Hey, I own a Huawei P10 Lite, and a random, unnamed app (or unlisted, I'm unsure of the correct term) keeps randomly popping up Google Ads, and it's getting annoying... Can anyone tell me a way to pinpoint which app is doing that so I can uninstall it? As you can see from the screen shots, this app has no name on the opened app thingy, and it's sole purpose is to annoy me with ads for way off budget stuff... pls halp

So in addition to increasing the character limit (which you can read about below), Twitter has also launched a $99 per a month service in the US and UK to allow users to promote their tweets into non-followers timelines in order to generate more ad revenue or gain a bigger following. https://www.engadget.com/2017/11/08/twitter-99-tweet-promotion-tool-public-beta/ So now we can definitely say that Twitter will be infested with ads everywhere in addition to increased tweet lengths. Reading from their FAQ, this is being targeted to people or businesses with up to 2,000 followers as seeing the most benefit and who do not want to have to manage an ad campaign. As to how this will work, up to the first 10 tweets a day will be put out as 'promoted' tweets to a targeted audience based on location and/or similar interests. Twitter estimates that this would cause the promoted tweets to reach an additional 30,000 people and 30 followers. This is essentially rolling out the program that they began testing in late July mentioned in this article: https://www.engadget.com/2017/07/28/twitter-tests-99-subscription-for-auto-promoted-tweets/. It should be interesting to see whether this helps or hurts Twitter as a business/community as there could be some people who drop out due to a saturation of ads and promoted tweets on their timelines. Also, do people think that a $99/month subscription fee for this service is helpful or hurtful? I think it might help to limit the number of users, but it is definitely a high subscription fee for an automated service...

So a couple of weeks ago I was browsing Redbubble looking for T-shirt’s with Grim Fandango designs. I did this on my iPad using either Chrome or Safari. I had never logged into Facebook in either of those browsers before. Today when using the Facebook app, on the same iPad, I suddenly got an ad for Redbubble and T-shirt’s with Grim Fandango designs. How does Facebook do that?

Getting ads popping up on my phone all the time FYI: No third-party apps. Only thing that I've installed recently was Moon VR (from Play Store).

Hey guys. I've been watching linus videos for a while now and i like the products he advertises in his videos. Of course i haven't been making notes of them and now I've forgotten some of the products that I wanted to research and can't remember which videos they were in. Is there a list of the products he advertises? Thanks

So Sony just turned its tv and video tab into a bloated disgrace as a whole page of irremovable ads. Utterly sick of their practices in first having to pay for a largely inferior online community with mostly p2p hosting of multiplayer , a ps store that is a broken nightmare to navigate and now a full page of ads rammed down my throat just to access other services I pay for on a product that I own . Lifelong console gamer but im fucking done.

Hello peoples of this forum! I recently had an idea and I want to check if it works. I'd like to make a keyboard sortcut of some sort that will mute my Windows PC completely for a specific time interval let's say 30 seconds. From a quick looking around I see that I can use Task Scheduler and a tool called NirCmd to create something. Does anyone has any insight on this? Do you know of NirCmd? Is it safe or am I getting myself in trouble? The reason behind this all is I recently started using Spotify and I get annoyed by the ads, so I am thinking of just muting it automatically whenever one of them pops up. I just don't want to get out mood I probably don't care about the silence break. Any info? Do you know of any way to actually do it? Cheers.

This is very off topic (or at least I hope so ). Sooo, I was watching some local sites for a new monitor (just big and cheap for my code lines) and I've found a Lenovo that look fairly good for what I need. And what is someone doing when he finds something that could be next thing to spend money on? Search for reviews, especially videos. One of the google hits were a site that incorporate the message "Uploaded by Techquickie". I'm like: "OK? What the f**k?" and search whole site for that video knowing that formula and the thumbnail is from YT and nothing It seems that Techquickie channel is so famous that it is used even for advertising. Here you have a screenshot with 2 links in same search, at the same site, with the same advertising strategy

I could really use some help somehow i got mgit on my pc (w10) and i just can't get rid of it. For clarification mgit is a legit ad company who serve a lot of the ads on the internet but somehow their ad malware seems to be legal??? i've attached screenshots of how it works 1) ad notifications keep randomly popping up in the bottom right side of the screen on top of games, videos and so on. 2) adding ads under the first native google ad links and above the regular links to whatever you've searched for. those links lead to a seperate yahoo page with the ad. It can be really difficult to tell where the ads end at the legit pages start. I've got kaspersky and north vpn and tried total av and malwarebytes, all did fuck all to fix it... I'm running out of ideas to get rid of this plague short of reinstalling w10.... Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I am the IT support for a small company in the UK, and last week, I had a phone call from a company claiming to be Google, from their Google Ads department saying that they could help us with the Ads. I have received many emails and so forth from other companies about SEO and Ads, the thing that has made me think is that they knew some of the details about our companies that are on Google Ads like the campaigns and so forth, without me giving them access to my account. Has anyone else ever received a call from Google themselves in this style? or would it be a company pretending to be Google? Thanks for your help.

