The only way I can make my Macbook Pro work with my Thunderbolt 4 dock + KVM switch is if I plug the dock directly to a 1440p monitor. Otherwise, it's just a black screen. Any ideas what's up, and how can I fix it? Even the mouse/keyboard isn't working. Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 dock HDMI KVM switch

In his video about hot takes, he claimed that no mouse other than the Magic Mouse scrolls smoothly when connected to Apple devices ,(please watch the video between 06:12 and 10:04), because of Apple woo-woo. Has this claim ever been tested independently, by LTT or anyone else? If his claim was true, some ambulance chaser somewhere would have put together a consortium of $2-to-$250 mouse manufacturers to sue the fruit company. I look forward to everyone's insights, and maybe LTT Labs will look into making a "non-Apple mouse on Apple devices video.

Since the EU is gonna force apple to use replaceable batteries, are they gonna raise the price for EU? Will they find some excuse to raise the price globally? I bet that if they do the replaceable batteries that it will only work with Apple batteries costing 3 to 4 times more then they should be ''because they are Apple certified safe''. It annoys me that these practices aren't even far fetched, what has the industry come to... This is all speculative but what do you guys think about this? will we again just let them be or will there this time be some sort of backlash? I rather doubt the backlash...

is there a way to make apple health to sync data from google fit? I was able to get google fit to sync with apple health app but not the other way around. I use the apple health app primarily since I have a apple watch, but I can only use the google fit app with my schwinn 810 treadmill. I can't get the apple health app to connect to the treadmill and my watch won't count the steps since my hands are on the rails.

It has finally happened. We all knew it would happen, we just didn’t expect it to happen so fast. Although, $4T is beginning to not look as easy as maybe $3T was. Slumping iPhone sales, Vision Pro being a large investment in a competitive industry, but I believe that Apple will do it one day. It may take a few years, but they’ve done it before.

EDIT: All products talked about on this thread was announced. Including the AR glasses. We knew it. Summary Apple’s annual WWDC 2023 is coming up fast. Here is what to expect on June 5th. iOS 17 WWDC is where we first hear about the new iOS version. Rumors have said that a brand-new journaling app could be launched with a mood-tracker added on to see the everyday life of an iPhone user.] Sadly, that is all we know about the new iOS. I know, it’s not a lot. But hey, maybe a new app is coming! M-Series Mac Pro Rumors have surfaced indicating that Apple may be making a Mac Pro desktop with an M-Series Chipset. People have been talking about this for a long time, but it may finally come true. MacBook Air 15” Apple has always had the MacBook Air at 13”. They have experimented with an 11” model, but people speculate that a new 15” model with an M2 processor may hit the market this year, perhaps at WWDC. And now, for the final product (and the craziest.) Apple’s AR/VR Headset People have speculated that Apple would make a VR headset for years. Yet, they say this year (of course), “will be the year.” $3,000?? Well, it is Apple after all. And I’m typing this on an iPhone 14 Pro, so looks like they got me. I don’t know if this is “the year.” VR isn’t as hype as it used to, now it’s AI. Who knows if Apple will ever experiment with AI. Conclusion WWDC 2023 will definitely be an interesting one. I’ve watched WWDC for 2 years straight, and this will be my 3rd. See you on June 5th! Sources cnet mac rumors

I own a Fitbit, but am considering an Apple Watch Series 7 because of Fitbit’s problem with bugs and their tendency to hide more and more features behind a paywall (subscription). Fitbit has amazing automatic sleep tracking, which is great since I have very varying sleep routines, but what about the Apple Watch? Can anyone that with experience of the Apple Watch explain: If it has any automatic sleep tracking at all, or is it strictly tied to the manual schedule that you specify? Is it good for anyone with very varying sleep routines? How’s the quality of the sleep tracking? Are you forced to use the “Sleep” focus mode in order for it to register your sleep?

Apple Watch - Spotify offline with Bluetooth headphones
creat0r posted a topic in Phones and Tablets
Here in Sweden, my mobile operator doesn’t support eSIM. Because of this I only bought the non-cellular version of the Apple Watch Series 7. If I want to go running without my phone, can I download songs from Spotify offline on the Apple Watch and listen via Bluetooth headphones?- 2 replies

Hi, so I have a question the audio encoder with hbo max has been horribly integrated into my AppleTV. Idk how to fix it but as an example I’m trying to watch Harry Potter, and I can barely hear the bloody audio. I don’t want to max volume the entire movie because some parts are louder, and well I’m kind of at a loss. It’s this way but the opposite for Amazon prime.

