I'm new to pc building (this is my first build) and need some suggestions for overclocking. My system specs include: evga g3 1000w psu, asus maximus x hero mobo, intel core i7-8086k cpu, dark rock 4 air cooler with 135mm fan (MX4 thermal compound), 16gb corsair lpx 3000 MHz ddr4, samsung 860 evo 500gb ssd, wd black 1tb hdd, evga gtx 1070 sc black edition GPU, 3 corsair sp120 intake fans, 1 corsair sp120 exhaust, and one corsair ml120 pro exhaust mounted on top. The build is in a corsair obsidian 500d. This pc will be used to train neural nets using tensorflow; I will upgrade the GPU to a Titan V in a year or so. I followed der8auer's 8700k overclock guide on youtube and obtained a 5GHz overclock on all cores with a vcore of 1.32 and a cinebench muilticore score of 1615 peaking at 75c. I ran prime95 but the temps shot up past 80c running 6 threads and cancelled the test. I'm afraid that, while the dark rock 4 is quite a beefy cooler, I don't have the cooling capability to run a 5GHz overclock 24/7 and under full load when running tensorflow. I currently have a 4.8GHz overclock on all cores with an AVX of -3 and vcore of 1.27 that runs cinebench at 68c and a multithread score of 1550. Adaptive voltage is on as I am using the Windows 10 balanced power mode. At the current overclock it idles at 31-34c with the cpu fan at 50%. Is there a way to safely run a 5GHz overclock at a vcore of less than 1.33 without delidding or changing my cooler. Are these values normal for the 8086k? What bios setting do you recommend? How low of a vcore would you expect for 4.8 GHz on an 8086k?

Hey LMG community! Soooo listen, I entered Intel's 8086k giveaway sweepstakes during computex and it seems I won! However, to run the processor I'll very obviously need to upgrade from my z68/DDR3 era stuff. I am NOT an experienced overclocker and did not *purchase* the CPU (inb4 "U shud hav gotten a cheeeeper 1 dumdum) SO here's my question: will the 8086k still work/perform in a CHEAPER motherboard, ie an H370/B360/H310 chipset? I realize these chipsets DO NOT support overclocking, I am trying to get up and running for the lowest price possible and can save money with these cheaper boards IF they'd work. Pls, keep grouchy comments to yourself. TL;DR poor person won 8086k will it work in a h370/b360/h310 mobo?

I know my nvme2 / storage is low but i usually have my OS and 5 games I actually play... really only considering 1 more 1 tb SSD (for the wifes pictures and files) 3. For streaming, i want a blue yeti mic and boom arm to start, and a 2nd display i can tilt sideways to read twitch chat) any reccomemdations? 4. Does anyone currently use this graphics card and play WoW on a 2k ultrawide? That could give me performance results? 5. EVGA Warranty voided if i use grizzly thermal paste on my GPU? and if not.. is it worth it? (Wether i OC or not heat kills hardware.. so the cooler the better 20 dollar investment on my 800 to make it last longer seems worth it to me?) any advice... criticism or pro tips would help. 1st Sister and niece in the background of first picture... monitor is bigger than her lol 2nd pic is of everything including temporary graphics card only missing cpu which comes wednesday from silicon lottery 3rd is everything out of the box except the internal cpu parts... just to give the masses an idea

Hello all, if you look up my first thread it shows my pc specs (on a phone so i cant link it) ((phone forum noob/warrior)) but my cpu is a OC 8086k, until the 2080s come out ill be using my little brothers old 7970 radeon xfx ghost 3gb edition graphics card on my asus p34q ultrawide monitor... 1st question with shadows off and a few tweaks ( but still trying to stay ultra) will it run decent FPS? (60 ish) not Dalaran or 25 mans.. but dungeons and BGs open world Should i go the best buy 14 day return policy on a 1070 then return it on day 14 and have some1 else buy 1 for 14 days return it etc until Asus flagship 2080 comes out and buy it in a month?

