I'm just wondering what I should set my Render settings to when Taking my video from Resolve. and then importing into After Effects. Then when I'm done in After Effects, what settings should I choose for when I go back into Resolve for the color grade. Finally, what should I set my render settings to for when I do my final export whether it be in Resolve or AE. If I was unclear at all then just let me know I use Resolve 12 Lite and AE CS6 Thanks

My new render farm is done and fully functional. I have been having great success with adobe after effects cs6. it is about 15 times faster than my custom built pc with a quad core xeon, 970, and 16gb of ram. each of the nodes has an i7 3770 and 16gb kingston ram. I would love it if someone would send me test files to see how well it renders. Also i was thinking of offering it up for a service, and i was wondering how much i should charge. it uses about 800 watts full load so obviously power plus a bit more. any ideas will help a lot. feel free to upload after effects files to render and ill upload the final result.

I just bought a new Windows computer and made the move from Apple because I needed a more powerful system without having to spend a fortune. I thought I would try and ask here some questions in case I might find some answers: 1.- Are there any apps out there like Istat Menus on Apple? I want to be able to monitor my system, but not from a widget, from the taskbar if possible, so no matter what virtual desktop I am in, I can see it. 2.- I am having this weird problem with After Effects. I use two monitors, and with AE I have my timeline and some other tools on one monitor, and my Composition View and Effects in another monitor, the problem is that the window with the timeline behaves like any other window in Windows 10, I can snap it to the top to make it fullscreen, or double click the top to make it FS also, snap it to the sides, etc, you get the idea. But with the other window this is not the case, it won't snap anywhere, so I have to manually set it's size every time I open up AE, it doesn't even show the Minimize or Maximize buttons, only the Close button. Here's a recording of my screen to better demonstrate what I am talking about. 3.- Is there any way to preview video files and other files like you do in a Mac? By hitting the spacebar a preview window opens up and you can preview videos or files without having to open an application. Thanks!

Hi friends, I have a little dilemma on my hands, hope you can help. It is a 2x Intel Xeon Octa Core E5-2670 v1, 48GB, DELL Precision T5600 workstation relevant for 2016? I need a new workstation for After Effects VFX, C4D / Resolve and post production and I can buy for ~ 1200$ the following refurbished configuration original build in 2012 - 2x Intel Xeon Octa Core E5-2670 v1, 2.60 GHz / 3.30 GHz turbo - 48 GB RAM DDR3 1333Mhz - 825 W power supply - Precision T5600 case - no storage - no GPU [or some outdated Quadro] -The storage and a GTX 980 / Ti /1080 will be added later My requirements are as much ram I can afford, as much CPU power I can afford, a nVidia GPU and fast storage. It is this workstation worth the investment? Or should I build a single CPU Bordwell x99 consumer system based on the next i7 6800k 6 core? The budget will be $2200. Should I go on the higher frequency CPU or on number of cores route?

Hi everyone. A friend of mine asked me to build him a completely new rig that besides for the usual stuff he'll use 100% for video editing (1080p video with After Effects) and 0% gaming. He was targeting something around 850€. I am quite sure about what I'm going to choose when it comes to SSD, HDD, PSU, case and that stuff, so no need to configure this for me, but I am having some doubts with the CPU/(maybe no)GPU. He won't overclock. As for the CPU, the choice apparently should be between i7-6700 and FX-8320. I think the second one would be the smart choice as it's cheaper and he doesn't need that much (nor it will be for gaming), but it's out of stock, it's less efficient and all the AMD concerns/old socket. Plus no integrated graphics. Then there's the Xeon line, but I've no idea about it. i7-4790 not an option, prices have gone up and it pretty much costs the same as the Skylake version. Then there's i5 Skylake... not sure about it, although I think it would perfectly do the job. Now to the GPU, I was thinking about the GTX950... BUT, all he's gonna do is edit some footage he records with his camera, so I'm pretty sure it would be useless for that purpose. So maybe integrated graphics would be enough. And that budget-wise would mean to go with the i7-6700. Having said that, how would you go? Thank you very much in advance! PD: I almost forgot! I was looking for some monitor as well. Dell U2414H maybe? PD2: As for prices/stock, everything will be bought in spanish Amazon (Amazon.ES).