Dear Floatplane team, I would love if you would enable subscriptions through App Store on iOS. Yes, I understand that you would have to add 30% on top of your regular price to compensate for Apple’s cut, but that’s okay. Here in Sweden they’ve changed the laws/rules so that nowadays my payment card expires every year instead of every fourth year. When you have a busy life and have 20+ subscriptions, running around and updating the card everywhere is not reasonable. Having all subscriptions through App Store therefore provides a peach of mind and a less stressful life. Giving users more payment options is (probably) always a good thing. Thank you for reading my suggestion, I appreciate you and look forward to future Floatplane updates. Best Regards, Filip

I’ve been a Fitbit user for a couple of years, but I’m very tired of the insane amount of bugs on the watch itself. Since I’m an iPhone user I’m considering the Apple Watch 7. On Fitbit there’s a lot of features in the app that require that you pay a subscription fee, is there any features in the Apple Watch-/Health-app that requires a subscription fee?

This is going to be a more complicated question than the title might make it seem. I work for a company that refurbishes and sells used Apple products and we've run into a confusing issue when it comes to the condition of the batteries in a recent batch of 2017 MacBook Pros. The problem devices have batteries with anywhere from 50% to 80% of their maximum capacity and they're all well under Apple's cycle lifespan of 1000 cycles, but macOS reports the battery condition as "Service Recommended." The majority of this SKU has similar health and macOS says the battery condition is normal for them. I've looked at the AppleSmartBattery reports for devices of the same SKU with similar max capacity and similar cycles that don't say service recommended and when compared to the problem devices there are no red flags indicating what macOS is looking at to determine the condition. To be clear, we're no strangers to battery replacements. Devices with bad batteries get replacements, but these ones are a special case since they appear healthy. What I've been able to find on google has not been very helpful so I thought I'd try here. Does anyone with MacBook repair experience have any insight into what might be causing macOS to detect a battery issue where no obvious issues can be found?

The developer session for "Build spatial experiences with RealityKit" must have been made before marketing changed the name from "xrOS" to "visionOS" because the person, at about 0:58, says "... and especially on xrOS..." wich shows that there was a last-minute marketing change, after all, they were already making developer documentation videos. I am esthetic about the new MacBook Air, It kind of sucks though I am being forced to custom order the bloody thing. I need the 16GB ram upgrade though, I thought of doing the 24GB upgrade but with it being Unix based. I am confident it will perform well without issue considering my use cases. Which will be mainly using the browser, and a few apps. The main reason, I am getting a Mac though is the accessibility features which in my opinion outrank anyone. Super excited to watch the video reviewing it, I hope it's released soon!

I looked around for a bit on this forum and didn't see this video posted anywhere, and if it has been, my apologies. Just came across a YouTube video of someone who managed to decipher the inner workings of the T- and M-series Mac/MacBook SSD setups, and as it turns out, the internal SSDs CAN be swapped and even upgraded! As the channel discusses in the video, T1 MacBooks can have their SSD and SSD Controller removed, and a part (which the channel manufactures, for disclosure) can be soldered in place to link up the PCIe slot the SSD controller would take to a normal M.2 slot for mounting any readily-available consumer storage. Pretty neat! But, and in more interesting details, what the channel actually outlines is how the storage on the MacBooks/Macs with the T2 chip, and the later the M1 (not dissimilar in implementation), can be upgraded, and while it's not easy by any means, it is possible. Apple employs a (presumable) RAID 0 configuration among 2-8 flash chips attached to the T2 or M1 that are individually given unique proprietary firmware to determine how and if they will work together, and be physically seated on the motherboard. With a flash tool and enough SSD donors of matching models, and provided the machine has the physical mounting pads available for the chips (as it turns out, they are enabled dynamically depending on how they are configured at the factory, which the video goes into more detail about), the SSDs can be replaced or even upgraded. Obviously this wouldn't be a job for the average user, and would require a professional board repair specialist or enthusiast soldering hardware, but could save many Macs and MacBooks from the dumpster after storage failure and perhaps offer a storage upgrade if that's a cost worth stomaching. And, which I think is the most important part of all of this, it proves that storage modifications to these devices ARE NOT impossible, which puts Linus' own Mac storage upgrade attempts out of date, to the extent that it was suggested to be outright impossible. For what that's worth, I definitely think this makes a great future re-visit for LTT to tackle in the future, if not on the user-accessible storage models like the Mac and Mac Studio, then for the Labs with more intensive soldering equipment Regardless of the facts, the ways that Apple is going about this is obviously not good for consumers or repair as a whole. While the technology behind this is intriguing and inventive, and it's encouraging that it is possible, the fact that it's gotten to this point at all is a mess for everyone but Apple themselves. DEFINITELY check out the YouTube video, they worked for 6 MONTHS on this video and bought much of the hardware necessary to test this all themselves! It is an incredibly interesting watch and is 100% worth supporting.

