I've seen so many mixed reviews online, some saying this is the perfect psu for there build, while others saying it exploded and fried there whole computer. I mean, the title really says everything. I know there are some EVGA PSU’s that even Linus has used without 80+ ratings. (aka https://pcpartpicker.com/product/86M323/evga-power-supply-100n10400l1) Some people don’t trust a PSU if it doesn’t have an 80+ rating or ketchup and mustard cables, but I am here for a PC that can play some games, not fancy panty PC. So, should I trust one? -
Hi everyone I am considering buying the PSU linked below for about $60 second-hand. Super Flower SF-550F14MP(WH) Leadex 550W 80 Plus Platinum Certified Fully Modular White Desktop Power Supply - Wootware It is in in good condition (from the pictures at least, original packaging and full set of cables), and has been used for 2 years. Thats all I know about it. Considering I am looking at going with the following specs CPU: RYZEN 5 5600X / RYZEN 9 3900X/3900 (if the price is right) / RYZEN 7 4750G (Only if I can't find a GPU) GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2060 / GTX 1660 Ti (have to go 2nd hand on any of these) Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M Auros Pro RAM: 16Gb 3600Mhz (2x8Gb) OR 32Gb 3200Mhz (4x8Gb) (Leaning towards the 32Gb kit) Storage: 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD So will this second-hand PSU work long term if I get one of those GPUs, I am even considering going for the 4750G and getting a GPU later when prices become normal. My question is what sort of degradation could I be looking at over time, considering it was 550W from new, what sort of continuous wattage (stable) should I be able to get out of it now? I don't want a shortage of Watts in at least 2-3 years, considering its 2 years old and 80+ Platinum rated. Thanks in advance

The specs of the PC I am building are here below. I am wondering if the Power Supply I was able to pick up is going to be efficient enough for my computer to run properly or if I should return it to Newegg and wait for bigger wattages to come down in price because...all of the power supplies of higher wattages are a bit above my price range with the ones that ARE...are a lil bit iffy right now. The Silverstone SST-SX800-LTI is a fully modular 800W SFX PSU that is rated at an efficiency rating of 80+ Titanium! Crazy and seems stupid, but I do actually have a use for this. I want to make a custom mATX case capable of running 2 GPUs in SLI/Crossfire that really puts the "micro" in the name. The case is designed to be 1 foot tall, 1 foot deep, and 140mm thick. To accomplish this, as you can imagine, I need a small PSU. That's where this PSU comes in. Given such a low demand the only seller I was able to find is eBay. I have several questions and concerns regarding this power supply. One of the questions I have is, well, is it any good? the SX 700W was rated a Tier 4 on the PSU Tier List but given this is a 800W and a Titanium it might be higher rated. Another question I have, what kind of power draw does two of the most power hungry GPUs in SLI/Crossfire draw? Should I stick with an 800W or would dropping down to a 750W or even 700W be fine? Lastly, overall, what SFX PSU should I buy, Im interested in one rated well and, more importantly, one that can supply power demands of pretty much anything I can throw at it.

I'm trying to find the best power supply to upgrade my HTPC built in a Fractal Node 304. Given the tiny case, an overclocked devil's canyon, and a 780ti, I'm trying to find something that's: Non-Modular because the extra length of modular cable connectors will get in the way of my 780ti. Also, a non-modular design usually routes the cables out of the bottom right corner, the ideal location for Node 304. 550W~650W based on a calculated load of just under 500W. 80 Plus Gold or as high of an efficiency rating as possible in hopes that it runs cooler and quieter for longer. (I know this isn't necessarily true) Regular ATX but as physically small as possible. 0 RPM fan mode would be a huge plus to reduce dust and noise. I love my EVGA 750 G2 in my main rig, but the modular design of its smaller brother 550 G2 (and G3) makes them unsuitable.... In the end I just want something that's compatible with my setup and is of very high quality. Budget isn't an issue, for the most part.

Doing a system build and am completely out to lunch with PSUs. Buying a 1600x (because it's on sale and the 1600 isn't and I save more than enough money to buy a cooler better than the stock). and also looking between the 1050ti and the 1060 6GB. Looking to OC both the CPU and the graphics card. I watched a few example video's on how much extra a component requires when over clocking, and am wondering if my choice is ok. Or if I should look elsewhere before purchasing. Looking at a 750 watt 80+ gold from Corsair. Not enough, ok or bad choice? PS idc about the RGB since the case has no window haha!

