Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a 4770k. I know it's a little bit older, but it's newer than my AMD X6 Phenom II 1055T. Is $289 (AUSD) a reasonable price? Thanks in advance for your answers.

I have tried multiple times to overclock my intel I7-4770K processor on a Z87X-D3H mobo. I have updated my bios. I can change the values in the bios, like the multiplier, and they are remembered, but when I boot into windows and check my CPU frequency, it is unchanged. How do I fix this? EDIT: Cinebench and OCCT do NOT increase my frequency, it stays at 3.5GhZ EDIT 2: When I press apply, the button does not grey out, it also doesnt give Amy other sign that the settings are saved. The on/off slider next tot CPU multiplier doesn't stay on after reboot, even after pressing apply.

Hello guys, I have a question. I've built a pc for a friend of mine and he wants to upload videos to Youtube. My question is, how do I overclock the i7 4770K to get the videos rendered faster? PC Specs: -ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 -i7 4770K (stock @ 3,5GHz. Temps are around 35 degrees celcius) watercooled by a Corsair H90 -16GB Corsair @ 1866MHz (I've seen that it's clocked at 1333MHz in the BIOS) -ASUS Strix Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 -2 TB WD Red

Hey guys, I'm new here and I apologize if this topic is posted somewhere else or already answered. Also I should add I'm a tech noob so be gentle . So I built my own rig a few years ago and I recently downloaded HWMonitor & CPU-Z and took a look at my temps and it kind of got me worried. I feel like my CPU is running pretty hot under moderate stress..I didn't run a benchmark or anything because I don't play much on this PC other than BF4 and some WoW nor overclock anything. The numbers below are from moderate stress in a high intensive area in the game under max settings in World of Warcraft. GFX is a R9270X 4gb. Are these numbers semi-normal or are my cpu temps way too high?

My 4770k @ 4.3GHs and 1.25V and idle temps at 45-50C with room temp at 30C. Is that ok?

Hi guys, I think i'm gonna delid my 4770k, but i came up with a doubt: the thermal paste on the core should be spread all over the cpu or i should leave it as a grain of rice? I think that way should have less chances for air bubbles to remain in there, but it will probabily go on the pcb and on the little pieces of metal near the cpu... Is that dangerous? Does the thermal paste conduct electricity? Thanks, EMENCII

This is my first PC build and I have never overclocked before, I watched the haswell overclocking guide by Linus, I still feel I need a bit more help though. My specs are the following Corsair CX600M i7-4770k 16GB Kingston HyperX Blu 1600Mhz ASUS Z97-PRO ASUS GTX 770 DC2OC 1TB WD Blue NH-D15 1 fan, (the second would not fit) Some question I have are, How long should I validate my final overclock? How long should I validate my incremental steps? What method should I take at overclocking (e.g quick and dirty first)? Who much voltage is too much, when will the voltage start to bring the lifespan of the CPU down? When I do validate what should I validate at the same time in AIDA64 (e.g CPU,FPU,Cache and GPU)? And any recommendations you have Thanks for the help, I am just a bit anxious I am going to kill my CPU, it was not cheap EDIT: Also forgot to add, what increments in voltage should I go up and down?

Hello respectable PC geeks, I guess this is a no-brainer question but I am not quite sure or convinced about its answer. I am going to build a new Rig for my gaming sessions and I would like to get a straight thoughtfull answer.. Intel Core i5 4460 (or higher model) of AMD FX- xxxx ? I am going to play all games mostly 1080p but my favorite ones are CS:GO and BF4. I already ordered my R9 270 OC from Asus which is enough for my build. On Mobo and RAM thingy I will go with MSI Gaming 3 (if Intel CPU) or Asrock 990FX Killer (If AMD) as for RAM KINGSTON HX316C10FK2/8 8GB I think will do just fine (16 Gig i think is too much). PSU-wise I will go with a 600W Antec 80+ Bronze is fine.. for single GPU no overclock. Overclocking yes, here is my next question. I am not gonna overclock cause i dont see the point of it if you dont have an i7 or something.. Does this mean i should drop the AMD? I have read thousands of reviews and threads cause of this dilemma. In all of them they say buy the i5 they dont specify enough tho... Yes I know Intel CPU's are single core optimized and yes i know most games use 2 except BF4 and Far Cry 4? i think, but would it be bad the other games such as CS:GO which is my favourite to be running worse with the AMD and better with the Intel? I dont even know guys.. I am confused head over heels... Help me cause I am THIS FRIKIN CLOSE to abandon the whole project... Waiting for your answers, Thank you for the time you spent reading my shit.. I will award you all with a photo when/if I set it up! 5 Days till X-MAS

