What processor do you guys think is the best in gaming / streaming? I want to buy one , and if this help , it will be paired with 2x GTX 1080 EVGA ACX 3.0 SC. It doesn't matter the price for me , the budget is not going to be a problem anyways.

Hey everyone! A short while ago, I posted here for feedback on the machine I was putting together, and I ended up putting together the unit, with the following: Thermaltake Core X9 Black E-ATX Stackable Tt LCS Certified Cube Chassis CA-1D8-00F1WN-00 ASRock X99 Extreme11 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard 2 x EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 06G-P4-4998-KR 6GB CLASSIFIED 1 x Intel Core i7-5960X Haswell-E 8-Core 3.0 GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W 1 x G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C14Q-64GVK 1 x Antec HCP Platinum HCP-1000 1000W ATX12V V2.32 / EPS12V V2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified ... 2 x SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 512GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V5P512BW 1 x Noctua NF-A15 PWM 140mm Premium Quiet Quality Fan with Round Frame, AAO Technology 1 x Noctua NH-D15S 140mm SSO2 D-Type Premium CPU Cooler, NF-A15 PWM Fans So while I am overjoyed to begin to tinker, I do have a few issues. Of course. Hehe. For starters, to be clear, I intend on overclocking; but no overclocking at all has been done yet, everything is stock from the vendor. Ah.. And, I haven't setup RAID for the m.2 drives yet.. So.. with that: Things were going great, well.. never. We started off with some ddr4 compat issues, but a quick trip to a local computer store resolved that; moving on, once I got the bios updated, I was able to pretty quickly get around to getting up and operational, then begin stability testing / benchmarking with furmark, aida64 and the cpubenchmark benchmark tool. My machine performed at 5600~ for the score at stock, without raid on the drives ultra m.2 drives. I had a few weird crashes once I got the machine up in SLI.. Three or so, during a furmark, and aida64 test (separately). During each crash I was monitoring the temperatures for CPU, MOBO, GPUs, and the cpu/mobo stayed super cool, at around ~40ish, the GPU's never went above 75ish on furmark, or above 65 on AIDA64. On each crash, I rebooted the machine, and ASROCKs Dr Debug popped up with b4 issue (which isn't a code in my book, but on x77 boards, it pertained to legacy rom or pcie or something?), I rebooted once more (in all instances of this), and got a 94 code. This is for a PCIE card. Darn. So I am in the middle of trying to debug this as we speak, and here's what i've tried so far: When taking the second video card out, it doesn't seem to have any issues at all, it is a bit laggy during the test (like intermittent frame skips), enough to use a different PC while it's stability testing right now, but.. I don't know if that is normal. Nevertheless, at the very least it isn't crashing. I also tried the reverse (with the other gfx card), in a lesser capacity, and it didn't crash either. (I was hoping to discover this card crashing, so I could atleast RMA, and get it going.) In addition to the above, I ran the AIDA64 test with everything but the GPUs selected, and it ran great. No issues, I was able to watch youtube videos, no frame stuttering, etc. I'm still digging around, but if you guys have any thoughts, I'd greatly appreciate feedback! edit: phrasing, edit2: attached a few screencaptures of stability testing with a single gfx card a,.. I'm not sure what would help, so I grabbed everything from the aida64 stability test. please let me know if I can provide more details/better information. This test was with everything selected (minus hdd) for ~25 minutes, I'll get gfx card b and memtest posted shortly.

I've overclocked my 5960X to 4.6GHz on all 8 cores with HPT on, but my problem is that I've overclocked in the Bios and every settings in the bios are saved, but when I entered Windows, it's actually not overclocked, I can't explain that, every settings in the Bios are set to the overclock settings. I've tried increasing the coere voltage and even the PSU, but no hope. Problem is that every single time it's on stock CPU clock and ram frequency is also at stock

I am starting a new business that involves rendering 4K video and high quality images. I will need a beast of a PC that can handle it all with no issues. Since 4K video and high quality images have massive files sizes, I need to have adequate storage. I plan on using the Samsung 512GB Pro M.2 drive for my OS, main programs etc. For the two, 4TB Western Digital Black drives, I plan to use one as a backup drive and one for base storage. Then lastly for my two 1TB Samsung Evo's, I would like to use them as my main storage and editing drives in Raid 1. If anyone has any better suggestions with out going over budget, I would love to hear. For the rest of parts, I figure they will come naturally and you will understand why they were selected. Motherboard quality is very important and at this point, I do not plan on doing a custom water cooling loop, but plan on keeping the all in one systems. Because my budget is around $5,500, please keep the monitors in mind which are listed in the part list, and also, select high quality, high speed products. This very important because this system will be used a lot and is the back bone to my business. Should I purchase the 5960X? I will be using it mostly rendering, gaming and streaming. Dont have a cry about cost. I have the cash and I'm spending it on ridiculously priced items. Deal with it. I will overclock the cpu. Uh.. yeah... Is this what I should be looking at? Don't recommend lesser CPU's, please. Only better ones. ... ...Yeah...

