As an Australian that has a interest in Cyber Security (Looking to improve it for the better), taking a page from the USA's book is not a smart move. We receive the same amount of press about how the NSA is invaded other countries and imposing on its on nation but yet still follow in their foot steps assuming its a good idea. Hi, I am currently with Telstra as my ISP and phone line. My contract is over and was wondering if anyone else has changed from them and gone elsewhere. Currently paying about $170 a month for 500gb download and free calls to everything. I have my mobile through Optus and know if i go with them i get a discount and for the same thing im looking at about $115 a month. The question is do i switch to someone else completely different or do i go to Optus to save money or do i stay with Telstra and pay the extra money for what i know is decent. Any questions or ideas would be very welcome and my speedtest results for telstra are about 9Mbps down and .8Mbps up with a 22ping. yes i pay $170 a month for that crap and it wont change for the next few years as the NBN wont be in my area until at earliest 2016. Hence why i am thinking save money. After all my checking and calling around spending hours upon hours trying to find better and/or cheaper i come to the conclussion i have 1 option which is Telstra at $170 a month as no other ISP has access in my area and if they do there connection speed is only half as good as mine for not much less money. God Australia Sucks

Hi I’m looking at building my first DIY gaming PC for around the $1000 mark, I want to be able to play games like BattleField 4 resemble will. I live in Australia so I’m getting my computer parts from “PC case gear” which is one of the cheapest stores in Australia. This is what I’m think so far Motherboard: $119 ASUS M5A97 R2.0 CPU: $179 AMD FX-8320 Case: $159 NZXT H440 (I know I could save a lot of money on the case, although I can’t go past this one.) RAM: $99 Kingston hyper X 8GB PSU: $60 Antec Basiq 500watt SSD: $75 Kingmax 120GB GPU: $259 Gainward GTX 760 2GB HDD: $65 Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB 7200RPM Which comes to $1015 Any thought on what could make it better or if the finished machine will even be any good? PS. I know that the prices are pretty high, but that just how they are in Australia.

Hey LTT, Im in the market for a new laptop and I've seen that linus has a dell XPS 12, This has already popped up on my radar with its quite good reviews and being a well regarded convertible. One thing I'm really looking forward to is being able to swap out the mSATA SSD. Im a real storage beast on my laptops since i use them for work and I've already filled up the 500gb SSD in my current laptop. Im thinking of putting a 1TB samsung mSATA in it. Basically, all I'm wondering is, is there any feedback from actual long term users?

From Gizmodo: Source: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2014/07/leaked-australian-government-plan-to-deal-with-piracy-hits-the-web/ Note they do state it is just a discussion paper and nothing finalizated but they clearly state as stated "There are a number of factors that contribute to online copyright infringement in Australia. These factors include the availability and affordability of lawful content, the case with which consumers can access unlawful material and consumer awareness of legitimate services." Opinions?

So this is awkward. Just about every Silicon Valley tech company worth noting, including Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Samsung and others, have all come together to slam Australia’s anti-piracy proposals. It isn’t pretty. For those behind the 8-ball, the Australian Government is on the verge of a massive piracy intervention in this country, considering proposals involving site blocking, three-strike schemes and potential bandwidth throttling for convicted offenders. The rhetoric around the proposal has reached fever pitch, with anti-piracy bulldog Village Roadshow, using its submission to the Government’s consultation process to compare pirates to paedophiles and terrorists. Classy. The Computer and Communications Association (CCIA) is an industry group consisting of a massive bloc of tech companies and global telcos, including (but not limited to), eBay, Facebook, Foursquare, Google, Intuit, Microsoft, Motorola, Pandora, RedHat, Samsung, TiVo and Yahoo. So, you know, pretty much every global tech heavyweight that matters. The CCIA observes in its paper that the government shouldn’t introduce policies like site-blocking and graduated response schemes, and instead should focus on stuff like working with rights-holders to make content more freely available, and to lower prices. >Google Australia has said similar things out on its own before. The CCIA goes on to say that, despite the lack of a graduated response scheme, rights holders are already able to take legal action in Australia against film pirates, re-iterating that three-strike schemes have been shown to yield little to no results in stemming piracy. The industry giant also gave the government a stern warning that such policies on copyright were not being generated out of knee-jerk reactions to overblown problems made up by rights holders. The submission closes with the CCIA urging the government to “think carefully before pushing further to expand authorisation liability”. Read the full submission here. Source http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2014/09/silicon-valley-slam-global-tech-giants-hate-australias-piracy-proposals/ Looks like the big stick is about to come out, wack, wack, your out.

