I'm hoping to build myself a new PC sometime around March, which I will use for: Web Design/Development - Just basic HTML, CSS, Javascript, won't be too demanding I think Programming apps and games in Python, Java, C++, C# (Android Studio, Visual Studio, Unreal Engine etc) - 2D games, won't be too fancy Graphic Design (Photoshop) - will be used for designing visuals for games, animations, videos etc 2D Animation (Flash) - Basic 2D cartoons, probably less than 10 minutes of content, nice visuals but not overly complicated Video Editing (Premiere) - Complicated green screen effects, HD, long videos, I'll have all sorts of crazy effects going on at once Gaming: Will start off with non demanding games, then move on to games like MGSV, which my CPU/GPU/RAM should probably handle fine Basic PC Tasks: Web browsing, email, writing documents, listening to music, watching movies Here are the parts: Intel Core i7 4790 (not the K version, don't plan on overclocking) Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Asus Z97-P Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 RAM 1600MHz CL10 Corsair CX600M Gigabyte Geforce GTX 960 4GB Western Digital Black 1TB HDD Samsung 850 EVO 250GB Phanteks Enthoo Luxe Other relevant parts/peripherals: BenQ GL2460HM (x2) Noctua NF-S12B (x2) Samsung SH-188CB TP-Link TL-WN781ND Logitech Z120 iBoutique Water Speakers (don't judge, they're cool) 1. Will this rig be enough to handle everything I mentioned? 2. Is 600W PSU enough? (The PC will run at 342 watts) 3. Will the PC stay cool and quiet while handling the above tasks?

Tom Fulp of Newgrounds.com is asking it's users for monetary support to help fill the paygaps where ad-revenue falls short and launched a Supporter Upgrade page that would allow users to choose from a monthly subscription or an annual fee, as well as featuring an option for one-time donations. Supporters do, indeed, receive upgrades within the site, such as the ability to view the site without ads, the ability to change their username, have an animated forum signature, a nod of appreciation on the "Wall of Honor", and have early access to exclusive content. Tom gives all the details in this forum post here: http://www.newground...s/topic/1402392 ...as well as some additional information in this recent post. http://www.newground...s/topic/1403487 Tom currently asks for 1000 monthly supporters subscribed as the first major goal, but hopes to one day reach 10k supporters to help fund more creative contests within the site and sponsor artists who make quality, premium content, not to mention hire more staff. The minimum funding goal is also stated in the Supporter Upgrade page.

My girlfriend is majoring in Fine Arts, and she's aspiring to be an animator. So, she's going to be using 3d animation, and all that other stuff. I, myself, have a gaming PC. So, I'm little informed, but I'm not sure what kind of CPU I would actually need for 3d animation, and all that other stuff. I don't want to spend too much, and get less than what I paid for. My budget for both the CPU and Motherboard is 600 - 700. As for the rest of the parts, I've already got those taken care of. Thanks. :DD -Edit I forgot to mention that I need the motherboard to be a Micro ATX that is DDR3 compatible( I have 32GB DDR3 RAM stored ), and the CPU and motherboard combined has to be 600-700 dollars total. Sorry about that.

Having some trouble making a spritesheet in photoshop and exporting it to unity. I have the sprite layed out on the page, and have set up my grids and subdivisions, i think, and when i save as a png, and put it in unity, unity just sees it as 1 image, not multiple frames so i can use it as an animation. what should i try?

Animation software used by Studio Ghibli, Futurama goes free, open source
Guest posted a topic in Tech News
Japanese publishing company Dwango has announced that now that it has acquired the animation software Toonz from its Italian developers, it will be publishing its source code, making it free to download and building a business around installation services and providing support and training for companies wanting to use it. It will also be developing proprietary versions (ToonzPremium) for companies wanting to customize the software for their projects. Sadly, the press release doesn't seem to indicate what the licensing for the software is going to be, so I'm guessing 'free' in this case merely means that users won't have to pay for it, not that it will be what FSF would call 'free software', letting anyone contribute to it or fork it. The date for the release of OpenToonz is set on 26th of March. Source press release- 7 replies

