This is a new audio set-up for my desktop, first time with bookshelf speakers/amp combo. Speakers: JBL Arena 130's Amp: Dayton Audio APA150 Main Audio Source: Desktop PC Right now I have my amp plugged in via a 3.5mm to RCA cable to my PC (motherboard). Both speakers are plugged in via banana cables to the amp, everything so far works fantastic. The things I would also like to plug into the amp are: My headphones (Sennheiser HD 439's) and My TV/second monitor (an old cheap Haier HD TV with auxiliary and RCA connections) Is it possible? Do I need splitters or couplers or a switch? Help is appreciated, let me know if you need more info from me to be helpful.

Hi all, I'm going to my first ever Canjam pretty soon (Canjam NYC) and I was hoping to get some tips. I was definitely planning on bringing my fiio e17k with a USB and aux cable along with some flacs on my phone. However, I really want to try out some amps and dacs(namely schiit and woo audio) to see how they sound and I'm not really sure how it works getting headphones to listen to them. I have the HD 6xx and it would be great to listen to the amps with the 650s, and I don't want to have to bring mine but might if that's the only way I'll be able to listen to them. On the flip side, what kinds of amps/dacs will headphone booths like Sennheiser, audeze and hifiman have? I assume very neutral whatever they are. Thank you!

Hey there so Ive been browsing around the web with the idea of getting a decent Stereo setup which i plan to add to (like getting a sub). To no luck on finding what i need I thought Id ask here as this is the best place For me that provides advice. My Budget is £250 for the speakers and amp, I want to play music (ideally sounding good in all genres, like a middle-ground), watch yt and film, add an extra dimension of immersion to my games and usefull for Video editing and i may do music production later though thats not a priority at ALL (the last 2 points are my Focus). as for the Amp Im clueless as to what would drive my speakers (I was thinking about wharfdale diamond 9.1's) and if an a/v reciever would be useful instead as i could do 5.1 later and have my PC and other media devices run through it. Thanks

So questions everyone... output specs on phone chargers. I have always assumed higher amperage on output means faster charging. I'm not talking just quick charge stuff either, but also normal chargers. I'm wondering if anyone could explain the following numbers I'm getting when charging a brand new Galaxy S7 (not the Edge or Note) on a series of 3 different chargers. What is up with these estimated times? It seems like none of it is consistent, but I don't have any specific expertise in electrical. Anyone offer an explanation? Thanks! (All were tested in the same outlet (US) with the same micro USB cable.) CHARGER 1 (Samsung Standard Travel Charger) Input: 100-240V -> 50-60Hz .15A Output: 5.0V : 1.0A Est. Charge Time: 2hr 5m CHARGER 2 (Samsung Standard Travel Charger) Input: 100-240V -> 50-60Hz .15A Output: 5.0V : 0.7A Est. Charge Time: 1hr 42m CHARGER 3 (Motorola Travel Charger) Input: 100-240V -> 50-60Hz .2A Output: 5.0V : 1150mA (1.15A) Est. Charge Time: 1hr 47m

I'm upgrading my headphones and I was wondering which of the two would be better for listening to music And gaming for hours on end. My main concern is comfort though because I use my headphones for around 4-5 hours a day while doing research and reports. I think the k7xx needs an amp and the fiio e10k seems to be good enough to power it if I get the k7xx but does the x2 even need one? I don't know if my motherboard has any built in DAC (Asus z-170a). Thanks

Hey y'all! I have finally decided to bite the bullet and rid myself of the awful Turtle Beach x12 gaming headset. They have been my daily driver for a long time but the discomfort, mediocre sound quality, and unnecessarily long cable for my applications have made me decide that it is time for an upgrade. I initially I looked at the AKG Q 701 Quincy Jones Signature with a FiiO E10K but later decided against the AKGs due to their fatiguing amount of detail in the high end. I have now narrowed my search to the Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro-250 OHMs and the Sennheisher HD 598s. I still plan to get the FiiO DAC because of its reasonable price and features. My question is, if I listen to mostly hard rock (we are talkin' Alter Bridge, Soundgarden, System of a Down, Slash, Halestorm) which of those two headphones fits my use case? I also do some light gaming, (TF2 kind of stuff nothing immersive) Thanks so much! Kellen

Can somebody explain why voltage doesn't affect mAh? If i have a phone, rated at whatever mAh and a battery back rated at let's say 10000 mAh, why does the amount of recharge cycles not depend on voltage at all? why can this battery bank supply 10000 milliamps of current at 1 volt and 10000 milliamps of current at 5v without it changing how long it lasts? (or maybe i have that wrong and somebody can explain what actually happens)

I have an EVGA SuperNova 1300 and I mean that think is great, looks great, works great BUT the fan is kind of loud. Anyway, I have read about the fan that comes with it on Reviews and I know that has a 12V - 0.60A fan for 2200RPM (kind of Delta Industrial type) Most of the time the PSU is relaxed and silent but near about the 300W charge the fan starts to sound and it is very noticeable. I want to replace the fan with a Noctua NF-A14 industrialPPC that is 2000RPM, 12V - 0.18A Noctua Fan <--------- Can this damage my PSU in some aspect since the Amps are diferent ? I have seen many tutorials about how to change the fan on a PSU but so far noone has mention how this spec can affect or not the PSU I have seen that ALL the fans have different Amps specs, the more RPM or LED the more Amps needed. Is this Amp Spec important or is just an information and the real important is that the Fan is 12V ? Of course that I know that I will avoid my warranty but I if it works I think I will have a perfect PC Gamer and it will be worthy.

