What is better the 1900ACS with the ability to flash custom firmware or the new MU-Mimo router? I work for a big box retailer and can get both for a pretty good price.
-
So we just had our AC replaced and I was taking it apart (Split system) it began loudly hissing. as anyone would do I shat myself and ran out the door. what I think has happened is compressed air is leaking out of one of the compressor line. Bear in mind the system is a bulky R22 unit and the AC people said it had been de-gassed. im worried because it could be potentially be leaking R22 into the amosphere. but isnt it illegal if the AC guys dont de-gass it completely? and it could also perhaps be the compessor creating a vacuum and getting ready to implode. any suggestions what it could be? cheers, hman out

My main question is what do you guys think about it and does it have many major issues. I am moving to a different ISP and at the same time upgrading my network from 100Mbps to 1Gbps. Its not gonna be under that much stress. Im also using it with a Netgear GS105 switch.

So I recently upgraded my router from a Linksys WRT54GL to a Linksys EA6300, and I have been having severe issues since. This is in an apartment building with about 20 other networks in range. Before the upgrade, everything was fine, except for inconsistent coverage of the other side of the apartment. This seems normal, considering the range of the router and the amount of interference from other networks. I have some 2.4 GHz devices and one dual band device, so I thought an upgrade would help extend the range, especially considering there is no interference on the 5 GHz band. At first, I simply replaced the old router with the new one, and that worked fine for a while. Then I started noticing some connection issues such a the connection dropping after extended use. This got worse, and one of the 2.4 GHz devices stopped being able to connect to the network. The only immediate solution I could think of was to have both routers running simultaneously. This also worked for a while, with that device being able to connect to the old network. Long story short, the issues got progressively worse, with even the old router (which was rock-solid for about 10 years) sometimes having issues. At this point the whole setup is INCREDIBLY inconsistent. Sometimes, both networks are fine. Sometimes, I need to change which router is the primary one (connected to the modem) to get it to work. Sometimes, the 5 GHz band works on the new router, while the 2.4 GHz bands on both of them don't work. Sometimes, the DNS lookup fails on both routers ("Ping request could not find host google.com. Please check the name and try again.") Sometimes, the "destination net is unreachable". Sometimes, the ping request times out. Sometimes, the latency to the router is multiple seconds. Sometimes, even an Ethernet connection to the router doesn't work. Sometimes, restarting the router and/or the client device fixes the problem, but sometimes it doesn't. The configuration that currently works is with the new router being the primary, and the secondary router plugged in through one of the client (1,2,3,4) ports, not the internet port. This fixed it the last time it wasn't working; I just keep changing the configuration and restarting everything until it works. I don't know what to do at this point. I don't really want to buy an expensive new router, but if this keeps up, I might have to. I have tried changing the channel that the routers broadcast on (for the 2.4 GHz band). Is there ANYTHING that I can change without getting new hardware that might fix the issue? Any help would be appreciated. I know that keeping an exact log would help, but I'm not the only one using this network, and I'm not here all the time so the log wouldn't be 100% accurate. A tentative guess at what the issue may be is that the old router's DNS lookup somehow isn't working (I don't know how exactly, I'm not very experienced with networking) and that the new router is overheating. This just might be random enough to produce the variety of results that I'm getting.

So, at this moment, my computer is sitting on the floor under my desk. I've never really liked this placement for the PC, but I don't have a choice. Over the holidays I got a Ikea drawer unit that matches my desk, which is sitting right next to my desk. I would love to move the PC from off of the floor onto the drawer unit, which would make accessing the computer easier, all the while it'll collect less dust. The only thing stopping me right now is that the drawer unit is right in front of a window where my AC unit goes in the summer. So the question is, would the computer be affected negatively by some extra freezing cold air being constantly sent into the back of the PC, while on and off? At the moment the fan and rad for the AIO WC unit I have is back there. Thanks in advance. -JGunnz

Hello, So I recently took a trip to Bestbuy to get a signal booster for my Netgear-N600 modem/router. When talking to one of the people helpers i was told that it would be a better idea to just buy an AC router. Im not too sure what the difference is and why it would make a difference in general. Since i currently have a modem/router combo i am now looking for an AC modem/router combo that is under $200. Ive heard that the Netgear nighthawk is good but im not sure if it is a modem/router combo. Im not sure if an AC modem/router combo exists since im not experienced in networking stuff. Any recommendations, tips, and ideas are all welcomed and thanked for in advance. thanks

I just installed the Mpcie Combo III that came with my Maximus VII Formula. I figured it would be useful as a good backup, or in case I wanted to remove my PCE-AC68 PCIE adapter I am also using. It was extremely frustrating to install. Whoever designed it deserves a nice kick in the head. I had to manoeuvre behind my H80i GT and somehow managed to get it installed after toying for several hours.\ However, the next challenge was getting the horribly designed copper wireless feeds through the IO. During this, the heads of the connectors disconnected (very easily as well). I was able to reconnect them and everything seem(s)(ed) okay. Is this meant to happen? Would that jeopardise the effectiveness of the antenna it came with?

