Hey, I'm experiencing a strange issue with my Gigabyte RTX 2060. The fans can not be controlled by any software. I've tried 3rd party, Aorus Engine, MSI Afterburner and everything inbetween. The reason why I'm desperate to control the cooling fans is because as soon as the GPU hits any kind of load, the fans ramp up to 100% and never comes back down until I restart the system. At idle the GPU is sitting at 29-31 degrees celsius and under load (typically MW2) it's sitting at 55-65 degrees. Even with headset on it sounds like my computer is trying to fly away. In Aorus engine none of the sliders will even move. It is detecting my GPU, but nu functions are available. In MSI Afterburner the slider on the dashboard can be adjusted, and the GPU fan speed curve can be adjusted. But my card will not obey. In fan control by Rem0o, it is detecting the GPU, but is greyed out so it can not be controlled. Has anyone encountered the same issue before?

Hi guys, first time user for AMD GPU. I came from RTX 3070, so I'm used to using afterburner for both overclocking and in-game RTSS overlay. Since I bought the 7900xtx, I heard that adrenaline is better for overclock and undervolt amd GPU, so I tried using it for tuning, and kept the afterburner for in-game overlay. However, I noticed so weird behavior for using both app in the same time, even though I set everything to default on afterburner, and just set tuning with adrenaline. The fan curve is bugged, and weird crashing happening. My question is: Will afterburner conflict with adrenaline and fight to reset my gpu tuning? Can I use both app at the same time, or better yet, disable the afterburner functions about tuning and fan curve control? Ps. I know adrenaline also has in-game overlay, but since I can't seem to find a way to customize the overlay content, it won't do for me. Thank you!

I installed afterburner on my new machine recently. I7-13700k and rtx 3080 ti founders edition. This machine ran fine for months until I tried to OC the graphics card with afterburner. I ended up turning the core clock up to like 2000 and the memory only about a +200 boost. I adjusted the curve manually and somehow made it unstable. No big deal I would just revert the changes.. but before I realized I had an issue. I went into CCleaner and cleaned the registry. I don't know if that is relevant, but now I can not get my gpu stable. I have tried everything I can think of: I have even changed out the motherboard and power supply (thought it may be cpu but am certain now its the gpu); I have reinstalled windows. I am watching the clock speeds for the card on HWinfo and it still wants to boost to the OC I set before all the troubleshooting. I Uninstalled afterburner and my gpu drivers with display driver Uninstaller via safe mode, but the issue persists. I have no idea what to do, any suggestions, please?

So ever since Doom Eternal came out I was obssesed with how well it could run and how high my FPS was at all times getting almost full 144hz 1440p with my rtx 2080 and 9900k. That was over 2 years ago now. Even then I had this suspesion that everytime MSI Afterburner and RTSS are running I'm getting stutters in game, never bothered to check and invistigate. For a while I just skiped Afterburner+RTSS while playing the game because it was running well and I though if I suspect it, why let them run! Now I've been doing my 3rd run of the game and in the meantime switched from a 3090 to a 4070ti, and a whole new DDR5 machine with a 13900kf. Finally, I've decided to sit down and do analysis on if this is actually the case since it was happeneing on an entirely new machine as well( OS was changed at least 5 times with fresh installs going from win 10 to win 11). So I did using CapframeX. And yes, MSI Afterburner positively causes stutters, and I ran this test on the same area of the game doing the same fighting section over and over again maybe 30 times. I have screenshoted and edited the result to let you guys see and say what you think. Maybe someone else could try and see if this is the case for them as well. ( RTSS seems to not be causing any issues) My copy of the game is running through the Steam version, I have played the non-Steam version too and had the same result. Steam overlay was disabled at all times. Thoughts? Maybe someone else could do a similar test and let me know.

