Had this issue for a while now, but now it has really gotten me on my nerves. DirectX 10/11/12 crashes in almost every game I have except CS:GO. The card I have is EVGA's GTX 1080Ti F.ED, using 4 screens. One for gaming 165Hz 2.5K Res, one 10-bpc 2.5K 60Hz monitor, and two 1920x1080 monitors at 60Hz. Backed up by i7-6850K, Deluxe X99-II and 32 GB Corsair Vengeance running 2133Hz (it's originally suppose to run at 3200). I have updated graphic card drivers, updated DirectX and tried repair. I do not use any program for overclocking or monitoring. Removed those when I had some other issues a while back. The card shouldn't be that hot either. The room was cold and I literally just started the computer up and went in to BF1 and continued campaign. 8–10 minutes in it crashes. All settings on low didn't work, then I tried to optimize through Nvidias GeForce Experience thing and it too set it to some low settings. Still don't notice any difference. This is so fustrating, I have no idea what to do to fix it. Any ideas?

I am remembering an episode of LTT where he designed that rack mountable case, and i'd like to know what software he used to design it. I remember of a few shots of the computer screen showing a program with the inside of the case and some parts. I am thinking of designing my own case, and would like to take a crack at designing it.

Hey , i am upgrading my rig for animation but i am a little confused i currently have 2 system in mind . 1st CPU - AMD TR 1920X Mobo - cheapest x399 i can find Ram - 32 bb ddr4 32 MHz or higher cooler - corsair h100iv2 2nd CPU - R7 1700 Mobo - asrock taichi x370 or a b350 that is capable of a good overclock Ram - 32 GB ddr4 3200 MHz or higher cooler - noctua NH d15 or corsair h100iv2 I currently have GTX 970 128 gig SSD 750W psu 4 TB worth of SATA drives for mass storage Now the problem is if i buy the 2nd system i can add a GTX 1080 or a GTX 1080 ti to the system and some other stuff but if i buy the 1st system ill have to do with the 970 i currently own i wont be able to upgrade anytime soon so witch system would be better for animation. i do play games but animation is my priority. I use MAYA ,Z brush, 3ds MAX, After effects, marvelous Designer.(you get the idea 3d stuff) so which one should i go for TR with a 970 or 1700 with a 1080 or 1080 ti or you have any other recomendations

Hello fellow amphibious air vehicles! Let's start a traitorous riot and demand that sweat, syrup-ey knowledge pretaining to the existance, creation, theory, and general pheasability/usability/current tech of a display capable of showing two separate media streams to a set of glasses distinguished a and b!! Like for real you guys, are there polarizing filters baked into the scream itself? Is there a way to do this through picture manipulation like old school 3d?? Do sprites enter your ear canal and softly whisper the essence of content into your ear?!? WOULD YOU NEED TWO SEPERATE PROCESSING UNITS?!?!?! Sorry guys, that last question was a bit left field, anyway if we could start a discussion on how this is achieved, or even spark up a new LTT flight, that would really rev my engine. I'm building a sort of entry level workstation with some rendering power, Ill be using it for 3d modelling, rendering, illustration. I'm hardware-naive as i work usually just on the software side, so i did some research to put this together but i might very well be missing the point on some parts! most of the rendering is usually done on the GPU but since threadripper is such good bang for buck i tought it would be a good idea to have a lot of cores added! afterall there are some case scenarios where you need to render on cpu and or do some video editing. Here is my parts list from my local shop (based in switzerland): https://www.digitec.ch/en/ShopList/Show?listmode=true&shopListId=B5874D320B2411F1FDDE62007D69A62D#listhead heres the part list as text: CPU: AMD Threadripper 1950X (TR4, 3.40GHz, Unlocked) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 (16.50cm) MOBO: AsRock X399 Taichi (TR4, AMD X399, ATX) RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX (4x, 16GB, DDR4-3600, DIMM 288) PSU: Corsair HX1200 (1200W) GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti STRIX 11G-GAMING (11GB, High End) HD: Seagate BarraCuda (3000GB, 3.5", Desktop) M.2: Samsung 960 PRO (512GB, M.2 2280) CASE: Corsair Obsidian 750D Airflow Edition (Full tower) Id be grateful if anyone could double proof this and share his toughts

Hello guys ! A friend of mine wants to build a new PC for 4K 3D with last high-end technologies. He also wants to do Blu-Ray encoding/decoding and wants the must powerfull CPU on market atm. So I prepared this PC : https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Cz3hhq But my problem is that I've no idea if the SLI of 1080 TI will support a monitor/TV with the nvidia 3D kit with 4K resolution. He also plans wants to be already equiped for the 8K 3D ( thourgh nvidia 3D kit also ). Same, I've no Idea if the SLI provides enough power to sustain it. Not sure if he will game with it, but I'm barelly sure he will not. Can someone there give me some tips for the graphic cards and the power they can deliver ? Thanks !

