Hello everyone! My name is Rafael Ferreira and i´m from Brazil Last week my company autorized us to go back to a hybrid workplace and now i will home some days a week, it will be great as i can help at home with my 1 year daughter. I was a really long time mac user, using an 2010 base model Macbook Pro, it lasted from college, 3 different jobs and outlived as my wife work computer until late last year when she bought an 2019 base model 21.5 imac mid last year. I have upgraded it with 16GB of 2666 memory and a 500GB SATA SSD from kingston (the black one with DRAM cache). It was pain and suffering opening the screen but it was really worth it. Now i´m with a 2017 imac 27 inch mid-tier model equipped with an i5-7600k, 24GB of 2666 memory, 2TB Fusion drive (128GB NVMe + 2TB spinning drive) and a 8GB Radeon 580 and i´m really tempted to open it and upgrade everything i can. With that i would need an i7-7700k, a samsung 980pro 1TB ssd (with adapter) and a WD Blue 1TB Sata SSD. But here is the question.. It would make a significant difference in performance? i do mainly web based work and some large database querys locally.Doing it with everything new would cost me arround 400 usd. Other question, with that combo (980pro + wd blue) would be better using the fusion tech or just run everything separated? If you guys have any other suggestions or different aproaches please feel free to comment. Thanks!

Hello guys. I have an issue going on, whenver i am playing AoE4 now I get this massive FPS drop on my computer. we are talking like 7-14FPS. I have turned all my graphic settings down a notch, but it dosent seem to help at all, i also have all the latest drivers installed. When i open task mananger i can see that my CPU is running on 100% while playing, and GPU is at 30 something... But the funny thing is that several of my friends have the same CPU, but they dont have this problem while playing... My specs should not really be an issue. GPU : RTX 3080 CPU : i7 7700k RAM : 12 GB I first tried capping the FPS to 120 down from 144, and then down to 75- But no chance.... Anyone having the same problem ? Thanks

Hello all. My first post here.. My specification: i7 7700k (not overclocked) MSI Z270 SLI PLUS I bought a pair of dual channel RAM 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) 3200MHz. The problem what I have is that I can't get them to 3200MHz. Maxiumum what I get is 3000MHz. Tried manually inputting the timings which are seen by the Motherboard (16-20-20-40). What else can I do? Tried the "Memory Try It!", turned of XMP and went the manual way.. can't get it working. Never POSTs. Thanks in advance!

Good evening, boys and girls. I've never overclocked before, and whem you see my cooling set up you will think I'm a lunatic for not. I just overclocked my CPU from 4.2ghz stock to 5.0ghz at 1.32 volts. I just ran a stress test with Intel Extreme Utility for 30 minutes, and the temperatures cruised at 70 degrees Celsius. Is that even possible? Thats not even 15 degrees over the temperatures when I ran the test at stock! Is it possible my PC is misreporting the temperatures? RELEVENT SPECS CPU: i7 7700k 5ghz, 1.31 volts, delidded, Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal on the inside, Kryonaut on the outside. COOLER: Noctua NH-D15 FANS: 5 bequiet Silent Wings 2 case fans, (4 140mm intakes, 3 front, 1 bottom, and 1 120mm rear exhause) 2 SIlent WIngs 3 fans (used to be attached to a radiator) CASE: bequiet Silent Base 801 with airflow front panel from 802 model As you can see I have a very premium cooling solution, but I did all that to make my computer quiet, as you can see from the BeQuiet case and 6 fans. By the way, the system was completely silent up until I did the stress test. I was successful! But I need more performance now. If this really is how much thermal headroom I have, what is the limit here? SiliconLottery archives say the highest quality chips can push 5.3 ghz at 1.4 volts pls help? I guess my CPU would be dead by now if something was really wrong. Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I just started with overclocking my 7700k. I delided my CPU with LM and got some pretty good results watercooled, or so I think. I can overclock my CPU to 5 GHZ at 1.27V -0 AVX at 70C for daily use. I can reach 5.2 with 1.36V -AVX at around 82C. Are does good values? Have I got one of those "golden" chips Thanks