Hey so TWO questions here, What brand of router do you guys prefer? and What is the difference between wireless AC and N other than the range and cost? Is it worth the extra money? Thank You

This is actually a fairly neat setup, I'm tempted to give it a go since I have a fair amount of home automation tech already, especially my security system, so it would be a decent exercise to see how well an all in one system like this would actually work. Curious to see how well the router end of things are. The home automation stuff is generally not THAT complicated on the underside, the router tech however. If this is actually a very good router, it would make for a great purchase for those who aren't swapping out routers or other components all the time. http://www.engadget.com/2015/04/01/almond-home-automation-routers/ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R0C2U5E/

So you have a desktop tower with a 500W power supply. There's an on/off switch on the back of the PSU. The PSU has a detachable AC power cable that plugs into surge protectors or wall power outlets. Let's say you need to move your PC. You click Start > Shutdown, then wait for your PC to turn off and go quiet. Afterwards, what do you do next? Do you simply unplug the power cable from the wall like anything else, what about the On/Off switch on the back of the PSU? When I move my PC, after powering down, I unplug from the outlet, detach the power cable from the PSU so it doesn't dangle, then flip the switch on the back of the PSU to OFF. After moving I flip the PSU switch to ON, attach the power cable, then plug it into the outlet (I do this most of the time). Does it make a difference the order in which plug or unplug the cables? Does the switch on the PSU ever need to be turned off as long as you're not working inside the chassis? The other day I plugged in the power cable to the PSU, then to the surge protector outlet, then I flipped the switch on the PSU because I turn it off while moving. There was this spark noise that came from the PSU, similar to what you hear when plugging in a 2-3 prong AC plug to an outlet sometimes, but it came from the PSU point. Logically it seems like you'd want the spark to not happen at all or happen as far way from the device as possible. If I switched off my surge protector every time I wanted to reconnect a device -- which isn't that often -- I'd have to reset a clock on the desk. What's convenient and safe? What's unnecessary or not safe? When does it matter?

Asus PCE-AC68 Wireless AC Card - Windows 10 compatibility
siggerzz posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hey guys, I recently upgraded to an Asus PCE-AC68 Wireless AC card, was just wondering if anyone has managed to get it working on Windows 10? Asus initially stated that it was PnP, however they seem to have retracted that after some people couldn't get it working. I saw some forum posts (posted a few weeks ago) saying that they were releasing a driver but couldn't find any recent posts regarding the issue. Anyone have a solution? Cheers,- 12 replies

I'm planning on getting the Asus H97I-Plus for a upcoming ITX build. My question is it has a mini Pci port & I want to put a Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Network Adapter inside it, but does it require any external antenna or can it pick up wifi on its own? Because the back i/o shield doesn't support external antennas.

Hi all, I recently bought a WRT1900AC and after a few days I ran into a problem with my apple devices, browsing was really slow so I changed the wireless mode to Auto and this fixed the issue. Before I fixed the issue though I picked up a Apple Extreme AC with the logic that if anything can work well for a house with plenty of apple devices its an Apple Router. Now I can't decide which to keep and which to take back? The Apple router has less range than the WRT1900AC but everything is currently working fine and now that everything is set up it is just ticking away. The WRT1900AC has a much faster CPU and can work as a NAS, read and writes above 80MBps, I already have a NAS but still this is nice. It also has UPNP and the ability in the future to put OpenWRT on. I used to be a bit of an enthusiast when it came to routers but as I have got older, I have less time to tinker, so I crave stability. Basically to cut a long story short the tech guy in me wants the WRT and the Family guy wants the Apple Router. Not sure what to do?

Hey All, Moved into new apt. My Linksys AC1600 isn't doing so hot as far as Wifi range goes, I think it's because the building is quite old, walls are bricks and solid concrete afaik. (Does that even affect signal? I'm not a networking guy at all) Was looking into range extenders, but not sure how well they would work. Streaming video, or even upload/downloading stuff in any room besides the office, where the router is located, is abysmal. Was looking at this guy: TP-Link RE200 AC750 Extender Would this broadcast the same SSID as my AC1600's wifi network? Is that how this kind of stuff works? I'd really prefer to not have to connect to different networks depending on what room I'm in. Also, recommendations on range extenders, or solutions to my problem would be greatly appreciated. The router can't really be moved, because it's in the same room as multiple wired connections, and there isn't anywere to run long ethernet cables (no gaps under doors, etc..) Or are there settings within my router that I'm not considering? tldr: need performance enhancement for my wifi, pls reccommend

So here's the deal, I live in Australia and down here it gets really hot in summer. My room can get very hot (especially with my PC running games) and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any inexpensive methods of cooling it down, as my PC gets very loud and grumpy when my room heats up. I can't afford anything over a few hundred dollars so AC is currently out of the question. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

I was planning on pre ordering the gold edition for ac unity, but i might just get standard edition and not even buy the season pass later because the game is too buggy for pc, what do you guys think? Also, do you guys know if the season pass, bought separately, comes with the 20 weapons and 10 outfits, or it’s just the gold edition that has this? Hey guys, So recently I purchased an Asus RT-AC65U router/access point to replace an old broken one. So I got it all setup and running in access point mode and every now and then it drops the internet connection. My computer can still see and connect to the router but it's as if I didn't have an internet connection going to it. It comes back after a minute or two but the drops have started to become very annoying. I seem to be able to find many other claims with the exact same problem but none of the solutions have worked. Does anyone here have the same problem and if so, how did you fix it?
