Hi all, So I've had my XFX Radeon RX480 8GB XXX version (Don't ask why I didn't go for the black edition, at the time past me was like pfft a tenner for 40 more mghz) and i'm enjoying it, I used to have a Zotac GTX 770 and this has been my first card upgrade. So far everything's all good, it runs hotter than I expected (max I've hit is about 75°) but that's probably due to not having something that has been that hot before, it will happily run CS:GO at max settings (minus motion blur because I don't like it) at 1080p with a solid 59-60 fps, Final Fantasy 13 with 8k shadow res and x 16 MSAA at around the same frames, L4D2 boasts no issues, Rocket League doesn't hinder it at all, the entire Dark Souls franchise bears no issues. It's only until you push games to 1440p is where you may notice some issues. Rocket League, L4D, Dark Souls 2 etc. have no issues but when you apply that to CS and FF it starts to range between 30 and top 40's for fps. Which isn't bad but at points you will notice slowness and swapping it back to 1080p you instantly notice the difference. Now you're probably reading this thinking well where's all the top end demanding games, well I don't have any, so *flatulent noise* But anyway, for the price I paid (It was 199 full price, I got it ex.VAT and £60 off since I sold my old GPU) I can't knock it, yeah sure you can go buy a 1080 or a 980 and get better performance but they also cost a shit tonne more, I also like all the Wattman stuff and the general radeon settings, I have a GTX 760 at work and the Nvidia Geforce Experience doesn't feel as useful to me than the Wattman does. I even like minimalist styling of it which I know put many people off. I would highly recommend one to be honest, if you're after a card upgrade but don't want to fork out a small mortgage or if you play most of your games at 1080p and like me you're perfectly satisfied with the games you currently have and none of the latest ones bother you that much then go for it TREAT YO SELF ALTHOUGH If I had the money at the time I probably would've bought a 1070 or a 980, but ever since seeing the design of the RX480 I was hooked on owning one, also £300 to whatever a bloody 1070 costs nowadays is a LOT of money. If you set the minimum fan RPM to anything over 1200-1500 it sounds like someone taped one of them bloody quid shop portable hairdryers into your rig. It looks quite ugly without the backplate (Because companies focus all the looks on the bottom...that part...that you never see.....) Some modern games are not happy with them being crossfired, but due to the thickness of it and its habit of getting rather warm I wouldn't trust them anyway. Thanks for reading, Dan

Hello good people of the community, I have run into a very strange issue today. I was testing the stability of my overclock of the RX480 Nitro+ 8GB version that I have, using Unigine Valley. Well after the benchmark, when it showed FPS numbers and system specs, I noticed it says that the card only has 4GB of memory. See for yourselves in the attachment. I found some similar issue where it was said that Windows shows all graphics cards with more than 4GB of memory as only 4GB, which as far as I know is true, but GPU-Z shows it has 8GB, the AMD settings software shows it has 8GB, only Unigine Valley reported a different value. I noticed a couple days earlier there was someone else with the same issue, don't know how that went down so I'm creating my own thread. Does anyone else with the RX480 have this issue? Is it real? Should I return the card? Or is the benchmark getting the system info from Windows? Unigine_Valley_Benchmark_1.0_20160826_2343.html

So I am having some strange issues after installing my RX 480 Nitro 8GB OC. After I leave my PC idle for a while windows 10 automatically shuts off the monitors, which is fine. However when I try to wake them up by pressing keys on the keyboard or clicking the mouse, nothing happens. The only thing I can do is reset my pc with the reset button/hold down the power button and shut it off. Both of my monitors ( 2x Acer R240HY bidx ) are connected with HDMI and work fine with my other PCs and work fine with this PC as long as I don't let windows turn them off. I have tried reinstalling the display drivers multiple times, reverting to the 16.8.1 crimson drivers and clearing my CMOS with no success. There has also been another less annoying and more random issue, where on startup, my second monitor loses signal at the windows log in screen. I can fix this by, after logging in, opening up the screen resolution tab in control panel and switching, first to "show desktop only 1" and then switching back to "extend these displays". Immediately the second monitor gets a signal and it functions as usual. I am wondering if these problems are related since both deal with the monitors not receiving a signal. I have done some research and have not been able to find any solutions to my particular problem. I don't think my card is defective since it runs completely normally except for in these two situations and I am starting to wonder if this is an issue with AMD's drivers. Here are my system specs: CPU: i7 5960x RAM: 2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 GPU: Sapphire RX 480 Nitro 8GB OC Motherboard: MSI X99A SLI Krait Edition Powersupply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GS SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB Monitors: 2x Acer R240HY bidx Thanks in advance for your help

