Which one of these CPU's would be better for a PC for 3D Auto CAD work? (it's for for an architect that is going to is it just at work).

I will start when the first issue aroused about a week ago now. I was playing a game on steam (Dota 2) and also browsing the web on my second monitor. All of the sudden the game freezes (this has never happened prior to this.) I have no choice but to restart the computer while in it's frozen state. Upon reboot windows trys to repair itself but the repair fails. After many attempts of repairs and restarts I decide to try to the other options on the BSOD. I try all options (restore, safe mode, etc.) except for the refresh option. Every once in awhile I will get the log file on the BSOD that says "F:Windows/System32/Logfiles/srt.srttrailtxt." After researching this message I try a few things in the command prompt which include running "CHKDSK/R/F" and also "sfc/scan now" After the sfc/scannow scan I get this... "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Details are included in the CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios. The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot." This message was not as optimistic as it sounds as I still can't get the computer up and running. I decide I have no choice but to "refresh the pc". I try all options (restore, safe mode, etc.) After all those options fail I decide I have no choice but to refresh the pc. After the refresh I start downloading the basic drivers from asus, windows updates and so forth. I download steam, and origin as well. I downloaded two games I have on steam and then proceeded to download the two games I have from Origin (Crysis 3, Titanfall.) While downloading these games it will freeze after a few minutes and I will force reboot. I then delete Orgin from the PC and reinstall it. I try downloading the games again. Crysis 3 downloaded successfully but Titan fails to download. Upon trying to download this game I get two error messages. The first message from Windows says... "Titanfall Audio Installer Error Titanfall Audio Installation failed! Could not read 114899 bytes at offset 161897669 in pak file " //?/c:/Program Files (x86)/Orgin Games/Titanfall/cpk/Client_mp_common.bsp.pal000_oo5.vpk 0x0000045D: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." The second message is from Orgin and says... Titanfall Error. A redisabutional package (audo_installer.exe) was not installed successfully. Setup cannot continue. (1) After restart the computer becomes extremely slow and unresponsive. Running almost any application causes the computer to freeze which forces me to restart. During this time I figured this wouldn't hurt so I updated my BIOS on the X99 deluxe to the latest version. The computer will get to the desktop but is not usable due to the crashes and slow behavior. Now i'm more lost than ever and decide to just do a clean install of Windows 8.1. This seems to work so I download the x99 drivers first, and then I try to download the latest GTX 980 graphics driver. It will start downloading but eventually the screens cut out black and never turn back on. ( The monitor should restart during the install of the new GPU driver but they should turn back on) Now I have to force restart again. This is where I am as of right now. I have no idea what to do. I am assuming that this is an issue with latest graphics driver from nvidia? Maybe someone else has had the same issue with the latest 980 driver? Is there something else I did wrong? Maybe the SSD or graphics card is faulty? My computer was working flawlessly up until the first issue on Saturday 2/7/15. I am so stressed out over this and am so thankful to anyone who could give some advice. Good day forum. After roughly a quarter of my life gone to YouTube videos regarding watercooling pros and cons, I've made it my mission to do a custom watercooling solution for my system. I have run into some issues however. My preferred color scheme is black and green. Though where can I find compression fittings and barbs that are of excellent quality and suit that color scheme well? Also, I need the entire set of requirements. Radiator, pump, tubing, fittings etc. I plan to spare no expense. I mean it to be done once, and done proper. Preferably a see through CPU block, reservoir and see through tubing. I plan to add a colorant to the distilled water mixture. I also saw a waterblock for a GTX980 with the Geforce symbol in green on the side lit up. I cant track it down however. X99 chipset 2011 5960X CPU Cooler Master Cosmos II Chassis 2x GTX980's All recommendations and advice is greatly appreciated. Kind regards

As we all know, most games don't run well on multicore CPUs, because they are optimized for Y2K hardware (wtf?) Could you be as kind as to post some games that are known to be well optimized for multicore CPUs like 5960x and so on? I'd love to try them.

Hi. I'm in the planing stages of watercooling my system. and not a 100% sure how I should go about mounting the res and pump optimale in my 750D. specs are: cpu: i7 5960x Mobo:: assus x99 deluxe GPU msi gtx 980 g4 gaming. psu: corsair axi 1200W CASE: CORSAIR 750 D Going to cool just the CPU and GPU*s I have decided on a thick 280mm rad in the front and a thick 360mm in the top. Going to have a D5 pump. and I'm not sure about wich res to go with. all the watercooling components are going to be from EKWD. apart from the coolent, that is going to be mayhems. Look at the picture. this is how to system is curently. (I'm going to take the HDD cage out and put the to HDD's in a NAS) AND yes I know that the PSIe powerkabels are a mess!!) any advice, tips or sugestions are more then welcome.

I am in the final stages of planning for a new build. This is an X99 build and the goal is to pack as much computing power as I can get into a mid tower case. I will be including 2x GALAX GTX 980 HOF in SLI and want to be able to showcase the GPUs. I am also planning ASUS X99 Deluxe (white accents) and I managed to pick up a SeaSonic Snow Silent (1050W) PSU. With the HOFs, X99-Delux and SeaSonic Snow Silent, I have a great start on a white/gray build. I am looking for advice on a case that will help out with the color scheme. I will make custom cables for the color scheme. Core components: Intel Core i7 5960X (I will overclock) NZXT Kraken X61 ASUS X99-Deluxe 2x GALAS GTX 980 HOF (SLI) 64GB DDR4 2800MHz Mushkin Scorpion 960GB or 1920GB PCIe boot drive (haven't decided capacity yet) 2x Western Digital Caviar Black 4TB (RAID1) for data/backups. 3x Samsung S27D590C monitors This is primarily a work computer (numerical/Monte Carlo modeling + ray trace/optical design), but I also want to be able to play any game I want at high FPS. Before you comment, yes I NEED THAN MUCH RAM. Total budget is $7,500 - $8,000. Thanks in advance.