I'm looking for raw CPU rendering power to speed through scanline renders in 3ds max. The scanline renderer is all CPU based, and I do not plan to use a GPU accelerated renderer any time soon. Scene size and textures should fit into 32GB of RAM, but I also use After Effects, so 64GB or more is a nice bonus, and also future proofs the build a bit. I want to stick with water cooling, not only because I want to overclock, but these processors will be pegged at 100% almost all the time, so I want efficient cooling that isn't too noisy. Because of a limitation in Windows Processor Groups, 3ds max is limited to utilizing 36 cores max. As mentioned, the GPU is not very important, and will only really be used for the Nitrous viewport acceleration in 3ds max, and perhaps a few filters in After Effects. CUDA is actually important for some of these GPU tasks, so I'll stick with nVidia. I stuck a GTX 960 in these samples, cause it's good enough. I could probably use a 750Ti without any major detriment. No Quadro needed or wanted. I will never be playing games on this PC. Money is not necessarily an issue, but I need to keep this within reason. No $8000 Xeon E7 18-core processors unless you can actually prove it is the best bang-for-the-buck choice. I managed to stay under or around $3000 total, just for reference. I'm in Southern California, and can do local in-store pickups. So with all that in mind, I built 4 systems: A Devil's Canyon machine with 4 physical cores and 8 logical cores (plan to overclock to 4.6Ghz) A Skylake machine with 4 physical cores and 8 logical cores (plan to overclock to 4.6Ghz) A 5960X machine with 8 physical cores and 16 logical cores (plan to overclock to 4.5Ghz) A dual socket Xeon machine with 16 physical cores (8 each) and 32 logical cores (stock clock) A crude calculation of (gigahertz * logical cores)/cost gives us these numbers: Devil's Canyon = 36.8Ghz, $42/Ghz Skylake = 36.8, $47/Ghz 5960X = 72, $33/Ghz dual socket Xeon = 76.8, $40/Ghz Of course that's all rubbish, because the increase in performance is not linear with each additional thread, especially the hyper-threaded ones (my estimate is each hyperthread is only about 20% the efficiency of a physical one; in some cases, they will actually slow down the render). All sorts of inefficiencies will slow down the systems, with the dual socket system hiding the most, I believe. But that is where the internet has failed me. I can't find benchmarks comparing systems like these, specifically using the 3ds max scanline renderer. Cinebench and 3dmark mean very little to me, and not even Autodesk tests much hardware. Closest I found is a user benchmarking thread for Vray in 3ds max. Here are all the PCPartPicker lists. Which do you think would give the best performance for the money? Also, if anyone has experience buying and using Engineering or Qualification sample processors, I'd like to hear from you. Hi all I am an animator and casual gamer looking to upgrade my mobo and CPU. currently running an intel i3-3220 @ 3.3GHz. 8 gig ram (x2 4gig sticks not 100% sure on type, think its kingston) Gtx 760 and 2 internal HDD's I mostly use Maya for animating, After effects for video editing, Photoshop and Ai for all still works. On top of all that i enjoy playing fps games. If anyone could recommend a good CPU and Mobo combo that would suit my needs id be very grateful! looking at a budget of around R3500 (+- 200$) Thanks a mill guys Sheep

Okay. So I'm going to change my Major at my college to Computer Graphic Technology. I want to build a new PC that would be capable of doing 3D modeling, animation, and designing games fairly well. I just have no idea where to start. Any and all input would be appreciated. Also, it'd be nice if It could also be used to for gaming. Thank you to all.

I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT SUB-FORUM TO PUT THIS IS SO MODERATORS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MOVE. I want to make a boot animation for my phone it is a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I have heard that Samsung devices use a .qmg format for the boot animation. I need a way to make it or some sort of editor all I really want is to change the Samsung writing to my name so it doesn't have to be that big of an editor. If someone can help me I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance. Tahir Mia

So I'm headed to college in the fall and I'm looking at a laptop to buy. I've narrowed it down to two different machines, and the only difference between them is the GPU. All other specs are relatively the same and I'm stuck on the age old question: Quadro vs GeForce. Before I finish detailing everything, here are the GPU's / Laptops (I'll attach a link to spec pics as they're too big): - Quadro K2100M (2GB) : Custom Lenovo W541 Mobile Workstation - GeForce GTX 980M (8GB) : Gigabyte P35X-V4 (the CPU turbos to 3.5) Now for details: The design program I'm going to be heading into is called 3D Animation and Visualization, meaning I'll be doing modeling, animation, rigging, simulations, rendering, compositing, and other image/video work. Types of programs include the Adobe Creative Cloud, Nuke, Fusion, Maya, and Cinema 4D (and any others I may toss on, such as Mudbox/Modo/Mari/Resolve). With the two laptops, there are a few concerns I have. I know that Quadro would appear the obvious choice with their driver support and OpenGL precision, but VRAM can become precious at times, which the GeForce would have in spades. The GPU is my main issue, but besides that the Gigabyte as a whole is quite a bit cheaper, and already comes with a TB of storage on a 7200rpm disk. For the Lenovo I feel like I'd end up being forced to add in a secondary drive. And for the CPU's: the Lenovo's Turbo goes up to 3.9 and has 8MB of cache, vs the 5th Gens 3.5 and 6MB cache. With this info, which laptop would you recommend for studying in a 3D/compute intensive program? (I know the school has a lab to work in, but I'm not going to be able to live in there unfortunately ) Here's the album of info: http://imgur.com/a/w7CaW#0 Sorry for the long topic, but thanks for any input! Desktops and Servers are more of my forte, laptops not so much. If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to let me know, I have a lot of time before the purchase (although I'd like to put it through the ringer before I get to school). I'm trying to stay below the $2500 USD mark, so no Dell M6800 for me

