  1. PCPP list I just swapped my pc CPU from a 8700k to a 9700k. After changing, I turned on turbo boost on the 9900k to run at 5.0ghz all cores and enabled XMP. When loading into Windows, windows is showing me that my RAM is only running at 2133 mhz. I tried disabling XMP and re-enabling but to no avail. Is my mobo insufficient? I am on the most recent BIOS version.
  2. I know that CPU or GPU temperatures that reach triple digits Celsius are a problem. But I am not sure at what temperatures I should become concerned. I am sure that duration is a factor as well. My system is running a Core i9 9900K, with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition 57.3 CFM CPU Cooler, a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060, and 32 GB of Ram. My case has 2 intake fans in the front and one fan blowing out in the rear. I am using NZXT's CAM software to monitor temps. I am not overclocking anything at this time, though I may explore it in the future. I was using HandBrake to convert a 1.5 GB .avi file to an .mp4 using HQ 1080P 30fs, while listening to a YouTube video and playing Spider Solitaire when CAM warned me my CPU temp had reached 85 degrees C and that prolonged use at that temperature could damage my CPU. I stopped the video and my oh so demanding game, but figured it would be OK to let HandBrake finish rendering the video. The annoying thing is that CAM sent me about a dozen warnings during the render because the CPU temp kept fluctuating above 85 degrees and below and sent a notification each time. As soon as the render was done the temperature fell like a stone into the 30's. Is 85 degrees C a problem? How much of a difference does it make if it was at this temperature for only 8 minutes (approximately)? I notice my graphics card (RTX 2060) tends to run about 5 degrees warmer than my CPU when both are mostly idle (currently 38 and 33 degrees C respectively). Is a graphics card designed to run at a higher temperature? Or is the temperatures at which I should be concerned the same for both? Is the CAM software a good choice for monitoring temps or would you recommend something else? Thank you in advance for your advice.
  3. I have an ATX PC with a 9900k and an EVGA 2080 xc ultra. planning on downsizing to an ITX system but am struggling to find a case that can hold my GPU as it is the 2.75 slot, there is a 2 adapter which means the issue isn't the number of expansion slots but the space below them. I would also like to use the Noctua NH-u12a if possible but am happy to use a radiator of at least 240mm. hoping someone will be able to recommend a case I could use for this build, doesn't have to be super small just not large. I have been looking at the InWIn A1 plus because it looks like my GPU might fit but am not sure. Added points for a glass side panel, ATX PSU mount, dust filters and USB type C front IO Thanks in advance
  4. So basically I'm planning to build a new PC soon but I'm not sure which CPU I should get. I will mostly just be gaming on my PC so I'm thinking an i9-9900K might be a bit overkill though I'm planning to probably keep my computer for 6-8 years without upgrading it (well, probably just the graphics card once or twice) so I'm thinking an i9-9900K might be worth it in the end. What do you guys think? Is it worth spending an extra $150 on an i9-9900K or not? Thanks!
  5. This is my first time overclocking my cpu. I followed the instructions on the linked video to a T, except to the voltage of the cpu, as i didnt know what my cpu could handle. im averaging just over 4 ghz and peaking at 4.6. My highest cinebench score is 4714 if that helps any troubleshoot for me.