I am going to be buying a PC for gaming with an i5-6600 and probably a RX480 8GB variant. Should I go with 8GB DDR4 or 16GB DDR4? I don´t do any video editing or something like that, I just want to play games while having some tabs open in the background.

memory Which type of ram should I get?
TechnoBeaver posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
After having problems with the ram I'm using currently, I decided to send it back and purchase some new ram that'll work better with my current system. I went on Crucial and they confirmed that these 3 different kits would be compatible with my system. However, I don't know which one to get. I use my computer mainly for video editing and gaming, and also recording gameplay. Which one would work best for my situation? Thanks -
Ok, so i am gonna upgrade my desktop soon by adding more ram (currently at 4gb, upgrading to 8gb) but i'm facing a problem. The ram i have in my pc is this Corsair cmz8gx3m2a1600c9r. So i went looking online for another stick of the same ram but i found they only sell in pairs. i'm not gonna pay an £35 for 2 sticks of ram while i'm only in need of 1 more (my mobo only has 2 slots for ram) So i went digging deeper, and i found this Corsair cmz4gx3m1a1600c9. I am wondering if i can use that one on my pc as it has the same freq. voltage and latency. Will i run into any problems? any blue screen of death? any bootloops? My mobo is a gigabyte h81m-s2h. Thanks!

So I've been looking at laptops for a while now and I've come across a great deal over at PC Specialist, for €600, which is my budget for a laptop. I have come up with two possible configurations, -> i7-6500u, 8GB RAM, 240GB Kingston UV SSD (€600) -> i5-6200u, 16GB RAM, 256GB Sandisk x400 M.2 SSD (€586) Both setups have the same unibody, with a 14" 1080p IPS panel. (I've excluded Windows as I have a copy, if you're wondering why they're so cheap) I plan to do an open engineering course next year involving mechanical, chemical, civil among others. My question is, regarding the programmes I will be using, AutoCAD, Solidworks etc. which set up would be better? I could, after some time, upgrade the i7 model to 16Gb RAM, but the storage on the i5 model would be noticeably faster. I know waiting for the back to school August sales would be preferable, but with the current state of the pound sterling, which makes these laptops cheaper for me, and the current Brexit fiasco, I'm hesitant to wait until then. If you've any questions please ask, I'd like to find a solution as quickly as possible, Thanks.

Ok so my question is if you have a motherboard that supports 2 CPUs on a 32 bit operating system OR each CPU only being capable of 32 bit operation, can the fact there is two of them mean that you can have 8GB of ram? My logic would be it's possible because they're two separate CPUs each with 4gb of ram? I am in no way talking about being able to have 64bit operation I'm talking about if you can double the amount of RAM you can use by having two sort of independant CPUs.

Hey guys! I'd like to upgrade my PC from 8GB DDR3 (Adata XPG Gaming V2.0 AX3U1600W4G9(2x4GB)) RAM to 16GB, I have the Gigabyte Z97P-D3 mobo which has 4 RAM slots and supports up to 32GB 1600Mhz RAM. What would be the best way to upgrade: -Buy a whole new 16GB kit (4x4GB costs around €65) and sell current RAM kit for around €25. OR: -Buy Kingston HyperX Fury red HX316C10FRK2/8 (2x4GB) which costs €35.

Hey guys, quick question. I have an 8 gig gtx 980 in my Sager notebook. I am a bit confused by what some games and other programs say about my rig. Some games, the most notable one in my mind is GTA 5, say that I have only 4 gigs of VRam. Why does this happen and if in the game settings, I go higher than 4gb of VRam usage (unlikely, I know. But just curious) will I see any negative effects? My rig specs: Sager NP 9870-s CPU: 6700k @ 4.4ghz GPU: GTX 980 8gb non overclocked (yet) RAM: 32 Gb dual channel ddr4 Storage: All 850 evo's 2 250gb m.2 in raid 0 and 2 1tb in raid 0. Thanks for the support folks.

