I have a build with an ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero Alpha with an i7-6700k cooled by a Corsair H100i V2. ASUS 5way optimization only boosted the clocks from 4.2GHz to 4.3GHz... Manual tweaking allowed a stable OC at 4.5GHz but I can't seem to get it higher. I'm getting (3) 3000rpm Noctua fans in the mail tomorrow. so the intake SHOULD counteract the 2700rpm the H100i can get up to so there should be enough cool air to come in to help the cpu cool a little quicker and not crash, right? at 4.5GHz my voltage was 1.34v-1.39v (if memory serves) so I know it can be pushed a little further but it seems to crash regardless of how much tweaking I do. Is it due to the H100i being only a 240mm rad? Would increasing intake airflow help keep cpu and vrm cooler to push them a little more? Bitwit on youtube did an interesting vid on mounting rad in front of my H440 and it seemed to lower temps.. complete build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/UnityComp/saved/sK7pgs

Ive seen a lot of temperature gains by deliding / reapplying TIM for the 6700k, was skeptical about it until I tried. After the process I asked myself, why did Intel use such a bad thermal compound? To keep costs low? I mean cmon... a good thermal compound isnt that expensive anyway. To my surprise the TIM and the IHS application was worse than I tought. Take a look at this: The damn black silicone they applied made some cores being higher temperatures than others, not to mention that some surface of the CPU didn't had TIM at all... Look at the corners on the IHS: Cleaned the IHS and its now looking like this: Did not reapply Black Silicone after finishing, im letting the mobo bracket hold it in place. After I took of the IHS I found out that I scratched the CPU's PCB rofl, just a bit in the first corner where I started with the razor blade. Fortunately after reapplying thermal compound between the CPU and IHS it works properly. I used Gelid Solutions GC-Extreme and the temperature dropped by 12-15 degrees lol. The chip is now running at 4.8Ghz and 1.4V on a "custom" cooler at 80ºC. See complete build here.

Heya, I got a small system with beefy stuff in it and I'm kind of curious about overclocking, mostly, what increments of heat to expect. Let me first lay down the situation; I got a small form factor build where the cooler can be no higher than 58mm, my signature has the details on the stuff used. (And there's MX-4 cooling paste on the CPU.) At stock clocks, the system becomes 78°C in CPU heavy games without dust filters attached, and 86°C at most in AIDA64's stress test. So yeah, not much headroom. (In fact, with dust filters it becomes as high as 92°C in AIDA64.) What surprised me is that Salazar Studios made a mini-ITX build in a Fractal Design Node 202, with an i5 7600K at 4.5 GHz and a Cryorig C7 on top. His temps were 75°C at most... So I'm wondering if the C7 is better or is the Kaby Lake i5 just less hot despite being 91 Watt TDP as well? Or maybe both? I'm planning on going all out and get a Dynatron K129 and mount a fan on it, kind of like what Linus did to keep his 140 Watt TDP CPU cool in the Dan A4-SFX, but I can't seem to find any fan wire clamps for 92mm fans... (Also no idea if the backplate fits on my motherboard.) Anyway, back to the subject, what I wonder for now, as my CPU somehow runs at 1.328v when flexing is if an overclock without adding extra voltage could be done (of course depending on chip quality, so would have to find out myself), and, how many additional degrees at average can be expected per 100 MHz added?

So i want to start a big topic with this. My GTX 1070 which is even overclocked performs worse than my friends GTX 1060 in some games. he has virtually the exact setup as i do (see my info) exept for motherboard and ram. In games like CSGO he gets up to 100 FPS more than me on same settings (we tested this) So WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MY SETUP? i have also seen that while rendering my Motherboard goes up to even 78 DEGREES! that cant be good.... hopefully ill get alot of replies when i get back from eating my pizza, peace

K so i want to get the z270h motherboard but i also want the 6700k, i know that the z270 does support skylake but is there any fuky things ill have to do? the z270 looks nice, has everything i would like to make my build better.. but is it too good to be true? i may be wrong about something here, only one person has to tell me..

MOBO: Asrock Z170m Pro4SCPU: Intel i7 6700kCooler:Artic Freezer i32GPU: iChill GeForce GTX 1070 X4RAM: HyperX 2x4gb (2133Mhz)SSD:128gbHDD:1TbPSU: LEPA 400wAs the title states my cpu can run only on stock frequency. I do not think psu is the problem. Even though it is too small. I have tried with the be quiet 600w and xsilence 500w and the result is the same. The pc was bought used. I know I should have not done that but now I am stuck with it. When I first got it, everyting was on stock and ok. But then after a week it started bluescreening for no reason. After some time I have found the solution in increasing the vcore, turning the turbo and c states off and enabling xmp. Everything ok again and I tried overclocking it. None of the pre set oc profiles worked. Setting it manually did work but only with really scary voltages. Maximum was 4.4ghz with 1.48Vcore. I have returned frequency to 4ghz and left it there. Few weeks later (yesterday) I have tried again. Now it wont oc at all!! It just keeps bluescreening. As if someting is failing and the needed voltage is getting higher. Do you guys think that the problem is the motherboard or the cpu? I have also tried literally all of the bios versions. Now it is set to 4ghz, in stress test max voltage is 1.280. Also there is a weird chirping noise coming from cpu area, also 100% not HDD nor PSU and it dissapears when I put CPU-Z stress test on.I have no issues with temperatures nor stability in games. So far I have used speedfan, specy, cpu z, aida 64, cinnebench and hw monitor so I think the readings and my observations are correct. What do you guys think? How should I handle this?