  6. Hi all. As many of you I've been eager to see the performance of the new AMD chips coming out compared to the Intel 9900k. I've been watching the CPU mark-passmark charts, and since 9900k came out it held the top position in the single thread chart at stocks speed. When intel released it's 9900KF version, in Passmark runs it's showing it beats the 9900K performance in single thread. But now I see AMD Ryzen 7 3700x outperforming 9900k at default stock clocks. And the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 taking the top position outperforming everything at stock clocks with 2981 points. That's almost 100 points more than 9900k with 2898 points score for single threaded performance. The score of 9900k is result of 2756 samples, so it's pretty accurate. AMD 3600 is based just on 2 samples (probably some retailers getting the first shipment and testing it etc). But as the AMD chips will be available/bought coming weeks, we'll see more measurements to average the score out. Honestly I'm surprised to see it top the chart with 100 points over 9900k. What are your thoughts? I've attached a screenshot. And link to passmark single thread chart > https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
  7. Hey Everyone, I recently built a new computer. Here are the specs. corsair 280x case 9900k cpu asus rog strix 2080TI 11gb OC gpu msi 390m motherboard 2x 60 mm nactura exhaust fans 2x intake corsair fans (came with case) H115i Pro (exhaust, ontop of case) 32gb ram corsair dominator series 512gb m.2 970 pro 2tb ssd 860 evo This computer is FAST and runs great.. Thermals are not bad even when gaming with full settings for long periods of time.. I ran into my first big problem with the pc yesterday. I am trying to compress a movie down to a small h.264 file and when I render in adobe premiere my cpu ROCKETS to 80-100 Celsius within minutes! It can chug along to about 20% and then I get a BSOD giving me a memory error code, however I know it's not memory it's just that the computer is literally burning up.. I am really confused and I don't understand why this is happening.. I thought when the CPU gets too hot it throttles down to maintain temperature however the computer just gets so hot it shuts down.. according to icue space my fans are also jumping all over the place however shouldn't they all be on max if my cpu is nearly at 100 Celsius? I decided to send the file to media encoder and this works better however the computer still restarts.. all my settings in the bios are set to AUTO and I had overclocking and XMP OC off.. I turned both of these on and used encoder and well and behold it worked! and the file was able to be compressed.. The computer though was still on the cusp of restarting due to thermals. At idle with no OC or XMP i sit around 35 degrees Celsius. at idle with game boost on and XMP on with oc settings set to autio i sit around 50 degrees Celsius.. which i think is rather hot.. what gives? I bought a good AIO and put two extra exhaust fans Can someone help me? Thank you
  8. im planning my first build, at first i was going to get a gigabyte aorus elite with the 9900k, then after the ryzen 3000 news i was going for the 3700x or 3800x with a similar priced mobo, however, x570 is looking to be more expensive and with intel rumoured to be dropping prices im wondering if ryzen 3000 with x570 is actually going to be better price per dollar/pound. if AMDs performance is what they say they are is ryzen 3000 actually going to compete at the price ranges?
  9. Hey guys, new member to the LTT forum here. I'm putting together my new pc build for this fall/winter and I'm trying to decide on the motherboard. Mostly for gaming with maybe some streaming/editing if I can fix my latency issue with my internet ?. I'll probably end up getting a 9900kf if it goes back down to $420 or lower and I am planning on doing a custom watercooling loop so I'll be trying to push overclocks as far as the cpu can go. With that in mind, I don't want to spend more on the motherboard than on the cpu ? so I'm looking at the Tier A section of the motherboard tier list on the forum and it looks like my options are: Asrock Taichi Ultimate ($255 right now with a mail in rebate) and a dickload of gigabyte boards... Aorus Master ($280) Designaire ($270) Aorus Ultra ($240) Aorus Pro ($180) Aorus Elite ($170) Thoughts on quality of the boards including vrm, other features, and support quality would be greatly appreciated!

