, beam.ng, GTA6, tarkov, 3dsmax, blender, CNC programs, mainly heavy gaming looking to build my forever computer, $2000 budget, would be dope to keep it around $1500 I have no parts leftover from my last computer so I'm starting over. I have a ton of free time with how the market is so I'll be using the computer alot for the next year or so, possibly daily. also any monitor suggestions? was thinking maybe a regular monitor then a monitor that's tilted, whatever they're called. also if you know anything about mouses, keyboards, headsets let me know lol, I don't have a setup at all currently, thanks
  3. Hey guys, I'm new to home servers, and I'm currently running Ubuntu server Lts on an old MacBook pro, with a docker container spun up for Adguard (this is what got me started) I'm inheriting a Dell PowerEdge r210ii with 12GB DDR3 and 4x500GB HDD Other potential useful information: I have bell Aliant fibe 1Gb and a R7000 — Nighthawk AC1900 Smart WiFi Dual Band Gigabit Router, What I would like to do maybe not even all at once, is the following (in priority): -Secure my network -Have baby monitoring cameras not accessible to the outside world (just my wife's and my phones/PC/tablet) -have security cameras that we can monitor and record but not pay a cloud fee, and is secure (separate VLAN?) -home automation that doesn't touch the outside world but can still use Alexa to control (preferably no monthly fees) -set up my own cloud storage -have a media server I'm not necessarily looking for a step by step guide, but am just a little overwhelmed by everything that is out there and need a little push in the right direction, especially to just get started. Any input/video tutorials/articles would be greatly appreciated! Ill be happy to provide additional information as needed too:)

  6. Hey there y'all. New to PC building, also new to this site. Had a few questions about this build I am doing. I have a MSI Tomahawk B450 Max, Ryzen 7 5800x. I'm wanting to add more ram to my build due to the amount of programs I use. I currently have TeamGroup T-Force Delta 32gb 3600mhz DDR4(2 sticks, 16gb each.) I'm wanting to order another pair to add onto my B450 Max. Looking up if I could add this amount of ram has been a very confusing process for me. It is listed that the mother board can only support up to 4133 mhz of ram, Yet there are a multitude of people saying it can support my 64gb of DDR4 (even pc part picker.) As said before I am new to not only building, but as well as this website so I am very sorry if this is confusing. I guess my question is "If my current ram is 3600mhz, and I order another pair of the same ram, wouldn't that make the total mhz 6200, Making it not compatible for my motherboard?" All responses greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.
  7. Budget (including currency): +/- 4500 Euro Country: Belgium Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AAA 4K gaming and video editing. Other details: Hello everyone! (excuse my english) I'm looking to see if anyone can help me out with this pc I'm planning to have build. As my current setup is over 5 years old, it's time to start out fresh again. My current need for the pc is to have something that can do well in 4K gaming and potentialy some video editing. For some context: - I'll be using this pc in a somewhat enclosed room with possibility of having an open window. Temps can get to +/- 30C in the summer - I do not have favor towards a brand, but would stick with intel if possible, as it's been my go to for all my pc years - There are no plans to upgrade this pc bit by bit, the next upgrade would most likely be a complete new build. Looking for some potential years os use - I'm not looking to min/max, unless my budget allows it - I play many different genres of games and I'm not deadset on one single game. Games consist of the more populair triple A titles - Functionality over looks. But if the components just happen to match... well... you know what i mean - ... ask away! As for the build, I'm setting my mind on a RTX4080. Reason why is that,I'm getting a big boost for an upgrade anyway, I'd rather spend the money difference from an rtx4090 on improving the other components. Is this a smart move? You tell me, please. Here is the component list, with current seller prices. (from place where pc is being built). (build based on google search info) - CPU: Intel® Core i9-14900KF, 3,2 GHz (6,0 GHz Turbo Boost) socket 1700 processor € 619,00 - Graphics Card: MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB SUPRIM X € 1.479,00 - Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS PRO X socket 1700 € 449,00 - RAM: Corsair Dominator Titanium 48 GB DDR5-7200 € 291,00 - SSD1 : SAMSUNG 990 PRO, 2 TB (Games etc.) € 179,90 - SSD2: SAMSUNG 980 PRO, 500 GB (Windows Location) € 79,90 - Power: Corsair RM1000x (2021) 1000W € 199,90 - CPU Cooler: Lian Li Galahad II LCD SL-INF 360 € 289,00 - Operating sys: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro 64bit € 179,90 - Case: Lian Li LANCOOL III RGB midi tower € 169,90 Total price: € 4.086,40 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NfmzXk (Only for parts, not pricing) Any info on this would be welcome!