undervolting MSI Afterburner does not apply changes correctly
Maksab posted a topic in Troubleshooting
MSI Afterburner does not aply changes I have some weird issue with Afterburner. I undervolted my Manli RTX 3070 a few weeks ago and everything worked great (1935Mhz at 950mV): lower temps, lower energy usage, more stable clocks etc. It worked really well until I left for a few days. When I came back home, I noticed that my 3070 behaved as if it was not undervoltet. I checked and in MSI Afterburner everything seems to be normal (undervolting Profile seems to be applied). When unlocking the voltage monitoring in the overlay it also shows the voltage as 0,95 V. But the clocks and power draw are not as stable anymore. Before it happily clocked to 1950Mhz (whis is wierd but I don't complain about more performance) while drawing ~180W now it is somewhat locked (But sometimes clocking down for no apperent reason) at 1935Mhz but drawing around the 220W mark (not all the time but quite often). Also the card is putting out more heat now. Under load its around 70C, which is the same as before, but the fans have to spin up way more. I redid the undervolting, reinstalled Afterburner with and without deleting the Settings, checked for any Updates for Afterburner, Windows, GPU Firmware and drivers. Nothing worked so far. I also checked if the windows virtualization features are disabled (I have read that that can impact undervolting). Thank you for any help. Summary Cyble Intelligence and Research Lab (CRIL) discovered several phishing campaigns that use MSI Afterburner to deliver XMR (Monero) cryptomining and information-stealing malware via 50+ fake replica websites. These Researchers have found that a large number of websites have been impersonating MSI's official site to trick users into downloading malware alongside the overclocking tool. Quotes My thoughts Apparently this isn't the first time this has happened. Last year hackers created a duplicate of the official MSI Website containing a malware-loaded version of MSI Afterburner. This time around it seems to be much more prevalent, with many more websites appearing. I've had one of these crypto mining malware infections before, and it was a royal pain in the butt. Luckily, I found a way to mitigate it by turning off the internet. However, when the internet was connected it would drive my CPU and GPU to 100% utilization. I tried many various methods of removal, using some of the best anti-malware programs/anti-virus programs/anti-rootkit etc. But in the end reinstalling Windows was really the only viable option to get rid of all remnants of it. If you downloaded MSI Afterburner recently, it might be wise to double check whether or not you might be infected. If you got it from the official website though, you should be in good standing. Hi all I have this weird issue with afterburner, maybe someone have a solution or ideas how to solve it. (lets start by saying, that if I don´t use afterburner, the GPU will go wonkers with fan spinning during intense gaming, thus the reason I want it on) So.. I have everything set up, tried various options firmware control and hardware zero fan override (so I can start at 30, it is dead silent at fan speeds below 55) The auto feature is not on and the box around the "custom" is filled (it is grey however, don´t know if that is an issue) but I can click it on. When I ie. game, the temp will obviously raise, but the fan speeds do nothing, the fanspeed just sits at what I have slided it too at default (like if I have it on 30, it is 30 all the time, no matter the temp, if it is 50, then 50 all the time) This is just an example of a custom fan curve and what I have tried to put on (I usually never had firmware or override on, those have just been used for testing) I have tried with less agressive curves and so forth.. But no matter what, nothing happens, it just sits at the fan speed you see the slider on, if I move the slider, the fan speed changes (obviously) Maybe I should try out the Asus software? I heard it have custom fan curve control as well, can anyone recommend that? is it as good as afterburner? As you might notice, the core voltage is also greyed out, but that is alright, I just want the custom fan control. Extra information If I hit the custom fan symbol at the left and then also add auto, then the fans do spin better (they still go higher, than I want to on lower temps) but it is atleast acceptable in many cases, unless it is a super demanding activity (then it can still go around 79c and then go full 100% fanspeed) I had similar experience (albeit nothing near this in terms if noise issue) with my old 2080 card, that went up and down all the time (also with programs uninstalled) but it is still annoying not to be able to put a proper custom fan.

I have had my gpu undervolted on my xps 15 for more than a year I think. I made it so that it didn't go above 0.8v 1300mhz. Some time ago, just randomly, my gpu would just stop working. When I'm browsing the web, or using photoshop, (just randomly) the screen will flicker and the readings from afterburner would disappear. The problem occurs even when it's not undervolted (in stock settings). For a long time, I just dealt with it by restarting my laptop and going on with my day. Then I got tired of it. So I reset my laptop 2 nights ago. All was good. Until I decided to install afterburner to monitor my gpu clock and Temps. But after setting up just my OSD settings and loading up a game, the game crashed and gpu poof. Uninstalled it and all was good. So I installed gpu tweak 2 instead. So, any insights on what could have caused this behavior? TLDR: Afterburner (stock settings) makes gpu go poof and restarting makes it turn on again.