First I'd like to mention that this is both an upgrade to myself and I'm passing down parts of my old build to my S.O. When you view the parts lists, I will NOT be using the Q300L Case, PSU, nor storage. That said, the rest of the parts are either being considered/open to change. I am aiming around the $1000-1100 mark and would like the 2700x as a "baseline" since that is what I started to look at initially and have specifically chosen the parts in the list already. My use case that I'll be using the PC for is mainly gaming, however I do run Flowsimulations using either Ansys or StarCCM, and occasionally want to stream my games to Twitch. With a difference in core count being in question, what team should I choose, AMD 2700x or Intel 8086k. I game at 1080p with a GTX 1070 MSI Gaming X and my monitor is 144Hz however set to 120Hz since I can usually pull that off. Here is the possible Intel build, and here is a possible AMD build. Is the 8086k worth it should I cut some costs and choose a 8700k? Any feedback and opinions is greatly appreciated. Builds have been updated and I've come to the conclusion to wait for blackfriday and see where AMD stands with the 7nm CPUs.

My CPU from the 8086k giveaway has arrived early! The website said orders would come around October 15th, so I'm totally stoked by this turn of events. I am soon going to pull the trigger on the purchase and replace my 4790k, so I want to know peoples' thoughts about my build. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/h3Tfmq I picked the z390-F because of the big VRM cooling solution, the trident Z RGB because it is undeniably cool, and the 212 EVO I already use will be replaced at some point by a 280 rad, if I feel stock performance is slowing me down. I will also replace my current power supply with the one listed in this build, but it is also 650W, so no trouble there. Everything else on the list is already part of the PC. Addendum: I have some meme-ish storage hooked up. I use an E-SATA/USB 3.0 expansion card for an external 2tb HDD, and I have a meme 80GB sata1 hard drive (yes, 1.5Gb/s) from an old cheese grater Mac. Don't bother trying to convince me not to use them.

Won an 8086k from the Intel Sweepstakes. Decided to heavily mod my DeepCool Earlkase. Really loving this sweet Optimus waterblock. My goal for this case was to have the loop serviceable by only removing the front panel. The Earlkase uniquely provides a removable mesh that allows access to the reservoir. I had a wild idea to "integrate" the loop into the case using the front vertical partition, from there it spiraled out of control. I wanted to also have the handle for the drain fitting and a drain port passing through the front of the case, simply remove the front panel, remove drain block-off plug, screw in a hose and turn the handle to drain. Well, AMD is really sending a strong message here with their trade-in deal. According to this post on their website, the first (USA) 40 winners of the Intel 8086K special edition CPU have an opportunity to trade it in for a i.e., AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X. https://www.amd.com/en/campaigns/threadripper-exchange What is AMD going to do with the traded-in CPUs? A while back there has been talks about Intel releasing a anniversary CPU called the Core i7 8086K. Information from the web has confirmed Intel Core i7 8086K is indeed real and can be pre-ordered. Intel Core i7 8086K is to celebrate their 8086 processor which came out 40 years ago. Intel 8086 ran at a clock speed of 5 to 10MHz. I just updated my ROG Maximus X Hero motherboard to the latest BIOS (Version 2203). Previously, I could run my 8086K @ 5GHz with 1.28V (Cooling: NZXT Kraken X62 & RAM: G.SKILL F4-3600C17D-16GTZR 16GB 2x8GB TRIDENT Z RGB 3600MHZ) and would get 80-90C temps under Prime95 torture testing, which I was fine with as it's extreme heat production isn't realistic for normal use, plus I'm delidding soon, so hoping for 15-20C drop after that. Now, however, after installing the BIOS update, and using the same overclocking settings, the temps hit 100C+ under Prime95 torture testing and I have to end the test in well under a minute due to the temps. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know if there is any way to reduce the temps without reducing the OC? I know I'll be delidding and it'll probably solve the issue, but at the same time, I want my 10-15C back!