I'm trying to use Particle World to create a flame effect to put in front of my eyes(imagine Scorpion from Mortal Kombat). I have the particles done, and I've motion-tracked my eyes. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to make Positions X and Y under Producer follow the 2 null objects I created for each axis. I've tried Alt-clicking the stopwatches, then dragging the pick whip icons to their respective null objects, but then when I click elsewhere to enter the expression, I'm just given an expression error. Does anyone know how to fix this? The only expression present is "thisComp.layer("X-Axis")", with "X-Axis" being the name of the null object I want it to follow.

Whenever I record a video on my Galaxy Note 4, it looks compressed as all hell after I import it to my computer. This happens no matter what resolution I record in. Is there any way to make it look better? I get that phone cameras are far from being the highest-quality, but there has to be some way to reduce the graininess of the shot.

I need you all to teach me a bit about graphic cards. This is my current setup. Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Extreme4 CPU: INTEL Core i5 4460 Memory (RAM): ADATA AX3U1600W4G11-DD (DDR3 PC3-12800 4GBx2) Power: CORSAIR CX500M (500W) GPU 1: NVIDIA Quadro K620 (2GB) GPU 2: Palit GeForce GTX750Ti StormX Dual (2GB) Case: ENERMAX Fulmo Q ECA3360B-GT Storage: TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 (1TB) OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit I use this PC to do both gaming and content creation (Adobe Creative Cloud). Now recently, I tend to do more gaming and I felt that the 750Ti isn't enough for the high end games (CoD:BO3, Fallout 4). Also, I'm really interested in VR (Oculus, Vive) Technology both as a gamer and a student (developer wannabe). So the most easy-to-go option for me is buying a GTX970 as that will probably the only card I can run on this setup without changing the power. (I know it's barely cutting it and I probably will upgrade the power later on.) Now the main question is, whether after upgrading to a GTX970, keeping the Quadro in the system is still efficient when doing content creation (and maybe graphics processing on the VR stuff too?) Since if the GTX970 is just plain straight better than the Quadro at content creation too, having the Quadro in the system will just consume more power for no reason and it would be better, in means of power consumption and system temperature, to take the Quadro out.

I need to make a new intro for my YouTube channel. I'm strictly against using a template, and must make it from scratch. My YouTube channel is all about special effects - for the most part - and it would seem kinda backwards to not make my own. Anyway, I'm pretty adept at using After Effects already. I run into a wall, however, when it comes to things like 3D models or - shudder - expressions. My current intro is one I made, like, 2 years ago in Sony Vegas Pro 13: As you can see, pretty substandard. I made that back when my channel was all about gaming and tech tutorials, and now that it's about After Effects - with the occasional tech tutorial - and stuff like that, it needs to be redone. I've been toying around with some effects for the last few months, and even tried merging different assets from different templates(technically didn't feel like cheating). Now I'm a back to square one, and have a few ideas that I'm having trouble creating in AE. So, is there anyone out there who is good at things like 3D models, cameras, and lights, and would be willing to help me out through a Skype call? I'm available pretty much any time of the day, and we can stop whenever you need to stop. If you help me out, for as long as I use the new intro, I'll give you credit in the description of each video that I put it in.

I'm on a tight budget and looking at building an X99 build. I want to use a 5820k, MSI X99A SLI Plus motherboard (the one with USB 3.1), 32GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-2400MHz RAM (2 x 16GB), a Dark Rock Pro 3 CPU Cooler, 850 Pro 2.5" 500GB SSD and a Phantex Enthoo Pro. I already have a GTX 750ti and am not too bothered about gaming performance (as I'd rather go all out on a 980 or 390X later on down the line - as a pose to a 960 or 380 now). I video edit and 3d animate in after effects. I also work with a lot of 360 degree video. I've fished around on the Adobe Forum (I use Cinema 4D, After Effects, Premiere, Speedgrade, Illustrator and Photoshop) and many say GPU no longer effects render times and instead a more powerful CPU and more RAM is better (hence the 32GB RAM). I just wanted to check that by sticking with my 750Ti (for the time being) I'm not crushing possible performance. I also wanted to check my decision of going for 2 16GB dimms on an 8 dimm slot board. People over @ the toms hardware forum say even if you buy the exact ram kit (so another 2 16GB dimms) they may not work. This has confused me quite a lot. Any help would be hugely appreciated! Thanks, James