Hi i have an issue where When i turn on / Restart my pc it runs awesome i run a MaxxMem2 test and my results are 32000mbs Read , 38000mbs Write ,38000mbs Copy and around 52ms of Latency everything runs great! Although After i game for a couple hours or so and go to Test my Read speed on Maxxmem2 will drop to 24000mbs and games will not be as responsive but its always after gaming for a couple hours or so i don't have any other programs open than when i run the test before but it repeatedly drops and i cannot work out why . I have tried leaving it a while before running the test again to see if it was a heat issue but no difference it will stay slow until i restart the pc . It is only the Read speed affected Write, Copy & Latency stay the same . Can anybody help me with this ? My pc specs. Intel I7 7700k , Asus z270p , G.skill 32gb 3600mhz cl17 ram , Corsair 550w psu , Asus Tuf Rtx 3070 , Sabrent Rocket q 1 tb Win 10 pro Also everything is Updated through Windows and Snappy Driver installer my Bios is Fully updated to the latest Version and I have run Testmem5 without any Errors . I only have a picture of the test after restart because i forgot to screenshot before restarting. I appreciate any help thanks

Hello LTT forums! Long time first time here. I currently have an Intel i7-7700k running on a Z270 chipset, and recently acquired an RTX 3080. I only game on the system, but I am seeing a large bottleneck from my CPU gaming at 1440p/144Hz , making my frame rate very unstable (and GPU-Z is only reporting ~60% GPU utilization while gaming). I'm thinking this could either be my CPU or my motherboard power delivery. I also got a new 850W PSU for the system. I see that I have two (technically 3) paths forward: 1) Upgrade CPU+mobo to 3rd gen AMD or 10th/11th Gen Intel 2) Upgrade monitor to 4K (change CPU to GPU bottleneck) 3) do nothin Looking at the gaming benchmarks with a 7700k or AMD equivalent (1700X) and a 3080, I see that any CPU bottleneck disappears when you move to 4K, as almost all games become GPU bottlenecked. Of course, the market for 4K variable refresh rate (VRR) technology isn't very good right now, which would confine me to 4K60 for now. Also not opposed to 1440p (2K) ultrawide The other option is to (basically) finish replacing my entire system by getting a new CPU and mobo, and just keep using my DDR4 RAM. I actually think both options are about the same price (but could be wrong). Here's the wrinkle - I just moved to Europe, so any links will have to be for continental Europe. I'm looking for a discussion on pros/cons of each path. Thanks in advance for your ideas!

So I have a 7700k, 2 x 8 GB @ 2400 and rx480, I've been wanting to upgrade the GPU, until I realized I need more storage and my ram had made me crash for the last time the other day. So I have some GSKILL neo 2 x 16 3600 in the mail and had just installed a Samsung 980 Pro, only to realize I cant even use the 980 to its full potential from me being stuck on PCIE 3.0. So what do I do? Do I upgrade the CPU now? Do I wait until the gen following AM4 comes out and buy new graphics card for the time being? I can wait on the card, the rx480 gets me by well enough until I can find 3070 for like 300$ (used). So my big memory upgrade is here but cards are sold out right now. Are any of the new processors really worth it? Is ddr5 going to be a thing to wait for in the near future? I like my cities skylines, thats my cpu bottleneck. My GTA takes forever to load, hopefully the faster ram helps but the idea was that the 980 pro would make it faster but... nope. I'm at a loss for what to do. Just need some feedback, no concrete plans.

I have a 7700k on a Strix Z270H and I'm running 2 x 8Gb @ 2133. (stock speed) + RX 480 if that matters I found an amazing deal on some trident Z neo 2x 16 @ 3800 but dont know if I can even use it with my processor. The MOBO supports all speeds up to 3866 so I should be good to get that fast stuff right? if not, a slight downclock? How much of an improvement should i expect? for reference I run ~80 FPS on GTA V 1440p high settings i believe. It could be high but i probs lowered the FPS killers. Dirt 5 is meh FPS wise but i think I blame my gpu for that. cities skylines runs smoothish. Its not a bad system but has its moments of weakness I just want to know if the speed increase is a boost that's worth the price, because I could save half by buying an identical kit of 2x8 @2133. So will my i7 7700k be fine running that high 3800 memory well? if not, im stuck with buying a lame identical kit.