  11. Hi, What do you guys think of this build? Do you have any recommendations? https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/fRzCYT Thanks
  12. Hello, im a new guy to this forum, i have a Z370F Strix currently and 8700K installed on my board, im currently planning an upgrade into 9900K, is it safe to pair 9900K with Z370 F strix?, cause i read some reviews that my mobo is little suck, should i upgrade or stick with it? thanks in advance
  13. Hey Everyone! Im planning on finally going and upgrading my old and aging X99 workstation for a "Go Anywhere - Do anything" -esk build. I have a Budget of 1200USD, and i am going to reuse my current storage and GPU(Gigabyte GTX 1080 - Watercooled) Here are the current specs and what i mainly use them for i7-5820K @ 4.7GHz 64GB DDR4 3000Mhz- I know its a little overkill for a gaming/light workstation Gigabyte GTX 1080 Gigabyte X99 Designaire r1.0 Corsair HX1000i everything is cooled under a custom hardline watercooling loop with 2 EK 360 Rads, Res/pump Combo, and waterblocks In Win 303 Case Currently i am using this for Gaming, Photo Editing, Software coding, and network stack testing/building. I am looking at an ITX build, with a 9900k, and 32GB. Ive been liking the look of the Phanteks Evolv Shift /X but have questions regarding the accessibility for the whole system water cooling, it looks like the X has more room and fit a 240 rad instead of 2 120 rads at 90deg of eachother. but im also up to hear about other case ideas if they are portable. Below is the preliminary spec of the new system i was looking at building. i9-9900k 32GB DDR4 GTX 1080 Samsung 960Evo 512GB M.2 NVME Boot 2x Samsung 850 Pro Sata 512GB storage Drives Corsair SFX 600W Titanium PSU Asus ROG Strix z390-i Mobo Phanteks Evolve Shift X
  14. Hello, Last time I bought a PC was my 11in Alienware Laptop back in 2009 or so. I don't know much about building a PC...was gonna go with a PC Builder like Maingear of Falcon Northwest but figure building it myself...I can get better parts of the same money. I started researching online..found Linus (I'm from Vancity), JayTwoCents, Bitwit, HardwareCanucks...the Verge ?... Building a PC doesn't seem too difficult...I have friends that have built pc's before and youtube how to's. I have enjoyed DYI recently on other tasks I have done. I don't really care about cost. I plan to game, watch movies, render videos for a possible YouTube channel I'm thinking about doing...plus all the other normal stuff. I'm not interested in AIO or liquid cooling...I prefer fan only. I would like it to be as quiet as possible, have good thermals, preferably power efficient when idle, when doing normal tasks, when rendering, and then whatever load happens when gaming at max settings. This is what I've researched and intend to purchase...I've definitely learned a lot the last couple of weeks. I also am open to AMD Ryzen...so this might change if I go with Ryzen. If you have a Ryzen build with flagship parts like best mobo...please let me know. I didn't look into Ryzen but read a new chip is coming out soon. The parts: Case: Lian-Li PC-O11 Dynamic (Black) CPU: Intel Core i9-9900K 8 core Heat Sink: Noctua NH-U12A Case Fans: Noctua NF-A12x25 120mm 4-pin PWM fans (probably like 9 fans...3 side, 3 bottom, 2 top and 1 back...I'll configure it for good airflow) Motherboard: MSI MEG Z390 GODLIKE RAM: 32gb (2x16) G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4-3200 MHz. (doesn't have to be RGB) GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming 11 GB GDDR6 Hard drive: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 Internal SSD Storage: Samsung 860 Pro V-Nand 1TB SSD SATA SSD Power Supply (PSU): EVGA Supernova 750 G3, 80 plus gold Monitor: Dell Alienware 1900R 34.1 curved monitor. Must be G-Sync tho. Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB Platinum Mouse: Steelseries Rival 600 Gaming Mouse ---------- Anyway...I would really appreciate any comments...if there are problems with the parts or compatibility issues. I don't plan to buy in a month or two. Also, if any of the hardware have issues...quality issues, etc...please let me know. Some areas I think could be different are the power supply...not sure how much power I need...I used online calculator. Also the M.2 drive...I could go with 512 GB...using it mainly for operating system, video editing, and storing important files like documents. The 2.5 SSD for games and general storage. Thanks...I really appreciate any input. Toasted_Oats ------------ PS. I went to PC Part Picker and had this "Compatibility Note" (curious if that is a concern or what it means...does that mean if I were to buy three M.2 SSDs, I cannot have three 2.5 SSDs in exchange?) The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled. The motherboard M.2 slot #2 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled. The motherboard M.2 slot #3 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated with a PCIe-based M.2 drive, two SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports are disabled. -----------
  15. I was thinking about upgrading to a 9900k becsude i think my ryzen 7 2700x (4.1 GHz) is bottelnecking my 2080. But i am not really shure if this is the case. Maybe this 1440p shadow of the tomb raider benchmark will help out (higest preset)
  16. I was considering a custom loop, but from what I can tell an AIO should be more than enough for my needs. I have an Intel i9-9900k coming in with an MSI MEG z390 Godlike Gaming Motherboard, that will probably be going into a Corsair Obsidian 750D case. I want to clock the i9 at 5.0 which from what I'm reading shouldn't be a problem. What is the best possible aio I would need? Will a 480 rad work, or will I need to go 360? I don't mind mounting top, side, whichever is possible.

