Hi guys, my name is Carlos, I’m from Mexico (English is not my native language) I’m kinda new to the ryzen experience and I’ve been running my 3600 at stock speeds for the past month, I started to mess a bit with the bios to see how far can I push my cpu to get better performance. I’m currently running using only PBO. I don’t see a difference in performance to be honest and I’ve decided to start messing with the overclock settings. I’m aiming for a modest 4.2ghz all core overclock but I’m kinda scared because of the rummors about degration in Zen 2 processors. I think I was able to get 4.2ghz all core at 1.3v using LLC medium and it seem to run just fine, but after further investigation I found that running that voltage and fixed frequencies might not be good for the cpu, then I found guys running their 3600 at 4.3 or even more at lower voltages. As you can see I’m not very experienced with Ryzen and overclocking, I just upgraded from a 6600k and overclocking is completely different, 7nm is waaaay different. I’m looking for advices and see how far can I push my ryzen without risking to shorten its lifespan. Btw, I was going to buy a brand new rtx 2070 super but I’ve decided to wait a little bit more for the new rtx 3xxx or big navi, that’s why I’m running only a gtx 1070. CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 MOBO: Asus b450 f gaming RAM: G.skill trident z neo (2x8) 16gb 3600mhz cl16 GPU: GTX 1070fe PSU: Thermaltake toughpower grand rgb 750w 80+ gold Storage: 1 XPG s40g 512gb nvme + 1tb crucial bx500 1tb ssd + 256gb m.2 ssd + 1tb 7200rpm hdd. Hi everyone, I have recently purchased MSI B550M Mortar WiFi with Ryzen 3300x processor. This is my first time of using AMD. I have no issue or no click sound when i put the processor on socket and push the lever down but when i pull the lever all the way up, socket makes a click sound. that noise processor . Is it normal or i have defective socket motherboard Extra info. If I do not move the lever all the way up, then it does not even sound and the processor does not release either but if I move the level to the top, then the click noise comes and processor releases from the socket. That click noise came for the first time and also the last time, and every time. Reference video of issue: Watch the video from here 1:10

Hey LTT friends! I wanted some input from y'all here on the forum on thoughts over X570 Vs. B550. In particular ITX boards. Currently I am prepping and getting some new parts for a build in the NZXT H210 (going to mod the case, build log to follow) and I am going to be moving my R7 3800x into this new build. She runs a bit toasty but I will be cooling it with a push-pull config on a 240mm AIO so not concerned about CPU temps. System use will basically be 100% for gaming at 1440p 120Hz, 4k 60Hz, and VR. Parts list HERE, soon to run a 1080 Ti when next gen launches as I am planning to upgrade the main rig. I also would potentially consider a future 4th Gen Ryzen CPU upgrade geared more towards gaming as I see the 3800x more as a heavy workload CPU. Here are my main thoughts as of now. X570I/B550I boards are nearly impossible to find in stock right now here in Canada. My number one choice is the Asus ROG STRIX X570I at $340cad and the only other available option is the Gigabyte Aorus Pro X570I at $310cad. The ONLY B550I option right now that pops in and out of stock is the Asus ROG STRIX B550I at $315cad on Newegg. Now, here is my dilemma, at this price range I already am paying a massively inflated price for an ITX board (about $40-60 more) and the X570 would seem like a no brainier. However from my research the Asus B550I has significantly better power delivery and VRM cooling Vs its B450I counterpart, and what I was most surprised by was the lack of a USB 3.2 Gen 1 USB-C connector on the Asus X570I (maybe in a 2nd revision?). The NZXT H210 has a front USB C connector that I was hoping to use for with a VR setup and isn't something I'm keen on giving up. Other than that there really seems to be no difference between the two other than some PCIe 4.0 BS that doesn't really matter IMO. (comparison of boards HERE) I really don't think I am missing any other key details though, but I do appreciate any external opinions as well! This helped provide me with info on caparison as well:

Hello, I just got my DAC to go with my tube AMP and now, my previously somewhat solved issue, is back once again. And its even worse (I guess the better your audio HW gets, the less it forgives). Motherboard (peripherals are not the cause, other components probably also not, putting cable under mobo mounting screw and grounding the cable worked before, now it's no longer a viable option) is not properly grounded, making "computer noise" in stand by and "screeching high pitched noise" while under load, notably GPU/CPU load. My current setup is: gigabyte b450 gaming x r7 2700 4x 8gb ram (2x CL17/2800mhz, 2x CL16/3200, running all at CL16/2800) 3x HDD 1x m.2 evga supernova 850w 80gold+ gigabyte rx 5700 xt gaming oc msi rx 470 gaming x 5 fans (cpu AIO 2 top exhaust, front intake 2, back exhaust 1) usb mic, mouse, keyboard, controller, DAC Now, can someone please recommends me a budget/reasonable AM4 board which is properly grounded/does not have this issue (please nothing top end or premium, up to 175 euro, over only is there is no other option left)? It definitely needs to have: two PCI-E slots (gaming/production rx 5700 xt, video playback rx 470) 6 usbs, out of that at least one usb 3.0+, if possible then one usb slot for VR if such thing exists (valve index is on the way) 4+ SATA 3 ports m.2 slot (but I guess that's a standard thing now) VRM which can handle r7 2700 at 4ghz@1.3v 4 ram slots 4+ fan headers

