gigabyte Help Gigabyte z97x gaming g1 issue
j321123123 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I had upgrade my motherboard from Asus z87 pro to Gigabyte z97x gaming g1 about 8 months now (use with i7 4770k). At first the mobo work perfect without any issue after 6 months it still seem great, then one day I left for winter vacation for about a month after I get back mobo doesn't respond no led indicate even the day I left it still doing great. It dead some how without using for a month then I send back for repair after 2 weeks I get it back, mobo respond perfect. I assemble and boot there is no problem except pci-e adapter it doesn' detect the third GPU (I think it may cause by PLX that doesn't have in asus mobo while I switch back during repair). I update windows then every fix ready to use. Something begin to happen after I try to play game. At first the game sudden quit some how after 10 min then I think it may software issue because i swap mobo. I re-install windows then I try again game still sudden quit and freeze. I try delete the game and re install it still happen. After I try again pc freeze I have to force restart. I try test benchmark, result is same as playing game. It sudden not respond sometime freeze sometime BSOD. PC able to post boot, browse internet, daily use is fine, but doing thing intense it freak me out.Playing game = freeze, not respond, sudden quit, BSODHeaven Benchmark 4.0 = freeze, not respond, BSODAida64 = freeze, not respond, BSOD, warning; hardware fail detected! stop test with in 1-5 minI send it back again for repair. this time quite fast i get it back after a week wonder do they fix anything. I assemble and try so far so good then open Heaven Benchmark 4.0......LOL not again!! still the same. I contact them and tell the problem they give me solution it doesn't fix.If everything fix well with clean install software then BIOS i think. After repair mobo they install the latest version which protect from downgade. What I wonder is Bios because I cant downgrade. I use i7 4770k, the time brought the mobo i cant remember the bios version but i guess it is F7 according date release. While repairing i use the old asus z87 pro there is no problem ( Same Hardware )Anyone have any idea about this Issue? Thanks, -
I got a pretty strong PC (by the time of course) about 2 years ago. 4770K with Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme, Asus Maximus VII Hero, CORSAIR 16GB Vengeance Pro DDR3 2133MHz CL9 kit are the relevant parts. As soon as I got it running I knew my 4770K was terrible. I don't consider myself an overclock pro and I pretty much do everything in this regard by going through guides carefully but I think I managed to decently understand what I should realistically expect from Haswell. And boy was I wrong. I can't get a stable 4.3 GHz overclock with around 1.35-1.37V core voltage. 4.2 is the most I can do with these voltages and even with 4.2 my temps are not that good considering my cooler. I've been dealing with this for the last 2 years but by now I'm really angry and also curious: Did I just absolutely lose the silicon lottery? Does anyone else have a 4770K this terrible of an overclocker or should I try to set a Guinness World Record with this?

Hello guys, I was able to get a 4770k for 200 - (I was debating on either skylake i7 or haswell, but 200 seemed like a good deal, as I have extra ddr3) I bought the asrock motherboard, as I needed m.2 support. Now this is a 3rd tier motherboard, so please keep that in mind. The original owner was able to get 4.8 stable - not sure which motherboard he used, but it certainly is in the realm of possibility as I was able to get 4.7 stable at 1.3-1.33v on a cheaper z97 board. Now since this is in a Hadron Air, cooled by an h60 (120mm rad), the temps/sound at 4.7 was a bit too much while at load (prime 95 26.6 i think). So i settled for 4.4 @1.2v, however my question is (as I have only used asus boards in the past and I can't seem to find too much information, nor do I know what to search) How do you allow the CPU to downclock and downvolt so it isn't running 4.4 all the time and so it is not at 1.2v all the time. I followed http://overclocking.guide/z97-pro-4/ Happy Holidays HL (also I am very tempted to swap this out with my 4790k.... )