So my computer is running really hot not only in bios but even hotter when totally idle. In bios my computer is at a flat 50c and idle can be anywhere between 60 to 80c. When gaming it passes 100 regularly. I've seen these processors work wonders and I have heard that these processors specifically used really cheap thermal compound behind the heat spreader giving this processor some pretty warm temps. In terms of troubleshooting I've tried 3 different coolers including 2 different Corsair water coolers and a Thermaltake heatsink all installed with new and 2 different types of thermal paste. I've built around 15 new computers before and never had any issues like this with the processor over heating(meaning I've checked to insure the coolers are properly attached and can confirm that the cooler is not the issue with my experience). Finally I've reset to default several times and even tryed the eco mode on my motherboard in it's bios to see if the lower voltage would help it with no change. I feel like I've tried everything with this processor and believe that I got especially unlucky with this processor(I bought it new btw) and my only option left is to either delid it or replace it. I just want to know if i missed anything or if there may be other causes like a bad motherboard causing it. Thoughts?

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I will try to present my problem as good as I can. My Specs: Intel i7 7700k @4,6/4,8 Ghz // 1,25/1,3V NZXT Kraken X72 Push/Pull 32Gb G.Skill RipJaws V @ 3200Mhz // 1,353V MSI Geforce Gtx 1060 Gaming X 6Gb Asus ROG Strix Z270E Gaming 500Gb SanDisk Extreme Pro 500Gb Samsung 850 Evo 256Gb Samsung 850 Evo 4Tb Seagate Barracuda 650 Watt be quiet! Dark Power Pro 11 Creative Soundblaster Z Corsair Crystal 570X Fans: 1x Corsair LL120 @ the back of the case 2x Corsair LL120 @ the top of the case 3x Corsair LL120 @ the front of the case, pushing air into the radiator 3x NZXT Aer P120 behind the radiator, pulling air out of the radiator The air is getting pulled from the front, through the radiator and the top and is getting exhausted out of the back. So my main problem is about thermals and how they interact with my fan speed. I can only run aida64 or prime95 @4,2Ghz all the time without a boost clock if I want the temps to stay lower than 80°C or if I want prime95 to work at all. I wanted to overclock my i7 to at least 4,8Ghz, but I'm getting temps of 100°C max on all cores after running aida64 for a few minutes. I can't even use prime95 because it always gives out that a Fatal Error has occured where a 0,4 was expected, but a 0,5 or someting came out. I just don't understand why. I tried paying around with the CPU voltage settings, but it didn't change anything. After I saw this high temps I decided to reduce the clockspeed to 4,6 Ghz at 1,25 Volts but the temps were still above 90°C max at all cores. A small improvent, but not enough. There's actually a pretty big difference between the temps shown by NZXT CAM and HWMonitor. I use both at the same time and the difference is more than 10°C sometimes. Could it be some sort of sensor problem? Now the strangest thing: It almost doesnt't matter at all at which fan speeds I run my system. When I stress tested my CPU with Aida64 at around 40% fan speed and at 100% fan speed, the results were more or less the same. I also ran a Cinebench R20 Benchmark and got a Singecore score of 489 and a Multicore score of 2419 with about 40% fan speed. But when I ran the same test with 100% fan speed both scores were a little bit worse instead of getting better. I don't get it. EDIT: I tried monitoring everything with AiSuite from Asus as well and the highest recorded cpu temps are about 73°C and there are no big spikes recorded as with HWMonitor or Aida64. Now I´m even more confused because the temperature difference between 2 programms is almost 15-20°C. Which is the real temperature now??? I´m just confused.

I built a Plex server a couple years ago from my old gaming PC's internals (only one x16 slot) and I need to add a second HBA for another 16 drives, but all the MBs I'm finding with 2 x16 slots will only operate in x8/x4 mode when both are populated (each HBA needs 8 lanes). Someone at r/datahoarder did direct me to a workstation board that will work, the Supermicro X11SAT, but it's like $300 minimum on eBay. I was finding plenty of used 7th gen boards for around $50, though like I said none with the x8/x8 support I need, I just need to know which model # to search for. I'm really hoping to just find a gaming MB that will suit my needs since I don't need ECC support anyway (though yes I know I should for my current use case but I'm trying to save money). Actually it can be gaming or workstation, as long as I can find it relatively cheap used or new. Would really appreciate any help.