So, Newegg has a sale running on the Asus Tuf Gaming X570-Plus (WiFi) $190, free shipping (sold by Newegg) I was nearly ready to jump on it, as I have been keeping an eye out for an upgrade from my current (extreme budget) A320 board, mainly because I need more than two fan headers (3 case fans, and an AIO CPU solution), I have a Ryzen 5 3400G (looking to upgrade when the new line comes out (depending on what is on offer). TL;DR, is this a decent board? Reviews on Newegg are bad recently, and don't want to bother if I should pass it by.

So I was checking witch motherboards to buy since most are out of stock, and I saw that the Asus PRIME B450M-A/CSM returned, but when I checked memory speeds support, it went up to 3466 OC. I already bought my ram, which is 3600mhz C18 (but supposedly with a samsung b die). Will my memory be down-clocked? Or does the motherboard have little to do with this, and its solely dependent on my cpu? I have a ryzen 5 3600, which should support the speed. And when I checked other motherboards, it said on they’re page 3200mhz+, does that mean it will support most ram that go past 3200mhz (3600mhz for instance)? First time building a pc and I’m sooooo confused. Will it run at stock speed with xmp profile enabled? I was also planning on overclocking the ram to get advantage of the infinity fabric.

Hi guys, I am planning to build my first gaming PC ever and have been reading a lot about it these last months. My actual PC is more than 10 years old and can´t even raise fps of newer games beyond 5 fps. I am planning to build it AMD based and am trying to aim for a long run for it without any mayor upgrades down the line as to replace basic stuff like Motherboard, GPU, or even CPU if no significant upgrades happen that make actual game requirements obsolete. I realized we are at the end of the life cycle of the AM4 socket since AMD filled the 5 year support they promised for the socket and is launching the Zen 3 later this year. I was wondering if it would be actually a good idea to buy a series 500 motherboard since any future CPU upgrades past Zen 3 would most likely be aimed towards a new socket/motherboards not yet available. You would be stuck on Zen 3 for the rest of your motherboard´s life cycle (depending of how many years this generation of motherboards actually last). Do you think it would be better to wait for the next generation motherboards or buy a B550/X570 now (given they are out of stock and most likely will be for a very long time either way) ?

Hey guys So I've found myself with that temptation to upgrade, I currently run an X58 W3680 6 core at 4ghz with a Vega 56 (64 bios). It runs well and I always seem to be GPU limited as I play at 1440p however I have the chance to buy an R7 2700 and 8gb DDR4 2400 rather well priced. Now I have a Ryzen system already with an R3 1200 and 8GB DDR4 2400 that's doing really nothing so I already have everything else to go to Ryzen if I buy the R7 and ram, Im just trying to decide whether I'm really gonna see any difference. Obviously I'm gaining a much better IPC and two more cores and yes I could go r5 3600 and get even better IPC but they're way more than its gonna cost me to get the R7 and the ram so I'm not even going there. Aside from the IPC gains I'd also be able to use USB 3 which I'll have to add to my case (keeping the OG xps9000 case), obviously M.2 and another x16 slot which would allow me to add a second low power GPU which I've been thinking of doing for a while just to run my 2nd display as I drop alot of frames watching something on my 2nd display while I'm gaming on my main. Anyway what do you think is it worth the effort or just wait till something better comes around?

I have one question. What will happen if i put a A8-9600 cpu on a strix b450-f. I know the cpu is not on the supported list but lets say for example i install it on the mobo and press the power button what will happen? Will the motherboard power up (by that i dont mean to POST - just fan spin and rgb) or it wont even power on the the fans and rgb? I know this is kinda dumb question just asking because i found a good deal on "non" working b450 mobo and the guy tested it with A8-9600 .