I had been having trouble for a while with my 4770K getting hot, nothing immediately damaging to the CPU, but too hot for normal use encoding video. My temps were always idling around 35-40C, and under full load, I was topping out around 89-90C. I even delidded my CPU, but this didn't really help much, even after trying a couple different thermal compounds under the IHS, but to negligible temp differences. I saw Linus do a video on Cool Laboratory: Liquid Ultra, and thought about giving it a try. After getting it from Amazon (~$14 for the Liquid Pro at the time), I applied it directly to the CPU die under the IHS, and then between the IHS and waterblock (EK Supremacy, 3x140 thick rad). I crossed my fingers that my CPU wouldn't fry from any inadvertent metal contact, and booted my system. Holy BALLS! My temps while idle are 20-25C, and under load are not passing 50C! It works so well that I have bumped my OC to 4.3GHz, stable. I plan to see just what I can squeeze out of it before having to adjust voltage. If anyone knows details about changing voltage, and best practices when doing so, please let me know. And if you have any questions, ask me and I will try to keep up on this thread to reply.

Hello LinusTechTips. I had a overclocked i7-4770K from 3.5GHz to 4.0GHz, but I didn't know that much that everything resets in BIOS when I got my new RAM. So I know have my 3.5GHz again and I know nothing about overclocking and therefore I want your help My setup: Processor: i7-4770K Motherboard: MSI Z87-G43 GAMING Killer NIC Military Class III RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400MHz Graphic Card: Asus GTX 780 That is basically my system. Is there any chance for that you can help me to get back my 4.0GHz ? And maybe I can learn something more about pc and overclocking!

I posted a while ago, asking for help with my overclock, was able to get it stable at 4.4GHz, but have recently had to reduce it to 4.3GHz due to instability. I've seen all the guides, and read through most of them, just looking for someone who actually has this combo who can provide their settings so I have a reference, on how to push my overclock higher. Thanks, EDIT: Results. VCore @ 1.3v Achieved 4.6GHz, AIDA64 Max Temp after 1.15.00 was 89c. Should be fine for every day use and gaming, though I reckon Prime95 would crash it. EDIT 2: Above overclock passed AIDA64 for an 1.15.00, however crashed The Witcher 3 twice. Overclock was reduced to 4.5GHz, voltage at 1.28v, and will increase by 0.1 if I get any more crashes.

Hi everyone. I currently have 2 4770k CPU but not sure which one to keep. I managed to overclock both of them and test. Here are the results CPU1 Cores all at 4.5Ghz core voltage 1.38 cache voltage auto CPU input voltage auto (1.77) CPU2 Cores all at 4.5Ghz core voltage 1.35 cache voltage 1.1 CPU input voltage 1.95 I couldn't get either CPU to go to 4.6GHz under 1.4 voltage. I'm not sure which one to keep. Anyone has any tips? Thanks EDIT: Does input voltage have effect on temperatures? Seems like people are recommending me to keep the 1.35 voltage one. I'm just so surprised that the first chip doesn't need any cache voltage or input voltage tuning. They seem to have no effect. Does anyone have a theory why?

I know this has probably been asked a million times already but... What are the best 280mm rads for the Corsair Graphite 760T. I'm don't know if I want to do push or push and pull, that will depend on how much space there is in the case with the rads. I've decided on the BitFenix Spectre LED PWM Blue 140mm fans, as they are quiet and have a decent static pressure for 140mm LED fans. This will be cooling a 4770K (I got unlucky with this one, it runs 80 - 85C with Prime95 after only 15 mins) which I'll be delidding soon and a Titan X. Any help would be appreciated as I've never done a custom loop before.

Hi, so I've been doing same overclocking today, and im really disappointed with the results, its just strange. Maximum I can get is 4.2GHz at 1.275V, it boots up, but doesn't survive the Intel Burn test, nor Prime95.. Its set to Manual voltage mode.It gets past 80°C and crashes.. It wont survive even less, I have to run it on stock 3.9GHz which pushes it to 1.28V according to CPU-Z, everything on Auto in BIOS, to survive the Burn test and it still gets to 75°C I am on ASUS Maximus VII Hero (latest bios) and I have H100i cooler and Patriot Black Mamba 1600MHz RAM. Is it possible that the CPU is really that bad piece or could the problem be somewhere else? I've heard that even bad pieces should be able to get at least 4.2GHz.. Thanks

I want to build a PC for gaming, but I am usure which CPU is best for my build, intel's 4770k or the 4790K CPU? I am in no rush for an answer but my i would like the best CPU for my money, and I have heard that the 4770k is faster anyway.... So I would like your opinions please! Thanks in advance!

