My problem and use case are likely too niche for an easy solution, though I'll certainly accept one if presented. I'm also curious about how to diagnose this issue and what solutions or issues I may have overlooked. BLUF: Using two TVs as monitors. Powerful, modern GPU. 1st monitor displays correctly: 4K@120Hz. Windows will not offer refresh rates above 30Hz for the 2nd monitor no matter what resolution combination I pick (Currently at 4K@30Hz). Want to achieve 4K@120(1st monitor) and 4K@60(2nd monitor) Previous setup had 2 1080p TVs @60Hz without issue. Cable for second monitor is Displayport to HDMI but advertised at correct (4K@60Hz) speed. Glitches occur reliably unless a certain TV option is selected on 2nd monitor. Saw success for 4 days straight before returning to glitches. Trying to diagnose issue or find workable solution. Issue: Windows displays the second monitor at 4K 30Hz and will not offer the option to display my second monitor at 4K, 60Hz, no matter what framerate the primary monitor is set to. I'm trying to determine what combination of cables and settings will allow me to run my main monitor at 4K 120Hz and my second monitor at 4k 60Hz, or as close to that as possible, and why I can only do so sometimes. Relevant Setup info: GPU: AMD Radeon 6800 XT (specifically the Sapphire Nitro+ SE model) Monitor 1: Hisense 55U7G connected via HDMI (GPU) to HDMI (TV) Monitor 2: Hisense 50H8G connected via DP (GPU) to HDMI (TV) Insignia™ 10' DisplayPort to HDMI Cable Black NS-PCDPHD10 - Best Buy OS: Windows 10 Build 21H2 As my list indicates, my "monitors" are in fact smart TVs. I use them with the Wifi turned off because no one makes dumb TVs any more, especially not 4K ones. My PC serves as the entertainment center for my house and sees use for gaming as well as streaming and everything else. I sit on the couch instead of a computer chair and use two TVs instead of a desk + monitors. The two TVs only feature HDMI ports (rated at HDMI 2.0 for the secondary monitor and a mix of 2.1 and 2.0 for the primary) while my GPU features 1 HDMI port, 2 DVI ports, and a USB-C output. Both TVs, Windows, and Radeon all have the latest updates available. The connection between the GPU and Primary monitor works flawlessly. No questions asked 4K @ 120Hz. It's the second monitor, connected via DP to HDMI cable, that gives me issue. I have used the TV previously for displaying 4K @ 60Hz, so I know it is capable of doing so. Both of the TVs offer the option to switch between Standard and Enhanced HDMI formats, and this is where I begin to have problems. Primary Monitor requires enhanced HDMI format to move past 4K @60Hz. As such, I leave it on enhanced format and 4K @ 120Hz resolution in Windows. If the Secondary monitor has Enhanced HDMI mode selected, the computer suffers sever graphical issues, best described as hiccups or driver resets. Every few seconds the primary monitor will show a black screen and then show the correct display a moment later. While this occurs, the secondary monitor shows only a black screen. This problem goes away when I move the secondary monitor to "Standard HDMI" format. From there, Windows only offers 30 Hz refresh rates, no matter what resolution I select (4K, 1440p, 1080p, etc). Once the original crashes have been addressed, I can toggle the HDMI format back and forth on the secondary monitor, but Windows will not offer a 60Hz refresh rate. There was a 4-day period where the setup worked perfectly: 4K@120 on one TV, 4K@60 on the other. I thought I'd solved it. As of 20NOV the problems returned and nothing I can do seems to alleviate it so I am asking for help here. What am I doing wrong, and is there any hope or obvious solution to get things how I want them to be, and how they should theoretically be? I'll update this post with more information as requested.

Hey there folks. Recently bought a 4K display (LG C1 48 to be exact). Since I purchased the display, I have been having pretty sizeable issues playing games. Namely, games keep constantly freezing every 10 seconds or so. Goes down to one frame every 3 seconds, maybe? It's an issue regardless of if the game is fullscreen, windowed or borderless. But the weird thing is, it is fixed if you tab out, and then back into the game. Only for a few more seconds, mind, then it comes back again. This happens across pretty much all of my games, and has only started being an issue since I went 4K. I have a 3090 and 10850K, so I'm pretty sure it's not poor performance. That and when you hold down alt tab and see all your other windows, the game is running as usual. But as soon as I go back to it, it goes back to freezing. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you fix it (besides wiping Windows, which I really don't want to do)? Thanks in advance. (Running Windows 11 btw, though this wasn't an issue before the 4K shift) (Edit to add: Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place)

System is i5-10400 cpu 8 gigs ram, copied files from a windows machine onto a new drive and put it into this system. This system can play the 480p and 1080p videos flawlessly. But 4k stutters badly. Im also installing updates so that might fix it. I also am having issues with plug ins? Im new to this os, I know how windows works but not Linux. On very first video playback on the system it prompted a plug in download, I chose the default options until it started installing them. And, when I started the first 4k video it bugged me about subtle plug in i think. It doesn't show it again so I can't double check.