Hello everyone, I'm a newcomer to this awesome community. In my spare time, I decided to make an Android Boot Animation based on the LinusTechTips' new intro animation. The bootanimation is 1080x1920 @ 30fps (playback smoothness may vary among devices). You will require your device to be rooted in order to copy the bootanimation.zip file into /system/media (path may vary). Hope you will enjoy it. Mega

I have a few simple noob questions about maya and exporting, but the maya forums seem empty and cold. I was hoping the LTT community could help me out. I am making a 2d sidescroller for ios and android in UE4, and i need a "rope". Something very simple. So i went to a front orthographic view in maya, made a thin long rectangle and animated it swinging left to right. I exported it as an fbx and it won't import into UE4. I imagine it's because I am missing a bunch of steps in maya, but im not sure. Help Please

Below is my current build list... first time building a PC, been a Mac guy since 2004. Budget is $3000 tops for the whole build. Right now I have the Nvidia GTX 980 Ti. Since I will be working primarily in Premiere and After Effects with a little bit in Cinema4D, is this the best option to fit in the budget. Also, feel free to make suggestions on this build besides the GPU. Since this is my first build, sort of doing this blind. I’m planning to build a pc for animation, rendering mostly 3d softwares.. I’m not sure which components are more compatible, or which components should I be focusing on. As far as I understood, the most important parts for such uses are the CPU and GPU but not sure which to pic. I was considering the intel 6 core i7 and the GTX 980 for the graphic card When it comes to cooling, should I be going for water or air cooling? My budget is around 2,000$ Any suggestions? I can use suggestions for pretty much every component (since i'm obviously ignorant in the topic) Thank you all in advance

Hey guys! This is my first post. I'm looking for some advice; I'm looking to build a workstation for myself and a friend/co-worker to work on animated series and similar content creation. In the future there may very well be live-action footage shot, and I would like that taken into consideration ie. future-proofing. The advice I would like is on apropriate parts to use in a workstation build that can handle very high workloads without being ridiculously expsensive. Ideally I'd like no lag when scrubbing through timelines, and preferably silent performance. I do have a number of ideas in my head, but honestly there's too many to sort through, and I'd like advice from experienced builders. Any motherboards/CPUs/cooling solutions/cases you can reccomend will be highly appreciative! I have no budget limitations as such, but ideally I'd like to avoid paying $800+ per part. Thanks for your time, Kind regards, Ian

Hello, and thanks for reading this already! (To the moderators, sorry if this is posted in the wrong topic, but this seemed the most fitting!) Is there any good freeware animation program? I don't have high requirements for it, it only needs to work with a Wacom-drawing thing (I forgot what it's called). It also needs to, preferably, animate, and have no viruses. That's all it needs, any suggestions? EDIT: a 2D animation program, sorry @Jonnyswboy! Thanks in advance!

Here we are! My soon to be build! What do you think? It's going to be used for 3d design work (inventor/3DS max/Maya/blender) as well as 3d and 2d animation on Maya, blender and other software. I will also be coding and doing digital art on it (this includes webdesign and photoshop). I will also be doing a bit of video editing to try it out. I also can't forget gaming. I will be gaming on whatever titles I can get cheap (MC/CS:GO/GMOD/TF2/Raze/skyrim/etc). I may also be trying out Music creation on audactity etc (anyone know any good software for it!) Hi everybody, I've just installed Windows 8.1 on my new computer, which I've assembled. I noticed that in the login, when it's shown the photo, when I press space, enter, left mouse or whatever there's no animation (photo goes up and shows the username and password), unless I just drag the image up which, of course, it's not the best thing to do on a desktop PC. What could I do? This thing is driving me crazy. PS: I've already tried sfc /scannow...