Hello LTT members. I have a pc with these specs I5 4460 8gb ram Gigabyte RX470 G1 8Gb 240 SSD + 1Tb HDD And a crappy psu. But I want to change it for a good one . so Ive been looking and I found this Zalman ZM600-TX which is 80+ certified and for a good price . But Im not sure if it gonna be that or should I look for something else also I will appreciate your recommendations Thanks im advance

Hi, I found the Cooler Master MWE 750 Gold Full modular for about $86 USD last week and made a hasty purchase, as it sounded really good with its 80+ Gold rating and was full modular. However, I didn't look it up prior to my purchase and now I am confused if I should get it replaced with a Corsair RM750x or is it a good purchase. The reasons I looked up the RM750X in the first place was that it was listed in pretty much on all the Best PSU articles that I looked up and on the other hand, I didn't really find any good reviews of the CM MWE 750 that I bought. I know the CM MWE 750 is relatively new but still. I currently have: Asus Maximus VIII 6600k @ 4.8ghz Zotac GTX1060 amp 6gigs 2 x Samsumg 500 gig ssds WD 3T Purple Enermax 650 80+ Bronze PSU I am Planing to upgrade to: Asus Maximus xi Hero 8700k May be GTX 2070 Thanks in advance.

As long as there's a 80+ certification, the power supply, in most cases (pun totally intended) will not blow up right? Some people say that below an 80+ bronze (including 80+) will more than likely cause you issues, so I just wanted to make this clear.

I am using a Rosewill photon or something in my system, an 80+ bronze non modular thing I got from a friend a while ago. My brother uses some 80+ bronze rosewill thing a friend of mine donated after I cheaped out and got a $20 apevia unit from amazon (learned the hard way not to skimp on a PSU.) We've been using these units for a while and I was wondering what kind of upgrades would be ideal, since power supplies don't last forever. I really like the idea of the EVGA supernova G3 650W. The modular cables will make my messy case a lot easier. My brother uses an i5 and a gtx 970, so what should he consider? He isn't a hardcore gamer, so an i5 and a mid end GPU is his future in gaming. I am getting an 8086k, so I know 650W is where I should be at.

Hi all. So I've recently been browsing 80+ gold PSUs out of boredom and I happened to notice there are just as many 80+ golds as there are bronzes, with the rare silver now and then. This made me question if there's any sort of electricity savings from these tiers. Is there any sort of major electricity bill savings from going for a bronze model vs gold? I use my PC for 4-8 hours a day and I own an 80+ bronze PSU, would I benefit in terms of power usage from converting to a gold-rated PSU? I don't think it's likely I'll swap PSUs but if I do, it'll be a 550W, 80+ gold, fully-modular PSU such as the Corsair RM550X, but I'm still happy with my 450W grey-label CX model, so again, unlikely.

Guys, I gotta be honest I'm feeling pretty dejected right now. Around this time last year, I built my first system with my own money. It was something I always wanted to do, an emotion I'm sure most of you share with me. This is my exact system specification: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/pZ7nyX After a while of using the Wraith Spire cooler, I upgraded my cooling solution to the Cooler Master MasterLiquid 240. The fans that the cooler comes with were absolute garbage, they made far too much noise from even from 1% fan speed all they way up. So I replaced them with Arctic F12s. Not the best upgrade, but they were super cheap so whatever. Now for a while after I changed the fans, I had been acutely aware of my system still being quite noisy, in spite the replaced radiator fans! For the longest time (nearly a year I'll remind you), I had thought that the noise was just the Masterliquid pump being really trash at managing it's speed relative to CPU temps. And so I fiddled around with fan curves and plugging fans into the motherboard vs into a controller, I tried different thermal pastes, I even tried some different fans on the radiator. On a whim, I decided to put my ear up to my system just to really confirm that the MasterLiquid pump was the source of this uncomfortable noise. To my shock, the source of the noise was actually the Cooler Master 550w Elite V2 power supply. Unbelievable. I'm sorry for all this anecdote, but I had been incorrectly trying to troubleshoot this issue for a year, and due to my own ignorance, I spent a lot more money than I really needed to. I just needed to vent this somewhere In hindsight, it makes a lot of sense, the Elite V2 isn't even 80+ rated, and its the lowest tier on the PSU tier list on this forum. (go figure) TLDR What I ask of everyone on the forum is some recommendations for a power supply that fits my system AND doesn't sound like a god damn jet engine while at idle. I certainly don't expect a silent PSU, but anything that's quieter than the Elite V2 is an improvement. For a little more context, somewhat miraculously given the weak PSU, I'm running my R7 1700 overclocked, 3.875 GHz @ 1.3375 V. **!!FOR FUTURE REFERENCE!!** DO NOT BUY THE ELITE V2 UNLESS A) You don't plan on overclocking anything B) Your system draw is far below what the Elite V2 can deliver C) You can get the thing for super super cheap, Like $20 or something (even then I still highly recommend you just get something else, at least 80+ rated!) so the g3 is 30$ more expensive .. but is it only for the smaller size and Modularity ? or its better in any other way ?