Hi, I've overclocked my CPU to 4.2GHz at 1.2V but I want to get a little more maybe 4.5GHz and I was wondering what voltage I should be looking at around that OC, I have H100i cooler. I know every chip is different but I would like just a rough estimate of the voltage required as I've heard a lot of people say I've not to go above 1.3V for 22nm chips? I was hoping someone could shed some light on this topic for me. Thanks.

Hi guys, has been a while now, but doubts get worse the more time i think of it... My 4770k ocs to 4.1Ghz at 1.295v... (I've set the cache to 4.0Ghz at 1.25v, and vengeance ram 1640Mhz cas9, BCLK 102.5, maxzimus vi hero) and i keep seeing people going easily to 4.5, 4.7Ghz... Have i done sth wrong? What i did in the bios was: set the AI oc tuner to manual, set the bclk to 102.5Mhz, cpu core ratio to 39, cache min 8 max 38, ram freq to 1640Mhz, extreme tweaking enabled, cas latency 9-9-9-24-2 (as vendor says), integrated fault manager disabled, cpu voltage adaptive 1.295v, cache voltage adaptive 1.25v, cpu spread spectrum disabled... Im using one screen on the gtx780, so cpu's graphics are not used... Did i have bad luck and a bad chip or is sth else the problem? I've seen many ocing to 4.5Ghz at 1.3v... Thanks, EMENCII

Hey all just been doing some overclocking on my 4770k so far im @ 4.7ghz i needed to use 1.4v to get there but been stable for over 5 hours using Aida64 with temps hovering around 70 degrees (will be testing for longer) I been doing so much reading on ocing these cpu's and every different page i go on it says something different for example some say don't go past 1.3!!! and some say 1.45 is max...? So my question is... will my cpu be ok at 1.4v aslong as the temps stay at 70 degrees? fyi i have tried lowering volts down but 1.4 seems to be the sweet spot @ 4.7 for my cpu pc specs are in sig if your wondering

Hi guys, So I've come to the conclusion that I want to delid my cpu. Why? Mostly because I've been watching delidding videos and everyone seems to be getting great results with their temps afterwards. I wish that upon my cpu too So just wanted to be sure, I have Arctic Silver 5 that I used to mount my cpu to my h100i.. but can I also use this thermal paste for the processor itself to replace the thermal paste inside the cpu? And if anyone has any other tips I'm open to any suggestions because it will be my first time to delid. Thanks!

Hi, I'm trying to decide which Haswell chip I should get, and I need help. My main use for my PC in going to be gaming, game recording, video recording, and video editing. I am going to have a GTX780 for a graphics card, and I want to know what would be the best CPU to go with it. I know that for strictly gaming a 4670K is probably the right choice, but since I'm going to be doing video editing, rendering, and trans-coding, should I get a better CPU to handle that, instead of using the GPU to do that work? My planned motherboard is an ASUS Sabertooth Z87. I DO NOT have a specific budget. Any hep would be greatly appreciated.

I am confused about whether or not this cpu can support vmware with a fully functional OS like Linux running in windows. Does anyone have this type of setup?