Please read before commenting: No, this is not my money. No, I am not silly/rich enough to put six grand into a computer for gaming. No, this money can not be spent or saved in any other way. It will also be used for video (and photo) rendering, editing, and other such tasks. TooShort/ReadMore: I would very much appreciate any help refining this build. It started as a very rough sketch with the wrong model graphics card (Confused Titan Z with Titan X), so I'm hoping for some general advice and insurance that I haven't missed anything. (It's been about four years since I built my last one.) Generally just want to idiot-proof this build before we start ordering parts, as there is too much money here to make a silly mistake. (By idiot proofing, I do not mean criticizing the amount spent here. Again, this is not my money and it can not be spent any other way.) Any and all advice from a better processor (Skylake?) to dust filters would be amazing, and I'd greatly appreciate the help from the community. The build initially started with two Titan's, however I recently removed one; to remain under budget, and for upgradability purposes as Nvidia is heard to be releasing a new/better card soon. (You couldn't pay me to go with AMD instead, they absolutely screwed me on my last build.) Separately, the case comes with one 140mm and three 200mm fans. That combined with the water cooling for the graphics card and processor should theoretically mean that the cooling is completely covered, however I may be terribly terribly wrong. (This is why I'm asking for help!) Never done an overclocking build quite like this. Appreciate it!

Hey guys! I'm currently planning a loop for an editing (and gaming) PC, water-cooled components will be an overclocked 5960X and dual-SLI Cards - I'm waiting for the Pascal-GPU, planning to go with the successor to the 980ti. As this PC will be placed in the bedroom, and the edited UHD-content will be rendering over night, silence even under heavy load is required. It will be build into the Caselabs SM8, and I was wondering if a 420 and 360 radiator (~60mm thickness) will be enough to match the mentioned requirements, or if it would be necessary to include the Pedestal with another 480 (and 240...). For fans, I selected the BeQuiet SilentWings2, but any fitting alternative is welcome in case you consider this a bad choice. As for the Radiators, I don't know witch one to choose, HardwareLabs Nemesis GTX or Alphacool NexXxos - or something completely different? I would appreciate if someone could tell me if it is helping to have the extra holes (like on Nexxxos) to remove air trapped in the top with something like Bitspowers pressure-equalizer, or if this is unnecessary anyway. Thank you for your help

My PC config is Intel i7 5960x, 32gb Corsair 2666mhz ddr4 ram, Nvidia GTX980 and it takes 40 minutes to render one single frame while my friends computer take only 30min with i7 4790k chip, 2GB ddr3 ram and some really cheap graphic card. Is there something I am doing wrong? Correction He has 2 GB render card and 4GB ram.

I found a problem with EVGA 980ti Classified's ! It seems they do not support x16/x16 PCI-E bandwidth on the EVGA X-99 Classified motherboard even though the board is suppose to support x16/x16. This is a problem with both the 5930K and the 5960X which both have 40 PCI-E lanes. I have not been able to test it on any other motherboards. Below is my original post on the EVGA forums and here is a link to the thread http://forums.evga.com/980ti-Classified-2way-SLi-PCIE-lane-issues-X99-Classified-MB-NO-x16x16-m2399449.aspx I am hoping somebody here can help figure this out or that the Linus Media Group could talk about this in a video or on the Wan Show. System info : EVGA X99 Classified E-ATX motherboard Intel 5930k custom water loop 16gb G. Skill 2666 DDR4 RAM EVGA SuperNova P2 1000w power supply 2x EVGA 980ti Classified I installed 2x EVGA 980ti Classified GPU's a few weeks ago. They are installed in slots 1 and 4 EVGA's product manual says these are the proper slots for 2way SLI on this board and they should be x16/x16 with the 40 PCI-E lanes from the 5930K. I have the extra 6 pin power plugged into the motherboard for the PCI-E slots. For some reason slot 1 is reading 3.0 x16 but slot 4 is reading 3.0 x8. Why is slot 4 x8 and not x16 like it is suppose to be?? Is it that the GPU just can't use the bandwidth ? I tried pushing the cards with Heaven benchmark, 3d Mark, Furmark and it stayed at x8. I have tried disabling the other PCI-E slots. I have both the m.2 slots disabled. I have no other hardware in any other PCI-E slots. I also noticed that in the Nvidia LED configurator that the card in slot 4 is reconized as card 1. I am not sure if thats normal or just a bug in the software. When I had my 780ti's in they always read x16 on both slots. I just can't wrap my head around this. I know there is no real performance gains from x8 to x16, but I bought the 5930k specifically because it had 40 PCI-E lanes. I would like to be able to use the lanes and hardware as stated in the product specifications. If anyone else can confirm this with a similar set up please do so. Any help or input would be appreciated!!! I can post any pictures or info needed.