My PC actually had 2 GB of A-Data RAM (1333 MHz) on a Gigabyte H61M-S Motherboard which according to Their website supports upto 1333Mhz RAM. Before I Bought the HyperX I Checked weather a 1866MHz Memory is supported by the motherboard, and found out that the Memory will underclock to 1333MHz. It worked Fine for 3 Months until one day something happened. After Pressing the power button the Fans began to spin and nothing happens. No lights at Ethernet port nor The keyboard Lights. Sometimes it starts after 15 Minutes Sometimes it won't and I can hear clicking sound from the HDD. But one day I removed the HyperX Fury and everything runs fine and just as I install the HyperX the problems comes back. so I tried manually setting the Frequency of the RAM in the BIOS and set it to 1333MHz but it won't work The problem still exists.. Please Help \\ S Y S T E M S P E C I F I C A T I O N S // CPU : Intel Pentium G2030 (3GHz) Motherboard : Gigabyte H61M-S (rev 1.0) RAM : 2 GB A-Data 1333 MHz & 8 GB Kingston HyperX Fury 1866 MHz GPU : Asus Nvidia Geforce GT610 2GB DDR3

Basically i have 4 sticks of RAM thats 800MHz DDR2 some is slower timings and some is faster, im currently using the faster because, well its better duh, anyway what i have installed right now is 2x2GB of 800MHz (cant remmember clocks) RAM from corsair for a total of 4GB which is enough for what im doing on that computer, which is currently figuring out why CS:GO dosent like me basically but in the future it will also be used as a server once i just get everything sorted with CS:GO, but it annoys me to just have 4GB of perfectly fine 800MHz RAM just laying around so i was wondering if i should slow down the timmings on the RAM im currently using to see if they will work together, they currently dont through all my tries this far putting them in diffirent slots and stuff but it would be nice to have 8GB of ram becuase its slightly better and would make for a slightly better PC. TL;DR i have 4GB of 800MHz DDR2 laying around, should i slow down the clocks of my current RAM with same frequency but faster clocks and try to use all sticks too for 8GB of total system memory or is it not worth the effort or should i try to speed up the clocks of the slower ram to make them work? thanks for any replies and any help or suggestions because i know almost nothing about RAM timings

hello guys, i wanted to buy A new Hyper x ram 8gb 2x4, i saw that Hyperx Savage and hyper x predator has the same price and same CL and mhz i wanted to know which one is better https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-1866MHz-Non-ECC-HX318C9SRK2-16/dp/B00N9PVXJK/ref=sr_1_22?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1466171963&sr=1-22&keywords=ram ddr3 cl9&tag=viglink20237-20 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104485&cm_re=hyperx_predator-_-20-104-485-_-Product&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-VigLink2-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3821802&SID=ipk7lhh5c5000a1700053

as I mentioned in my "hi" comment in the off topic section I posted my laptop spec, which is this : http://valid.x86.fr/d521cj I noticed my 980m has 8gb of vram. Having watched linus's videos on vram I have to ask why does the 980m have 8gb of vram. It just doesn't seem to make sense to me. My desktop 980 only has 4gb and that is more powerful and is driving 4K games so what could possibly be a logical explanation for this? Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining my laptop has 8gb of vram instead of 4. It just got me thinking.

Hey guys, i really should know this, having built 3 PCs in the past, but I wanted to make double sure before I dropped some money on it... If I already have a 2x4GB kit of Corsair Vengeance DDR3 CL9 RAM, Can I upgrade with a 2x8GB kit of Corsair Vengeance Low Profile DDR3 CL9? It's a stupid question and theyre both 1600MHz CL9 DDR3, but I just needed a second opinion :L Thanks, Rhys. Edit: I'm upgrading to 24GB, using all 4 slots in a 4-8-4-8 configuration, not just swapping them out.

I just had a hypothetical question. I currently own a laptop with one 4Gb stick installed. I am wondering if it makes any sense to get an 8Gb stick for the second slot. Would it work? I'm just wondering, more curious than anything else. I think that 8Gb is probably enough total for this machine, but I figured I might learn something about how this works. If I'm correct, as long as the voltage is the same, it should be able to operate in single channel mode, which shouldn't have too much of an impact. Thanks in advance.