  18. 1. Budget & Location Went from 3000 to 4000 to 9001... I'm not entirely sure, I'm willing to spend 1000-2000 more than current component list prices of list #1 Location: The Netherlands 2. Aim First priority is not gaming, however for some unknown reason I want it to perform well in games as well and there's exactly where issues with hardware choice start to arise. I am planning to start learning software development, work with different programs and find my way into an IT profession by loads of practise and experimentation. One of the first things on my todo list is experimenting with multiple VMs, trying out different OSes and Virtual Networking. Another thing will be malware testing on VMs as well as debugging these programs. So in short I will use the PC to learn software development as well as reverse engineering. I want to be able to create youtube videos and do online streaming, because I want to be of help to others during the process, as well as learn the act of video editing, streaming and social media promotion So for gaming I'm planning to get myself a VR device in the future, likely not until next year. Other than that I will of course try out the new battlefield that came with my 2080 Ti as well as some MMOs like GW2 and WoW. I have this vision of trying out new games than I don't know yet, but I can't say if I'll like it - it's just experimentation I like the idea of i9-9900K being the top class performing CPU in games, but it may be foolish to get it for that reason if I'm not a real gamer and want to use the machine mainly for learning, working and eventual beautiful creations that I place far more value to than gaming, but if the CPU delivers that all then it's probably the best (and also cheapest) solution. . . Forgot to add: I want to overclock the system as for everything there has to be a first time 3. Monitors So for this I chose the 144 Hz Acer Predator XB271HU as listed below. I think I'm planning to buy another one in the future (not sure if same or different) to create a dual-monitor setup. Although 3 monitors seems cool as well but I think I want to set up the system first before investing in these 4. Peripherals Getting Roccat Vulcan 100 AIMO keyboard. I already own a Razer Lancehead Tournament Edition White mouse. The idea of running multiple different softwares of different companies in order to control peripherals as well as RGB lighting (iCue software) does put me off as all these consume system resources and I wonder if there are alternative solutions to them, although they may not consume that much relatively 5. Why are you upgrading? Most of this has been answered at question #2 but aside from that I'm currently stuck with my ancient i7-3630QM ASUS laptop that won't perform any of the tasks Oh and lastly... I wanna build my own PC. I wanna learn it and this is a perfect chance 6. List of Parts So here is the list I created using i9-9900K and below that is the parts I'd replace CPU and MB with should I go for i9-7980XE Most research has been done for i9-9900K and I am/was almost going to go for this, but I still want to leave the option open for 7980XE also the reason why I'm not certain about this processor is because it dates from september 2017 and I found out new models may be coming out in the next 1-2 years. Not entirely sure, but the little info from news articles and forum posts I could find point out to that PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Type Item Price CPU Intel - Core i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor $529.99 @ B&H CPU Cooler Corsair - H150i PRO 47.