Being a Mac guy (helping out a friend) and venturing into the water of Windows machines I am leery of buying a prebuilt machine. That being said, I am not sure the work load requires going through the trouble of building from scratch. AutoDesk says the system requirements for CAD & Revit are basically, "Highest affordable CPU speed rating recommended" and the RAM needs to be no less than 4GB. The video card is more specific. They only list 5 cards that are "Certified" to work with this version of Revit. AMD Radeon Pro WX 2100 AMD Radeon Pro WX 3100 Radeon Pro WX 4100 Radeon Pro WX 5100 Radeon Pro WX 7100 Beyond that, the standard stuff would be needed, 250GB SSD, maybe a 1TB second drive. Any ideas on a prebuilt machine with one of those video cards? Or a build list to make one? Budget for either must be at or below $1300

So my $400 Toshiba laptop isn't cutting it anymore for me but I am extremely busy with school and other things that if I got a job I wouldn't be able to use this computer for 5 minutes once I got a decent one so I planned out a budget rig for me to eventually afford and am fairly happy with it. I plan on doing 1080p video editing including advanced Visual Effects (Like thunderbolts and laser type things), I plan on designing games with Unreal Engine 4, I plan on doing 3d Modeling, Animating, and Rending with Blender on this PC as well. I was wanting to know what you guys thought of it and I will only accept responses as usable if they only go within $820 more or less because I still need a monitor and OS to come with it. Also please don't give me any responses that may reduce my performance in Blender/UE4 for an SSD or another memory stick or something similar I plan on upgrading in the future. I might overclock it eventually if I get a different CPU cooler so keep that in mind so here is my build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KzR7tJ Thank you!

Hi, I would like to learn how to 3D model for 3D printing. I have always wanted to print something that I have made. Unfortunately, I am absolutely clueless in this area. I am asking for help finding a program that is intuitive and easy(ish) for beginners to learn. Also, I am taking this up as a hobby and I would prefer to not spend any money on this until I am confident in my abilities. So, I would very much appreciate a free program that I can play around with for the time being. Thank you, JT

I was looking to try printing wood filament (MGChemicals). I have a Monoprice Maker Select V2 with stock everything. I know that wood filament is very abrasive and I was going to upgrade the brass nozzle. I plan on buying it off of amazon. Highlubricity makes a nozzle that is 0.6mm (People recommend .5+ for wood), but as far as I can tell, it is brass with a nickel plating. https://www.amazon.com/High-Lubricity-Resistant-Nozzle-Upgrade/dp/B00ZMX... Is nickel plating as good as stainless steel? Has anyone used MGChemicals wood pla?

Hi guys, I was looking and admiring my new pc and I saw that the PCB of graphics card is a little bit "bend" so I google about it and find that it is called GPU sagging and I wanna know is that a problem. Even if it is not I wanna do some 3d printed figure to hold the end of gpu. My graphics card is Gigabyte GTX 1060 xtreme gaming (it is huge). So guys can u give me an idea about that and advice. It would be better when i wouldn't need printing a gpu holder. Thanks!

I'm a huge Ultimate Frisbee fan. If any of you has ever played you'll know how dirty you can get after a game, and so does the disc. To not have to put a dirty disc inside my bag I made a clip that allows you to attach a disc to the outside of your bag. As a first year engineering student I didn't have a whole lot of experience with CAD, regardless I just gave it a try anyway. The program I used was Solidworks. It's the one they teach us how to use but you could also use Fusion 360 (which is free). First I designed the "cross-section" then extruded it. Then I rendered it and tried to imagine how it'd look like irl. (emphasis on 'tried' as I had no dimensions the disc but the height, I had to estimate a lot and expected to have to improve the model a few times) I don't personally own a 3D printer so I went to 3dhubs to find someone to print it for me. Looking to buy a 3D printer at some point, open for suggestions. In the end I was pretty happy with the result. Perfect fit the first time, so glad I didn't have to go back to change the model and reprint it. The print was made of PLA, not sure whether that's the best material but the dude I contracted assured me it was just fine. I had tons of fun making this and gained a lot of experience. I'm this won't be the last project. PS: Please make a CAD/ 3D printing Forum, surely other people will also like sharing their experiences