So I finally got my crap together after *cough* several *cough* posts into the workbench section of the forums, and now, think I've done it (minus a GPU). So I managed to fund about £100 extra to what I had before so I had to redo again reaching a budget of £500 (always check under your couch ) Now however, I am stuck. I have about £140 - £150 left for my GPU and I'm wondering if it's worth saving a bit longer and get a GTX 960 (which I'm slightly hesitant to do due to less RAM) or grab a R9 280. Another thing I was considering was picking up a used 280x/290 for about that price, and I am wondering what the risks are to that and whether they're worth it or not, and also if anyone has found anywhere to get one for that price. I do not need windows as I have a buddy who's giving it to me. I have 2 <1080p monitors, however I might get a new 1080p monitor a little later down the line. It will be used for gaming (MC/GMOD/TF2/CS:GO/WoT/WoBS/Skyrim/Raze); 3D design work (Maya/Inventor/AutoCAD/3DS Max); 2D art (Phtoshop); learning to code (HTML/C++/CSS/Java) and general school work (MS office) Anyway, without further ado: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor (£130.94 @ Aria PC) Motherboard: Asus H81-GAMER ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£68.82 @ Scan.co.uk) Memory: Kingston Fury Black Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (£55.93 @ CCL Computers) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£35.94 @ Aria PC) Case: BitFenix Comrade ATX Mid Tower Case (£33.02 @ Amazon UK) Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (£37.19 @ Aria PC) Total: £361.84 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-01-25 01:20 GMT+0000 EDIT: Posted wrong build - Fixed Now

I'm sorry if this topic doesn't belong here, i couldn't find any better place for it. So, i've been working really hard to make funny textaloud-powered videos for Youtube, but every single time i think i'm close to actually release a video, there's something i still have to learn and i finally reached the point in wich i think i need to start making some animations instead of just playing with Premier P and stuff. The thing is, i don't understand anything about it and when i thought i was determined to learn it, i found this: http://9gag.tv/p/a5dpMP/animation-heat-repulsion-19-year-old-chinese-student?ref=fbl9 Edit: just in case you don't feel like going to 9Gag... https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ekz-FY_MDGA My only question is: how in the world do you make this kind of things on your own, have you ever made any animation i can watch (i'd really love to) and also wich programs do you use for animating. Thanks

So I am building myself a PC for the reasons mentioned in the title. I thought I should ask the communities opinion on the parts that I am looking to use. 1. Budget & Location I currently live in Johannesburg South Africa, thus all PC parts are WAY more expensive than in Canada or the US. My Budget is R30 000 or approximately USD$ 2600 or CAD$ 3100. 2. Aim This PC should be the solution to all my power hungry tasks. I will be doing 3D modeling, 3D and 2D animation, video/image/audio editing and creation, coding in C++/Java/HTML5 as well as gaming. This PC must be very upgradable or "future-proof". I will also be taking this rig to LAN parties thus it does need to look good and be as quiet as possible, but silence is not the most important thing in this build. 3. Monitors I currently own two LG Flatron W2453V's running a 1920x1080 resolution each in extended display mode. I might add in a 4k display in a few years. 4. Peripherals I wont be buying any peripherals, as I already own pretty decent ones, listed below. 5. Why are you upgrading? My current PC is great. But it simply does not have the power to keep up with the tasks I will be demanding of it. 6. Specs of the build PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hLgZHx Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hLgZHx/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-5960X 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor (8 cores running at 3.0 GHz is probably not the best for gaming; however, it is great for 3D modeling.) CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (Liquid cooling needed as South Africa is a hot place and I am planning on overclocking the CPU.) Motherboard: MSI X99S Gaming 7 ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard Memory: A-Data XPG Z1 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory (Large amounts of fast RAM is needed for content creation. Getting 2 sticks of 8GB also then gives me the option of upgrading to a rediculous amount of RAM in the future, if need be..) Storage: Samsung 850 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (A solid state drive; a must have for any performance build.) Storage: Seagate SV35 Series 2TB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive (I am a little worried about the speed of this drive. However, I will primarily be using this drive for archiving.) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card (Planning to add another in SLI as we all know that two 970 outpace a single 980 and are only marginally more expensive.) Case: Cooler Master Storm Trooper ATX Full Tower Case (If you haven't noticed by now, I am going for a Black and Red build theme. This rig needs to look good for the LAN parties.) Power Supply: Corsair RM 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (Too much overkill? Keep in mind that I will probably be adding another 970 in SLI in future years and I am planning on overclocking the CPU. Additionally, it gives me a bit of breathing room for upgrading in the future.) Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard (Brown switches) (Yolo am I right?) Mouse: Corsair M65 RGB Wired Laser Mouse (See previous comment) Headphones: Sennheiser HD 449 Headphones (Possibly the best headphones I have ever bought. I use them for audio editing, gaming and DJ'ing and they have proven themselves again and again.) 7. Final comments Feedback in any shape or form will help me make an informed decision. Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

I am building my First PC for my work and gaming. Here's the part list http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9j4PLk This PC will mostly be used for 3D Animation/Rendering, Video editing, Graphic work and etc and also for some gaming. I would have used Firepro or Quadro GPU but they are out of my budget right now and also i won't be able to play games on it so that's why i decided to go with GTX980(will add second GPU in future) Any suggestion/Feedback?
