For the past couple of days I've been trying to figure out what GPU I should buy for my system. System specs: Corsair Obsidian 750D Asus maximus VII Ranger Intel i5 4670k Corsair H100i Corsair AX760 Corsair Vengeance 2x 4gb Samsung 840 evo 250gb Seagate Barracude 2tb Should I go for the Asus r9 290 directcu II or for the Asus 770 directcu II. From reading reviews and looking at benchmarks I can see the r9 290 easily outperforms the 770. But with the 770 I have the possibility to go SLI in the future if I want to upgrade. Also, I want my system to be somewhat quiet. Is the noise level of the r9 290 really as bad as I've heard? On some youtube video's it sounds like an airplane... Note: I havn't bought the system yet. So any other tips on my setup are always welcome!

Hey LTT, I found someone on r/hardwareswap that was selling a GTX 770 Lightning and I got him down to about $260. I am pretty interested, but with current sales and coupons, I can get an EVGA GTX 770 ACX SC for right around the $290 after mail in rebates. The EVGA also comes with Watchdogs, which I was pretty interested in but it isn't really a deal breaker. Anyone got some advice on which card is a better deal? Does the Lightning really have any significant FPS boost over the EVGA? Just for reference, he claims he can easily get the card to +200mhz on the core, so it would hang right around 1400mhz boost.

ASUS has announced the Asus Strix Radeon R9 280, armed with 3 GB of memory (model: STRIX-R9280-OC-3GD5). The card appears to feature the same exact DirectCU II based cooling solution as the one on the GTX 780 Strix, and likely a similar PCB to the R9 280 DirectCU II series. The cooler offers 0 dBA cooling when the GPU is running at temperatures below 65 °C, and begins to spool up only beyond that. So handling most desktop and mild 3D loads should be completely quiet. The card also offers a factory OC. The GPU is clocked at 980 MHz, and the memory at 5.20 GHz, compared to reference clocks of 933 MHz core and 5.00 GHz memory. Based on the 28 nm "Tahiti" silicon, the Radeon R9 280 offers 1,792 GCN stream processors, 112 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface. ASUS didn't reveal pricing. http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/asus_radeon_r9_280_strix_oc_edition_graphics_card.html

Quick question: Can I SLI my 770 lightning with a 2g 770 gaming? Would there be any bad effects? (and why is the lightning disappearing from the marked?)

I just installed a Kraken g10 on my EVGA GTX 770, and I did everything according to the manual and their instuction video. Though I have a problem. It seems that the card isn't actually getting cooled. At all, it stays at a 38 degrees Celsius on idle, but just trying to run Crysis 3 skyrocketed the temp uo to 98. I have no idea what to do. I'm not sure if I have to connect the watercooler (Corsair H55) to a specific pin. Considering my H100I is already using the CPU fan pins. I have no idea what to do. So any help is apriciated. Every installation guide and manual has said to get thermal paste. I didn't have any, So I used what came with the H55 (pre-applied) if neccesary I'll go buy some tomorrow. Thanks motherboard: Asus z87-pro Ram: Corsair lp 1600mhz CPU: Intel I7 4770k Cpu cooler: Corsair H100I Gpu: EVGA GTX 770 2gb Gpu Cooler: Corsair H55 Psu: Corsair GS800 Storage: Kingston 120gb SSD Seagate 2tb

So this build actually turns out to be £1279 but any remains on the £1400 will go towards games or whatever. Multi-purpose build; going to game, render (iMax 3D, Unreal Engine, Adobe CC - is CUDA even necessary for this anymore or will a 280X be a cheaper, better substitute for a GTX 770?) and code. I was also wondering, with the delays in Broadwell production, whether buying a 4770K is worthwhile but I'm not that keen on prolonging the build anymore. Aside from that, I think the other components speak for themselves. All thoughts welcome. Thanks, Nathan http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/3RO8L

