I've had my 1080Ti Founders for a month or two now, it being my first really high-end graphics card and my first Reference blower card. It is also the first card I've ever really tracked the performance of or pushed very hard. Finally, this is the first time I've ever gotten into using MSI Afterburner. I LOVE the monitoring options in Afterburner, but paying attention to my GPU load, heat, and fanspeeds have given me some questions. Totally stock speeds, only using Afterburner as a monitor tool. For starters, it appears that the FanSpeed is capped at 40%. When under very heavy load, whether its maxxed out Rise of the Tomb Raider or NiceHash Miner, the GPU will reach 100% use (or close to it) and the temps will start to rise. With stock everything, the fanspeed would never go above 40%, even as the temps start to hit 80-82 degrees Celsius. Which did not seem okay at all. I never let it get any higher temp wise, but i can't imagine it was waiting for something hotter before the fan kicked in. Stock speeds, with Afterburner User Define turned on. When i turned on the User Define button for Fanspeed, using the default custom fan curve, its a totally different scenario. In the default fan curve, it basically matches the fan% to the Celsius temp. So as you hit 50 degrees, the fanspeed is around 50% and so forth. Under full load it ends up hovering around 68 degrees, somewhere between 60-70% fanspeed. This feels much more appropriate. So what gives? Are the FE cards somehow capped at a lower stock fanspeed for some reason? Or is turning on Afterburner in scenario #1 above somehow capping the fanspeed at 40% without telling me? Is there any reason to not use the User Defined fan curve as in #2?

I've overclocked my XFX R7870 to 1100MHz Core and 1450 VRAM with +20% Power control, all according to a guide. My problem is, that the Core stays at 1100MHZ at idle and the VRAM is at around 1200MHZ at idle too, which leads to annoyingly loud fans, wasted lifespan of the card and so on. Before I overclocked, the gpu & vram used to dynamically scale their clock speed. Why are they not doing that anymore? Sounds noobish because.. I am a noob at overclocking. Help/Advice is very much appreciated.

Last time I checked Afterburner could read my CPU and GPU but now it looks like it can't do anything. My card is a Geforce 1050ti I have tried reinstalling afterburner and ended up with the same problem

I have a somewhat unorthodox system (GTX 750ti running secondary monitor with a Quadro P2000 running the main monitor) and am trying to figure out how to OC the quadro. MSI Afterburner seems to work fine on the 750ti, but after I move the sliders on the Quadro settings and click "Apply," they revert back to 0, even if I bump clock speeds by only 1 MHz. I see threads where people claim to have overclocked their Quadro cards, but they don't detail how they did it. I've also heard that Quadro cards can't be OC'd using 3rd party software or even with the Nvidia Control Panel. Is the card stuck at stock speeds or is there a workaround I haven't tried yet?

I tried to figure out why I get so low fps and I noticed that nothing in my setup seems to run at 100%. ( They can run at 100% tho. I've seen it before. ) I'll include a picture of afterburner. I took that picture while running "Cities Skylines" at 18fps (!) although cpu & gpu were both only at about 50%. I don't really know what to check anymore. Mainboard: ASRock N68-GS4 FX CPU: AMD FX-9590 GPU: Sapphire radeon rx 480 nitro+ RAM: 2x 8GB DDR3 I'll include pictures with more specific specs. Thanks in advance!

I have an AMD R9 270 that I wanted to try a little overclocking with, or maybe an undervolt because these cards aren't really known to run cool. I fired up MSI Afterburner, no control. Settings apply but no changes to the clocks, can't even control the fan. So AMD Overdrive it is, and still no control. I stress tested and ran games to test my overclocks but it still ran at the base speeds. Fan doesn't seem to ramp up or down despite Afterburner reporting the fan speeding up under an Aida 64 stress test on the GPU. Also no core voltage shows, and I can't change it nor the temp limit sliders in Afterburner. Latest drivers are installed and a restart.

I just finished overclocking my EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Black Edition using MSI Afterburner by following the steps shown in Panjno's overclocking video on Youtube. I was able to achieve these results stably. However, after the completion of the overclock, I still have a few lingering questions, which I've listed below: 1. In the video, Panjno was able to achieve a power limit of of 120%, whereas mine is locked at 112%. Why is this? Is there any way I can increase my power limit further? 2. What is core voltage? The option is locked by defualt, and Panjno did not alter it in his video, but I am still curious about it. Is it relevant to the overclock?