  8. I've posted looking for advice on r/buildapc and the PCPartPicker forums and received no responses, so I'm hoping I can get some advice here. I hope this post is formatted okay. I have tried to research on my own, but I'd like some other people's opinions before buying. (Will be buying on Black Friday) Budget (including currency): Under £1000 Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I play a lot of older games but some newer ones I'd like to be able to play are: Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 2/3/4 Remake, Yakuza 0, Persona 3 Reload, Fatal Frame/Project Zero Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, Silent Hill 2 Remake. I also need to be able to run virtual machines, for my college course, I'll need to run a Linux VM and a Windows 7 VM at the same time. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I currently have a really bad prebuilt I bought in 2021 (i5-2400, GTX 1650) and I can't do much with it. I bought a prebuilt because it was basically impossible to get a GPU (I regret it though). I have never built a PC myself, so this is my first time. I'm not buying any more peripherals right now. I have one monitor and it is a 1080p 75hz, I plan to upgrade to two monitors and with a higher refresh rate at some point but will probably be sticking with 1080p. I will be using Windows 10 as my OS, for Linux I will just be running in a VM. I'm upgrading so I can run the games I can't currently play and so that I have a decent computer for college work, since I'm doing Computing/Computer Science. PCPartPicker List: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/gloomysalem/saved/jVj6Bm !!! Current Issue - Motherboard Choice: !!! Right now I'm mostly unsure about motherboard choice, I've been looking at several reviews for B650 motherboards and I'm stuck between the mATX ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 and the ATX ASRock B650 PG LIGHTNING. If there's another motherboard I should consider though, please also let me know. Basically, I'm not sure if it is worth the extra to buy the ATX board or not (I will be using an ATX Mid Tower case either way I think) I don't care about Wi-Fi on the board since I always use wired connection anyway. The two DIMM Slots on the mATX don't bother me, since I'll be buying 2x16GB and sticking with it. Also really sorry if this is me being stupid but the mATX board doesn't have RGB headers, but in the completed builds using it, there are several with ARGB fans on, how is that? I've had a look through the manuals but because I've never build a PC myself, I'm not entirely sure what slots/ports/headers/connectors I should be looking for. I plan on using this PC for a long time after I build it. So I don't mind spending a bit more on certain parts if it's worth it or makes upgrading down the line a bit easier. Reasoning Behind Other Parts: CPU: I chose the Ryzen 5 7600 since it's the cheapest entry point to AM5, and with AM5 I likely have a good upgrade path in the future. Cooler: I chose the AG400, I don't really know what makes a good cooler to be completely honest, so advice about this part would be appreciated. RAM: I'm looking at a 2x16GB 6000MHz CL30 kit because that seems to be the recommended speed/CAS Latency from what I can see. I don't understand the RAM Timings though so I haven't taken that into account. GPU: The 6700XT seems to be the best value to performance right now, and it has 12GB of VRAM. Case/Fans: I don't want to spend too much on a case, I can't reuse my current one because it has terrible airflow. Ideally I'd like a white case with a mesh front, glass side panel and ARGB fans, I'd also prefer an ATX Mid Tower as that's what I currently have. This is how I settled on the Antec NX410. PSU: I picked one based on the cultists PSU tier list. My estimated wattage for this build currently is around 400W - x1.5 and that's 600W, the PSU picked is 750W - I don't know if it's overkill or if it's okay since I won't need to replace it when upgrading in the future. I cannot stress this enough but I would really appreciate any advice at all. Thank you.
  9. As the title suggests I have been trying to get a server up and running on both Ubuntu and Rasberry Pi, however no matter what I do no devices on same or different wifi can connect. I think it is Virgin Media Business (long story) Wifi blocking since the device gives a different IP to whatsmyip so I have no idea which to use and given neither work and the port isn't open according to any port checker despite opening the port, I am a complete beginner and really just want to make a basic Paper/modded server so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  10. I built a new Linux system recently. It has an MSI Pro B760-p WIFI ddr4 and an i5-12400. I am having problems with the Silicon Power 1TB US75 Nvme PCIe Gen4 M.2 2280 SSD. Now, the issue is that it has not detected the SSD anywhere. In the BIOS or when trying to install Elementary OS. I had to purchase a 2.5in SATA SSD to install my OS. I'm not sure where to go about getting it detected into my system. I have re-installed numerous times as well.