Hi there, My notebook is thinkpad x1 extreme gen3(10750h+gtx1650ti,single 16GB dram, 4k hdr builtin screen) . There are 2 type-c ports and 1hdmi port, and a 4k monitor is connected with a typec to dp cable(or hdmi2.0 cable). If both built-in screen and external screen are set to 4k60hz, the 3D usage rate of the igpu(intel uhd 630) is close to 100%, and then there will be frame drops and lag. If both are set to 1080p 60hz, it's ok, after checked the task manager, I found that both igpu and dgpu are working. Obviously, the outpur is rendered by 1650ti, and finally output by igpu to the external screen. Now I wonder if there is a way to connect the dgpu 1650ti directly to an external screen without going through the igpu. After checking the bios, there is no option to switch gpu for the typec port or hdmi port, please help! Thanks.

Hi, I have a dell XPS 7590 - i5 9300h, 1650, 64gb ram and 512SSD I have 1 HP Z27k G3 and I'm looking at buying another. What's the best way for me to use the two monitors? at the moment, i use 1 USB type c to my laptop. will it be as simple as using the HDMI for the 2nd monitor? Will the 2nd display be 4k 60hz ? Bit of a stupid question i know... but i'd rather check now before spending £400+ on a monitor Thanks, Ben

Budget (including currency): $7000 AUD Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games, Video Editing, and hobby 2d, 3d cad. Other details : Well Hi all. So I have got myself a NCASE M1 (still to be delivered but shipping this week). I have checked PCI LANES, clearance and many other things however I would like other peoples feed back on how they may setup. Listed is the current Parts below. I would like to be able to under-volt things to try help keep things cool. I have added a couple of Noctua fans to help lower the DB from the standard AIO water cooling fans. I also wanted one of these AORUS FO48U 48" monitors before Linus got himself a free one! Also considering de-shrouding the GPU and putting Noctua fans on it. so if you know of a GPU (NVIDIA?) that fits the M1 de-shrouded please let me know! I can through various websites save around $300 of the below price however currently seeing if mwave.com.au will just match price.

Budget (including currency): 15 000 USD Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Adobe Creative Suite (Primarily Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom). Up to 8 simultaneous 4K video-projects plus, at most, a handful of photo-projects. Other details: NAS: Synology RackStation RS3621xs+ SSD Cache: 2 x WD_BLACK 2TB SN750 M.2 adapter card: Synology M2D20 Hard drives: 12 x Seagate IronWolf Pro 14TB NIC: Synology E10G18-T2 dual 10GbE RAM: Synology D4EC-2400-16G Hello there! My colleagues and I are interested in upgrading our existent workflow. At the moment, we are storing what is being edited on separate machines with, essentially, only the final results being stored on a NAS (a Synology DS1618+). What we want to be able to do to do all of our editing on a NAS. We are quite pleased with our current Synology machine and would like to keep using something from them. This is because neither one of us feel that we have the know-how to administrate a custom built server. I have above listed some of the components I think would make it possible for us to do this. Does it look good to you? Are we going overkill with the SSD cache? Do you have any suggestions for things to change? Is it worth it to go for a higher tier model for future proofing so we don't have to upgrade in the next 5 years or so? Thank you in advance for all the help and advice! :)

So a ~16 minute video 4k 60fps, takes ~38 minutes to encode... is this normal for my cpu? (Seems mostly being used 90-100%) And it doesn't seem to matter what bitrate the videos are, 150000kbps takes roughly the same time as 30000kbps... doesn't make sense, to me at least... I'm using the preset called "vimeo youtube HQ 2160p60 4k" (because that gives best results) Idk... i just think that takes too long? Also if I set it to average bitrate, eg, 28000 it takes even longer (???) , even though the bitrate is actually *lower* compared to this preset which will generally generate around 50000 - 60000 kbps videos (and yes, i know that's theoretically too high, but quality wise it works well, and really the problem is if I lower the bitrate manually it takes "longer" roughly 1 hour for such a "16 minutes video") Seems kinda bugged? Edit: actually 60000 seems fine (not sure about the conversion)? But, I uploaded some videos with lower bitrate (around half that) and that actually looked fine, problem is it takes even longer to encode (for whatever reason)

Okay, so .. I am not rich, and I want to store movies, preferably at 4k. I have decided to go with M-Disc drives which supposedly last up to 1000 years (or more). My question is: How big is the difference between a ~5GiB movie, at 4k and between one that is that or lower, in 1080p? I guess a big difference.. but what between ~16GiB, ~25GiB and ~50GiB 4k movies? I wonder if HDR colors would still look good..

