Hello, all! I'm trying to build an AMD based SFF PC, for VR. (Node 202, Core 500, RVZ01 or RVZ02 were the cases I was looking at) So which High-End AMD cards do you think would work best in this situation? (I remember blower fans work better in small spaces) Thanks!

So I've been looking at graphics cards a lot lately for friends who are building PCs. One thing I've noticed is that... the sexy reference cooler AMD designed for the R9 3xx re-badges is NOWHERE to be found. sure there are the one off ones made by AMD themselves, but why are reference cards by companies like XFX still using the old design? I have a question to you guys. I want to buy a R9 390x card and I was going for a Sapphire card. But I live in Europe where the difference between a 390 and a 390x is about 130€. And I was wondering if the price difference is worth the product. Or should I just stick to the 390 and save my money?

So I bought a XFX R9 390x DD a week ago. I didn't notice this issue at first, but after a couple days, almost any game I played had massive stuttering in it. I also noticed that when I would run Heaven to test an overclock my scores were lower than the original stock run I ran. And even after setting it to stock it still scores lower. In the games, it just seems like im running a multi gpu settup because of all the stuttering I get. But this is really a single gpu. So I decided to pull up the hardware monitor in AfterBurner and check it on my 2nd monitor while I played a couple games and use Fraps for checking fps. The results were...... very concerning. As you can see from the attached picture, my gpu never hits above 794MHz and the GPU % usage is all over the place. I ran my test on Diablo 3 and Skyrim because I knew I shouldn't have any issues at 1080p (even though I have a 4k monitor). But when playing D3, my fps would never go above 60fps. And yes, I have made sure that any in-game vsync option is turned off, and I even wen't into the Radeon settings and turned it off in the global settings to override any game settings. Now when playing skyrim I knew I wasn't going to see my fps go above 60fps due to it being hard locked in the game engine. But It still stutters in-game, which it should not. I then decided to look at the hardware monitor while I ran Heaven, and I found that the first 3 scenes it's locked at 30fps and the gpu is running at about 700MHz. Mid way through the 4th scene it uncaps and the gpu runs between 1025 and 1050 MHz (98%-100%) which is closer to what I would expect the whole test to run at. I will include a link to a (very badly taken phone video) on my Google Drive to show this. When I first got my gpu I ran Heaven and recorded the score, then after every clock change I ran it again and recorded the results (although there are a couple results missing due to not saving the file....). My highest scoring oc was 1160MHz on the core and 1750MHz on the mem. No voltage offset and it scored 1651. When I noticed the stuttering issue I reran the test at this setting. And the results were about 1550, which is between my 1100MHz and 1150MHz scores. Google Drive video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2DZUsn8oB4RT1dLNE9mMndEZFk/view?usp=sharing Bench.txt

I have a reference R9 290, it runs hot and loud. I am tempted to buy an R9 390x aftermarket edition so it isn't as hot or loud but is it worth it? Am I better off watercooling the R9 290 with the nzxt kraken g10 and corsair h55? I recently got a third monitor and will be playing games in eyefinity so I don't know if the 8GB of VRAM will help with that, I can't turn the settings up in GTA V with my 290 because it uses all 4GB but this is the only game I've had that problem with at the moment. So basically is it worth it to spend more money on an older card (290) or buy a new card (390x) and then reuse or sell the 290? Thanks, Reece

Alright guys, so I dont know if you followed my previous post, but I am keeping my GTX 770 SLI setup for my main gaming rig for now. But now I am trying to decide on which mid grade AMD video card to get for my secondary rig. I wont be gaming much on it, aside from maybe Mobas, and maybe some CS: GO and other casual games. Ill be watching alot of twitch on it and web surfing. Now ive been looking at the r9 290, but that card looks like it MIGHT be on par with my main SLI setup... maybe too powerful of a card? Do you guys have good suggestions on a card that would'nt be overkill for my needs, that would be able to run 2 monitors (maybe an ultra wide)? Since were looking at mid grade cards, price really isn't an issue (maybe it is, $300 or below, lol). Love ya guys, thanks for your input! PS - Ill be running and z97 chipset mobo, 700w power supply, 16gb 1600 ram, and an intel i5 4690k devils canyon

So I am currently building another PC for casual use, not hardcore AAA ultra graphics machine, but I am looking to upgrade my current gaming rig, so I'm going to hand down my i5 4690k and one of two GTX 770s to the rig, Im planning on getting an i7 4790k (either on sale or ebay deal) just to get more power into the main rig. My problem is deciding on what would be an upgrade to my current GTX 770 SLI setup? I've always had Nvidia cards and have been a fan, but with the DX 12 uncertainty and games that will be using async. I've heard that it can / cant be fixed with drivers, but Nvidia says it can, BUT, who knows. I like the prices on the AMD cards right now, so the 390x is looking pretty good to me right now, 8gb of vram, and I have high hopes for what AMD cards hold for the future of DX 12. On the other hand I love the power of Nvidia cards, but not a huge fan of their prices, and I'm not sure they will get the async thing sorted with drivers and good compatibility with DX 12 (until nex gen / refresh cards) What do you guys think? What would be an upgrade from 2x GTX 770s for AAA gaming and 1440p?

