hi guys i just wanted to know if i can get a new aio to replace my refurbished h90 liquid cooler in my s340 elite case for better temperatures at 5ghz since i can absolutely can play games no problem but when i try to stress test all cores n threads at 100 percent it reaches 90c and this is with msi kombustor cpu stress test and since i have a warning for when i reach 90c everytime it reaches that i hear the warning beep from my pc and i instantly stop the stress test and with summer comming soon im in the unites states west coast it gets pretty hot my concern is i wanted to stream my games and record soon but idk if it will be a problem if streaming+ gaming will stress my cpu to those temperatures as much as the stress test which is not even aida 64 , i also looked in youtube and found a video of some aios with the 7700k i also do not want to delid and void my warranty for the cpu since this is my first i7 im hoping to keep it alive for a while but mm yeah i know plp say nzxt aios are good for cooling but i couldnt find any videos on it being paired with the 7700k at 5ghz so thats why i came here to ask for advice for myself who does not want to delid my cpu and just want something that cools better than my h90 currently, also air coolers wouldnt bother me either but idk if theres actually any that can keep this cpu cool. thanks in advance

Hey guys I need some advice! I currently have an i5-6500 and have the opportunity to upgrade my cpu at relatively low cost. But was wondering if it is worth spending the extra to get a 7700k instead of a 6700k, I will be overclocking it on a Z170 Pro gaming (as long as the 7700k is able to be overclocked on a Z170 board if not decision made) Specs: Asus Z170 pro gaming 16gb corsair vengeance ddr4 Custom water cooling loop Cheers for you help!

Hey guys, so its been about a week since I did my build and I noticed that while I'm gaming (GTA 5) my CPU temps go up to about 60C with only about 25% utilization which I feel is a bit hot because the cooler I have is a H100i v2 what do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I recently bought a 7700k and just went through the traumatizing event of having it fall about 4-6 inches onto a counter top (it was in its hard plastic packaging although it spilled out and landed on the countertop). Now looking at it, I believe there is a slight chip/flake missing in the bottom left hand corner of the processor. I put it back into the motherboard quickly to see if it would startup and thankfully the CPU memory was able to initialize (although I couldn't try to run the whole system because I end up with post code 53 and my motherboard doesn't want to work with the ram I have). Should I be fine and is the processor still okay or did I just make a $350 keychain? Thanks.

Hi Guys, I just upgraded my setup to an Asus Z270E Strix Gaming and a 7700k in a Corsair H570X. Since I am currently not willing to shell out the money to change my custom loop, the CPU is currently running with a bequiet Dark Rock 3. The CPU I got was pre-tested by the seller for 4,8GHz@1,32V. But here's the problem: I can't get the core frequency to change without touching the baseclock, which I will not do. I've set everything to manual, changed the multiplier (Sync all cores is enabled) and went to save and exit, but only got a powercycle in return. I went for a mild OC of 4,4GHz from 4,2 Base and left the voltage on Auto this time. I was greeted by my Windows login screen and was immediately disappointed when I found out that the OC didn't take. Tested with CPU-Z and AIDA64 stress test. Maybe anyone has an idea on how to troubleshoot this, since my last system was three years old and still managed to have a simpler UI than anything I found. Full system specs: Intel Core i7-7700k @4,2GHz Stock Asus Z270E Strix Gaming Gigabyte Gaming 1080 Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @3466MHz Greetings from a first time poster! NWC P.S.: I'm also having trouble with the autpmatic fan control, I set it to only start the case fans in the temp exceeded 45°C, but they keep turning on for a few seconds all the time while idling at 30°C...

Hey all, I'm looking to build a PC that I will be using for modelling and simulation, as well as be able to game at 1440. I've costed up a system with both the Xeon E3 1230 V5, and the i7 7700k, with the price difference coming up around $370 Australian (this includes the CPU cooler for overclocking). I'm having trouble deciding whether its worth the effort to get an overclockable setup for the extra coin or stick with the cheaper Xeon option. I was looking for peoples opinion on how much performance that the extra 1ish GHz of CPU speed, and therefore performance, is really worth. Thanks.

I am looking for a motherboard that will work with an Intel i7 7700K. Are CPUs backwards compatible with 6000 series compatible motherboards or am I stuck with a thin selection of motherboards compatible specifically with 7000 series CPUs. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hi, I have an i7-7700k and a Cryorig H7 air cooler and am kinda confused as to why my CPU is getting so hot. Using Core Temp 1.5 my cores are under 1 or 2% load and still running at 40 - 45 degrees - even I know that is too hot for that load! When running AIDA 64 FPU it went up to 97% on 3 of my cores, and 93 on the other one. I do not understand why. Everywhere I've seen, people have been getting around 30 - 35 degrees with no load with this same processor and cooler - but mine is at 45? The only thing I could think of is my thermal paste application isn't good - but I took it off today and re-applied it and nothing changed. This was my first time building a PC, so it is likely I could have done the thermal paste wrong. I am using Arctic MX-2 compound, which I thought was a good one - but maybe I am wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as right now I am scared to do much in fear of making my CPU get too hot.