Hey , this might be a dumb question , but how do I change the voltage when overclocking a graphics card , as far as I can see afterburner only allows you to change core voltage (%) and dragging the slider up doesnt change much. How do I change the actual voltage (ie. 1.2mv to 1.3) and in what intervals should I change it when I find out how

So I have a friend who newly built a PC and I was following up with it. She installed Windows10 latest version, Nvidia drivers and everything including MSI Afterburner, and everything was working perfectly fine. Then she opened afterburner, left everything to default, and moved ONLY the clock and memory sliders all the way to the right and hit apply, then CLOSED it. The computer went to black screen and since then it doesn't even post. She tried to restart, turn it off and on, unplug the screen and then plug it in back, but no luck. Everything turns on including the screen but it stays completely black. The PC specs: Ryzen 5 3600 Asus TUF x570 wifi Motherboard ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 2060 Twin Fan CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB Samsung 970 EVO CORSAIR RMX Series (2018), RM650x The LED on the motherboard shows a white color which according to the manual it means an issue with VGA. Is there a solution to this or did she break something? SOLVED! Steps followed: Unplugged the PSU from the wall Had to take off the GPU to access the MB battery Took off the battery from the MB and waited for 10 minutes (just what NWC Pc benchmarks did) Put everything back and turned it on This time, it turned on and post Went to safe mode and uninstalled Afterburner (just what JayTwoCents did)

Hi! Lately I started using my pc for couch gaming so noise levels became important to me. I have a gainward phoenix 1080, which is supposed to be a quiet card, however even if I set the fan speed to a fix one in afterburner the fans ramp up under load, sounding like a jet engine. The strange thing that none of the rpms, actually change in monitoring. So if I set it to 1000 rpm fixed the noise is much louder while under load (I tried with superstition and furmark) I checked every other fans, and it’s the gpu that makes the noise for sure, as cpu even while stress tested is much quieter and my case fans are fixed at 100%. How could I fix this problem? Thanks!

Like the title says, I launched afterburner to see temps and such and I noticed that about every 10 seconds on the dot I get a notification saying "Connection to GPU 1 lost." This is followed by a steep drop on the charts to "0" for all readings on GPU 1, which is then followed by a rise again to normal readings. Now normally I wouldn't consider this such a problem considering that my laptop is running still running software-wise just fine. However, 2 days ago my HDMI port stopped working. All pins look just fine in the port and the cable definitely still works. Since I used afterburner about 1 week ago and it was just fine, I am assuming that these two are somehow linked. Does anybody know what the problem could be or how I could fix it? Or if it is even a problem at all? Thank you for your help ?

No matter what temperature limit in MSI Afterburner I set for my GTX 1080, it won't stick to It's currently set at 75 degrees but running at 81 degrees. I'm a bit stuck because temp limits work fine on my other card and had previously worked fine a few weeks ago. Temp limits are because of bitcoin mining just in case anyone was wondering why.

So I was under the impression that the Afterburner overlay (RTSS) wouldn't work with Universal Windows Platform games because Microsoft made it all really screwy compatibility wise, but I was just running Forza 7 with Afterburner and I get the overlay, and it seems to be perfectly functional? I'm running Afterburner v.4.5.0.12819 with RTSS v7.1.0 - RX 580 8GB with Adrenalin 19.4.1 Drivers - Forza 7 Ver. 1.163.2389.2

Here's my setup Note that my issues occur with or without overclocking the GPU. Gigabyte Z390 Master i9-9900k 5.0ghz at 1.275 32GB Corsair 3200 ram EVGA 2080ti XC gaming 11gb Thermaltake PCI Riser cable to the x16 number 1 slot. Cooler Master v1200 PSU Full custom loop system with EK errthang. 2 360mm rads. Prime 95 for 12 hours temps on CPU never reach above 60c I can't do GPU testing because of the crashes but running GPU-z I never see over 54c anytime at 100% usage. I haven't paid a lot of attention to the voltages yet. What's weird is that with no overclocking on I'm seeing 2000+ core clock speeds in GPU-z when my card has a base of 1650 and boost of 1850 or so. Playing any game (except Far Cry 5 for some reason) I get the dreaded "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding" 10-20 minutes in. Here's what I have tried. DDU to uninstall all drivers and installed anywhere from 399 - 417.22 drivers (most people say these are stable) Turned off all undeeded services such as RGB software, Samsung magician, etc. Underclocked the core and memeory clock on the GPU using MSI Afterburner 1 PCI power cable vs 2 from the PSU Moving to the X8 PCI slot. Reformatted the entire machine. Last night as a last ditch effort I underclocked core and memory clock to the max (~500mhz on each) and limited power to 80% and magically all things started working. Tonight I'm going to only limit the power and keep the core and memory clock at stock to see if that works. What are your thoughts? Software / firmware is screwy? PSU is dying? I'm just dumb? I'm glad it's working but I shouldn't have to underclock or underpower this card for it to work. I'm open to any suggestions.