Hey guys, looking for some advice on building a Rendering Workstation. I have recently joined a small VFX team working out of Wellington New Zealand. I have been living and working with these guys for almost 2 years and have been building PCs for a while successfully. However I am stumped by a little problem at the moment, whether to go with a i7 5960X or Dual Xeon 2630V3? We are using programs such as Nuke, Adobe AfterEffects (with Element 3D), Cinema 4D as well as possibly some Maya 2015. Price is not really an object as the production budget will be covering this cost, however we would like to keep it below NZ$10000 to stay in good terms with the Director. Here are the parts lists for the two possible builds: Option A: http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/p/7fjgMp Option B: http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/p/dzRynQ Let me know what you guys think, should I go with the i7 or the Xeons? Are the Xeons worth the extra money for this work type? Or is there some other kind of solution that would be better?
-
So my friend is going to build a PC for Editing and Gaming purposes (And i will too soon since i'm taking the first basic courses of adobe after effects i'm starting to fall in love with the program already learned a lot of things) so we are both curious if the Xeon would perform well in games, because we already know they are slightly better than the i7 5960x when it comes to rendering, and 3D Modeling and works similar to these productivities. so what is the best CPU type for overall Editing and Overall is the i7? or Xeon?

Hey guys, so I'm currently planning a build for video editing and gaming. After about a month or so of research and looking around, I've decided to this build, my only questions are about the power supply and cooling - is there enough watts? Is the cooling going to keep the components at normal temperatures while on load (70-85 degrees celsius). I'm also debating between two cases. Here's the components list: Asus X99 Deluxe Intel Core i7 5960x G.SKILL Ripjaws4 DDR4 4x 8GB 2666MHz CL15 Black NZXT H440 Black & Blue OR Fractal Design R5 Titanium with Window Corsair Hydro Series H110 OR H100i Corsair SP120 Twin Pack ( x 2 ) Corsair 1200W Professional Platinum Samsung 850 Pro 1TB WD Black 2TB ( x2) Asus Geforce GTX Titan X 12GB ( x2 SLI) Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit ------------------------------------ I'm decided on the graphics card, processor, memory, ssd, storage, sofware, but I'm not sure about the fans, cooling and PSU. It would be very nice if somebody could help me out with the PSU and cooling.

Hello Linustechtips community, I've been running this system for a while now and so far so good. But being naked, it does catch dust. So far, i've been using the compressed air cans to blow them away but i'm looking for a more permanent solution. I'm posting here to garner comments on how i should go about it, and at the same time to thank SPOTSWOOD for building this custom workbench. So far the only idea i have is to make a cube of acrylic but i'm a little concerned about the air flow when it's place. Once i run out of space i'll be installing another 14 HDDs to fill up all the empty bays and that will in turn bring vibration and heat. Plus the flat surface at the top will be a nesting ground for dust. What do you guys think? Comments and critics are welcome! More images here. Its been a long wait for GTA V on PC. Ive done my best to hold out and only sucumbed to a few random plays at friends houses. I havent had my LG 34uc97 ultrawide monitor long but I was a bit worried about the fast pace of GTA and if I would get any screen tearing and motion blur. But it is amazing!!! 3rd person camera view is awesome on the ultra wide monitors. I guess the biggest helper is having only one GPU (Titan X) powering the 3440 x 1440p monitor. Im happy they took the time to get the game right. Gee, I'm going to clock some hours up on this beauty! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxjarI_T5lw

Hey guys ! I recently finished building my watercooled RIG and I got a few questions, which I please you to answer ! Okay, here's the config: i7 5960x on a Rampage V Extreme, SLI 980ti's watercooled on the following: 2 triple 140mm radiators from ek (those thick ones) with a push pull config and an d5 pump... Questions: 1) Should I worry about my coolant temperatures ? I saw on EKWB's website that it states that the max pump functioning temp should be 60* Celcius. In intense gaming at 1080 all settings maxed out (in games like gta v, metro last light) the cpu stays at a decent 40-45 degrees and the gpus at 30-35 each. I overlocked only the GPUs, let's say about 10 %. So, should I be worried about the coolant temperatures or they will be in the limit ? 2) What is the normal temperatures for the CPU and GPUs at IDLE in my config ? 3) What are the normal temperatures for gaming and stress testing for the CPU and GPUs in my config? Thanks alot for your help guys !

I do some gaming but mostly video editing and production with Adobe CC apps. Should I go with the X99 now or will Skylake have the same or better performance? Or is X99 still going to be Intel's enthusiast platform and Skylake "replacing" the Z97 chipset. I was looking up some videos on youtube about positive vs neutral vs negative airflow and the difference between regular and SP fans, however that got me thinking, does the ratio between intake fans and exhaust fans matter ? to put it into prospective I've got 7 air fans to be installed in my system. including 2 that comes with h100i liquid cooling CPU.