So I have some trouble deciding about my gpu, I already now that I do not want any nvidia card (except 980ti but that's out of my budget lol). I just don't know what to get between the 390, 390x or maybe even extend my budget by a bit and get the Fury (non x), also need help with what brand to buy and such. Been looking at the asus strix card aswell as the MSI cards. My specs: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Ttb3pg Might be getting a second one in the future and if so, would I need a bigger psu? I will be playing: GTAV, BF4, CS:GO and the new NFS which will be releasing soon.. I play at 1080p atm but will probably move up to 1440p/21:9 or even 4k but that won't happen in the next 6 months at least.

Hello everyone, I have been planning a total PC build for the past 4 months now and it has finally come time to start ordering components. I have all of my parts already chosen, but I am stuck on the subject of a graphics card. This GPU will be paired with an Intel i7-6700k, and will be living it's life displaying at 1440p 60hz. Now I have been looking at some comparisons and I have hit a wall. The 390x is an amazing card, and the 980ti is also likewise, however; which would be better in the long run. I do know that vram can be an issue when playing at resolutions higher than 1080p, so would the 390x be a better candidate over the 980ti? I don't really favor a side, but with the power consumption and heat output of the 390x, it kinda pushes me away. On the other hand the price of the 980ti I am planning to get hurts. Thanks Guys! ~Musical Moose Parts List: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/damoose26/saved/FLZCmG 390x of interest: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202147&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Hi guys, I was wandering if my power supply (Fortron Black Power 550W) can handle the upgrade from HD 5850 to R9 290x (or 390x as I'm assuming they're gonna be the same as far as power consumption goes). The full specs would be: CPU: i5-750 @ 3.8 GHz GPU: R9 290x (390x) RAM: 2x2GB @ 1520 MHz (I know I need more ) HDD: 2x SSD: 1x ODD: 1x (don't know if i should even mention it...) Fans: 5x 120mm Any ideas are appreciated. Thx

Hi! So AMD 300 Series has been released now are available to buy and I need new GPU. Budget is 500pounds. Currently I have 1080p monitor, but will be upgrading to 4k at the end of the year. So my options are as follows : 1.r9 390 - 270pounds 2.r9 390x - 350pounds 3. reference 970 - 300pounds 4. reference 980 - 420pounds I haven't included 980ti and 295x2 in my list because they are over my budget right now. 200 series in my country are hard to find and prices are not too different from 300 series. Also I'm considering SLI or Xfire next year, but I'm not sure if my PSU would be powerful enough for AMD options, as it is ax760. Aside from the raw performance, Im looking for silence operation on idle and under full load. Thanks

Could a mod move this to the tech news forum please, I feel like it'll get more exposure there. If listings are correct then the 300 series looks like it will be an entire re brand. The 390 Hawaii, 380 Tonga and 370 Pitcairn. It then seems logical to think that AMD will be giving the HBM cards their own branding, much like Nvidia do with the Titan series. AMD recently stated that they don't want to be known as the value brand and I don't think this will help them, if the information is correct. Re-branding the entire series and making the HBM cards enthusiast grade isn't likely to help them in the market share department unless HBM lives up to the hype. It sounds like AMD was surprised by the 900 series and makes me think that AMD are still struggling to make chips more power efficient. The source is wccftech so take it with a pinch of salt. I am looking for a card(s) to drive 3*1080, budget is also a concern, currently i have an i5 4690k, the only problem with the 970s would be the fact that my motherboard only supports Xfire, a psu upgrade may be required (corsair cx600) all help appreciated , the monitors will be AOC g2460pqu, 144Hz, have one atm . Of course there is the 980ti which i have looked at but isn't in stock anywhere, i live in the UK.

So I was looking at online stores for the new r9 300 series cards and I really liked the pictures of the reference design, so I thought I'd get me one of those, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. I can only find msi/asus/gigabyte/etc aftermarket cooling solutions. Where could I get one of the reference designs, or would they ever release?

Which one should i get it is the same price here where i live. would the 8gb have any influence on future games maybe?