So I received my i7-7700K earlier today, and well, what do you do with K series chips? Overclock the s*** out of em. A while ago i was debating about whether to delid my i7-6700K, which id got to 4.5GHz with 1.340v, running alongside some 32GBs of 3200MHz C16 DDR4. First thing I did was check its stock vCore in the BIOS at 4.2GHz, 1.040v!!! Considering my 6700K was upward of 1.175v for just 4.0GHz i was impressed. Don't think I did too bad... still got a bit more tweaking to go but so far 100% stable at 5.1GHz!

Hey guys, i'm looking for recommendations for air coolers that will help a 7700k get a stable overclock of at least 4.7ghz. I realise that an aio liquid cooler would be a no brainer in this situation but the case that I have doesn't support them do to size constraints. (too big, not too small) Anywho, any recommendations will be considered and be gratefully received I have already shortlisted the noctua nh-d14 but have also heard hushed whispers that a 212 EVO might still do the trick? *Conclusion* After a bunch of research today, i'm going to go with the D15. Seems to be a solid purchase

So I've spent many hours and through fine tuning ive got my i7-7700K stable at 5.2GHz at just 1.400v and a -2 AVX offset. It runs Prime95 v26.6 Small FFTs for hours on end at its full 5.0GHz. Temps about 75c max from that. It also runs Prime95 v28.10 Small FFTs at its 5.0GHz offset setting (AVX offset ftw). Temps about 80c max from that. It runs games fine for hours on end.. It runs both prime95's together at the same time at 5.0ghz, happily, for hours. It runs games and prime95s together, happily, though it feels sluggish (no suprise tho). Yet as soon as i load up chrome alongside prime95 the system freezes. I can push up to 1.425v and still the same freeze then some whea uncorrectable or watchdog timeout.. What is wrong?

Hi guys, my z68 motherboard finally died after months of random hiccups. This means I either buy a used board to replace it, or upgrade to a new socket CPU. Great timing, I know..... I think I've decided on the following in the hope it will extend like the 2500k did for so many years: 7700k Noctua NH-D15 cooler ASUS Maximus IX Hero (exxy, but I want the IO it has) Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16) 3000Mhz Anything I could be missing or overlooking?

I posted about fitting an Evga 1080 ftw hybrid in my Silverstone RVX01 case a while back, but someone offered to buy my current rig so I have the oppurtunity to start over and build my dream machine. Just wondering if you guys think I will have any incompatability problems. I am going for an all out water cooled machine on a budget. I will be using it with my Asus PG278Q monitor. Yes I want the watercooling for cool factor and for low temps. Even if it might be overkill. I plan on replacing all the fans later for quieter fans. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/dalbry91/saved/BJxRBm I should mention I currently have 3 240gb ssds to add to the build. Thanks!

Over the summer I built my first PC featuring a FX-6300 and a RX 460. For the price I paid I was satisfied. But I wanted more. So late 2016 I built another PC featuring a Skylake i5 6500 and a GTX 1060 6GB. Again, I was very satisfied with the performance. But the computer building addiction had already set in. I wanted more. So here we are now. I'm putting the finishing touches on my latest build. A 7700k beast featuring Gigabyte's new Gaming 5 motherboard and an ASUS GTX 1070 tucked in a NZXT S340 Elite. Here's a spec list with a couple of parts I plan to add. Feel free to share your opinions, what you would change if it was yours, etc. Current Specs: NZXT S340 Elite i7 7700k Kraken X42 Gigabyte Z270 Gaming 5 ASUS GTX 1070 8GB Team Elite DDR4 2400 PNY 240GB SSD I plan to get: Kraken X62 to replace the X42 2x8GB G.Skillz TridentZ RGB DDR4 3200 NZXT AER fans and Hue+ Samsung 960 Nvme drive