Alright guys so i have, ALOT of questions that i need someone smarter and more knowledgeable than me to answer. first of the main situation i have is that i am trying to find a pc speaker system to replace my current one, as it is dying slowly but surely, its a cheap $35 2.1 system by logitec and it has served me well but i wanna upgrade. Theres a few things that i want out of my new speakers, first and foremost im a bass whore and i need deep and heavy bass, upon saying this its also important that the other parts of the music aren't completely drowned out (though i do understand a lot of bass tends to have this effect). now upon saying this ive had a look online and i cant see a decent 2.1 system that i could buy outright that fits what i want, so im thinking of trying to get hifi speakers and connect them to an amp and maybe buy a sub later (or if its affordable now) this being said i have no god dam clue where to start. i have no idea how the wiring works, have no idea what amp is good and what is bad, i dont know what decent hifi/bookself speakers there are out there that can have a sub added on later, i also have no idea how an amp even works, and are they all the same? or do i need a different one depending on the sub and speakers? and i have no clue as to whether this is even a better option than buying a standard speaker system. and yes ive tried reading up on this online but i cant understand half of what they are talking about they just say get an amp, speakers and a sub later and i have no idea what to choose or how it works. to whoever took the time to read this, i thank you for any help you could give an audio amateur in his pursuit of better sound

I recently posted a question in the Video Card section about a 2xMolex to 8pin connector for my GPU. I got mixed answers (ranging from "it's not supposed to be used like this but it will work" to "your PSU will explode and your GPU will die" basically). Other people told me it was the voltage and wattage that mattered the most and that if it was enough, it would work. So I did some research and I found that my GPU (MSI GTX 760 Twin Frozr Gaming) had a power consumption of 170W. Then I also found this other site which described all the different wattages per connector. It said that a 6pin delivers 75W, an 8pin 150W and another 75W for my PCIe slot, which would total to 300W of power to my GPU. Now this site also said that a Molex connector would deliver 25W for a 5+V rail or 60W for a 12+V rail. Since I'm using a Corsair CX430M and the box says the Molex connectors are on a 12V rail, it would be 120W combined for the adapter, right? Doing the calculation again (75W for my 6pin + 75W for my PCIe slot + 120W for my 2xMolex to 8pin connector) it would be a total of 270W, which is definitely above the rated power consumption of 170W and there might even be room for an overclock. Since I have no idea what all these numbers actually mean, can anyone correct me if I'm wrong? Just bought a pair of DT770 on Amazons back Friday sales and as there the 250 ohm variant I would like to know if my computers on board sound is enough to run them efficiently or if I should get an amp. Also I use Corsair SP 2500 speakers and would like to know if the controller acts as an amp. If you believe an amp is required feel free to post your recommendations and bare in mind I live in Ireland. Thanks.

http://www.head-fi.org/t/778957 ANNOUNCING SF MEET FALL 2015 LOCATION: Massdrop headquarters 100 Bush Street STE 1000, San Francisco CA, 94104 map link DATE: Saturday Nov. 7th TIME: 10am - 4pm IT'S OFFICIAL AND 100% CONFIRMED! DON'T MISS THIS ULTRA-RARE CHANCE: UNIQUE AND AWESOME GEAR, UNIQUE FOLKS! Maximum Capacity: 60 people. This includes one main boardroom for 15-20 people, and another nearby room for 20 or so people. About parking: this is in the financial district of downtown SF, so we will need to arrange our own parking. The best lot I was able to find is SP Plus Parking System on 191 Battery St., 1 1/2 blocks from the event @ $15 for the whole Saturday. More parking options can be found here. I would encourage many of us to work together to arrange a carpool; or you can also take Bart to the Embarcadero station 4 blocks away. Food: there has been talk of free pizza provided, but this will be re-confirmed later. Setup: This is a 'local' Head-Fi meet so the atmosphere is casual, so technically you can show up anytime, however it would be helpful / appreciated if you make an effort to show up on time to set-up your gear (or even maybe 20 min. early). I would now like to ask like each of you to post a reply here to confirm if you will be coming for sure, and to list the gear that you will be bringing (if you haven't already do so), and if you will be bringing anyone. This will allow us to get a head-count and make a 'working list' of the gear that will be present. Also if any of you has an idea for an after-party or dinner feel free to arrange it here. Hello, I have one simple quiestion and that is are amps important when connecting LEDs? I want to connect switches that will turn on or off fans in my case, so when fans are on LEDs should light on. Power should go trought 4 pin molex connector.