Summary AMD's Strix Halo Mobile APU has been leaked and it appears to have the graphics performance of a laptop 4070. (The 4070 Laptop has the performance benchmarks of a Radeon RX 6700 XT) Estimations of its arrival are in the second half of 2024. This looks like AMD attempt to hit three birds with one stone. The birds being Intel, Nvidia, and Apple. Quotes My thoughts I hope AMD delivers at their normal budget price point. I would like to see this in desktops eventually. Right now I have a shitty 14’ laptop with ryzen processor and I was thinking of upgrading it to refurbished macbook m1 pro. But I want to use windows pc on side too for casual gaming. I don’t stream a lot but rarely I stream maybe gta 5 or any new multiplayer game that my squad wants to play like warzone. So what combination would be better? macbook pro m1 pro + budget gaming pc or gaming laptop + mac mini m2 disclaimer I like 14 inch size and like to carry lightweight, sturdy laptop in my backpack.

Quotes The sluggish sales of Apple's MacBook have already been predicted. Apple's Mac PC business revenue in the first quarter was $7.7 billion. This is a 30% decrease compared to the same period last year. Source: https://wccftech.com/m2-chip-production-stopped/

OK, not all of it. Some new features are improvements on old things. Some are features Android already has. "Put your phones together and send things like contacts to each other." Hmm you mean like NFC that has been first able to do this on Android (and Windows phone back thn) since 2010? Otherwise, the standby screen basically for when your phone is docked seems alright. Allowing good tracking to let someone know you got home safe is nice. Idk, it's features that have mostly been around, just tweeked, updated, or finally brought to Iphone. Some stuff Android has had.

I have been reading a lot about cyber security recently. More so the security of actual real-world common devices (like mobile phones) and how Digital Forensic technicians at law enforcement agencies [Particularly the UK] use various third-party softwares such as Passware or Cellebrite to brute force passwords and passcode. The government agency pays these cracking companies (which are meant to be anonymous by the way) huge funds to utilize the software. There are a couple of other ways to obtain passwords other than brute force, that may involve looking at linked accounts, stored on the local memory etc. However, for a 2023 Google Android or even 2023 Apple iPhone, a lot of the methods used will be brute force still. The success can vary depending on the mixture of characters used, but more importantly, the length of the password/code. See the table below which shows a similar 2023 example of how long the above software's would take to brute force into a phone. Using this example, if you had the FINGERPRINT scanner enabled on say an Android/iPhone, but your back-up password (in case you get locked out) was 20 characters long and heavily mixed, would there be any way they could brute force it using the BioMetric security option? I guess they could take your fingerprints and somehow duplicate / transition them onto a replica if they really wanted to. However, assume your fingerprint data was unknown.

I just bought my first Apple device, an iPhone, and set it up the day before yesterday. while creating my apple id I used my personal phone number as my apple id and created my account with that. Now, I got to know that everyone creates a @icloud email for their apple ids and only a few countries have the option of creating the apple id as a phone number (India and Mainland China). ref: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207944 will I be missing out on any features by creating my apple id as my phone number? can I change the apple id of my account from a phone number to a icloud email now? I live in India just so it's needed.

On Friday I lost my old airpods so without thinking I ordered the Airpod Pros Gen 2's. Did I make a mistake? I haven't used them much yet but so far the noise cancelation is really impressive.