Hello, I have a problem as stated above. Its annoying me becauses my GPU fans are off when idle and from time to time start blasting at 70% . I sometimes leave my pc on for a night and its getting on my nerves. The curve will apply the second I turn the Afterburner on. My Oc stays even when the program is off but not the curve. Im using the latest built. Any ideas?

Hi, i have i7 9700k @5.00ghz @1.29v, LLC lvl 4 when playing games msi afterburner and hwinfo are reporting CPU temps 60-70 across all 8 cores. On the other hand ai suite is reporting 10 degrees lower which is lowering fans speed as im using ai suite fans control. Which one should i believe, i know temps in the 60s are safe but still i have 240mm aio and should have lower temps.

Hello LTT Forum, i am coming to you since i have some problems with my new RTX 2070 Super. I just got this model from Gigabyte (the 8GB Gaming OC version) and it is running just fine and i can feel the upgrade from my 1060 6G (also from Gigabyte). The problem i am experiencing is that whenever i change any setting in MSI Afterburner or Aorus Engine the complete system freezes, its like it is suddenly under 100% load (but there is no load) until it just black screen's out and i have to hard reset. Dies does happen on any setting, also fan speed or anything else. The same goes for Aorus Engine (which is by gigabyte). Also the PCI-E PSU Power indicators are off (means stable psu according to the doc of the card). I am currently worried that there is something wrong with my card. It is advertised as around ~1800 MHz boost frequency but i am only getting a constant 1605 MHz under load. Did anyone else ever experience such problems? Should i return the card and get a different model? I am using the latest nvidia driver. latest msi afterburner, heck i even reinstalled windows 10 and reconfigured my whole machine just before i opened this post. Does anyone have a suggestion on what could be wrong? I am looking foreward for your answers ? Ps: Sorry for my grammar, i am not a native speaker.

Hey all! I have an XFX 5700 XT Thicc III Ultra, and have read a number of threads about people's experiences with undervolting. The general sense I have is that doing so won't really impact performance much, but could significantly improve my fan noise and temperatures. Is this true? Should I use Afterburner to undervolt my card? And if so, by how much? :)

Hey guys, so I was playing with my overclock on my gtx 1080 using afterburner. Sadly a very risky oc got saved on my "start a boot" profile and now I can't adjust the OC before the card crashes. I hope someone knows a way to help and I hope everyone's having a wonderful day.

Why Corevoltage (mV) is disabled in Afterburner?
Mr. Question Asker posted a topic in Graphics Cards
-
There are lots of people saying they have hit 2.1 and even 2.2 ghz on their msi gaming x gtx 1080. I tried overclocking my gpu using msi afterburner with +140 and +400 and that was as far as it would go before it completely crashed. The core clock was only at around 1.9 ghz. My gpu temperatures were still at 50 C with fans spinning at 55%. I have already set the maximum voltage to 120% and max temperature to 92 C. Am I doing something wrong or am I just the unluckiest person in the world? BTW I used furmark to run the tests.

Hi there guys yesterday i installed the new 416.34 nvidia drivers and since i restarted my PC it's been very slow and unresponsive,my mouse is lagging and i can't even open a folder . After 2h of digging in safe mode i noticed that when i Apply my Overclock to the gpu only then it starts to behave like that. And no it's not unstable overclock i have been running it like that for maybe a year now no problems. And also no matter how much oc i apply it's still doing the same. Same using EVGA Precision X . I tried installing nvidia drivers one more time also tried reinstalling MSI afterburner. Also tried to load optimized defaults in the bios since i had a 700mhz overclock on my fx 8350 and i thought it might be the coulprit. Still no luck. What should i try next? Anyone had a problem like that?
