Hey, I wasn't sure which section should this go into but since chargers are peripherals in my opinion , hence I posted this here.I am a long time Mac user and I have 2 Magsafe 2 chargers, both have died a gradual death by the cable slowly fraying and breaking from near the end that plugs into the MacBook, am sure the charge bricks themselves are still perfect and say what you will I have never found Apple's charge bricks have any problems, if anything I've noticed they out perform similarly speced charge bricks but am not engineer. I would like to be able to re use those charge bricks and give them a new life but for those who don't know Magsafe 2 charger don't have a removable cable and certainly don't have a USB c port on them. I wonder if there is a way to retro fit a USB c port on them or something through which they can be used a as general purpose charger for my phones, cameras etc. 1 of them is 45W and the other is 85W both would make for really great chargers, specially given how insanely expensive most good quality 85W USB C charger are right now. Any help is appreciated guys, cheers

Summary In the latest decision from Brazilian court (13/10/2022), Apple has been fined in R$100 million brazilian Reais ($19 million US dollars), and will be required to deliver USB-C power adapters to consumers that didn't receive one when buying an iPhone. This decision goes along with the 2 other court decision, that fined Apple in $2 million US dollars for not providing a power adapter with iPhone 12 (March, 2021) and along an iPhone's sales ban, with another $2.4 million US dollars fine (September, 2022). In all cases, Apple said it will appeal the decisions. Quotes My thoughts As a brazilian, I can say that consumer protection laws here are PRETTY strong, and one law says that "tie sales" (selling a product without the required part for proper usage) are abusive practices. Many smaller cases have granted consumers a charger, along with a fine for Apple, but this time, it's a major decision from the government, and may have a huge impact on Apple, since it had a "double-digit sales growth in Brazil" in 2022. So, I'm trying to figure out how to get more advanced and granular control over autoplay on windows such that when I plug in a specific device I can run a script, a macro, or generally do something more then just sync my phone's photos with my desktop in one of two file locations. In particular, I want to be able to sync up arbitrary files (mostly to sync files from a specific folder on my android phone with file names in a specific range/structure) to my computer in an arbitrarily selected folder and to do so every time that a particular device that I have is plugged into my desktop. Anyone have experience with this?

Summary Lufthansa argues that baggage trackers fall in the category of portable electronic devices, and are therefore subject to dangerous goods regulations issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This is specifically because of the transmission function. Lufthansa claims that the transmission function needs to be turned off during flight when in checked luggage, just as is required for cell phones, laptops, etc. Quotes My thoughts Lufthansa isn't exactly a customer-friendly airline, and the airline has had an awful summer when it comes to lost bags. AirTags empower travelers in terms of knowing exactly where their bags are. People have publicly shamed Lufthansa on twitter for not knowing when the owner knows the exact location. Now Lufthansa has banned them. Matter 1.0, a new smart home standard, was finally released by CSA (Connectivity Standards Alliance). This new smart home standard allows interoperabillity between different eco systems, such as the ones from Google, Apple and Amazon, which are all members of the alliance. Matter's goals are to simplify the IOT and smart home space by making it easier to adopt new devices, make sure that they work and on top is supposed to increase security by enabling devices to work entirely on private networks without being connected to the internet. Devices that feature support for this new standard will have the matter logo printed on the box. With the release of Matter 1.0 companies will now be able to get their devices certified for the new standard and afterwards push updates to already existing devices to support it. My thoughts I personally enjoy the idea of being able to adopt a Amazon or Apple device to Google Home and simply know that these devices will work seemlessly with Google Assistant, even tho they might not offer the full feature set, as I'm sure I won't be able to ask my Google Home Max questions with "Hey Siri". On top of that being able to adopt a Phillips Hue device without having to install the Phillips Hue app is great, as long as Phillips will certify their devices. But considering that IKEA and Lutron are also part of the alliance, I don't think they will miss out on it. Hey there, I just had a quick question about the Apple's self repair program. Recently, Apple has made it possible to aquire parts and tools for M1 macbooks. My question is whether those who pursue a self repair of a macbook would have to get the parts validated after the completion of the repair like with the iPhone? Cheers Edit: One more quick question. Do you peeps know whether being part of the independent repair provider program means you are available to keep stock of components?

Hello, My old EarPods with cable and 3.5 mm jack broke yesterday. The cable came off, the sound is still good but I decided to change it. Since I have an old 6th generation Ipod I still need the one with the cable and 3.5 mm jack. I therefore decided to buy a new pair on Amazon. When I got one back I noticed that the sound is bad, the cable is thinner, and the jack makes a rustling noise when it rotates inside the port. They sound like a Chinese clone. So I returned them and went to the Apple Store to buy the original, but I noticed that they sold me the same cheap pair. I wonder if Apple has decreased the quality over the years. It would be interesting to test the quality of the new earbuds against the old ones to see the decrease in quality over the years of Apple products. Is this just a suggestion for a new video, perhaps using the newly purchased audio test equipment?

I am currently quite confused as I am having a difficult time choosing over MacBook air m1 and MacBook air m2. The main problem is that the base MacBook air m2 only comes with one 256GB nand chip, and I don't have the money to go for the 512 GB model. I am planning to use my MacBook for mainly coding purposes, including running some ml models. Although m2 is faster than m1, I speculate that it would hinder the performance if I'm running a heavy memory task like an ml project, and hence I'd pay for the same, if not worse, performance. The new MacBook Air has got some new chassis and stuff, but it might not be that good of incentive to pay additional 300ish dollars (as MacBook air m1 is discounted). Can anyone give any suggestions and some graphs pointing out what would be a real-world difference when it comes to coding as I couldn't find some relevant data?