Alright, I've searched, but I have no idea what is going wrong. I'm a complete after effects noob. When ever I make a composition it shows it in the top left as black, but on the preview screen, it shows up as nothing. Any ideas?? Here's a screenshot of what is going wrong. Help please. Hi everyone, I'm looking for a computer that can render 3D graphics and video post production for under $2300 before tax. The price does not include monitor or OS. I have some parts I picked out and want some suggestions. I'm not sure about the cpu and gpu. Can I skimp on the cpu and go all out on gpu for gpu based rendering? I'm looking for raw CPU rendering power to speed through scanline renders in 3ds max. The scanline renderer is all CPU based, and I do not plan to use a GPU accelerated renderer any time soon. Scene size and textures should fit into 32GB of RAM, but I also use After Effects, so 64GB or more is a nice bonus, and also future proofs the build a bit. I want to stick with water cooling, not only because I want to overclock, but these processors will be pegged at 100% almost all the time, so I want efficient cooling that isn't too noisy. Because of a limitation in Windows Processor Groups, 3ds max is limited to utilizing 36 cores max. As mentioned, the GPU is not very important, and will only really be used for the Nitrous viewport acceleration in 3ds max, and perhaps a few filters in After Effects. CUDA is actually important for some of these GPU tasks, so I'll stick with nVidia. I stuck a GTX 960 in these samples, cause it's good enough. I could probably use a 750Ti without any major detriment. No Quadro needed or wanted. I will never be playing games on this PC. Money is not necessarily an issue, but I need to keep this within reason. No $8000 Xeon E7 18-core processors unless you can actually prove it is the best bang-for-the-buck choice. I managed to stay under or around $3000 total, just for reference. I'm in Southern California, and can do local in-store pickups. So with all that in mind, I built 4 systems: A Devil's Canyon machine with 4 physical cores and 8 logical cores (plan to overclock to 4.6Ghz) A Skylake machine with 4 physical cores and 8 logical cores (plan to overclock to 4.6Ghz) A 5960X machine with 8 physical cores and 16 logical cores (plan to overclock to 4.5Ghz) A dual socket Xeon machine with 16 physical cores (8 each) and 32 logical cores (stock clock) A crude calculation of (gigahertz * logical cores)/cost gives us these numbers: Devil's Canyon = 36.8Ghz, $42/Ghz Skylake = 36.8, $47/Ghz 5960X = 72, $33/Ghz dual socket Xeon = 76.8, $40/Ghz Of course that's all rubbish, because the increase in performance is not linear with each additional thread, especially the hyper-threaded ones (my estimate is each hyperthread is only about 20% the efficiency of a physical one; in some cases, they will actually slow down the render). All sorts of inefficiencies will slow down the systems, with the dual socket system hiding the most, I believe. But that is where the internet has failed me. I can't find benchmarks comparing systems like these, specifically using the 3ds max scanline renderer. Cinebench and 3dmark mean very little to me, and not even Autodesk tests much hardware. Closest I found is a user benchmarking thread for Vray in 3ds max. Here are all the PCPartPicker lists. Which do you think would give the best performance for the money? Also, if anyone has experience buying and using Engineering or Qualification sample processors, I'd like to hear from you. For a video I'm making I need to add simulated snow. I used the default CC Snowfall effect. Unfortunately, my camera pans around in the shot which makes it incredibly obvious that the snow is just an effect. I compensated for zooming by key-framing in changes in the amount of flakes and their size and speed. Unfortunately, this couldn't help for when the camera rotates. I tried rotating the effect with 3d enabled. That did not help as it just created a mask which rotates. Is there any way to make it more realistic? I am quite new to after effects, but if the method is a bit advanced I'm still willing to try.