A lot of member here ask about why their cpu is not able to OC llke the others and we mostly say it's silicon lottery. The folks over at Tom's Hardware has manage to get their hands on five Core i7 5960X to see how high each one is able to OC, as well as got to chat with Intel's Paul Zagacki, principal engineer with the company’s client computing group. On what their team went through in bringing higher stable overclocks in Devil Canyon. Check it out. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/overclocking-retail-intel-core-i7-5960x-cpu,4237.html

i was talking with a friend of mine about the new titan x and its 250w tdp and i said that it would be hard to see a 5960x with a 4way titan x due to the 250w tdp of each card and he was like if someone can buy 4 titan x then he could get 5 psu one for each card and one for the cpu, so i told him that this is not possible to put 5 psu in one pc but he said it is, so i wanna know is it possible to run a pc on 5 psu even if that person had a custom case that support 5 psu and the custom made motherboard power connector

How many people are actually using the new i7 5960X in builds. I see lots of hype, but I haven't really seen anyone using them. I'm running on an i7 2640M right now and it barely seems to get the job done. I start my first build at the beginning of the year!

I am in the planning stages for a dream machine build: ASUS X99 Deluxe, 5960X, 64GB DDR4 2800MHz, XP941 512GB (boot), Samsung 850 Pro 1TB (games/applications), 2x Western Digital Caviar Black 4TB (RAID1) (data), NZXT X61 Kraken CPU cooler, 3x Samsung S27D590C I want to run 2 GALAX GTX 980 HOF (SLI), but they are proving hard to come by. For about the same $ I can get 3 GALAX GTX 970 HOF (SLI). I was hoping for a nice clean build which is why I wanted 2x 980's. I am afraid cramming 3 cards into the case (Thermaltake Core V51) is going to take some effort and just won't look at good. Thoughts? BTW: This is a dual use system: heavy numerical modeling and ray trace/optical design + game. Budget is $7,500

I'm trying to plan a new build and I need lots of CPU horsepower for numerical modeling. In the evenings I will be using the same box for gaming. I started looking at a 5960X to maximize GFLOPS, but it comes at a real price premium. For about the same $$$ I can buy 2 5930K's and (in theory at least) have a lot more horsepower for the daytime work. Is this an insane idea? What OS would be best for this type of beast? Budget for the build is $7,500 - $8,000. Rest of the major components: 2x GTX 980 (SLI) Samsung XP941 512GB (boot) Samsung 850 Pro 1TB (apps/games) 2x Western Digital Caviar Black 4TB (RAID 1)

I'm working on a dream machine build for a mixed use system (numerical modeling/gaming) and I'm wondering about the real difference between different (ASUS) X99 mobos. I question if there is any real benefit to the Rampage V Extreme if I am not going to use more than 3 PCIe cards. I love the look of the OC control panel for the Rampage V, but I don't plan on changing my OC settings that often. I have almost settled on the ASUS X99 Deluxe, but am wondering about the Rampage V Extreme and the X99 Pro (model above and model below). All of them have built in wifi support, but . . . Rest of the build: CPU: Core i7 5960X (overclocked) CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 RAM: 64GB DDR4 G.Skill Ripjaws 4 2800 MHz GPU: 2x GALAX GTX980 HOF (SLI) Boot: Samsung XP941 512GB Apps/Games: Samsung 850 Pro (1TB) Data/Backup: 2x Western Digital Caviar Black 4TB (RAID1) Display: 3x Samsung S27D590C PSU: Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W Budget is $7,500 but I don't want to spend money if I'm not going to notice an improvement

So I just finished all the cable management in my system which is the final step in the competion of my rig. Only there is one cable that is not plugged in and that is the g 1/4" temperature plug. It is a two pin connector that is attached to the reservoir, I just have no idea where to plug it in the motherboard. I am using the X99 Deluxe motherboard from Asus and I don't have any idea where to plug it in. I have looked in the manuel but no luck. Does anybody know where to plug in the temp sensor into this motherboard??

Please read carefully before commenting that it is stupid to go with that processor! I got sent the i7 5960X, I did not purchase it, I would never buy such an expensive piece of hardware that I will have practially no use of. I cannot tell you why or how you can get one too, so don't bother asking. The most I do with my PC is play games and some Adobe Illustrator editing, cause I design magazines. Nevertheless, since this processor is basically free, if we disregard the VAT fee, I have decided to keep it and upgrade my existent i7 3820, something that I have been considering anyway. To the topic: I've been away from the computer industry for a couple of months, particulalry the X99 motherboard market segment, therefore I really don't know which motehrboard will be suitable for a 5960X. I did some preliminary research and my intutition hints me to go with an Asus one, since that's all I've been using for years now and I have had no trouble with them. The thing is that it would be perfect if I can find a nice Micro-ATX motherboard, since I really like my 350D and I don't feel prepared to swap it with something else. The only decent looking Micro-ATX board that I was able to find was the EVGA X99 -131-HE-E995-KR. The thing is that EVGA is known for their very unreliable motherboards so I really don't know. I also have no idea if this motherboard will be able to sustain a decent 4.5+ GHz overclock. Are there any X99 Micro-ATX that are supposed to be released recently? PS: I don't really have a budget so the more feature-extensive the motherboard, the better.