Hi, I just want to kick-off a modding/build project worklog here, which will kind of be more than just a worklog. My colleague is a 3D artist, he spends a lot of time working with Blender. The time came when he could invest money in a serious work station with 3x 1080 Ti`s and I will be the person helping him carry out this project. The main point of the project is to compare performance results of 3x 1080 Ti Founders Edition cards sandwiched to each other in a hot summer day, versus a fully liquid cooled solution. It's no secret that he boost frequency of the 1080 depends on the effectiveness of the stock blower, and liquid cooling them would even grant some overclocking headroom. Besides having some fun and building a liquid cooled PC, I hope that this thread will reach people who are new to building render stations, among which I belong as well. This project is supported by: Hex Gear Cablemod G.Skill EKWB and the owner's personal wallet ofc. List of parts that are being used is: Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-6850K Motherboard: SUPERMICRO C7X99-OCE Graphics Card: 3x Gainward GTX 1080 Ti FE RAM: G.SKILL® TridentZ F4-3200C16Q-32GTZSW PC Case: Hex Gear R80 Power Supply: Silverstone® ST1500-GS I personally feel like the choice of hardware was not the best, referring mostly to the motherboard choice and the PSU as well... but guess that's how it goes when you are doing something new, mistakes occur. I would like if we could debate on the subject of motherboard and CPU choice before i start posting some actual modding work being done.

Hi there, I don't know if this was already covered (either by Linus or on the forum) but can someone recommend a really good CPU (Intel) for 3d modelling and animating performance? Not for CAD, but for using Blender, 3dMax or Maya. Thanks Wintoons

Hey guys! I have some buddy's who have 3D printer, and they're actually pretty neat. The thing is, I really don't have a dire need for one, but I could see it coming in handy every once in a while. This got me asking the question: Which 3d printer is cheap but doesn't suck? We've all heard of those $99 versions, but we also know those are useless. I'm not afraid to solder/assemble if that means saving some cash, since I do a bunch of that anyways. Comment your suggestions below! Thanks in advance for all your help!

do i need a graphics card for 3d models and programs such as cinema 4d, maya. i heard that it can speed up renders, i also heard that some programs do not utilize the cpu just the gpu is that true? or are graphics cards just for better pixels and visuals.

can a 3d printer print out gold? for example you put a piece of gold in the 3d printer and then the printer makes/ duplicates the gold exactly? or is the new piece of gold plastic or wax

animaiton New Rig for 3D Animation, VFX and Rendering.
Rahul3D posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hello Friends I am from 3D animation and VFX background. I do not play games on my work machine. so i need help to build my new rig only for animation and vfx which need complex rendering 3D task. Rendering fast is my first preference. I have budget around 1500 USD. (This cost does not include HDD, Graphic Card, Monitor as i already having all these.) After doing some research on internet i have come up with following. Please let us know your thoughts on this. 1. Asus X99 - A II Motherboard. https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/X99-A-II/overview/ 2. i7 6800K (Brodwell-E) https://ark.intel.com/products/94189/Intel-Core-i7-6800K-Processor-15M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz 3. Hey guys, I'am currently working on a project for school where I look at the possibility of 3D printing. One aspect is intellectual propery. Currently the idea is that a company can send a file for the 3D model to the costumer. The costumer then can print this model. However the file then can be spreaded. Is there a way to secure .gcode in such a way that it's not possible to be readable on computers or someway to secure the file?

Hey everyone, I would like to ask you guys for some tips on my pc-build. The rig will primarily be used for 3D architectural rendering and animation. Besides that, it will function as workstation and renderer at the same time. At the moment I do most of the rendering CPU-based, but I want to build a rig that also has enough GPU-rendering power. Software I currently use for CPU-based rendering are: Sketchup, Cinema4D and 3Ds MAx in combination with Vray. Software I use for GPU-based rendering and gaming engines are: Octane in Cinema4D, Lumion and Unreal Engine 4. My budget for the whole system is between $2500 and $3000. I set up the following build mostly based on information I got through linustechtip video's. (Many Thanks) http://pcpartpicker.com/list/H6WCD8 Dual CPU - Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2620 v4 Dual HSF - Be Quit! Dark Rock Pro 3 GPU - Asus Geforce GTX 1070 Motherboard - Asus Z10PE-D16 WS SSI EEB Dual-CPU LGA2011-3 RAM - Curcial 32 GB (2x16GB) DDR4 SSD - 512GB Samsung HHD - 4TB Hitachi Deskstar Powersupply - 700W 80+ Titanium fully modular Case- Phanteks Enthoo Pro Full tower Please let me know if you see improvement in this build. Thanks!