Power Requirements if running R9 290 Windforce + 550ti?
Sentient68k posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Okay so first off, I know that sounds really weird to do. Who the hell would run a high end AMD card along side an older mid-level Nvidia card? I have a couple of reasons: 1) I have an Oculus Rift and I like to do development work on it. Because I like to do development I also have 3 monitors for work space and unfortunately this can cause some usability issues when working with the Rift. At best I have to disable one or more monitors to get things working right which is a bummer and kind of screws up any workflow I might have when using all screens and the Rift at the same time. I could offload my secondary screens to the 550Ti to help resolve some of this. 2) I also work in Blender and the Cycles renderer can make use of my Nivida GPU (but not my AMD GPU yet) for boosted rendering speed with CUDA. Even an older card like the 550ti is useful for the task. However I'm not sure if my power supply will be adequate. Granted the odds of both cards being close to peak at the same time are low but it could still be a stability issue I'm sure. So here is the power supply I use: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650 G 80 PLUS GOLD Certified 650W And my hardware configuration is (or would be): AMD 8350 4.0Ghz Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 Motherboard 16GB DDR3 1600 (4x 4GB) Corsair Hydro H60 CPU Cooler Samsung 830 256GB SSD Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache 2x 120mm Fans 1x 200mm blue LED fan Asus DVD RW SATA Drive Gigabyte GV-R929OC-4GD R9 290 PNY Nvidia Geforce 550ti As far as I can tell my 650 watt PSU should provide enough wattage. Especially given the 80+ Gold rating. However I have heard there can be worries about how much amperage is provided over the rails which would power the graphics cards. I'm having a little trouble getting solid answers on amp usage for these cards. Does anyone have advice on if this could cause some issues or does it seems like this would work out fine? If it helps here's the stats on the PSU from the Newegg page: Thanks in advance for any help! -
I have a 900w PSU with +12V1 25A, +12V2 28A Rails but it only has 1 6pin and 1 6+2pin for pci Im deciding whether to get a Single R9 290x or dual R9 280xs only problem is if i run dual 280xs ill have to use molex to pci adapters would that be safe?

so I need a USB charging hub in my house so i found a few that look quite appealing (the links are below) however all have different watt, amp and volt outputs. I seem to not understand the differnce between the three. if your that person that on a forum needs a reason to care here you go- I7-5820k Corsair vengeance lpx Asus x99 deluxe R9 295x2 H100i Samsung Evo 120gb ssd Hx1000i psu So when I started my pc all was well but after 15 minutes my power supply began to buzz and it scared the crap out of me. It continued to produce a sound when ever I turned on the system but not when power was flowing and the system was off. I checked to see if a cord was in the fan but that was not the cause of the buzz as my fan was in 0 rpm mode. I began to research what could cause it and found two things. One was something called coil whine which seemed to be produced by unconditioned or dirty power from the wall but even in my comptia certification class which has the worlds largest power conditioner the noise was produced and when a load was placed by my gpu pitch increased and upon a sudden drop in requirements by my gpu followed by a sudden need the pitch would dramatically change to higher or lower. My a+ teacher said it was my capacitors where not a high quality and I should rma my hx1000i and purchase a seasonic 1000w platinum certified that had grade a capacitors to solve my problem. Is it likely that the capacitors are my problem and that buying this psu would solve my problem? The pc functions and does not restart or do anything else crazy it's just my psu sounds like a tesla coil playing a song at half the pitch but double the volume. And is there a better power supply that you would recomend? Besides the noise is there a risk this could cause damage and I should leave my pc off until I replacd my psu. IMPORTANT NOTE -my graphics card has some really special power requirements that must be meant however amd suggested psu's that had some crap ratings - also I did not daisy chain my graphics card I have it running on two separate 6+2 pin cables.

So I've been looking around for some 20$-30$ amps to power my desktop speakers I really don't have extensive knowledge in amplifiers(or any audio for that matter), but i'm leaning towards these two, based on a couple reviews: Lepai 2020A+ Tripath: http://www.amazon.com/LP-2020A-Lepai-Tripath-Class-T-Amplifier/dp/B0049P6OTI Dayton Audio DTA-1 Class T:http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-dta-1-class-t-digital-ac-dc-mini-amplifier-15-wpc--300-380?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pla Any other suggestions are welcome.

Hey guys, There are probably several topics on this, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I've got a pair of Sony MDR-1Rs as my main headphones and listen to a lot of music including vinyls. Was wondering how much of a difference headphone amps really make and what are some recommendations for some (more budget conscience)? Thanks!
