I`m Currently looking to upgrade my current setup. I do stream games with a dual pc setup. I`m Currently looking at upgrading in 2 phases,1 CPU/RAM(16Gb 3200Mhz)/Motherboard/NVME SSD and then I was either looking at a new 1080/2070 or even a used EVGA 1080TI. My plan is to use my old 3770k as the streaming pc instead of the FX 8350 and to give my 1060 to my Girlfriend who is running the same 3770k but with my old 660TI. Now my problem is I`m not sure what to upgrade to. I was either looking at the I9-9900k or the I7-9700k. I do intend to keep the CPU for quite a long time (had the 3770k since 2013). I have a triple monitor setup(3x24") but only game on the middle one. It only does 1080p @120hz but at the moment I can only realistically game at 60FPS. I`m wondering if I get the 9900k I might not even need to use a dual stream setup. I read online and most people say that the 9900k is not worth the money and wait for the 10nm chips to come out. Want to get CPU: Intel I9 9900K/ I7 9700K Cooler: CORSAIR HYDRO SERIES H100i v2 (Edit) Mobo: ROG-STRIX-Z390-H-GAMING (Should i go with the Z390-E instead ?) Mobo: GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS PRO (Edit) RAM: G.skill TridentZ RGB 2X8 3200Mhz GPU: 1080/2070/(Used 1080TI) PSU: Not sure yet but probably some 800W+ 80+Gold Current gaming rig CPU : Intel I7 3770k @4.5Ghz Mobo: MSI Z77A-G45 Gaming RAM: 16GB (2x8) kingston hyperx fury 1600Mhz GPU: Zotac GTX 1060 Mini Current capture rig CPU : AMD FX 8350@4.9GHZ Mobo: Gigabyte - GA-970A-UD3P RAM: 8Gb kingston hyperx fury 1600Mhz GPU: MSI GTX 760 Any help would be appreciated. I currently have the RAM Mobo CPU in my newegg cart ready to checkout and was about to checkout.

Help me out here guys/girls. I have an i5 8600k that runs at 4.6 but when I do other beefy tasks (stream), it just can't keep up. My previous post brought up the fact that hyperthreading was needed so I should go to 8700k. I tried to build a pc that I wouldn't need to upgrade at all, lasted about 8 months lol. I understand going 8700k is an easy upgrade as I wouldn't have to change anything but the chip. But I like overhauling when I get the opportunity. Bonus time is right around the corner and I have to ok from wifey to re-build. I need some insight on what I should consider when going higher end. I am thinking of going 9900k, x-series, or even switching teams and going threadripper. I just don't have the experience with this level of cpu/mobo. What are the benefits from going from 8700k to 9900k and then from 9900k to the X series (or threadripper). Thanks in advance.

Hello readers, im looking for benchmarks belonging the i9-9900K and 1080ti SLI. If anybody is able to show me some, I would be very grateful. My concerns are that the 16 PCIe Lanes will be a bottleneck. The upcoming Skylake refresh with the 9800X seems to be the better option with his 44 PCIe Lanes. Nevertheless i expect the 9900K plus Motherboard to be cheaper that then upcoming 9800X. If anyone is curious about the 9800X:9800X Specs Thanks Ledury

Hi everyone, good morning Linus ! Got a good question hopefully. I have been looking at the new i9-9900K CPU ( that is back-ordered at the moment ), for my Premiere Pro rendering machine. I was all set to plop $ down on this CPU, but now see that the Core i9-7980XE may be a better choice. ( but is at least 3x the price ) Does anyone have any info on this Core i9-7980XE CPU in terms of render speed and export speed in Premiere Pro ? ... ( I am not a gamer and never game ) Will the Core i9-7980XE completely destroy the 9900K in those kind of things ? ( Premiere Pro renders and exports ) The other thing I must thing about, - this chips seems to have been released in 2017, which may mean Intel is now going to bring a newer high end chip like this to market perhaps in the next 8 months or a year from now... ( by the way, I have not been able to find any benchmarks where the Core i9-7980XE and i9-9900K go head to head ) Thanks for your time !