Hi guys! I'm deciding between various options to get a solid cooling solution for my R7 2700 (3700X upgrade in mind). There're several options in my country and I literally have no idea until what point I would be spending more money than necessary. Help me out pls. From low to high price I theoretically can afford any of the following but would be nice to save some money and still get good performance and endurance. I have a bequiet PB500 at the moment, the case supports up to 360 mm radiator. I'm planning to get a Cooler Master TD500 Mesh later on. PSU is waiting for an upgrade to a solid one (I have B tier PSU at the moment). Current processor Ryzen 5 3400G RX 580 graphics card 16GB RAM looking to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 3700X, but maybe the Ryzen 9 later in the year, who knows. Trying to decide on a new motherboard, not just because my current one is an extreme budget model, but also only has a single fan header other then the CPU fan. I need at least three fan headers for case fans, and AM4 compatability, ideally to work with my current CPU and the Ryzen 7/9 of current model out of the box for when I decide on the new CPU. Looking at: ASRock B550 EXTREME4 https://www.newegg.com/asrock-b550-extreme4/p/N82E16813157933?Item=N82E16813157933&quicklink=true ASRock B550M PRO4 https://www.newegg.com/asrock-b550m-pro4/p/N82E16813157939?Item=N82E16813157939 Asus ROG B550-E (manufacturers website) Open to other suggestions, not really looking for a super budget board, but not looking to spend the world on it either. Thanks!

Hello guys, what do y’all think about this mobo?
-
So... I did a thing. Story begins with me, guy who likes DIY but can't afford a proper workshop. Or just don't have a space. ANYWAYS, I was browsing eBay and found a TR4 beQuiet Dark Rock Pro for £20. I thought, hell, it's really cheap. So I decided to buy it. I forgot about it until it actually show up at my doorstep. It is MASSIVE! I loved every single thing about this monstrosity. I had to mount it. But is it even possible? By googling through the vast internet I found like 2 threads about it. 1 says that it's impossible, the other one that you have to be magician with machine working. I'm not... ... but I have Dremel. It all started with checking the holes on AM4 motherboard. Since I'm lazy and I don't have any laying around, only in my main rig, I decided that I'll get measurements from the stock cooler. TR4 Dark Rock has one arm for mounting screws longer than the other. So first one, I just needed to drill holes through it at the ends. No big deal (spoiler alert - massive deal). https://imgur.com/DaGlVUX The other one, smaller, all I needed is simply make holes bigger. Maybe with a simple drill I'll be able to do it? (no.) https://imgur.com/SCQEo8D Now, the main arm needs an extra hole to make sure it will align with holes. (Impossibru. At least without any super strong/special tools) https://imgur.com/jDh2i1I So... Let's do it. First, I have couple of drills that might work. Decided to give it a try. https://imgur.com/SsEN6uW After 10 minutes, all I saw was just a small scratch. I gave up. https://imgur.com/rr4aem8 If I don't have a specific drill, maybe I can just do a hole with a Dremel? It won't look good, but it doesn't have to. It has to be big enough to fit a screw through. Try the first cut: https://imgur.com/RCIa6QR So after incredibly professional job from me, (and destroying one Dremel blade https://imgur.com/m5qkGeq) it came out like that: https://imgur.com/rA5EY5y Oh, so professional! https://imgur.com/Rg1qe6S But wait. I'm not going to leave it all silver and shiny. I need to be professional. https://imgur.com/9DExjzF Brilliant. Now, let's try if the screw will fit: https://imgur.com/Eoyqlma Surprisingly well. But I still have two more parts to destro... I mean, adjust. If I don't have a drill and I can't really do a star again... https://imgur.com/se9qWCX Meh, I'll be fine. And final fit: https://imgur.com/w5Vcj6t Holly crap, it might actually work. Or is it? Well, it's time to check. https://imgur.com/dA19YUP ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After disassembly of Noctua cooler I did a test fit of my better, improved mounting brackets... https://imgur.com/DdBandH It did not work. I mean, it kinda worked. Long one was surprisingly tough, it could easily hold the cooler, but the small one, I cut too short. What now?! Wait... what about that Noctua bracket? Might work... https://imgur.com/9IvmIBv Well, from test fit I learned two things. 1) I didn't had to get any holes to make it work, 2) 1 screw less never killed anyone (did you ever disassembly laptop and had zero screws left? I didn't, yet they all work). So as a test was positive, I decided to check first without thermal paste. Let's check. https://imgur.com/SyFJYib https://imgur.com/YpxsxmY https://imgur.com/5PL0zpX https://imgur.com/9QNY3is It... works. I think. I need to tight the screws way too much that I like, but it does fit. I can lift a mobo by the cooler, and it has NO movement anywhere. So I'm happy. On this photo, you can even see how IHS makes contact with cooling plate: https://imgur.com/xVXU03R ... or at least you could see, if I had better camera. Redmi Note 8 is not the best for it. Back to DIY. I decided that it takes WAY too much time now, I need to mount it. If I break MOBO, I'll break it, but I need to make it work. So: https://imgur.com/waFEFe1 https://imgur.com/EiWAPC7 (here you can see it makes a decent contact with IHS) https://imgur.com/0yNlW32 (mounted middle fan and front) AAAAAAAAAND! https://imgur.com/NPbhDIG YES! But wait. It did not post... (because I'm an idiot and didn't fastened PCIe extension properly) 2nd try, and... https://imgur.com/arZJKrH SUCCESS! https://imgur.com/Y6tEFF9 Temps not bad... OCCT stress test, after ~ 6 minutes it stabilized around 67*C and stayed there: https://imgur.com/tvBTQxr So after all. The main questions: 1) Is it better than previous cooler? Yes, by 10*C. 2) Was it worth it? No. 3) Am I proud of it? Hell yes. 4) Would I do it again? Yes. 5) Do I recommend it? NO. It was pain in the ASS to do it, but I had fun. And learned that I need to buy some new tools. Hope you enjoyed it. I know I did.