What you need: Heaven benchmark Some other benchmark like Superposition MSI Afterburner Know what your card usually boosts to under load and at what voltage (you can check this with Afterburner and Heaven benchmark ideally running in a small 720p window so you can still check Afterburner while the benchmark is running) Let's go: 1. Open Afterburner. Press Ctrl + F that opens the voltage curve editor... great! 2. Find a voltage point you think is good, this should be lower than what your GPU uses normally, so in my case the RTX 3070 uses around 1.081v and i already know around 1.0v is fine for my card so i choose 993mv: you may have to experiment with that a little later, it's what we're trying to find out after all, at what lowest possible voltage your card is still stable, but most cards should fall into this ballpark. 3. Drag the point you selected to the frequency you want, this should typically be to what your card usually boosts (in my case around 2010mhz) just now with less voltage. Same as above, some minor adjustments may be necessary later in case it isnt stable, but in most cases it should be fine since its what the card boosts to anyway. With the point still selected after dragging it, press L on your keyboard. Hit apply in Afterburner. 4. Select the point you just adjusted again, notice how the curve is now flattened after it? Thats because we locked the voltage in the previous step, so now press L again, it will unlock it again, which is what we want and hit apply again. Save your new undervolt profile. You're done... off to do some tests for stabiliy with Heaven and if you think it's fine and there are no crashes then test with Superposition also. If it's crashing or not stable, you probably have to add a little bit more voltage or lower the frequency and do the curve again, but dont go over the voltage your card typically uses, as mentioned in my case 1.081v but that may differ from your card, and also we're here to undervolt. This is by far the fastest method i know of and it works really well in my experience, how well depends mostly on silicone lottery I guess. Any questions, just ask and have fun with undervolting and a cooler more efficient GPU.

Hello everyone, I recently decided to overclock my MSI GTX 1060 6G video card using MSI Afterburner. I got some great results initially, but I think I went a little too far because during one very GPU intensive cutscene in RDR2 my computer froze and didn't even want to boot anymore. I eventually got it to boot by removing the CMOS battery for a bit but my game ran really poor all of a sudden. I decided to remove the overclock but this didn't fix it, so I tried a little overclocking, a little downclocking, more power, checked the GPU temps and other stats which all seemed fine. I am at a loss because none of my games will run properly anymore, dropping frames all over the place but averaging around my usual FPS still. Can anyone help me fix my PC? I have attached a GPU-Z log file beneath while running a game of Halo infinte below, hope that might indicate something to someone here.GPU-Z Sensor Log.txt

As said in the title the fan speed % in msi afterburner doesn't match the others like Aida64. Is it because the two fans are on seperate connectors inside the gpu and aida reports incorrectly? Because by mathematics If, Fan Speed Highest=2850rpm and Current=1720rpm So Approx 40% comes out which means Afterburner and hwinfo percentage is nearer to the current % reported (Rpm is same in all apps). So what is this issue? Because in my previous 1660s dual fan this issue was not present (it had both fans on a single connector).

Hey all, I am running a vertically mounted EVGA XC3 Ultra 3080 Ti in an NR200P w/ TG panel (needless to say it gets rather hot and heavy @87°C under load #ChokeMeDaddy). In an attempt to try to combat these outrageous temps, I've adjust my GPU and case fan speeds, but I'm also trying to undervolt my GPU using MSI Afterburner. However, everytime I adjust the max frequency to a lower/stable voltage my GPU idle temps go up 10° from 53° to around 63°. Is this normal for Afterburner, or am I doing something wrong? My max temps under load have dropped between 78° and 80°, which is "better" but should I be worried about the increase at idle?*** ***UPDATE: I figured out that the reason is idle 2as so high was because I "locked" the voltage on MSI AB. Now that I unlocked (shift-L'd) the undervolt, and tweaked the fan curves of my case and the GPU, I am pushing 0.825mV@1800MHz w/ 37°C at idle and an average 77°C at load. Needless to say a 10° decrease is SWEET! LOL

I think its interfering with Nvidia drivers somehow, because this started happening around when Nvidia "officially" introduced their "perfomance / overclocking" features (does anyone actually use that lol?) Anyways, so when i apply an undervolt profile in afterburner, lets say 2010mhz @ 1.012v… what happens usually is it'll jump to 2040mhz @ 1.012v… Thats much too high and not stable in some games, and also obviously not what i set it to… It seems to depend on temps too, a few C more and it'll put it to 2030mhz or something, weirdly it also doesnt seem to affect all profiles, i think its really a temp thing, but still annoying and inconsistent. I need some ideas how to fix this, tried several afterburner versions and the Nvidia "perfomance" stuff is off, when I turn it on it gets even worse sometimes, overwriting Afterburner fan curves, etc.

I'm trying to adjust my GPU fan curves with MSI Afterburner to be quieter while idle since it's the loudest component in my build currently. I can turn the fan speed up without problem, but they won't go below 49% (pictured). I updated to the newest version of Afterburner and I have the latest graphics drivers. I read that it could be a conflict with other MSI programs or other software that controls fans, but I don't think I have any of those installed. Not sure if I'm missing some important setting or if this is impossible for some reason. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/greenlotad/saved/zxT9rH

I have a Nvidia Geforce MX230 in my ASUS X509FJ My GPU underperforms most of the time..not because of thermals...So i decided to overclock it But then none of the apps like Afterburner and Asus GPU tweak seems to work...After making changes and when trying to save the values.....It go back to the default values... I have seen many people overclock or undervolt the MX250,MX130,MX150...but i do not find anyone doing such things to a MX230... HELP!