I just bought an Asus z399 Maximus Hero xi, along with the 9900k and some Corsair 120 + 140 LL rgb fans. I got the system to work fine without rgb and even stress tested it. I was missing a sata power cable for rbg to work, so I ordered one on Amazon. It was a 6pin to 3 sata power connector. I tried to plug it into a evga 1000w gold psu and the other end to both the Corsair hub and that splitter hub. I followed the instructions and saw videos on how to install it, but it just won't work. Only the motherboard rgb and the ram sticks light up, everything else was not spinning or not moving. Once I unplug the 6 pin sata power cable, everything worked but with no rgb. I tried a few times to get the rgb to work but no luck. Each time I had to force a shutdown. After about 4-5 times of testing, the PC wouldn't work at all. I don't even get a post code, all I get was the rgb of motherboard and the start button to light up the rest won't work (see pic, the cable management is a little messy as I was trying to troubleshoot). Is there a way use a safe mode? I tried to look it up in the manual, but couldn't find one that would work without turning on your computer.

Derbauer reported that intel messed up the 9th gen processors by using solder as it doesn't perform as expected and delidding and liquid metal are also now difficult. He also noted that the die and the PCB are larger now. What are your thoughts on the topic. Video link: https://youtu.be/r5Doo-zgyQs

Hello everyone, and hello Linus ! Thanks for hosting such a great forum. I've decided to purchase the new i9-9900K after seeing a few videos with benchmarks, and am wondering what RAM I should go with. I'll be loading in 64 Gb, and now have to decide if I go with 3200 MHz, or something lower and slightly less expensive such as the 2400 MHz. I'll be doing video editing in Premiere Pro, After Effects and using Photoshop. That's it. Since I plan on keeping this system at least 3 years, what do you suggest ? Thanks for your time, I appreciate it !

After having seen some things regarding Asus motherboards supposedly having cheaped out on the VRMs, I started wondering whether anyone have heard of better motherboards without the issue. (Currently have the "ASUS ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO" ordered, but i'm ready to change it if needed) Thanks for any help.

So I watched Hardware Unboxed's recent 'Was Linus was wrong about 9900K temps?' video What he said was something I felt too, as Linus' Cinebench R15 results were lower than other reviewers, and consequently the power and temps too. I was planning to buy i9 9900k, with an Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E motherboard, which is a $250 motherboard. I don't understand what VRM Phases are, and how to check that out in a motherboard (do they provide these specs?), so I don't know how to check out for a motherboard which will let the 9900K go to highest frequencies (4.7 GHz?) on all cores, unlike (allegedly) Linus' test bench. I am guessing that the strix Z390-e won't be good enough, since the '4 Phase VRM' Maximus XI wasn't (allegedly) good enough too. So are there any options in the $250-ish range, that will be able to use the full power to make 9900K reach its full potential? (I got 360mm rad, so won't have to worry about temps that much). PS: Not saying that anyone of these guys is wrong/right, pretty sure Linus will address that later. I just want to make the right purchase.

Hi fellow Canadians ! Does anyone know when the i9-9900K will be available for sale in Canada ? I have been checking Amazon Canada's website several times a day, and there's not even a pre-order at this point. ? Canada Computers had no pre-order either. The product is listed, but on "back order" as is always the case when a new product is about to hit the market. If they get the chip before Amazon Canada, I'll be buy there, but I have to tell you, I've already bought a few things for my new system build off of Amazon, the pricings are great, and many times you just can't beat Amazon pricing, and their delivery. ( order today and you get it tomorrow ) ( even on a weekend ) Anyway, I can't believe I'm so eager to get this chip, and get a new system built. Hmm.... chip.... chips..... salt and vinegar please ! ?

Okay, given the specs in my profile, do you guys think I should get a 9900K in general (I mostly game and do basic productivity tasks for work)? Also, I already know I should have a better motherboard given my setup but would I absolutely have to upgrade to a z390 before I get it? I saw something on the MSI site saying they released a BIOS that supports the 9900K on it so I would think maybe I could get away with it. Also, I know given the PSU I have I should upgrade that too if I want the 9900K to run at 5Ghz across the cores with the 2080 TI (Since it lists 650 Watt as the minimum) but once again, do I need it before I upgrade or can I skate by for a bit? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, So i am awaiting my i9 9900K (don't get it until November despite early pre-order), and I am a big fan of delidding, i delidded my i5-3570K and saw siginificant thermal benefits, was about to delid my i7-8700K but decided recently to wait it out and sell it to finance the i9 purchase. Debauer (de8auer?) showed 8 degrees lower average temperature, which from 90 to 82 degrees, is still a significant thermal gain. Thus I am considering delidding it. But the i9 is soldered, i am experienced in delidding before, but is the procedure different for the i9? and if so, how/what equipment is needed. thanks in advance