Which one should I go for? I will be doing a lot of gaming on BF4 and a lot of editing with Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and Speedgrade. Would I be able to get at least 60fps on high on BF4 with the 760 whilst recording with Dxtory? The 760 is £170 - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-msi-gtx-760-twin-frozr-gaming-oc-28nm-pcie-30-(x16)-6008mhz-gddr5-gpu-1085mhz-boost-1150mhz-core The 770 is £250 - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-msi-gtx-770-tf-gaming-pcie-30-(x16)-7010mhz-gddr5-gpu-1098mhz-boost-1150mhz-cores-1536-dport-dvi Edit* - This will be for a new build, not with my current specs. Yarrrrrr, Galaxy be working on a white "GTX 770 HOF ICE", (Hall Of Fame) watercooled edition.. It will feature both a white PCB, probably the same as their previous 770 HOF card aswell as a white full-cover waterblock with brushed aluminium plate in its center right. Galaxy did not mention who will fabricate the block but, as EK has previously released a white waterblock for the GTX 780 HOF. I'm assuming this also be their work but that not be been confirmed. It be unkown right now, when Galaxy will release this card. Source, sorry for now only dutch: http://nl.hardware.info/nieuws/39995/galaxy-werkt-aan-gtx-770-hof-ice-met-wit-waterblok EDIT: English article: http://www.ocaholic.ch/modules/news/article.php?storyid=9862 Yarrrrr, Seems great for people with builds that include these colours, and don't want to break the bank on a new videocard. Personally I don't like white in builds at all so I wouldn't buy them.

So, I'm planning on matbe selling my new computer and re build a newer one from scratch, as the computer I have now, was build kinda poorly (by me) and has some bad picks in it (by me). So while looking at a GPU, I find I have two options; 770 or R9 280X. The rest of the system is looking to be an FX-8320, 4x2 RAM, 120 SSD and 1 TB HDD. The models I'm looking at are the MSI GAMING ones. Prices are pretty much the same (R9 280X is rougly a dollar cheaper) Help me pick! Which one will perform best in games?

So I finally got my Gigabyte R9 290 today. Installed it and then went straight ahead to launch Skyrim. My framerate on modded skyrim jumped from about 33 FPS average to a whopping 48 FPS in the exact same area. That's a massive 45% jump in performance for essentially just 25% more GCN cores. (2048 on the 7970 to 2560 on the 290). I tested using the same GPU frequency at 1100mhz. I honestly did not anticipate seeing a jump this big. Will of test Watch Dogs & Crysis 3 next.

As some of you know, there was a myth awhile ago that cards like the GTX 770 or 760 that came in 4GB variations can't use all of its VRAM because the memory bus was too small. Of course, this rumour was said to be wrong, as it CAN use over 3GB. This was proven awhile ago. The following is just evidence to support that fact, as within less than a minute of running modded mc I managed to use 3.9/4GB. (I hit 3.6GB on Just one screen >.>) The Benchmark itself: Modded minecraft with shader mods + 512x Texture pack, at near-surround resolution. I had to use a secondary game just to get an onscreen display of all my data, but the game was idling at very low GPU and VRAM usage. Doesn't effect numbers. Of course, this won't be true for ALL games, but it can utilize all of it if it needs to =D Yes you could say this was already pretty obvious, just wanted to show it =D

Unfortunately my 660ti pe caught fire yesterday and i'm looking to get a new card. As much as it was probably my fault for the mosfet to explode I don't think I wan't any more twin frozr coolers in the future. I know that the 280x might be a better option now that the prices are back down but nvidia has caught me with geforce experience so i think i'm gonna get a 770. So far the only one I see that i think is worth getting is the Asus DCU II version. Anyone else recommend this particular product?

THE BUILD PLAN https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=wish_lists&wlcId=301961&action=wish_lists Coolermaster HAF XB Case Corsair RM-650 80 Plus Gold Power Supply ASUS Z97-PRO WiFi/AC Motherboard Corsair Dominator Platinum 1600 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 Intel Core i5 4670K Corsair Hydro Series H100i CPU Cooler 1x EVGA GeForce GTX 770 Dual SC ACX 4GB (more later for more FPS) Intel 530 Series 240GB SSD Why are you upgrading? Generally hated the weight and maneuverability of pcs so used to have a Dell Studio 17inch which was a beast of a laptop. After the screen stopped working I got a 3rd job and bought after much toil an $800 Acer Aspire-m ultrabook. I still have this but it’s basically worthless because of the “windows 8.1 connectivity issue” which after trying to fix spread to both wifi and Ethernet. No downloading and no youtube. Bye bye useless laptop. Aims Gaming + Sound Processing Battlefield 4, Arma 3, Day Z standalone, Hardline (when its released) Ableton, Cubase Aside from running these programs and games. There are some things that are very important due to the cost of my build. 1) LONGETIVITY -Ideally lasts 10 years and only features upgrades that are required to access new technology. THAT MEANS NO FAILURES. 2) UPGRADING- I need to be able to increase this computers features over time with minimal replacement of parts. 3) AESTHETICS - for a 3500 dollar computer it’s going to make my balls drop when I look at it and I wanted it to look different to just your standard mid tower gaming rig and I wanted it to have something in it that made it unique. 4) LOW TEMPERATURE – I knew that if I wanted the parts to last as long as possible, I would need some significant cooling, but a full water cooling set up was super expensive and difficult to implement in a small case. 5) BENCHMARKS – I want the best benchmarks out of the most bang for your buck parts – it doesn’t have to always be the top product. Budget & Location $3500AUD Basically as much as it takes to make this thing amazing without hating myself. Australia Monitors Samsung 1080p S24B300H (slightly diff. model to the one in the link.) A 55inch Sony Bravia 1080p LCD Peripherals Windows 8.1 Razer Black Mamba Razer Deathstalker Essential Slim (considering changing this because I need led lighting and I’d like some macro keys) Yamaha 500W HTR-6130 5.1 Surround Currently it only has a few more parts to go in, and is working wonderfully with base temperatures in the case of 25 degrees and not breaching 30 degrees celcius. This is without some of the fans, the ssd and with a borrowed graphics card until I can get my hands on that lovely evga. Please let me know what you think, I’ve pretty much exclusively used linus tech tips as my guide on building and picking the parts for this computer so a massive thank you to him and linustech tips staff. I'm a total noob and I successfully built a working custom rig that is pretty amazing with your help. I will attach a video and photos featuring all the benchmarks of the finished build and a run-through of how I went about the build when its finally finished. I'll also unveil the special unique feature that i've been working on. cheers and thanks for reading. silent_goat