Hello all, I am new at this stuff of the overclocking. I am just a casual gamer but I find the 'thinkering' with voltages and frequencies interesting. I have been trying to overclock my GTX370 using afterburner but I feel like I reached a limit in this process. Everywhere I have researched increasing the power limit is important but my slider only goes to 100% and I have checked all the boxes in the settings. I feel comfortable that I would be able to increase the limit comfortably because running Superposition benchmark I am hitting a comfortable max temp of 61C. With this settings I have been able to push the memory clock +900MHz and the corresponding Core Clock. When compared to others in the leader board it seems that I am reaching the memory frequencies limits but way below the average temps. Does anybody know how can I 'unlock' the power limit? Did I hit the bad silicon lottery? Am I flying to close to the sun? Thank you!

Hi All, I'm having trouble setting a custom fan curve with my Zotac RTX 3070 Twin Edge OC card. I've managed to undervolt the card fine but as soon as I alter the default fan curve, the fans go straight to zero and never kick in. I can manually set the fans to a single constant speed (like 100%) but anything else other than automatic, they go straight to zero. I've taken a screen shot below of my attempted fan curve settings to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong. Many thanks with this.

Yea, I got MSI afterburner running and I made sure in settings that the core voltage modifier is on. But somehow I cannot adjust core voltage. A picture of my settings v Btw, if your wondering, I have a Zotac Twin Edge OC 3070 and an 850w 80+ gold PSU

Hello, I got an msi 3080 suprim x graphics card, installed the beta version of msi afterburner and maxed my power limit and temp limit (116% and 91°c) In games and benchmarks i reach 58°c max but still afterburner gives me sudden temp limits (0 to 1) on the temp limit graphic. I double checked with log files from hwinfo64 and gpuz and the temps never spike up but they both say i reached temp limit at the same time i get the temp limit 1 in afterburner. I never see any throttling happen and everything plays smooth so i am not sure why 3 programs give me temp limit reached... Is this a faulty temp sensor or is there something else i could check ? Thanks in advance !

I just bought a 3070 and unfortunately forgot to disable/uninstall Afterburner. It usually starts after boot up and applies an overclock. Will Afterburner detect that it’s a different GPU and not apply the old settings or will this cause issues? I’m especially worried about the power limit, the current power limit in Afterburner is set to 125% and the new 3070 can only support around 110%. sorry if that’s a dumb question, I’m just a bit scared to damage my components/pc

is there any way to fix this? just noticed, and forgot to check earlier, but I was wondering already why temps are quite a bit higher than when I'm using precision x1... so is there a setting in Afterburner to actually use both of my EVGA GPU's fans or am I stuck using EVGA precision for custom fan curves? Hello. I have a Gigabyte OC Nvidia GT 1030 and have been using it for about 2 1/2 years now. I know that it is very bad for gaming, around the 750 Ti in terms of performance, but I have a very very strict budget and it's all I could afford since. And to siphon every inch of performance I could out of this baby, I resorted to MSI Afterburner after seeing it be used in several LTT videos before. This was the first time I had ever overclocked any of my computer components because I had originally used it in a prebuilt HP Z200 SFF Workstation that I got for free (which didn't actually fit in the case because my specific model wasn't the low-profile version so r.i.p.) so Afterburner's "OC Scanner" was a big boon and it fit really well with the specs of that computer back in the day, the first generation core i5's. Unfortunately, I have upgraded since, and built an entirely new computer with a Ryzen 3 3200G and while I have the idea of overclocking that down (more voltage and higher level load line calibration = more OC headroom usually), it doesn't seem to apply to my GPU because as I stated in the title, the voltage slider doesn't do ANYTHING. Doesn't change the voltage at all (the screenshots are different because of fluctuation). And I am worried that it is sacrificing power and bottlenecking my CPU even more than it already is. I have some screenshots that show that there is no difference between the slider at 0% and 100% while running Kombustor, and I let a few seconds after switching between screenshots so that it shows that there is no slow transition. I have no idea if this is due to the fact that this GPU is a PCIe slot only card and it has no 6-pin or 8-pin connectors, or if this is part of it's manufacturing technique or if my card is just broken. Any thoughts?

Need help. I have an RX 570 (Powercolor Red dragon), bought it brand new. It's paired with an AMD Ryzen 2200G. I like to OC it a bit but the thing is i have a low end MOBO (Gigabyte A320m S2h-V2). Is it safe or do-able or should i steer away from OCing? Thanks in advance.