Hi, today i tried making a vm with windows 98 for a video on my youtube channel. However, when trying to run it, i got an error message telling me Virtualization wasn't enabled. I went to my pc Bios and checked if it was on. It was enabled. I went back to Virtualbox and tried again. Still didn't work. https://gyazo.com/29bc2d6c3d4fb7237c4497ac66d34bea If you can help me send a reply ASAP. Thanks.

There are 1.2v and 1.35v DDR4 memories for sale... Does any one knows if the DDR4 memory voltage influences on the overclocking capability of a Skylake or Kabylake chip?

Dear fellow clockers, I bought a new Gaming rig about 4 months ago and thought about OCing it for quite some time. I got as far as going to 4.6ghz at around 73 degrees while running aida64 full load on the package. I was wondering, I am using a custom loop made by EKWB because I wanted to overclock in the future. I got a 360mm rad for both my 1070 GPU which is not OCd yet, and my 6700k which is running stable on 4.6ghz at around 1.330 vcore. Can I get anymore juice out of it, because when I go to 4,7ghz it wants me to go towards the 1.360vcore which makes my temps go around 90ish.. What are my options, I could fit another 240mm rad in my case but I dont know if its a big advantage or delidding is an option since I see people get 20 degrees off their CPU. Im running a Asus Z170 - Pro motherboard with it. If you would like to know my full hardware list of the PC please let me know!

I bought 6700k used for a really cheap price and I want to test if it even works. I only have a compatible motherboard and a psu on hand. Is it possible to test it with them? I dont have cooler either but i would just try if it boots or not.

I've been thinking about selling my 6700K for like $275 and my motherboard for about $60 so that I can buy a R5 1600X and motherboard to go with it. The reason for this is that while I do play some games, its barely ever when I do, so giving up the little bit of gaming performance is no big deal. Also I do a lot of video editing and rendering, where more cores would benefit. Another thing I've been considering is buying more RAM as video editing and especially After Effects benefit from this greatly. However ram prices continue to skyrocket (16Gb of DDR4 3000MHz will cost me about $170 alone right now and buying an 8Gb stick isn't worth it as the price doesn't scale very well) What would be the best choice for my situation? Keeping in mind gaming performance is not really a concern at all.

Hello, First, I am perfectly aware that 4.6Ghz is perfectly fine vs 4.7Ghz I have been working on the OC of my new i7 6700k (on Asus z170 Pro Gaming, 16Gb Corsair ddr4 2133mhz) and found a stable result at 4.6Ghz - 1.36V. With air cooling the temp can go up to 80 degrees but it's usually in the 70 range. I have tried working at 4.7Ghz but even with a 1.4 voltage, I get immediate errors on OCCT and Realbench can get me through 2/3 benchmarks before BSOD. The temperature stays ok, though (83 degrees big max). I am waiting for my custom watercooling loop and I was wondering if getting my CPU to lower temps would have enough impact on the stability for me to reach 4.7Ghz. I actually know you can't answer for sure because there are many parameters involved, but I read somewhere that temperature has an impact on stability, even when critical temps are not involved. What do you think? Also, I never changed VCCIO nor VCCSA, should I try? I'll keep you posted with my results with watercooling Thanks!

So after transporting most of my components from the U.K. to the US for the summer they don't seem to be playing well together. I reassembled my PC yesterday but when I turn it on everything does turn on, lights comes on, fans spin etc. but it doesn't output an image to the monitor, I've tried with DVI and HDMI through my 1070 as well as HDMI through my motherboard with the 1070 removed. It was working perfectly before I transported everything but now it's all gone to crap. Please help! Any ideas on what could be wrong or what I could do to troubleshoot some more?

So I've got my 6700K running at 4.8Ghz and ~1.345vcore. It sits at a very comfortable 70C or lower when under full artificial load, so I'd like to try and squeeze some more Mhz out of it, however when I push the OC to 4.9Ghz I experience the occasional BSoD, with a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. When I try and go to 5.0Ghz it doesn't even boot (same error as before). Will I be able to clock it any higher? Or have I hit the max it will handle? If so that's a bit annoying, considering how much extra thermal headroom I have. Mobo is an MSI Z170A Gaming Pro CPU cooler is an NZXT Kraken X62. Has anyone else encountered this? Did you find a solution? Any advice would be great.

how much do you think my gtx 1060 6gb is bottlenecking my 6700k?

Anyone have any idea why my cpu temp would all of a sudden start fluctuating like this ? I thought maybe my overclock settings( seems off due to the fact it's been the same for weeks with zero issues) so I dropped it back to stock and still it's like this. Also it seems to want to stay at core speed and core voltage even tho I'm set on balance mode. *NOTE* when I place power settings into power savings usage spikes to 60-70% this all started after play session. Never happened before. And both gpu temps are fine the system is on a custom loop and all 3 are tied into each other so I would see both gpus spiking if the system was over heating. Any ideas would be greatIntel I7 6700k Z170-AR

Hi everybody! One year ago (more or less) I was planning to build my first rig... When I first finished the build I had a momentary gpu, a Radeon HD 4800 series... That and some ugly cables prevented me to publishing my build on the forum But... today this baby came: That means I am finally upgrading! new specs: (italic for the upgrade) -Asus Z170 A -Intel 6700k @ 4.6GHz, 1,325 v -Corsair H110 GT -Corsair Rm750i -Corsair Carbide 600C -Samsung 850 EVO 250gb -WD 2TB drive -Toshiba 1TB drive -RX 480 Nitro+ -Sleeved cable extensions Some photos of the old system (All photos were taken with my Umi Plus.. not great photos..): An now the SnowPine PC at its greatest look! A friend of mine is printing some cable combs so that will hopefully look a little better.. I am very happy about how things worked out, let me know what you think about my rig, any comments and suggestions are appreciated (if expressed in an educated way ) Thanks !
