Hello everyone, This is first time i am posting here. Sorry if i am posting in wrong place. Ok so i am planning to build a new Workstation/Gaming Pc very soon. Please advise me with some good configuration for it. For most of the time i will be using Unreal engine 4 and Autodesk Maya 2016. I will be having two displays (most probably 24 inch Full HD or more). As i work on 3D modeling and lighting i would be requiring both CPU and GPU power. I am thinking of going dual GPU or one good single. Multi-tasking would be there between the applications. So here is the thing. My budget for the build is $4500 ( Only for tower) Only Nvidia Cards and Intel processors I need an Ultra tower. and liquid cooling. I was thinking for NZXT 820 or cooler master Cosmos II Feel free to throw your recommendations. Thanks in advance.

Hello I have ran into an issue regarding bitmaps. Whenever I create a bitmap texture and go to apply it onto an object, it won't let me apply it. Has anyone else encountered any issues?

Okay. So I'm going to change my Major at my college to Computer Graphic Technology. I want to build a new PC that would be capable of doing 3D modeling, animation, and designing games fairly well. I just have no idea where to start. Any and all input would be appreciated. Also, it'd be nice if It could also be used to for gaming. Thank you to all.

Hi, I've been interested in 3 modeling lately and want to learn but like everything else that you can do on a computer there's so many options to choose from. Would blender be a good place to start? If yes any tips or good tutorials that might help? If not could you recommend any other programs? Thanks

Hey guys, This is my first ever build and I am really excited about it but I want to make sure I'm doing it right. I've already read a bunch of the forums and watched a ton of videos but I was looking for advice on my particular build. Main concerns: I was debating on whether or not DDR4 was worth it or not, and I based this build on DDR3 for price reasons. Also worried about AMD vs Intel cpu. Lastly is my graphics card good enough to run my modeling programs and games such as Shadow of Mordor and Skyrim on High graphic settings. Budget: under $1000 Main Use: 3d modeling, (such as Auto-desk Inventor and Revit), video editing / animating, and Gaming Parts list: I already have a case I am re-purposing for my build, monitors, and all peripherals already from my old computer. I plan on adding more memory in the future, and I'm using Windows 10 CPU $96.99AMD FX-6300 CPU COOLER $85.99Cooler Master Glacer 240L MOTHERBOARD $93.78MSI 970 GAMING MEMORY $49.89G.Skill 8GB STORAGE $69.87Samsung 120GB SSD $49.89Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM VIDEO CARD $348.49 *MSI GeForce GTX 970 POWER SUPPLY $93.98 *Cooler Master 650W $888.88SUBTOTAL: Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hey there! Name's Dave and I could use a little help. I'm putting together my first custom rig in over a decade and I'm not sure I'm on the right track. What I need is an art workstation. I'll be using the Adobe CC suite (mostly Photoshop, Illustraitor, After Effects, and Premiere) for graphic design and YouTube creation. However, I also like dabbling in 3d modeling for games, using 3ds max, ZBrush, Unity and the Unreal Ngine and would like to keep the hobby up. AND I'd like to do some gaming as well. Don't really have an idea of how powerful the gaming side should be. Off the top of my head, I'll probably play stuff like Civ 5, WoW, Rocket League, and maybe mess around with a Rift when it is released. So, here's what I came up with: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($327.99 @ NCIX US) CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($109.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: MSI H97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($82.98 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($169.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($76.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.88 @ OutletPC) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ Video Card ($674.99 @ NCIX US) Case: Thermaltake VP300A5W2N ATX Mid Tower Case ($67.99 @ Directron) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($84.99 @ Micro Center) Total: $1645.79 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-08-22 00:24 EDT-0400 I'm not planning on Over Clocking (no experience in doing so) and trying to keep the budget round $1500 -$1700. What do you all think? I'm concerned about potential heating issues, thoughts? Thanks for you help guys!

Hello, I am planning to buy Asus g751jt (GTX 970m) for 3d modeling, rendering and animation in 3ds max. Is anyone using this laptop or similar one for the same purpose? Please let me know how good/bad it is in viewport and rendering etc. Thanks

Hello I am currently planning to buy a new laptop but having trouble deciding which one is better. On my budget I can get either a high performance gaming laptop or a entry level workstation laptop. I mostly work in 3ds max, revit, autocad(architectural modeling ) . But I like gaming too. Assassin's Creed is awesome. While working I need gpu power for viewport and cpu power for render. I am looking for one of these two Asus g751jt (970m/4710hq) - - - Dell Precision M3800 (quadro K1100M / 4710hq ). I am wondering if I get the Asus will I get same performance for 3d modeling as the Dell Precision. Please describe in technical terms if possible Thanks in advance.