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler $166.89 @ OutletPC Motherboard Gigabyte - Z390 AORUS MASTER ATX LGA1151 Motherboard $295.40 @ Newegg Memory Corsair - Vengeance RGB Pro 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory $529.99 @ Newegg Storage Samsung - 970 Pro 512 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive $167.99 @ Amazon Storage Samsung - 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive $247.99 @ Amazon Video Card MSI - GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB GAMING X TRIO Video Card $1399.00 @ B&H Case Corsair - Crystal 570X RGB White ATX Mid Tower Case $139.99 @ Newegg Power Supply be quiet! - DARK POWER PRO 11 850 W 80+ Platinum Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply $178.99 @ SuperBiiz Operating System Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit $124.79 @ OutletPC Case Fan Corsair - LL120 RGB LED 43.25 CFM 120mm Fan $31.17 @ Newegg Case Fan Corsair - LL120RGB LED (Three Fans With Lighting Node PRO) 43.25 CFM 120mm Fans $109.43 @ Newegg Case Fan Corsair - LL140 RGB LED 51.5 CFM 140mm Fan $31.17 @ Amazon Case Fan Corsair - LL140 RGB LED 51.5 CFM 140mm Fan $31.17 @ Amazon Monitor Acer - XB271HU bmiprz 27.0" 2560x1440 165 Hz Monitor $599.99 @ Newegg Business Other WD 4TB Blue My Passport Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBYFT0040BBL-WESN $118.47 @ Newegg Business Other WD 4TB Red USB 3.0 My Passport Portable External Hard Drive (WDBYFT0040BRD-WESN) $106.99 @ Newegg Business Other CORSAIR RGB LED Lighting PRO Expansion Kit $39.99 @ Newegg Other ROCCAT Vulcan 100 Aimo RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, Silver (ROC-12-411-BN-AM) $149.08 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total (before mail-in rebates) $5048.48 Mail-in rebates -$50.00 Total $4998.48 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-02-06 11:33 EST-0500 7980XE: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Type Item Price CPU Intel - Core i9-7980XE 2.6 GHz 18-Core Processor $1900.00 @ SuperBiiz Motherboard Gigabyte - X299 DESIGNARE EX ATX LGA2066 Motherboard $449.99 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $2349.99 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-02-05 10:39 EST-0500 7. The question is whether or not I should invest in this build and comments are needed to help me determine how much it will satisfy me. Everything is open for changes although I'd prefer to use the parts I already bought last year instead of reselling them or something,, I hope to find some answers! here ?
  19. I am going to build my first computer! (Yay!) I feel confident in my ability (because of watching Linus, of course!), I'm just curious if it would be possible to overclock the 9900k with the Asus ROG Strix B360-i, or would I need a Z370/Z390? it's not a deal breaker, but am just curious. Just trying to get the best performance out of the lowest cost possible. Please don't judge my choice of components, that's not what this thread was for. I just want to triple make sure I have all the parts I need and am wondering about the overclock-ability of the 9900k and b360-i combo.
  20. Hi all, I wanted to share with you the final build of the Cerberus X. In a way after looking at current builds monochromatic, I wanted to do something different e.g. I like Noctua fans. Overall the goal was also a silent build, even though I have a bulletproof overclock of 5ghz, I cant hear the system ramp up. 2nd goal, the smallest build considering the components. However I do not know how to OC ram on Z390 any recommendations or guides? 21. Hi Everyone, It's becoming more apparent that I'll be getting myself the i9-9900K processor and I'm planning to overclock it to as much as it can handle. I'll be getting the Gigabyte Aorus Master motherboard which is said to have 8+8 EPS 12V connectors. I was going for the following PSU: be quiet! Dark Power Pro 11 850W but then I noticed it has only one 8-pin connector and another 4+4 connector, so I concluded I should get a different PSU and this seems like the only good (Tier 1) option I could find: Seasonic Prime Ultra 850W Titanium - Is this indeed the one I should go for?