Hey guys, I've got a bit of a problem... I live down south, in country VIC, and for around 1-3 hours every day, my internet either constantly drops out every 5 minutes or so for around a minute or it slows right down to dialup speeds and even trying to download pictures from imgur is near impossible. I know someone who lives in the northern suburbs of Sydney and she has the same problem, only worse. Her mum rang up Telstra and they said they're "having problems in the area". My mum has seen some contractors laying cables in the area and I know they were supposed to start construction on the NBN in my area around this time last year. A week or so ago I saw some contractors laying cables to the house next door, which has recently been renovated in the last few years and doesn't look like it'd need rewiring or anything. What I've been experiencing with the cutouts would be what I'd expect if they were pulling cables out and plugging them back in at the nodes/exchange, but I doubt that they wouldn't be able to keep the connection running while doing that. I'm on Telstra. What do you guys think? Is anyone else having the same trouble? If so, are you with Telstra or someone else? If this is FTTH or even FTTN, I'm super excited. If not, well... Super disappointed with Telstra.

Hey guys, So I recently want to build my first computer, I really need it to be as small as possible but also at the same time has to be powerful to run games on decent graphics and frames let's give it a goal of about 60fps,for example some games maybe Far cry 3, Assassin's creed, Battle Flied 4, ect..... My budget is $1000 I have all my monitors(which are two Acer K242HL 24in LED Widescreen Monitor) This computer is needed for 12 year/Uni and of course gaming. So hopefully will last at least 6years, and I don't think I will be overclocking But yes the catch is it has to be as small as possible, I don't have that much space. Also yes Australian dollar ^^ Any ideas please? Thanks Smiles1946 EDIT~ Getting windows 8.1 from G2A just need mouse and keyboard.. sorry forgot to say that Ps. extra challenge I would love a green and black theme because it's amazing ^^

I was looking at PC Case Gear only a few minutes ago, they have a massive sale on XFX graphics cards. Like, $100 off most of their cards. http://search.pccasegear.com/search#w=xfxblitz What's even better is that the Radeon Rewards program is still on, so you can claim more than $100 worth of games.

I bought a power supply online and forgot to take into consideration that the wall connector might not be compatible with my country's (Australia) wall sockets. And sure enough, it isn't. Although I have another similar (Australian) power cord from an older pc that will fit into new psu, can I use that one instead? The new unusable cord is rated at 10A 125V The older Australian one is 10A 250V Cheers Edit: it's a 550W psu, supports input of 10A and 100-240V I can always just use an adapter for the original cord, right?

OK, so i'm a teen in Australia. Woo. AUSTRALIA HAS HORRIBLE PRICES FOR EVERYTHING, DO YOU KNOW THAT!? ESPECIALLY PC PARTS! And that is why I've come to you, people of LTT! I need you to help me see if this build is alright for 3K AUD, because i'm currently saving for it now, and don't want to be buying the wrong things. AIM: To have a very good PC for gaming and possible video editing. MONITORS/PERIPHERALS: I already have that sorted out, just factor in it will be at 1080 x 1920. I don't need to be educated on how to build a computer and things like that, as i've done it before, i'm fairly sure I have a good build planned but I just need to make sure. Hey there! I'm slowly getting my rig together and I'm starting with all the 'low-tech' things such as fans, coolers, HDDs + drives, etc, etc. I'm looking for a fully modular PSU to fit in a Corsair c70 [case]. One that took my eye was the 860i by Corsair; fully modular, digital controller and the largest (physical size at least) PSU able to fit in my 180mm cutout. I was looking at buying from Amazon or Newegg because Australian retailers are far too overpriced compared to online. Can anyone tell me if a PSU ordered from such companies will be able to work with the Australian AC standard, and if so will they ship with the appropriate cable? If not, I'd be looking at paying $330AUD for a local PSU that I could source online for just over $200AUD... Cheers, saya_kucing