  11. Hello! I'm moving to another country for school in a few months, and I'm looking to set up a NAS to run at my parents' house that I'd still be able to access. I'd leave my brother in charge of maintenance, so the only thing I want to do is transfer files back and forth from my laptop (in the remote location) to the NAS. I'm not necessarily picky on what OS I use, I'm happy to learn anything. I'm leaning towards TrueNAS just because I've seen a few LTT videos using that OS, but it doesn't have to be that.
  12. Hey everyone, I'm new to the keyboard world and I thought I would ask for some help. I'm looking for a mechanical keyboard that has a thocky sound (preferably pre built). I would be willing to buy keyboard, switches, and caps separately if that is the best option. My budget is around 200-250 and I'm looking at either 100% or TKL. I will be using it for gaming and programming. I've done some research but am overwhelmed with the amount of information out there. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance, cdawg

  14. Hey Everyone I was wondering if anyone knows of any resources similar to overthewire.org's guided CTFs, I found Bandit very useful for learning to use BASH. and i really liked that my hand wasn't completely held the whole way, just a list of commands that might be useful, i then looked up the man pages for those commands and and found the password for the next level. i would love an experience like that with Programming Projects, being given a list of Libraries that might be helpful or some sort of mini guide that describes how to solve the problem without just giving me the answer. I really appreciate any knowledge you have to share and thank you for your time.
  15. New Build, https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/zPBHv3 Keeps crashing when I run games, buzzing noise and flashing green for about 10 seconds then the system freezes. Drivers are up to date and I did flash to the latest bios. It's stable in windows. I don't know where to start to fix this as this is my first build. Please help 20230713_194541~3.mp4
  16. I am looking to create an OS that will run on Replit.com, a cloud-based coding website for those of you who don’t know, and am looking for advice and assistance. I barely know python and want to learn to code it in a different language because I know that python is not very efficient for things like this, and also would like to learn more languages to be a more advanced programmer. If you need more info, just ask.
  17. I'm pretty sure this is a faulty card, but thought I'd make a post anyway just in case anyone had experienced this and/or had any suggestions I have a Nvidia Founders Edition 3090 GPU that for some reason will not turn on when the system is powered on. The fans on the card are spinning but the lights on the side and middle do not light up, and there is no output through the HDMI or the Display ports. I have had issues like this before recently, and I reseated the card and then it worked again with no issue. In trying to fix this I found 2 things that may have been big booboos: The first is the BIOS was outdated (I have flashed this to the lastest version now and still no luck) And second is that I was daisy chainging the power to the card (also fixed) When I did fix the power issue, the card started, then windows launched, I opened the desktop and seconds later everything froze, and I had to restart and upon restarting, the card is once again not turning on I don't have another GPU to test whether it is the issue, but I have troubleshooted everything else I can think of All connections are correct and secure The card is seated correctly Power cables are correct But still no boot PC Specs are here: https://ie.pcpartpicker.com/user/TheWhoDoctor/saved/XZBbK8 Any help or advice or even ujst observations would be helpful Thanks! (This is a first PC of mine so I'm not too familiar with building but I believe I have done everything right)

  22. Introduction Hello! I have made a post similar to this couple years back in 2021. However, I never got around to actually making the build because of some unfortunate events that had caused me to delay said build. Then again, this also allowed me to have a larger budget to afford a new PC. But I will still need to gut out my GPU from my current build because I don't want to spend $800 on a graphics card I won't be benefiting from right away, I think my GTX 1070 should do the job. Therefore, I have made a new build on PC Part Picker to hopefully better suit my needs. My goal is to basically create a long lasting PC with a fair upgrade path in the 13th generation of intel CPUs and upgrade my GPU to a RTX card in the future. In my list, I picked the i5 13th gen Intel CPU, which I plan to buy the i9 a few years down the line as an upgrade path as well. To me, this makes sense on saving some money upfront and being able to better afford other parts of the PC, like M.2 storage. However, I'm making this post because this will be my first time building a PC on my own and I have a few questions to ask regarding certain parts of the PC. Location & Use Budget (USD): $1,300 Maximum Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Work Related (Art & Practical Use) - 3D Modeling and Animation (ZBrush and Blender) - CAD (Fusion 360) - 3D Printing Slicer Software Personal Use (Video Games & Other) - Large Title Games like BF2042 and other demanding games. - Battlefield 4 - VR (Beat Saber, Onward, & VR Chat) - Photography (Photo Editing) - Other 2D & 3D Software (Gimp & MagicaVoxel) PC Build Specs PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4G8TKp CPU: Intel Core i5-13600K 3.5 GHz 14-Core Processor ($319.83 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Deepcool LS720 85.85 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($131.