Hey wassup! As you can tell I am into lots of different stuff and I need any ideas to better my planned build. I used pcpartpicker just cuz it's easier to use and I was lazy... I already have a mic and headphones as well as the keyboard. but everything else is free game. I plan to have the two monitors bought by the end of June 2015. I will eventually have a third monitor and have it connected to any gaming consoles. Also I am in need of a computer desk. I need a lot of desk space for all the stuff I am going to have on it, so any suggestions on that will be appreciated as well. I think thats about it! Here's the link to the pcparkpicker part list. Please leave the suggestions here!!! Thanks in advance! Link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/pGHLxr

My brother is going to collage next year and he'll need a 3D / video / photo editing rig. Current rig: Pentium 4 630 (OC to 3.6 GHz) Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT 256Mb DDR2 1Gb DDR1 Broken ASUS P5GPL-X motherboard (one dead DIMM) Budget: 500-700€ (because we'll be spending a lot for a monitor for me) Upgrade of a gpu or a cpu in 1 year. (Not included in budget) I don't need a case, a power supply, a monitor or windows. (win 10 is free) I'll be buying at Hardwareversand with idealo.de discounts. Plan A Skylake i3/Pentium, Z170 mobo, R9 390 + CPU upgrade in 1 year (i'll take the 390 and give him 280X untill CPU Upgrade) Plan B Skylake i7, Z170 mobo, + Add a GPU in 1 year 6Gb+ Plan C Hashwell i7, Z97 mobo, DDR3 + add a GPU sooner. Questions: DDR4 vs DDR3 (Worth the extra price?) What prices do you think will drop more? Skylake or R9 390? Software and games: Premiere pro After effects Lightroom Rhinoceros Solidworks Counter strike War thunder I have experience with pc building but I don't know what to do for this pc to last at least 5 years. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ EDIT: Budget is up to around 900€ without the monitor and graphics card.

Hi Guys, We had some troubles picking the parts listed below for a good price to performance work PC for the office where we'll do 3D modeling, we'll be using several 3D printers (all with their individual software) so there is a posiblity of having to work with some complex models. Also the PC will be used for CAD, 3D rendering etc. So the main thing here is to keep it close to our small budget for a work PC. Please share any thought that could improve our pick before we head on to the shelves. Also we are looking for a good wokring monitor, if there are some models that will be great for a working environement, please share. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3bBbcf CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 1 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card Case: Fractal Design Define R4 (Arctic White) ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair RM 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

I've decided to do my first build I'm new to all of this and wanted to ask some opinions and suggstions form the community. Any comments are appreciated. What you need // My budget is $2500.00 USD and $3000.00 is my max. // The only perhiprials I need will be a keyboard and moniters // I will need OS (Windows 7) // I'll be running 2-3 moniters // Use: This computer will be used as a workstation and a gaming rig for my home. I do heavy amounts of 3D modeling in prgrams such as Rhino, Revit, 3DS Max, and some CAD. I also run both still and real time rendering programs such as Maxwell Render, Vray, and Octane. I work in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign everyday as well. This wil be my personal home computer which I play games on as well. I enjoy games such as Skyrim modded, Dark Souls 2, League of Legends, some indie games, and I would love to be able to some of the higher end games which I have been unable to up till now. What I need // Hardware that can handle daily use of 3D modeling programs and adobe programs // A rig that can handle heavy cpu rendering and possible gpu rendering in the future. // large storage space // fast memory and lots of it What I want // Three moniters would be great but two is fine. I need IPS for the color quality but I can't afford 4k yet. 1080p is fine but I am open to 1440 withing reason. // A clean build, Black bruch aluminium, minimal, little color as possible, size doesnt matter either way to me. Cosair seems to be a style I like for cases. 450d or 250d is a consideration (fractal is in the running as well) // brown switch mechanical keyboard. Love the feel but can;t have the noise, i ill never use any color but white lights so the RBG lines dont do much for me. // A good graphics card(s). I am unsure whether to run a single beast cards ro teo good cards in SLI due to my needs. // Some advice My First Attempt PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6kQgCJ Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6kQgCJ/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor ($383.95 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($94.98 @ OutletPC) Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste ($6.73 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: EVGA Micro Micro ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard ($249.99 @ Amazon) Memory: Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($194.99 @ Adorama) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($229.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate SV35.5 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($90.00 @ Amazon) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX Video Card ($355.66 @ Newegg) Case: Corsair 450D ATX Mid Tower Case ($109.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($54.99 @ NCIX US) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($197.97 @ OutletPC) Wired Network Adapter: Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/100/1000 Mbps PCI-Express x1 Network Adapter ($28.29 @ Amazon) Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 Wired Gaming Keyboard ($124.99 @ NCIX US) Total: $2122.52 Thoughts // I plan on haveing 2x8gb corsair vengance ram, they just didnt have it listed. I am also considering getting two gtx 970s or just going with one 980. I will need an external disc drive and moniters as well which are not listed. I have no idea whether I need a sound card or if there is on board audio with the motherboard. // This is my first build and I am by no means a computer genius, there could be several conflicts with these parts that I am not aware of and I could just be flat out saying something that does not make sense. I would love to know what hardware you think I should consider for my scenario and what I should look into. I would say the computer will be used 40% work 60% gaming. I don't plan on moving it much so weight and size is not an issue, quiet is nice but I dont really care. I will probably buy most of the parts around black friday so be able to optimize my budget. I'm looking to finish this build by the end of the year so feel free to touch a bit on the edge of the budget as prices will fall somewhat. Thanks for taking the time to read, I look forward to reading your comments. -S