Hello, Im going to build a new PC and I am going to take some parts from my old PC, Graphics card, HHD and SSD and the RAM. And the question is that will the ram work with a 2x4 gb kit the kit is 1600 mhz and my old RAM is 1x8 gb 1333 mhz. Will it work as a 16gb system? Im ok that my 2x4 gb kit will run at 1333 mhz if needed. This guy says that is will work as 8gb of usable ram. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1945351/4gb-ram-sticks-8gb-stick-time.html Thank you! New CPU i7 4790k Motherboard gigabyte ga-z97x-gaming 3 Ram Crucial BallistixSport 2x4GB 1600MHz Old Ram 8gb 1333 MHz. And for the last thing, which slot should I put 8gb and 2x4 gb in? First or Second?

Hi guys I'm looking for 8GB of RAM and my question is if it's better to buy two 4GB RAM-sticks or one 8GB RAM-stick? Both would be clocked at 1866mhz. Thanks for your help! Edit: Because I remember a while a go you would get up to 30% higher speeds with 2x4GB.

Hi, My name's Alphaem. No, it's not Alpheem-- it's Alphaem. If you want to pronounce it right, try it like this: Alphum. But, that's not what I'm here for. I'm here to talk about building my own PC. It's always been a dream of mine to be able to build my own PC, and now, I want to do it. So, I need suggestions. I need what parts and components would be awesome for a good, low budget gaming PC. I would prefer an AMD 3.0GHz or above build with 8GB of RAM, with a 2GB graphics card of sorts. Basically, I wanna be able to play Fallout 4. Also, if possible, I would love to have it between $500 and $600 dollars. Oh, and thanks for looking at this entry and MAYBE even giving me some suggestions. -Alphaem

How long(years) will it be until we get a GPU with a minimum of 40% but probably 60% better than GTX 970 and with 6 to 8GBs of VRAM at the price of a 390/970? How long do I have to wait? (yes the Poll is wrong I know!)

Hey guys, So I've been looking into adding an additional 8gb of RAM to my system since I like to run games with a lot of stuff in the background and games like GTAV eat up a fair amount anyways. And with new titles coming out recommending >8GB it would just be nice to have some extra. I currently have this set in my system (G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 2x4GB @ 2400) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231666 and it's great, but it's 49.99 USD on Newegg, and I'd like to save if possible. I found another set of ram (also by G.Skill, but it just seems to be an older series) but I'm not 100% sure if it's compatible. I used the comparison tables on Newegg : ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007611&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&CompareItemList=147|20-231-665^20-231-665%2C20-231-666^20-231-666 ) and they have the same timings, latency and voltage. But I'm a new PC builder and I have no idea if they will be incompatible or why the Ares is $34 and the RipjawsX (what I currently have) is $49. Will it be fine if I get the Ares one? Or should I spend the extra ~$15 to get the same set that I already own and not risk incompatibility? Any feedback or help is very appreciated. Many thanks, GH4

Hi everyone, I currently have 8GB DDR3 memory installed in dual channel. I'm planning on upgrading it to 16GB in the near future, however I'm not sure if I should buy another two of the same exact sticks and use them in quad channel, or just buy two new 8GB sticks and use them in dual channel. Will performance be an issue here if I were to go quad channel? Any advice I can get would be much appreciated!

Hey guys, I've been thinking of some incremental upgrades I could get for my PC when I purchase my CPU cooler (since I've been using the stock one that came with my 4690k for a little bit and I wanted to change that to something that both matches by build and does a better job, most likely getting the Cryorig H5) and RAM was something that came to mind. Would it make any sense to get a 16GB kit (2x8GB) to put in my PC in addition to the 8GB (2x4GB) that's already in my system? Or will that be a stupid think to do and I should opt for just another 8GB kit. I know RAM compatibility issues are rare if you get ones with the same speed, voltage, latency, etc. but to be safe I would get the same kit from the same manufacture, just in the different capacity (if I were to get the 16GB kit). Something to note as to why I want more RAM is just because I know 8GB is OK for current games and regular tasks, but I want to get into doing some light live-streaming and since newer games will use more RAM it will be a good thing to have. Any feedback is appreciated. Many thanks, GH4

I got some money ahead and after much research I found that I can afford this combo: i5 4460 3,20GHz Radeon R9 290 4GB 8GB 1333 RAM I like it because I have put more emphasis on gaming. Do you like this combination? Will it perform amazing in games for the years to come? My resolution is a 1366x768 on a LED TV 29".