Hello All! With the release of Skylake I'm looking at upgrading my workstation. I mainly work in Adobe After Effects/ Premiere Pro, but do occasional 3D work in Maya. My current setup is a Dell T5500 Workstation and is about 5 years old at this point; It includes Dual Xeon X5650 Hexacore processors, 32gb DDR3 ECC RAM, and a GTX 660 Ti. This is what I’m looking to upgrade to: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/YvV4Lk I'm a little hesitant to dump my 12 core system for a quad core one, but after watching Linus cover the Intel Pax Booth with their Skylake machine making 4K video look like nothing, it seems like it might be time for an upgrade. My current machine is feeling a little sluggish while doing a 2x 1080p multicam, and rendering times are a little excessive. Please let me know what you think, is this a decent upgrade or am I completely insane? Thank you for any help!

I've started using After Effects for work and personal projects more recently and I'm looking to speed things along so I don't have to spend as long waiting for preview frames to render out while I'm working. I'm willing to drop $300-$500 within the next month or so on a CPU and a motherboard to go with it. My current build is as follows: Case : Raidmax Vortex (tiny, so it'll only fit about a 9"x11" mobo) Mobo: Asus m5a-99x evo r2.0 RAM: 24GB (8 4 8 4) DDR3 1600 CPU: AMD FX-8350 @ 4.6GHz Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 GPU: GTX660 (2GB GDDR5) PSU: Antec High Current Gamer 620W and then storage and stuff Aside from purchase recommendations, I have a few questions: - In ideal conditions (multi-threaded with full scaling, etc.), roughly what percent performance increase would I see from switching? - I haven't kept up on AMD's release schedule lately. Are they releasing anything "game-changing" in the near future that I'd be better off waiting for? - Is the CPU the right thing to upgrade here or would I be better off with a better GPU and relying on CUDA acceleration? - I've heard from some people that something like a 4790k would triple my compute performance, which I'm very skeptical of and I've also heard that it'd only be about a 10% difference which seems like another extreme. Does anybody have solid figures for this that I could use as a comparison? - Would my money be better spent investing in water cooling and overclocking if switching to Intel would not provide significant performance benefits? Thanks for any advice in advance.

Hey guys, I need some suggestions for a rendering and video editing rig. I was going to spend the 8 grand on a souped up Mac Pro but I just can't do it knowing I could get a lot more bang for my buck building it myself. Its been about 5 years since I've built a PC so I don't know current components and deals. If you guys could have $7,500 for a video rendering build what would you get? I've got monitors, keyboards, etc so the budget is all for the tower. Thanks for your time and knowledge in advance, Alex

Ok, so I was planning to start a music YouTube channel. But instead of posting videos showing just a picture of something... I wanted to put an audio visualizer in the video so that it could be a bit more entertaining. (I know that there might be some people who like watching visualizers, and I have nothing against that ) But I found out that all of these require After Effects to make... and the computer I use on a daily is just a mainstream $400 AMD laptop. Specs are as follows: ASUS K55N-DS81 15.6" AMD A8-4500M Quad-Core @ 1.9 GHz Samsung 4 GB DDR3L-800 CAS 11 AMD Radeon HD 7640G (Integrated Graphics) 512 MB, 650 MHz Core, 800 MHz Memory 1366x768 Display Hitachi Travelstar 500 GB 5400 RPM 2.5" Are these specs enough to make a 720p audio visualizer in After Effects (any version)? I'm planning to get After Effects CS3; are audio visualizers supported in this version? CPU rendering ONLY! I don't mind playing the waiting game, and GPU rendering makes my CPU overheat and crash...

I'm looking to get into some photo and video editing but my laptop I have right now just isn't going to cut it. I'm going back and forth between building a pc and buying a laptop, but I would really like a laptop that I can use for school too. I'm planning on mostly using After Effects, Premiere, and Photoshop (and probably a little gaming to). Right now, I'm thinking about getting the Lenovo Y50 http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y50/?sb=:000001C9:0001392F:&IPromoID=LEN524848 These are the specs: -4th Generation Intel Core i7-4720HQ Processor (2.60GHz 1600MHz 6MB) -NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 4GB -16 GB RAM I know this isn't going to have mind blowing performance, but I can't spend a ton of money. From what I've read so far it seems to have pretty good reviews. Based on the specs what do you think I could expect? Would you recommend this computer and if not is there anything you would recommend around this price point? Thanks!