So before I forget (lose my memory), the facts/assumptions are as follows. 1. Supposing I can find and by the 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-4266MHz Trident . Assume I have this motherboard which has 4 slots so I can get 32GB 4x8GB. Linus discusses the memory on this board at 6:08 . 2. Or buy 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3000Mhz memory. 3. See also http://www.techspot.com/article/1171-ddr4-4000-mhz-performance/page4.html 4. See also http://www.pcworld.com/article/2982965/components/quad-channel-ram-vs-dual-channel-ram-the-shocking-truth-about-their-performance.html 5. the 7700K only supports Dual channel memory. Given this information and that I'm trying to get the best performance possible the following questions arise. 1. 4 DIMMs running in dual channel are slower than 2 DIMMs in dual channel right? 2. Although the OC on the 4266 is higher, it may not perform better than the 3000 due to the channel restriction. 3. If 7700k supported 4 channels, the 4266 would definitely be faster, right? 4. Would I be better off with 4@4266 or 2@3000 on this motherboard. I don't know if this has been tested anywhere, but I find it confounding as to why 7700k is only supporting dual channel as it definitely impacts bandwidth. Thanks

Just wanted to know what temperatures everyone's getting that bought one of the new kabylake chips are. Right now at idle I'm at 45-50 C @ 4.8ghz but when i load cinebench i get to about 65-70 degrees. Is this just a hot chip? The clock is stable and runs fine but this is the first time overclocking a cpu so i don't know if this is normal or not for this generation of chips.

There are 1.2v and 1.35v DDR4 memories for sale... Does any one knows if the DDR4 memory voltage influences on the overclocking capability of a Skylake or Kabylake chip?

Everything was fine for a week. My 7700k was getting somewhat high temps and thought maybe i should re-seat my cooler or re apply thermal paste. After doing it my system wouldn't boot. Solid orange light on my motherboard(Asus Z270-e) but all case fans, led strips and graphics card leds/fan turn on. Tried everything possible and couldn't get a boot. I switched everything out to my older Z97 board and i5-4460 and that is what i'm using now. The manual says its a stand by light idk if that helps at all

Hi, I recently got a 7700k and successfully installed it in my Asus Z170-A motherboard. Windows successfully booted and seems to have installed an older driver as part of the automatic driver installation BS by Windows 10. The driver number is 4532. The official driver for the Intel HD 630 is 4542, and when I try to install it, the installer quits and says that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements. My specs are: i7 7700k 16GB ram GTX 1080(Yes, I know, but I want to use Intel QuickSync for GPU encoding) Windows 10 Any help or advice is appreciated!

Hi everyone. I am new in Toronto, Ontario. I am not sure where to buy computer parts. Should I buy from newegg.ca or amazon.ca or Canadacomputers or any other stores? Which one will give me best value including shipping(I can bring the staffs if I buy from a local store). I am not sure if this forum is the right place to ask this question but I had no other way.

I bought the new kaby lake I7 and installed it on the Z170 asus deluxe where i previously had the I5 6600k. At first i was afraid i bent a pin so i checked again and it seems alright. After i unplugged all my periphals and attached a hdmi cable from my motherboard it still wont boot. ( I removed my VGA aswell) Can anyone help? Edit: Doesn't even show anything on screen.

Hi all I have a 7700k that has been delidded. Temps are much improved, but I have run into an issue which is starting to make me think I am: A) Doing something wrong, or... B) Have the worst 7700k in history. I say that because while she is fine in X264 for hours on end, as soon as I run anything like Intel Burn/P95/Realbench (which according to the wiki, is a 'medium' test, like X264), she crashes. I had to crank up the voltage to around 1.39v for RB to pass even 2m, and even then it was occasionally freezing (i.e. going to crash at some point). Oddly, I have never actually seen a BlueScreen. The system just hangs (it may even recover, if only temporarily) until I am forced to power off and restart. So, possibility 1 is that I have the worst 7700k in history. I'm not too annoyed though, as she's ok at 4.8 in X264 and realistically that is as hard as I'm ever going to push it. Or I am doing something wrong. I have OCed Skylake, Ryzen, and some Haswell/Devil's Canyon chips, so am not a total newbie, but this is stumping me. If you're curious, aside from XMP being enabled at the uncore being at 4.5Ghz, everything is being handled by the board. Everything is on auto, aside from LLC which I have to crank to 'High.' Thanks all, I'm a little out of ideas here!

So currently im rocking an i3 6100 and am in line for a cpu upgrade but i dont know if i should get a 7700k or an r7 1700. I do play lots of games so i would benefit more in that respect from the 7700k BUT i also do lots of content creation and would benefit even more from the 1700's more cores and threads, now i would much prefer to have the 1700 and sacrifice a few frames in my games but since i am already on a skylake chip all i would have to do is buy the 7700k and be done with it. If i bought the 1700 i would also need a motherboard to pair that with so it would roughly be $100 more than 7700k because i either want a cheap x370 or a b350. i am completely torn between this decision