Hello everyone! I'm thinking about upgrading to an i9 9900k and was looking into motherboards for the CPU and have to admit i don't know too much about them. I was looking into Asus Z390's and i'm a bit overhelmed with the amount of available boards. Especially when it comes to the price jumps i can't quite figure out why they're so significant (except for that one board that has built in water cooling)... My Question: Is it worth to get the ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero instead of the ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E? What are the advantages compared to the Strix board? Thanks in advance for your help and i'm sorry for the garbo grammar. English isn't my strongest skill. Best Regards.

Intel has recently revealed it's latest 9th generation line of products and subsequently opened up pre-orders for them. As seems to be typical in the tech space there were no benchmarks available with all of the tech journalists being held back by NDA periods. There was one exception however; a publication known as PCGamesN who published benchmarks conducted by Principled Technologies under commission by Intel. The results in question proposed that the new 9900k CPU was up to 50% faster than the Ryzen 7 2700X in gaming. Steven Walton of TechSpot has expressed his concerns over this and also pointed out numerous issues with the testing done in the report. After doing his own research he found that numerous and seemingly intentional steps were taken in order to handicap the Ryzen system and present the new Intel product in the best possible light. The comparisons were clearly not apples to apples and the problems only just begin with their method of applying XMP. Steve's testing found the results contradictory to his own testing when which he repeated for the sole purpose of trying to replicate the Principled Technology results. His results for the Intel systems were not far off sans 9th series parts which are still pending the NDA lift but the Ryzen system was quite far off as you can see below. For me this news is quite concerning. I'm not a fan of pre-orders, especially when no benchmarks are available. But to have commissioned benchmarks published during an NDA is a step too far and extremely deceptive. Update Intel Statement to Tom'sHardware Angry Steve's take Beware, you'll probably want to grab some popcorn for these. The other requirement was that the FTC ordered that Intel claim it's stake in the benchmarking suite and outlet doing the testing whenever it makes a performance claim. At this point it doesn't look very good for Intel. They've been caught commissioning a "third party" whom Intel has funded and had publish Intel's own BenchmarkXPRT series of tests to release benchmarks during an NDA period where they cannot be refuted, also under the guise of a third party. I finally heard about the Intel 9900k and I'm kinda excited for it and I'm still going to wait for it to launch before I decide on what CPU to use, however I recently posted a thread about finally building a "modern" rig since my fx 4300 died and I didn't wanna bother buying another out of date am3 chip. In that original post I was going to go Ryzen 2700/x however considering the typical Intel performance I figure the i9 9900k would be a much better gaming chip, the other thing I had in mind is AMD is planning on launching a 7nm chip soon (Please correct me if i'm wrong). Either way I can't decide what to do and i'm drooling over all of my options and need some input from people that know the game better than me! Any input is appreciated as I don't know much of anything to be completely honest.

Hi all, So my first post! I have very tall Corsair RAM and a compact ATX case (Fractal Design Define C). The RAM rules out any tower coolers and it even conflict to some degree with a top mounted 240mm AIO. The radiator presses against RAM corners and I feel uncomfortable with that. I don't want to mount the cooler in the front. I'm thinking about replacing the RAM then with low profile sticks. My current RAM is 32GB (4x8) Corsair Vengeance 3000, CL15 which is nice but since I'm going to (probably) replace it I might as well go for an upgrade. I have my eyes on Corsair Vengeance 3600, CL14: RAM on Amazon But I wonder if it will work with a 9900K (OC all cores at 5GHz) on a Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro WiFi . The board officially supports 3600 and the Corsair rep on Amazon said it "should" work with Z390, but I've read that the 9900K may be picky over anything above 3200. Any thoughts on this? Thanks a lot.
