Now by lost they don't necessarily mean THEY don't still have all this information, but that others may now be in possession of said information. I didn't think anyone even still used magnetic tape. If they were meant to be destroyed anyway why weren't they scrubbed before moving? It takes 2 seconds. One magnet... all it takes. Even other archival media, other institutions, other data types, more care should be taken to secure or destroy the data before any attempt to move it or access for third parties is allowed. I'm not sure I like an institution like this not making such a breach known much sooner. I'm not sure if its a government institution, or a private one under charter, or what. Depending on their operations is that enough data to compromise accounts? Allow for identity theft? All data security starts as physical security. How many other institutions may operate similarly? May allow deprecated technology to be handled in a less secure manner than is prudent? We can take some solace in knowing most people wouldn't even know what these tapes were or how they could be accessed. But security by obscurity is no real security.

I've tried the sideloader method which is terrible with touch screen user interface whilst using my TV's remote. Hey all I have been planning my PC build for a long time now since late 2015, and over the past 3 years due to technological advances and financial issues, I never had the chance to start saving and buying many parts, and so throughout this period, my build has changed considerably since to match the current PC trends and take advantage of the best tech for the budget I have allocated. Now right to the point, I have purchased my case; an NZXT Phantom 820 gunmetal a while ago before the whole tempered glass, RGB and brushed aluminum trend came along and now it feels a bit dated for my now RGB build, and so I'd rather use it for something else (it was also an ex demo unit that has the filters missing and I can't be bothered trying to look for replacements, so I'll make my own whenever I use it). I would like some suggestions for a full ATX case with plenty of room for drives (yes we storage hoarders exist), room for a radiator, tempered glass and would look great in a full RGB build. Hey guys. I recently made a post about trying to resolve a router issue I have had, but nothing has fixed it so I have decided that I will be taking it back for a refund and getting a new router. I would love to hear some recommendations about what to get as I am not too sure what is good. All I know is I have had terrible experience with Netgear and Billion so I would prefer to avoid them if possible (also, Netgear has horrendous customer support). Also not a fan of Cisco routers as I don't really want to use a command line to configure everything. I only have a basic understanding of networking. The router needs to have VDSL2, as I am getting NBN in my area (I'm in Australia). A quick TLDR of NBN; all areas now receive FTTN. I would love to hear opinions and suggestions from those who have good experience in networking if possible as I have had issues with recommendations from people who aren't too good in the area (yes, that is my fault). I want a router that is very reliable and has good features if possible. My budget is about $300 - $350 AUD ($235 - $275 USD). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Android Pay and Apple Pay has been operating in Australia for a couple months now, and here is my thoughts on using the services. For the past couple of months, I have been using Android Pay since I own an OPPO Find 7 which is NFC enabled; I don't own an iPhone however, it is generally the same concept. Banks: Android Pay supports ANZ (Australian New Zealand Banking Group) - the 4th biggest bank in Australia, American Express and a handful of smaller financial institutions, and credit unions with support for Westpac coming soon. Apple Pay on the other hand supports ANZ and American Express. **At the moment, Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), Westpac and National Bank of Australia (NAB) - the other 3 biggest banks in Australia - launched a cartel to the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) for not giving access to the NFC access on the iPhone, which would enable contactless payments to be made through their own digital wallets. Reason is that the banks do not want to forfeit the millions of dollars per year they would have earned from Apple Pay through interchange fees. A draft decision on the case will be made in October 2016. APPLE PAY: ANDROID PAY: Stores: Unlike the other countries, where it is a hit or miss adventure trying to figure out what store accepts Apple or Android Pay, around 90% of stores in Australia accepts 'tap and go' technology. According to ANZ, before to Android and Apple Pay, around 60% of their customers uses tap and go technology on their cards, and Australia is one of the first countries to use this kind of technologies. This means, that if you are buying groceries from Coles or Woolworths, buying food from Macca's (McDonald's, KFC, Subway, Red Rooster, Hungry Jacks, Nandos, or other resturant, buying office supplies from Officeworks, buying stuff from department stores such as Target, Big W, Kmart, Myer or David Jones, buying electronics and phones from Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, filling up your car at the service station at Woolworths Caltex or Coles Shell or purchasing phones or recharge credit from Telstra, Optus or Vodafone, you will be assured that Apple Pay or Android Pay will definitely work, 100% of the time, with no issues. All the stores that I have visited supported Apple Pay or Android Pay with no problems, and the payment goes through with no issues and no hassles. And the list above is all the major stores and eateries in Australia. Many medium and smaller stores also accepts these types of mobile payments - with the smaller stores, just make sure if they have tap and go enabled terminal so you can use Apple or Android Pay. Devices: Apple Pay is supported on iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, SE, 7 and 7 Plus, running on the latest version of iOS. Android Pay is supported on any NFC Phone, running Android 4.4 or above, and the device is NOT rooted. Final Thoughts: There is a lot of promise for the two mobile payment systems, and within Australia, payments has become easier and quicker - no need for finding your credit or debit card in your wallet blackhole. Hopefully in the near future, both mobile payment systems will add support for transport system, replacing gocard for Brisbane and surrounds, Opal Card for Sydney or Minki Cards for Melbourne where it is only a tap and go on your phone, no need digging around finding the card. Hello everybody! I recently found out that I will be moving to Wagga Wagga from Sydney and I was given the job to find decent internet plans for a cheap price. One of the plans that I found was $80/month for a landline telephone and unlimited internet data on the NBN (National Broadband Network). Investigating more, I found that the speed was NBN Basic which is about 1.2MB/s Down and 500KB/s up. Would I see any benefits from going with the NBN plan such as more consistent speeds and lower ping or should I just pay the same price for cable with 3MB/s down and 1MB/s up? Thanks!

HI awesome LTT community, I am going to start my semester soon and I am looking for a new laptop which is specifically light and is powerful enough so it can last my whole degree. In the laptop keyboard is a factor for me. For comparison I currently have a ASUS-K55a and keyboard in that feels small and it's heavy asf. That laptop will be my main computer mostly doing programming. I am really hoping for a 1080p touchscreen but that almost seems impossible, as a programmer I don't foresee it but the only point I am going after is taking notes on touchscreen. Thoughts on touchscreen appreciated. 4k is too much and scaling sucks. I am not looking for high graphics, decent graphics is good. My budget is $1000 - $1500(max) I have been looking at XPS 13(expensive and 4k touch), Yoga 900(techrader says no pen input and shallow keyboard), Zenbook, Surface(keyboards sucks) and more. But I would love to hear from you guys as these things cost a lot especially in australia. And personal experience is far better anyway. Thanks badasses.

It's no secret that we get absolutely #rekt down under. For example, using au.pcpartpicker.com, I came up with a build (Define Nano S, i7 6700k, ITX mobo, GTX1080) that costs $2,450.00 (AUD). Using the US pcpartpicker.com, I created the exact same build for $1,510.00 USD / $1,970 AUD. That's almost a $500 difference.. So, being new to PC Building, where is it recommended australians get our hardware from? Order from the US or suck it up and buy locally?