Hey all, I seem to be out of luck with any attempt with an XMP overclock and I'd like to talk about a solution. The Problem For any attempted XMP overclock, my PC will sustain power (including all lighting, fans (default to full RPM), and the water pump) but it will not POST. It will hang with a black screen. Attempts to reboot warm will give the same result, while cold reboot achieves POST with the option for F1 Setup to BIOS. Please also note: A stable non-XMP CPU overclock past 5.0 GHz can be achieved. Specs Motherboard: Asus Prime Z270-AR CPU: i7-7700K (stock settings for XMP testing, Voltage at AUTO, stock Multiplier) RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 4x8GB 3200 MHz Previous XMP Attempts CPU: - I've kept the CPU at stock settings for the XMP profile. RAM (with stock timings ) : - 3200MHz / @3.502 Volts - 3200MHz / @Auto Voltage - 3000MHz / @3.502 Volts - 3000MHz / @Auto Voltage Please let me know what you think! If you have a solution, questions, or suggestions, fire away! I will provide more information upon request (I wasn't sure what else is needed). Thanks as always!

Hey everyone, I cracked open my already de-lidded 7700k to re apply thermal compound since it has been a few years since I originally delidded and I am regretting it. My mistake was using a teeny tiny bit of super glue to adhere the heat spreader back on. When I popped the head spreader off for the second time (just now) i noticed 2 very tiny points of exposed copper ish color on the PCB. I cleaned everything up as best I could, re-applied thermal compound, and prayed for the best. My computer can only function with single channel memory (16gb. 2X 8gb dimms) in slots B1 and B2 of my asus strix z270e motherboard. I'm an idiot and feel so dumb for putting super glue on my cpu to adhere the heat spreader. i should have just let the clamps hold it down. I tested all of my RAM in all slots. All of the dims are healthy, it's only slots A1 and A2 which are not working but i'm only assuming it's due to my CPU that i fucked up. The motherboard should still be healthy. So i need help deciding if i should look on ebay for a used 7700k or just go for a new cpu/motherboard and a 9700k or move to AMD (i'm open to both, and any suggestions). I bought my 7700k a few days before the 8k series came out and was screwed with socket compatibility on LGA 1151. Cost-wise it would make much more sense just to find a used 7700k and stick with my current platform but i'm quite tempted to go for something newer given how much advance there has been lately in the CPU market. Money isn't too much of an issue, I have a bit to spend and could upgrade to a new platform if I wanted. The other solution is simply just to ride out this CPU as long as i can with the missing memory slots running 16gb. i do not want to do this. i hate the idea of having a crippled system. there is also more potential for the CPU to completely fail and i hate the idea of losing any of my data as i have several hundred GB of photos and video on my computer. GPU is and 1080ti and i do quite a bit of gaming and a lot of photo/video editing w/ adobe products. Thank you in advance for any comments and help! I feel so dumb. I'm currently smoking to relax because i'm super upset :'(

Hey all! I actually have many questions etc. I am relatively good with computers and have had several builds. I built this system about 4 years ago? Just after the release of the 7700k was released. I've always bought unlocked cpus as after a couple years I tend to oc them as high as possible before throwing the towel in and beginning the new system build. Now unfortunately I think I have a bad chip :( I simply can not get 5ghz and I'm stuck at 4.9ghz @1.375v which I feel is too high for that clock anyway, max load temps are around 65-71*C in prime 95 which is fine (I did delid the cpu). The question I have is there something I am missing? I can provide screen shots etc. Also if I can't get this thing to OC more should I upgrade? I'm currently sitting with 7700k, msi Z270 carbon pro, 32gb gskill ram 3200 ddr4(which I can use for the next build). Corsair h115i v2 and a zotac 1070 amp (I've been wanting to upgrade to the rtx 2080 as there are some super good deals where I live atm, the one store is selling them for less then a rtx 2070 super and from my understanding the rtx 2080 is a better card). Could my cpu be limited by my mobo? Will it bottleneck a 2080. I play games @1440p and I'm not happy with the 1070s performance. Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, so I have a Asus Strix z270F with an i7 7700k , stock clocks. The mobo pushes around 1.33-1.34V into my CPU in high loads, which seems way excessive. I tried changing the core voltage in Bios and it doesn't save when booting to Windows. Tried setting the voltage to static, doesn't do anything either. It seems like any changes I make to the voltages in Bios just don't work. I have the latest Bios version. Am I missing any hidden setting that overrides everything I do?