I've built a few middle of the road computers in the past but decided I wanted a high end computer after a break from computers and games for several years. I love my Thinkpad T420 but it just wasn't enough. I bought all the parts in the month leading up to the haswell release, trying to find the best prices as it's a pretty expensive set up. It was a painful wait for the CPU and motherboard as I had most of the parts 2 weeks before they were released. Here's the list The case: Lian Li PC-P80N - I saw this on ebay brand new in a damaged box and had to bid. I was planning to spend around £100 on a case but ended up getting this for £120. I'm very happy! It has 3x 140mm intake fans built into the front door, 2x 140mm exhaust at the top and 1x 120mm exhaust at the back. The fan controller has one knob to control all 5 140mm fans. CPU: Intel 4770K Cooler: Noctua NH-U12P SE2 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H RAM: 16GB Corsair VengeanceLP 1600 SSD: Samsung 256GB 840Pro Graphics: Gigabyte GTX Titan PSU: Corsair AX860 As you can see I've chosen to go quite minimalist and intentionally avoided moving parts. As I said I've made a few computers in the past and ran into my fair share of problems and failures. I was determined to avoid them as much as possible so went for the best power supply I could find and no optical/hdd. The only thing that moves in my case are the fans. The side panel is off in this photo, letting in sunlight. The rest: BenQ XL2411T: I'm happy with the monitor, though the first one had over 10 dead pixels. It went straight back to amazon. The replacement has none. I bought it mainly for 144Hz mode though I do use and enjoy 3D vision for a few select games. Cherry Stream XT keyboard: Seems really nice so far. Wanted something better than a £5 keyboard but nothing too expensive. Nice laptop-like feel. Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000: I bought this in 2006 and don't want to replace it. Ever. Optical drive: Samsung SE208DB: I didn't want an internal drive as I wanted no moving parts so went for this as I knew I would hardly ever use it. No complaints. XBox 360 controller: I sold my wireless controllers and all my 360 games as PC gaming is the way forward. (And I didn't want to buy the thing to allow the wireless 360 controllers to work). The sound: This get's it's own section as I love music and have been an audiophile for many years. I don't use a soundcard, they're pointless, especially for a set up like this. I run an optical cable from the PC to a Firestone Audio Spitfire MkII DAC with dedicated power supply, this then connects to a NAD C350 Amp (for speakers) and passes that signal through to an Objective2 Headphone amp based on NwAvGuys designs and made by Epiphany Acoustics. This powers a pair of AKG K701 headphones. The NAD is a good quality integrated amp I've owned for at least 10 years and powers bookshelf speakers for music and general use. The headphones are always used for gaming. This sound setup is mind blowing and I recommend anyone wanting more immersion and enjoyment from games to invest in an external DAC and amp and some good headphones; and personally I would avoid gaming brands for all of these things. Microphone is a Samson Go mic, a cheap condenser mic and the cheapest I could find that's actually high quality enough for recording. Over all I'm very happy with the build. The computer runs great with win8pro but I will be adding a second SSD at some point to run linux as that's what I run on my thinkpad. I was nervous about getting Windows 8 as I haven't tried it but it didn't make much sense to buy an old version of Windows. I've found the best way to deal with the home screen is to right click and remove every single icon on the home screen except for "desktop". Then when logging in I just hit enter twice after typing my password and don't even notice the home screen. The boot up time is insane, I press the power button and by the time my monitor auto-turns on it's sitting at desktop waiting for my password, I never see any of the boot up sequence. Games obviously run very nicely, I know some parts of this build are overkill but I wanted to treat myself. It also runs very cool. The temperature outside here in the UK this week has been always over 30 celsius. Ambient temperature in this room has been 30 at times. I haven't monitored it very closely but I've checked it most days and never seen the CPU hotter than about 38C under light use, and on a cooler day I've seen it at 26C under light use. It doesn't get much above 40 for general use. I've never seen the CPU get above 65C under any circumstances (modded, demanding games at ultra settings while running HWMonitor). It also runs very quiet. With the fan controller turned all the way down it runs cool enough even on the hottest day while gaming. It's hard to tell it's on without LEDs lighting up. I know it's not the best looking build but it's minimalist, no LEDs, no bling look is what I like. Ian

I know this question has probably been beaten to death already, but what would be the best AIO cooler for about 100 bucks? My case accepts double 120mm/140mm or triple 120mm/140mm. Looking to cool my i7 4770k so I can overclock to about 4.5-4.6Ghz. Mainly looking for the coolest temperature. I was looking at the Swiftech H220 because I heard it has the best performance, but does anyone else have a different recommendation?