SO! I won auction on ebay. I bought beQuiet Dark Rock Pro TR4 for... £20. With mounting kit + 2 fans. The problem is, I got AM4 mobo with 1700x on it. And it gets me thinking... Did anyone tried to mount TR4 cooler on AM4? Is it even possible? Should I go with the flow and just mash it together, or it's not worth it? Couldn't find any info on the internets, so maybe anyone else tried that before? Technically, from what I see, only the heat plate is bigger, and I think it could be possible...

Hi guys! Im planning to buy a mobo, can you recommend any b450 motherboard or any mobo under 200. It would be great if there a built in wifi. Thanks! Appreciate the help.

Hey guys! I've been choosing a decent budget mobo for weeks, and found these two: Gigabyte B450 AORUS M rev. 1.0 and ASRock B450M Pro4 (or ASRock B450M Steel Legend) The Gigabyte has a DualBIOS and XMP support, but it doesn't have the USB C 3.2 gen2 and second M.2 slot, which ASRock has. The price range between these two in my local shop is about $1 USD. Is it worth having the USB C 3.2 gen2? For example, the only device I have that has USB C port is my phone and my power bank. Will this port be useful in the future? Thanks!

MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX vs GIGABYTE B450M DS3H I'm stuck between these two motherboards. I expect you to comment transparently with your arguments (for example, VRM quality is better, BIOS screen is better (?)) without brand fanatic transparency. In my usage areas: ryzen 3600 processor, 32 gb ddr4 3600 mhz ram (2x16 or 4x8 undecided price research continues), m2 sata ssd, vs650 psu and cooler master n200 will be used with mATX chassis. which is the better? thanks.

am4 Thinking 3 Years Into the Future, x570 Sucks
Kantuva posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Currently on the middle of upgrading GPU/PSU (GTX1050+600 Watts -> 2080Super+750 Watts), but first I need to change the small ab350m-ds3h v2 MOBO I have because of spacing issues with the new bigger GPU (sata cables/ports), it was a expected eventual upgrade from 2 years ago I estimate that after this change I won't be doing further upgrades (beyond maybe more ram or HDD's/M2 SSD's) until 2022 or so So the question is. Is there any reason what so ever to go for x570 as opposed to B450 if I plan on skipping 4000 series Ryzens? I was thinking better VRM's, but at that point I can just get a good-ish B450 right now (Asus TUF) and if I need to upgrade from the current R3600 to a second hand R3900X and overclock it some As far as I am aware, and after reading other threads, 4000 Ryzens will be the final Am4 CPU's, so then there's zero reason to warrant a X570 as the X570's wont work with 5000's series Ryzens bc of AM5 Socket -
I found a Thermaltake Water 3.0 cooler next to a trashpile (lucky me) . I think it is an older model. The pump is running quiet and smoothly but i have no mounting kit for am4. Is there a Adapter? Can i use the Corsair H75s am4 mounting kit? -> The cooler I found I found a mounting kit advertised as water 3.0 am4 mounting adapter on amazon but it is like 20$ + shipping also i found an am4 mounting adapter for the corsair h75i for 7$ free shipping -> Any help is aprreciated.

I'm curious if I can somewhat easily use this old, massive (and dirty) heatsink from a KnC Neptune bitcoin miner on an AM4 CPU. I believe I can easily attach a 120mm fan to the flat side of the radiator fins. As shown in the photos, the contact area looks be about 32mm x 37mm. Possible? My biggest concern is how I securely attach it to the MB while ensuring correct contact with the CPU. This is my first attempt at a DIY heatsink so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