Hi All! I have a question about my PC build, I built this PC around 3 years ago. I am a Computer science student and so do a lot of coding, video editing, 3d modelling as well as gaming. My current build is as follows; Intel i7 7700k Overclocked to 4.6ghz Evo 220 cooler ASUS Z270-A motherboard Crucial ballistix sport ddr4 2400 single ram 16gb stick GTX 1060 Overclocked to max before stability issues Bronze 550W EVGA PSU Now my question is, I am looking to make some kind of upgrade to my PC before I end up completely rebuilding it to try to get as much power from the system as I can before a complete new build is completed. I dont want to sink to much money into this system unless its a part I will use on my new PC I will be building within the next year. What do you recommend I do to this system to increase the speed without spending much? My current opinion would be to upgrade the RAM to 3000mhz and get two 8gb sticks to take advantage of dual channel. I have also considered upgrading the cooler so I can OC my CPU further, or possibly even doing a delid on it to lower temps and get a higher clock speed. My question is, would I be best to increase the speed of the CPU by delidding it or would the performance be minimal with such a slow RAM and only using single channel, do you believe the ram could be bottle necking my CPU? Thanks for your help!

Hi everyone, Alex here. I am wondering why even after 5 years 6700 and 7700 chips on amazon are still ~ 300+$?! For such money you can get a top ryzen cpu.

Hi Everyone! I have an i7 7700K and I plan on just keeping it at stock and not overclocking it. I usually just web browse and paly games, such as BFV and the likes. I currently have an H115i but the pump died (idle temps 50-60 celcius, and gaming pinned at 90) so now I've RMA'ed it and plan on buying a new cooler and considering air coolers. Now I'm wondering which one I should buy, any suggestions as which one is best for my needs? I have a Lian-Li Lancool ii case and a maximus ix mobo thanks in advance!

Hey, i recently started overclocking my system which has an I7 7700K on Asus Maximus VIII Hero. I managed to oc my cpu to 4.8GHz on all cores without additional voltage. How much volts are ok for this CPU and how far should i be able to push it? I cool it with an corsair 115i Platinum RGB Thy for your answers

Hey, I've had an i7 7700k for a while running on an Asus TUF Z270 MK1 and with an NZXT Kraken X62 AIO. With the fans at 80% (corsair LL140's) in a push pull configuration, i reach temps of 70 - 80. They never dip below 70 but never go higher than 78. I'm going to upgrade my chassis to a higher airflow one (probably the 680X Crystal series) but I wanna know if these are safe temps. I understand that this chip is known to get hot but I wanna know if I should dial back my 4.6 on all cores OC back to the stock frequency or if it's safe to keep it like this. Thanks!

I got a 7700k to replace my 6600k and used my old Corsair h100 that's now a few years old. Initially I had issues with my 7700k hitting high 90s under load but now I transported it for the winter break and now it hits 100C at idle. My 6600k would overclock at like 70C. I assume it's my cooler but I don't know if my cooler went bad or I've had a mounting pressure issue the whole time. Does this look like proper mounting pressure? Thanks for the help.

Hello everyone, Lately I've been asking myself a lot of questions related to the performance of my PC in this forum. Cinebench low scores, CrystalDisk low scores, Fake RAMs, etc etc. So, I've decided to use this day to do some benchmarking... On Windows 7. Why? Because I also wanted to know if Windows 7 works well if Kaby Lake and NVME. It does. Test #1: My PC was getting low scores (890, 850) on cinebench, I thought it was due to my low voltages. https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1115728-psu-dying No it was not: Test #2: Fake Ram? Checking its stability? https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1102369-did-i-buy-fake-ram-stick/ https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1115625-checking-ram-stability/ Results: memtest+ for an entire night, P95 for an entire night as well... Results? Everything is fine. Even if it's fake, it does behave like one. No prints this time. Test #3: My NVMe Drive was getting low scores on CD6. Decided to install windows 7 on my old Sata SSD and test the m2 device when it's not running windows: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1117379-samsung-nvme-500gb-970-evo-plus-benchmarks/ Results: Everything fine for a z270 chipset. Honestly, I don't know why I'm posting this here. I just wanted to share with you guys what happened. If you have any questions please let me know.

So i've had my corsair carbide 200r but I plan on getting a new cpu cooler for my 7700k (and eventually upgrade the cpu to something else later this year). Would I have any problems fitting any of the water coolers in here and are any especially bad? I currently have a 212 evo but my cpu usually gets to hot for some games like AC Odessey or ghost recon breakpoint. Especially when streaming Full computer specs should be in signature or you can ask me and i'll update it.