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: MSI PRO Z790-P WIFI ATX LGA1700 Motherboard ($219.99 @ B&H) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL36 Memory ($120.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 500 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($87.00 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($169.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: EVGA SC GAMING ACX 3.0 GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB Video Card (Purchased For $0.00) Case: NZXT H9 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair RM650x (2021) 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($104.99 @ Amazon) Total: $1154.78 Questions I Have 1) I plan to experiment around with overclocking the i5-13600K, this is the reason why I went with the Deepcool LS720. To further elaborate, my specific reason is to have a more than sufficient enough cooling as to prevent damaging the CPU if I happen to make a mistake and to also keep my PC as quiet as it can be. Does this make sense for me to choose the LS720 or should I go for the LS520? 2) Motherboards, I'm honestly mostly in the dark when it comes to motherboards. My requirements are to have 4 M.2 slots for storage and Ethernet, yet I haven't got a clue for what to look out for in a motherboard. What I do know is that I do want the latest motherboard designed for the 13th gen Intel CPUs, especially to eventually handle the i9 13th gen I plan to buy as an upgrade in the future. Is the choice of my motherboard a good one? Also, if you can, what should I specifically look for in a motherboard to determine it's quality? 3) DDR5 is pretty new to me, in fact, I currently run DDR3 in my PC. I want to go with DDR5 for future proofing my PC, I don't want to be stuck with last gen RAM like I was stuck with DDR3 when DDR4 was the norm. I have seen recommendation favoring 5600 DDR5 RAM, was this a good choice of RAM? 4) Storage, I plan to mostly just use M.2 SSDs for my storage. I could use normal internal SSDs, but I do know the general benefits of M.2 being a lot faster and easier to install. I plan to upgrade my storage in the future by filling up all 4 slots, each slot has it's own specialized use, and increasing storage size as my workload needs increase as well. The Samsung 980 Pro is one I have been recommended quite a lot for reliability and warranty, but Kingston's NV2 is way cheaper with the downside of lower quality and warranty. Is Kingston's M.2 Gen 4 RAM good as a boot drive or should I still stick with the 500GB Samsung 980 Pro? Final Note: This is all I can think of at the moment for my questions I have, but there is one thing I didn't think would be very relevant when it came to my dedicated questions. More so, this is just talking about PC cases. I really would like to get the NZXT H9 Flow, I think the design's aesthetics are a lot more improved over the O11 from Lian Li. Has there been any word on when they will have it back in stock? Anyway, thank you very much for reading my post!(˶′◡‵˶) If you happen to respond with some advice and general help, I'll very much appreciate your efforts as I'm someone who is new to PC building.
  23. Budget (including currency): What I'm trying to find out Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 2D and 3D art Hello! Beginner here. I have decided to start saving to make my own computer for making art with, and I was wondering what goal I should shoot for. My current goal is £2000, is that overboard for what I'm trying to achieve? (I currently have £150 saved up) I don't plan on doing SERIOUS HARDCORE GAMING with this ideal computer, the only reason I'd need a good graphics card is for rendering stuff in Blender or whatever, and I know that the biggest bottleneck in price is usually the graphics card. Thoughts? I appreciate any and all input
  24. Budget (including currency): 2000 USD Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: STM32, SolidWorks, MATLAB, League of Legends, COD MW2, Assassin Creed Vahalla, Payday 2, Genshin Impact & some video editing(once in a while) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): (update: I have the other post earlier but microcenter ran out of the 12700k combo when i got there ) Hi guys, I'm building my 1st pc and needed some help on motherboard and cooler suggestions. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fMtMxs These parts were bought during sale and I intended to get a rtx4700/amd 7800 graphics card when launched. (I also had bought a 1440p 165hz monitor) I also bought a Arc 770 as a temporary transition card. I would use the setup for some productivity work and feel free to give me any suggestions that u got!