Hey guys, I was wondering about 4k modeling on Blender, Maya, and 3DS Max. How much of a difference did it make to your modeling experience and color accuracy? Also will rendering with a 4k display really degrade my render speeds? I won't be rendering in 4k just using it as a canvas per se. Thank you all who post and please, be nice i don't know too much about monitor tech ^^

Newbie help wanted: recommended build components
NerdNinja posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hello Computer Pros! I am a person that is in dire need of a PC but I don't know what would be good for my useage. I have some computer savvy to know how the parts work. So first off is my budget which is about $750 - $1000. This is really all id like to spend but it is not an exact budget also this is for the PC only as I already have my peripherals chosen. Secondly is my work load. I prefer windows os and run games like COD black ops 2, Portal, L4D, Minecraft, etc. and I plan to do a lot of 3D Modeling and java programing, also I do use a lot of applications at the same time. And thirdly I prefer to be able to upgrade, water or air cooled I don't care which, I only need one graphics card, this rig will sit on high carpet and will be hard wired for internet, and I would like a windowed case with cable management, and SILENCE IS A MUST because i'll be sleeping in the same room. So if you have any suggestions I would be stoked to hear them! If there is any info you need just ask and I'll reply asap. Thanks, NerdNinja *edit I do want to be able to play Battlefield 4 at med to high settings.- 14 replies

Hey guys! Planning my first rig and I have a few questions from a computer noob (me) to some computer pros (you). So far I really like what I have setup but I'm a little worried about some parts and I would like to hear your feedback. So first I should probably mention what this build will be used for. I will be doing a decent amount of gaming on this rig, games include Minecraft, BF4 at very high settings, COD at very high settings, Portal 2, I also will be doing animation with Autodesk Maya, and recording/ uploading to youtube, and last but not least programming with java and game design. I have no doubt that this rig will perform beyond my wildest dreams but I wan't to hear your opinions. One thing I might consider changing are the cpu cooler however I do like the idea of fanless as this rig must be silent and I have no interest in overclocking. PLEASE don't comment about my choice of keyboard and mouse because I have my reasons and I'd rather not explain. Please keep in mind I would like to keep this build at about $1500 or less. GPU is not listed because it is the new AMD R7 260X or the R9 290X (haven't decided) and PcPartPicker does not have them listed yet. Any Questions feel free to ask and I will answer them ASAP! I hope to hear your thoughts! http://pcpartpicker.com/user/NerdNinja/saved/2xYd

Hello everyone, I am on the quest for a new PC because my 9 year old one is showing its age lately, some time ago I tried to upgrade but the bitcoin fever caught on me and GPU prices rocketed. The main uses are photography editing, gaming and I am introducing myself to video editing (not streaming) and 3D modeling and 3D printing. In a future I might attempt some overclocking but not from the beginning. I live in Spain and my budget is around 1500€, 1750€ tops! I don't like that RGB trend and i want to aim for a PC that is not screaming "I'm here". Currently I am working with this part list: https://es.pcpartpicker.com/list/mcRXXH Do you find anything that might not work or need more investment? Storage wise, I am considering to reuse my HDD for mass storage and I have a samsung 512Gb EVO SSD from 2016. It might be possible to squeeze an M.2 SSD into the price. Also, it is not on the parts list but I might add some PWM noctua fans to swap the ones on the case and allow motherboard control. Thank you very much in advance!