Hi Guys and Gals, So over the last few months I've been having a serious issue with my PC and can't seem to isolate the issue. Basically, my PC shuts down (completely looses power) without warning or BSOD after 30 minutes of being on. I have check windows event viewer and couldn't see anything out of the ordinary I've run various tests on individual components with no luck. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. So far I have: Replaced the PSU Stress tested CPU, GPU and Ram. Programs used, Furmark, OCCT and Mem Test (Temps were in a normal range) Tested PC withiout GPU, using built in MoBo graphics Left running in Bios mode Replaced Cmos Battery I know I probably haven't done as much as the average nerd would but I'm still fairly new to the custom build world. Specs: GPU: Gigabyte GV-N760OC-4GD CPU: Intel 4770K PSU: 650W Cooler Master V-Series 650S Gold MoBo: Asus Maximus VI Impact Cooling: Cooler Master Seidon 120XL Water Cooling Kit RAM: 2x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 1600MHz DDR3 Ram

Ok so just today my 4770k started to drop in performance. This was apparent during many games GW2, PS2 and CSGO. So i went ahead and started the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and found out my CPU was only running at 0.8 GHz. I've had CPU problems before however that was due to my ignorance on overclocking and was fixed with a new cooler. My 4770k should be running at 4 GHz. Help would be awesome and here is what the Diagnostic Tool spat at me. EDIT : Just Checked power options and it was not a problem related to that. Both min and max is set to 100%. I have decided to do some kind of IHS mod, as my 4770K is running way hotter than it should. The question is, should I get completely rid of the IHS, or should I just clean away the old glue and thermal paste, apply new paste and put the IHS back on top? Completely getting rid of the IHS would probably drop the temp down a couple degrees I guess, but is it worth it? (or is it even possible)

So my 4770k temps using an nh-d15 aren't particularly bad, especially when I turn up the fans. They generally are around 55C-ish under load so I feel like I haven't too much to complain about. The thing that irks me is how the temps can't seem to 'settle' down. They always jump down from 52 to 57c under load, never staying for longer than a second or 2 max. This also occurs when my pc is idling. Will an AIO set be able to stabilize this or do I have one of the (less) 'dodgy' 4770ks? I have a HAF Stacker so I have tons of room for radiators.

Hey there guys, recently my H100i's pump stopped working so I've had to switch back to the stock cooler for the time being. After doing this I was looking at CPU temperatures and they seemed a little high so I'm wondering if I've done something wrong down the line. The CPU is at stock clock speeds, so 3.9MHz, and the idle temps are around 47-50, and reaching up to 80 when playing some games. This seems a little high to me. The voltage is also at 1.2v, I'm not sure if that's normal for stock setting. Could it be my thermal paste? Not sure if the case I'm using has anything to do with it but it's the H440 from NZXT. Sorry If i'm asking some silly questions, CPU management has never been my strong suit. Thanks a lot! - Feyris

Greetings, I have recently overclocked my 4770k, for the 1st time ever and I used the msi OC Genie to do so. I am a little disappointed with the OC, I gained an massive .2Ghz increasing the clock from 3.5 to 3.7GHz. My understanding of Genie, is that it "looks" at your system and comes up with the best efficient overclock available(?) I suppose the question I am asking is, has anyone out there significantly overclocked their 4770k on mini ITX board and got stable results? There is plenty of tutorials to OC CPUs on "full" gaming boards but very little in the way of mini ITX's Thanks in advance. Dread