Has any one used those blue light blocking glasses that LTT got sponsored by recently. Was looking to buy some but i don't want to spend that much if they are just as good as the cheap ones

news link another source I know most of you guys outside Asia don't have a lot of Xiaomi or Realme products but even low end Samsung phones have ads in their ui. Still these are huge companies selling a lot of phones and what worries me is that they could so easily harvest the data to serve users personalized ads! I don't know if they already do it but just imagine instead of your online activities being tracked now manufacturers track our daily usage to serve us ads. How long until that happens? Realme (spawn of oppo-bbk electronics so vivo, one plus sister company) has now started the ads in ui thing but at least from news sources it seems you can disable them. samsung had also followed xiaomis model of showing ads in the ui. This is a really irritating direction these companies are headed in. At least in India many people dislike Xiaomi for their ads and they still sell a lot of phones! If this continues soon consumers wont have a choice of having ad free phones in the low end market. Now, realme also has offerings which compete in the value flagship category along with one plus and xiaomi which aren't exactly cheap so just how much must they earn through ads if they're ready to take all the damage to their brand and reputation from showing ads to consumers? Realme has already called shots on xiaomi for serving ads and now theyre going back on their words. Another aspect to consider is that a person has already paid for the hardware and software that was installed. Can companies now generate revenue after they have sold you the product through software updates like this? It is similar to what linus was talking about in a wan show about tesla cars increasing their speed through a paid software update but at least that has an additional benefit on top of what you have already paid for. I know it allows them to produce phones with extremely thin margins and compete but at what privacy cost to the consumer?

Hi, I just recently bought new TV Samsung QE55Q60R which comes with remote control TM1950C. I have two questions related to this TV and I would appriciate any help to resolve issues I have wih the TV. I keep seeing ads for apps in the TV Store in the home menu. It's quite annoying and I would love to get rid of it (I did not pay full price for product to show me adds). Is there a way to rebind buttons on the remote controller? In my region they put Netflix, Prime Video and Rakuten TV quicklunch buttons on my remote. I use only Netflix. Is there a way to change it so I can lunch something more commonly used like Youtube instead? Would be nice. Thanks for any help!

Source: SwankyBox TL;DR: YouTube doesn't verify owners of video ads, nor force the Ad title to match the video subject. This allows people with malicious intent to create bad clickbait-esque ads and cause video owners to suffer the consequences (DMCA/Content strikes, mass influx of low video views, reduction of video recommendations, and mass dislikes) Media: Quotes/Excerpts: My Thoughts: This is horrible. Anyone with $5-20 can easily cause long lasting negative effects against channels. This should been implemented in the beginning for something as simple as adding a tracker for what ad campaigns your video is being used in in the Creator Studio or just by not allowing ads for a video you don't own. Just another potential nail in the YouTube coffin.

Not sure if anyone else is gettting these ads while watching LTT videos. Wonder if the guys have a say over what is playing, I know they have multiple videos expressing their views on the subject. It was called “Alternatives to Net Neutrality” and very deceptive PragerU like video: Hope they find a way to have a say over what is being advertised on their channel.

Hey Guys I use chrome for my daily browsing and I feel like there is an extension missing. So certain sites does this thing where they open a new tab containing an advertisement when you open their site or use certain features. I have tried to find a browser extension that blocks a site from opening more tabs than the one it itself is in. I have tried xTab but the feature simply did not work (nothing happened) and I could not seem to find any alternatives. Do you guys have any recommendations and/or how difficult would it be making such an extension without any experience? - Morten

If ads are served by connecting to certain advertising platforms and adblockers block connections to these servers and pihole does the same (block connections to these servers) then what's the difference between these two?None of them waste bandwidth on advertisements.
-
If adblockers block connections to advertising servers, why aren't advertisements added to web pages at the server side which would make adblockers useless?

Amazon's speaker lineup Echo is rumoured to start playing you ads based on the questions you ask. As reported in WhatHiFi (https://www.whathifi.com/news/amazons-alexa-products-could-start-playing-adverts): They specifiaclly discuss how you can scroll right through a visual ad, users may be forced to listen to these audios. However, an Amazon spokesperson told CNBC that they do not plan on putting adds in Alexa. Wa cannot completely trust Amazon at this point yet last year, Voicelabs told us that they were placing some 15 second audio track in Alexa speakers. Amazon has denied collaborating eith the company. What do you think? Would you like to hear some guy talking about how great this new washing machine is every 30 minutes? Me neither. Share your thoughts down below.