Arm CPUs are taking over. Apple Silicon showed us that desktop computers need not be power hogs - Why haven't AMD, Intel, and Nvidia done the same, and would you want it?

Summary Set to release later this year, it's being reported by reputable leaker 52audio that the AirPods Pro 2 will feature an upgraded H1 chip, Find My support with speakers on the case to make finding your AirPods inside the case easier, heart rate detection within the earbuds themselves, & USB-C as the charging port on the case. While most of these have been reported by other sources for a while, the USB-C report is new. Quote My thoughts Obviously Apple has to switch to USB-C by Fall 2024 as per the EU mandate, but there was some debate as to if they'd make the transition for the AirPods Pro this year or later given how long it took for this upgrade to happen (especially given that the original rumors said that the Pro 2 would have Lightning). But it seems like the AirPods Pro 2 will be the first in Apple's widespread transition to USB-C. And honestly, I might upgrade from the OG AirPods that my dad gave me when he upgraded to the first AirPods Pro. Source 52audio

Apple broke tradition and announced hardware at WWDC. M2 Macs are on the way with bigger GPUs and tighter integration with macOS, iOS, and iPadOS - The PC world may need to rethink its priorities.

I have enough smartphones based on Android. Recently I can tested Apple, iPhone 7 and I'm in love. So, I'm wondering. Is it worth it buying iPhone 11 in this year or spend a little bit more money and buy iPhone 12? Next models are out of range for me. I need some constructive answers.

Hi, I am looking for manufacturers/suppliers that sell MFi Lightning connectors (C48, C89, C94). I thought that there are a couple of big suppliers that issues these MFi Lightning connectors. But I can't seem to find them. I am not looking for MFI cables, but only the Lighting connectors. Anyone that can help me with this?

Apple is allowing developers to do a price increase of up to $5/week or $50/year without getting the consent from the user. Prior to this rule change, user had to opt-in to the new changes and now they will have to opt-out of the price increases. Apple's documentation shows that the trigger value for consent will be above 50% of the current subscription pricing or $5 for weekly subscriptions and $50 for yearly. For anything less than this value the user gets a notification on their iPhone regarding the price increase. https://www.theverge.com/2022/5/16/23078313/apple-app-store-subscription-price-increase-permission-rules I really disagree with this concept. I get that it is pretty common in regards to other types of contracts (say phone/internet/cable) but switching it to an opt-out system especially after it's been in a state of an opt-in system for so long is just asking for it to be abused. There are plenty of people I know who don't look at their notifications because they just receive so many...lets say you have an app that has a $1/week subscription. They could change it to $1.49/week without consent. For the yearly subscription as well, I could see many people missing a notification...and in this case, they can change a $100/year subscription into a $149/year subscription. Apparently it's to reduce the amount of "unsubscribe" during price increases, which just to me feels like a money grab from Apple. They are hoping that people either overlook the notification, or don't notice the price increase...it's like auto-renew services that hinge on the fact that you are too lazy to unsubscribe or you have forgotten about it (and have auto-payment setup). With that said, it hasn't really gotten much attention, and Apple really should be called out for this sort of behavior.

My father was moving his office around and managed to knock over his 2012 21.5 iMac resulting in some cracks across the screen, none of these cracks took any chunks out and is basically just lines in the glass, does anyone have any expericane or suggestions in repairing the glass itself rather than replacement or new device, I was considering using some commercial windshield repair if I have no other option, thank you in advance.

With the EU closing all potential loopholes Apple could've taken to not adopt USB-C on the iPhone & the USB-C mandate fast approaching ratification, reliable Apple leaker Ming-Chi Kuo has confirmed that Apple will finally cave by adopting USB-C over Lightning for the 2023 iPhones (the iPhone 15). Going portless was seemingly the original plan, but the EU closing said loophole looks to have forced Apple to reconsider in order to comply with said upcoming regulations. For reference, Kuo had originally heard that Apple would tough it out with Lightning for the foreseeable future (likely until Apple could get a portless iPhone going). Personally, I'm happy about this news. Not just because it'll guarantee faster data transfer (which is great news for those who shoot ProRes video on their pro iPhones), but also because I can finally use the same charger I use for my PS5 & Switch controllers for my iPhone. Not to mention that this will bring the iPhone more in line with the iPad & MacBooks. And given that the EU mandate specifically calls out the AirPods as well, I'd imagine that those will likely also follow suit in switching to USB-C in accordance with the aforementioned mandate. As someone who was considering getting the AirPods Pro 2, I'm more than willing to wait for the eventual USB-C AirPods Pro. Source MacRumors

I decided to buy one of these, and while it is pretty awesome to have Touch ID, the keyboard itself sucks. It’s like typing on a crappy laptop keyboard…I got it BNIB on eBay, so I didn’t pay full price, but it was still way too expensive. But…I have an idea. What if the guts of this thing could be transplanted into a KeyChron (or some other enthusiast grade chassis with proper hot swappable switches and customizable key caps), along with the Touch ID sensor? Now THAT would be pretty amazing. I don’t have the skill or the resources or even the time to do such a thing, but if anyone else is interested, or wants to give this a try, or has any other ideas…I doubt there are many Mac users around these parts, just figured I would post this anyway though Would it be difficult to adapt proper mechanical switches to Apple’s controller PCB? I did find one other person on Twitter who took one of these apart and just extracted the single Touch ID sensor (along with the battery and controller board), and is using it that way, and it definitely works.