My computer as it stands today, is capable of running everything. But as the newer games came out, I had to reduce the quality as it became to much for my current GPU. Current relevant parts: Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO CPU: i5 2500K at 3,3GHz GPU: Radeon HD 5770 So. With Assassins creed 4, WATCH_DOGS and other titles coming out (GTA V. Yes, it will) my current GPU will most likely fail to reach enough. The ones I have looked at as of now are these graphics cards. Now, bear in mind that I will be going for one GTX 770 now, and possible SLI later on. Prices are Norwegian Kroner (NOK) Converted into USD Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 2GB - 547$ http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=782229 MSI GeForce GTX 770 2GB - 623$ http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=782081 MSI GeForce GTX 770 Gaming 4GB - 639$ http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=791534 EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2 GB - 538$ http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=790799 EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB "Superclocked" - 555$ http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=782637 So far I have read both positive and negative things about these cards. And then the opposite about them. EVGA having the best customer service, faster and generally cooler. And then the oposite about it, and other cards. Which one(s) would you suggest? Are any of these above the rest in general view? or is everyone just pure subjects to personal views? If you come this far, thank you for reading this.

Hey everyone, quick question. I originally thought when i built my PC i would buy a GTX 760 for my rig, but in the end i saved a little extra and went for the 770. Since the 770 uses more power than the 760, I am now concerned as to wether i am 'maxing out' my PSU, and am not sure if i have any room left to overclock (which i wish to do). Here are my specs: i5 4670K - Stock clocks for now, and stock heat sink. Asrock Z87 Extreme 4 Motherboard 8 GB Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz RAM EVGA GTX 770 Superclocked ACX Dual Bios - Stock clocks Corsair CX600M PSU Fractal Design Define R4 case Samsung 840 SSD 120GB *AND BUYING WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR BLACK/BLUE SOON* So my question is, is my PSU going to be maxed out right now with these specs? It is 80+ bronze rated. I want to overclock my 770 for that little extra horsepower, but dont want my PSU to die Could i squeeze in a CPU overclock as well, or is a PSU upgrade needed. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

Hello everyone, I'm going kinda crazy over here since all three of these builds are similarly priced and I really don't know which one to choose. Main uses: Gaming, period. (The price difference does not matter as it is only about 100$-150$) If you do answer, please provide an explanation on why you chose either build option. 1) 2) 3) EDIT: I'M GAMING AT 1080P, BUT MAY UPGRADE IN THE FUTURE, THEY ALL ARE THE SAME PRICE SO IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER...

i have two gtx 770 and was wounding if adding di-noc to them would screw up the temperatures, one of them runs realy hot when i play my games because my computer does not like my other one that much

I was looking up a couple reviews for the GTX 770 and noticed that it was only a bit behind the GTX 780 for 2560x1440. Do you guys think the 780 is worth it over the 770 in terms of 2560x1440 gaming performance? This is a discussion/question so please do not tell me to get "x" card instead. Thanks in advance.

As the title says I'm wondering if the GTX 770 4GB can use all it's VRAM or will it cap at for example 2,8GBs or something? I've heard people say so many different things so I'm looking for the answer.