Hi all! I'm currently moving and am looking to buy a new TV for my place. I was hoping Linus had another TV review out but no luck. Here's a list of features I'd appreciate: 4k display Good HDR with deep black and hopefully no burn in (OLED) high refresh rate fast response time at least 65" VESA mountable built in smart features not necessary HDMI 2.1 capable I'm going to be using it mostly with my XBOX series X, I want to get the max possible refresh rate out of it to get its best experience. I also am connecting DirecTV and would like for it to work well with a PC in the future. My budget is about $2k but am willing to bend a little for certain features if worth it. Thanks for the help!! :)

Hi folks, I'm looking to ask the community for monitor recommendations that support PiP. In a perfect scenario, the monitor would support configuration via software. I'd also like the monitor to support at least 120Hz refresh @ 4K resolution. I'm currently rocking an LG 38WN75C-B, but the 60Hz refresh and lack of PiP is making me reconsider. I'm asking for PiP because I'd like to make it easy to view my work and personal PCs on a single display without linking the two PCs over the network. P.S. the recommendation doesn't have to be a curved monitor, but I certainly won't complain! Thanks in advance!

I'm currently looking at the Asus VP32UQ and trying to get some opinions. It's been difficult to find any reviews online (which is a bit of a red flag). If there are other recommendations, I'm looking for a good larger 4K IPS display (60hz is fine for me). Thanks!

Budget: 400-500 USD Usage: Development/programming/docker/k8s/vscode/pycharm, 4k streaming video (youtube/netflix) Other details: Current configuration: CPU: Ivy Bridge i7 3770K GPU: AMD Radeon R9 280X RAM: 4 x 4GB DDR3 RAM MB: ASRock z77 Pro3 PSU: 600W Dispaly: 2 x 4k monitors - 3840x2160 @ 60Hz Hey everyone, first time poster here. I'm planning on rebuilding my current PC which is a custom build Ivy bridge with a R9 280X and a 600W PSU. I don't game any more and use the system primarily for development (vscode/pycharm/docker/k8s) and occasional 4k streaming, i.e. youtube/netflix. I also have 2 4k monitors that the 280x is able to comfortably drive at 60Hz. Although as of late it is starting to struggle a bit when I'm multitasking. The system dual boots to Ubuntu and Windows, with the former being my daily driver (I rarely ever use windows these days). The only issue I have is that the legacy linux drivers for AMD cards prior to the RX series haven't been updated in a while, so the lack of optimization here does play a part in the degraded performance when compared to windows. As part of the rebuild process, my initial plan was to get a 3700X/B550/5500XT with a middle of the road (2800/3200) 16 GB RAM. But with GPUs being insanely priced and hard to get, I held back on the upgrade for half a year, thinking that supply would eventually pick up and prices would come back down. That obviously has not happened and doesn't look it will be anytime soon either. Honestly, at this point, I've just given up on the GPU upgrade. However, with the recent announcement of the 5700G, I started thinking of going the APU route and wait out the current GPU pricing/scarcity epidemic until later next year and see if the prices come back down to reasonable levels. Getting the 5700G would make the 280X redundant and selling the card at the current inflated prices would help me stay within my budget. At the end of the day, my goal is to have an upgraded system that can handle the load of the dual 4k displays @ 60Hz, run the development tools and stream media smoothly (along with TPM as a bonus - for windows 11). I'm working within a tight budget and want to reuse what I already have or sell and replace with an upgrade. Needless to say the pandemic hasn't helped at all even with non-GPU components. That said, I had a few questions: Would the 5700G be able to run dual 4k displays @ 60Hz? Moreover, would it run 4k video streams smoothly? If the above is true, does it even make sense to sell the 280X and replace it with the 5700G? i.e. do I just get a 3700X and a B550 like the ASUS Rog Strix B550-F and keep the 280X? (keeping in mind the legacy drivers on linux are still going to be a problem) If I go ahead with the 5700G, what low latency RAM would you recommend to compensate for the reduced L3 cache and performance hit as a result of it? (I'm looking for 2x8GB sticks for now) Upgrade components: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming/MAG B550 TOMAHAWK Low latency 16 GB RAM (3200)??? (Sell 280X) Hopefully that keeps me within the $400-$500 range.

Hey all, was looking at some options for 4k monitors to use with my PS5. With that in mind im not against buying a 60hz since the PS5 is capped anyway. I have a few on sale on Amazon that ive been looking at and was curious if there was one that stands out or if anyone has better recommendations.