So I'm building sort of a budget build for about $500-$600 and my friend is selling me his old GeForce GTX 780 WindForce cards (2 cards) from Gigabtye, in almost new condition, for $75 each ($150 total) because he upgraded to 980s in SLI (he's sort of rich). In my build I'm planning on using a Pentium G3258 for my processor temporarily until I can afford a 4770k or 4790k and then using the Pentium for a mini-itx media PC build. I just wanted to know if the Pentium will bottleneck the 780s to a point where they're not usable and if it's a worthy investment. Also I would like to know if it's better to buy one 780 and then using the extra $75 to buy a better CPU. I'm up to any suggestions for the build in general as well . Here is a link to the parts for build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zQ2tsY Here is a write-up as well: CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor ($64.98 @ OutletPC) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($28.75 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($126.99 @ Amazon) Memory: Kingston Fury White Series 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($36.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Apotop 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($59.99 @ Newegg) +1tb Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm Hard Drive (Already Have) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 3GB WINDFORCE Video Card (2-Way SLI) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 3GB WINDFORCE Video Card (2-Way SLI) Case: NZXT S340 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case ($67.99 @ SuperBiiz) Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($81.98 @ Newegg) Total: $467.67 + $150 for video cards = $617.67

Guyz, SUGGEST me a good motherboard for i7 4770K which can run for next 5 years It should be under 10K INR. (Indian Currency) Also I wont OC the CPU and will be using stock cooler. Right Now I wont even put a graphic card since this not being used for gaming but visualization. Rest Ill be using 8x1 DDR3 RAM with stock fan and Corsair vs450 W. Let me know which Mobo will be good and have strong reliability. Also Do I need SSD to install my Winows 8.1 Pro over it or Normal HDD would do. ? FYI, visualization might have good I/O over the disk

While reading about the 4770k i stumbled upon this paragraph "You can always use OpenCL and code against the HD 4600 graphics OpenCL allows you to utilize the graphics processor to do non-graphics related activities(GPGPU is vernacular) The graphics processor used can be a discrete card or it can be integrated in the CPU." Any idea how much someone would benefit from this and how it can be done ?

Hey! I knew about the gtx 970 memory issue. I bought 1 gtx 970 three weeks ago and i have in mind to add another 970 but, would it still have the 3.5GB limitation even with two cards? Hey guys! My i7-4770k randomly drops to between 700-1500MHz and I don't know why! I have a Kraken x61 and the cpu sits at 35-40 degrees most of the time so temps aren't a problem. I haven't messed with the clock speeds or voltages. Might be a stupid question but I'm not sure about this: Do chips underclock themselves when the speed isn't needed? If so that might be the reason. But the problem is that the power is needed because when the clock drops it makes twitch streams buffer all the time (and no it isn't my internet, I have 100 down; it only happens when the clock speed drops). I don't know what to do! If I overclock my chip a bit would that make it keep a steady clock speed instead of jumping around like the default speeds do? Thanks for any and all help!

HI there, i`m having an argument with a friend that has strange very very low idle voltages on his CPU. As you can see in this post he has 0.024 V reported by CPU-Z, is this really possible on desktop CPUs to idle at this voltage? I`m just assuming that it`s a sensor bug reporting such a low voltage, while he brags about it being his smart choice of hardware that made this possible.

MSI Z97-G43 GAMING and Core-i7 4790k ?
CoolDown2015 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hey guys, i just bought an MSI Z97-G43 GAMING motherboard, and now I'm looking for the CPU. I'm considering only one of the follow CPUs: i7-4770k i74790* i74790k* My problem is that, aparently the 4790* and the 4790k* are both Haswell Refresh models, which is OK, because the motherboard supports them, however I may have to update the bios(that they ship the board with) to a newer version, which i can download from their website. the problem is i don't have a intel cpu to use to boot the board in to the bios so i can update from a usb drive, or is it required for this board ? not only that, but when i look at the needed bios version for those 2 CPUs on the intel's ark webpage(click here), it says my board needs bios v13.0 (7816vD0.zip) to work. (which i don't know if it is the "default-shipped version of the bios, since it is available for download at the msi support page as "New BIOS Release"), but on the msi support webpage for my board(click here), it says i need version v13.1 (7816vD1.zip, click here) (if you simulate download of the bios version it says whether it is "7816vD0.zip" or "7816vD1.zip" on the file). So, does this motherboard supports the 4790k out of the box, no bios update needed ? or is it possible to update using M-Flash (pen drive, i've seen how-to) without a CPU on the socket ? Please reply ASAP, my mind is exploding with all the misinformation. Yuri.