  22. CPU: 9900k Motherboard: Gigabyte - Z390 AORUS XTREME RAM: 3200mhz - CMK32GX4M2B3200C16 Ok I’m having problems finding ram, I was going with CMK32GX4M2B3200C16 From the QVL but people are saying it is not hitting its rated speed. I was looking at F4-3200C14Q-64GVK on the QVL before but that's 750$ and I only need 32g but it will hit its rated speed presumably. I’m trying to keep it to two sticks to lighten the load on the memory controller. Any ideas, information, or changes would be helpful. Thanks. 24. My current setup: 8700k 1080ti 32GB, 3200 PCIe SSD for boot & programs Sata SSD for working files & games This is fantastic setup for gaming. I use a 1440 ultrawide at a fairly solid 100fps. There are some cpu intensive games out there it can struggle with a bit though. My CAD & rendering work is where it definitely suffers. The GPU is just fine (my cad software prefers GTX), though the cpu needs help. I’m moving the pc into a rack case and changing out the current itx mobo for atx as I need additional pcie slots to add a capture card for work purposes. Since I’m buying a new mobo I want to consider if it’s worth switching platforms entirely. A couple of notes: The capture card is 2.0 X4 so Ryzen and obviously TP would handle this without sacrificing GPU lanes. That said, I’ve seen the X8 vs X16 benchmarks so I’m not really concerned about this. I would really hate to sacrifice what’s currently a great gaming experience, but I’d be happy to trade a small loss for an improvement in work tasks. I will be over clocking So here’s the things I’m considering and my current understanding. Costs include what I would expect to pay out the door after selling current gear and buying required supporting gear: 1920x (~$325) seems like big workstation gain and big gaming loss for something that will also require replacing my current dual channel ram and lower my speed from 3200 to 2666. 1950x (~$500) bigger workstation gain, bigger gaming loss, more $$ 2700x (~$150) decent workstation gain, small gaming loss. Not much $$ after selling my current cpu (used 8700k sells for same as a new 2700x) 9900k (~$350) solid gains all around, more so as workstation. 8700k (~$125) just keep what I’ve got and get a new One note on the 2700x, the third gen R7’s look killer so I could easily upgrade and keep its mobo. The 3850x’s leaked specs show twice the core/thread count and basically the same clock as the 9900k, but for the same price. 16/32 and 4.3 base, 5.1 turbo for under $500 sounds like my dream cpu. Then again if I did go with a 9900k now and it fit the bill, I wouldn’t see a reason to upgrade when those launch. Thanks in advance for any input!
  25. So here we have a build, that is working, but not as expected. Be quite silent base 801 (3x140mm fans) Corsair rm550x Asrock z370 pro4 I9 9900k Be quite shadow rock 2 cpu cooler Ddr4 16gb 2666mhz cl15 kingston hyperx Evga gtx1070 sc Ssd: samsung evo 860 500gb, toshiba tr150 480 gb Wifi card on pcie Rme hdsp 9652 on legacy pci Initially i had i7 8700k in this setup, all working perfect. Swapped for i9 9900k with latest bios 3.30. Aaand i got a BSOD every time. Random bsods. Default bios setting doesn't work like it should for i9. Lowering manually processor speed in bios oc menu to max 4.2 ghz on all cores and bclk 100 helps. But i can't get more than this numbers. Wtf? I9 in default turbo should get 4.7ghz on all cores. Performance test also showed cpu performance lower than usual for i9 = 15000+, instead of 21000+ Temperatures of cpu and mb are fine. 30-36 celsius in idle. Cpu in cinebench 80 celsius short peak. First i thought psu is not enough. Pulled out every component. leaving i9, one 8gb ram stick, system ssd alone. Even in oc till 5ghz, 550 watt should be enough, as i9 5ghz is about 250-270 watts. Sooo, loaded bios defaults... No result... Bsod every time till cpu frequency lowering to 4.2ghz. Where should i start? Change motherboard, psu or have i "bad" i9 chip? Asrock z370 pro4 have 10 phases, but those really are (4*2)+2. Now I'm thinking motherboards vrm not getting right voltage for i9? Can it be?
