Hi! So AMD 300 Series has been released now are available to buy and I need new GPU. Budget is 500pounds. Currently I have 1080p monitor, but will be upgrading to 4k at the end of the year. So my options are as follows : 1.r9 390 - 270pounds 2.r9 390x - 350pounds 3. reference 970 - 300pounds 4. reference 980 - 420pounds I haven't included 980ti and 295x2 in my list because they are over my budget right now. 200 series in my country are hard to find and prices are not too different from 300 series. Also I'm considering SLI or Xfire next year, but I'm not sure if my PSU would be powerful enough for AMD options, as it is ax760. Aside from the raw performance, Im looking for silence operation on idle and under full load. Thanks

Hi, I am currently looking into buying a new graphics card for my rig and am not sure which one to get. I mainly use the rig for gaming but I also do some 3D modelling and video editing. I would be happy if someone could provide me with some guidance as to which will be most suitable for my use. The contestants are: R9 290X Power Color reference cooler - 2300 CNY, 378 USD R9 290X XFX custom cooler - 2500 CNY, 410 USD GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 Gaming - 2700 CNY, 443 USD GTX 970 Gigabyte Wind Force - 2500 CNY, 410 USD R9 390 XFX custom cooler - 2700 CNY, 443 USD Also, does anybody have any experience with water cooling any of those cards? Thanks from China Jakob

So I was looking at online stores for the new r9 300 series cards and I really liked the pictures of the reference design, so I thought I'd get me one of those, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. I can only find msi/asus/gigabyte/etc aftermarket cooling solutions. Where could I get one of the reference designs, or would they ever release?
-
Which one should i get it is the same price here where i live. would the 8gb have any influence on future games maybe?

Hello guys, i was wondering if its possible to watch AMD press conference ..maybe on e3? or will there be none? cause i thought it was supposed to be revealed today on june 16th... regards, ezio

Hi, I've recently upgraded to an MSI R9 390 GPU (from an XFX 6950) and I'm experiencing constant driver crashes with it. Whenever I try to play a game or do something graphics-intensive, the drivers usually crash within seconds. Even when out of game, I sometimes experience the occasional crash. I can't pin down if it's the card, the drivers, or something else with the computer. I recently got it replaced, but sadly the replacement is still having the same problem. I've tried the following since I got the replacement: Fresh install Windows 10 and the drivers - still crashing. Update to the Beta drivers - still crashing. Tried to install older versions of the drivers (back from Win7/Win8) on Win10.. wouldn't install! Worth a shot anyway. Fresh install Windows 7 and tried out different versions there - still crashing. Here are my specs: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Motherboard Intel Core i5 2500K - Sandy Bridge HyperX Beast 8GB RAM (1600 MHz, DDR3) Corsair CX850M PSU Crucial 256GB SSD WD Blue 500GB, WD Red 1TB This all started to happen after I updated my graphics driver to the latest version. I initially replaced the PSU (initially a 600W) - however that didn't solve the issue. Is there anything else that I could try to fix the crashing? I've very much hit a brick wall with this. The old card works absolutely fine in the computer - so could it be a driver/card problem?

Hey everyone! My GTX 690 has gone to sh*t lately, so i'm going to upgrade my GPU. But in the process, i might aswell update some of my other parts, and those include: -a new Chassis -New PSU for R9 390 Nitro. -Cooling for OC. Now, for the GPU, i'm looking at the R9 390 Nitro, since the AMD market is a little cheaper than the Nvidia market here in Denmark. As for the new chassis, i've been looking at the Corsair Graphite 760T, since it looks REALLY awesome, and it provides lots of workspace for later on. As for the PSU, i have no idea whether i need to upgrade, since i bought the PC through a company, that custom-builds PCs back in 2012. For the cooling, i have no clue as to what is neccessary, but i've heard that AMD GPUs typically run a lot hotter than Nvidia, and tend to need better cooling all around. I would also like to OC if possible. My current speccs look like this: https://i.imgur.com/wyrWsF9.png And last, but not least, what i expect from the build: I'd like to run GTA V at High/Ultra settings, at around the 60 FPS mark. I'm also wating for Fallout 4 to release, but if it runs GTA at nice speeds, it should be able to do Fallout 4 just fine. My budget is around 700-900€, i'm a little flexible, but would like to stay around the 600-700€ mark. Thank you for reading!

vs. So in a recent post over on New builds & planning (which you can find here), I had a lot of comments suggesting I supplement in the Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Strix I'd chosen with an AMD r9 390 model. The thinking seemed to be primarily around the idea of getting more bang-for-buck with the AMD as it came with 8GB of on-board GDDR5 RAM, opposed to the 970 that comes with 4GB. The two main things that are putting me off taking this advice is that; 1) The 970 I found is almost £100 cheaper than the average price of the 390s I've come across, and 2) The driver support for the AMD GPUs still lack behind the support for big title games (such as GTA V) as far as I know. What do you guys think? Am I wrong in worrying about the support & performance of the cards? Do you have another suggestions for a better card of a similar price? Cheers all, J

Got my GPU (Sapphire RADEON R9 390 NITRO Tri-X) a couple of weeks ago and it runs pretty good! But it looks horrendous due to the fact that there's no backplate included. Is there a backplate on the market? Or can I fix it myself?

Hello Linus Community, So I need to upgrade my graphics card, but however I know that there is HBM 2.0 coming next release schedule as well as the new Nvidia architecture. We might also see something new from AMD?! (he said sarcastically) So i need a card that will hold me over till then, or, be able to turn into a crossfire in the future if the next release timeline is shit. So I have narrowed down my two choices to the gigabyte or sapphire 390. Roughly the same card, I could care less about clock speeds (overclocking is stupid easy nowadays). I am essentially wondering which one people either prefer through experience or just brand experience. I have only been with XFX (lifetime warranty yall) this far. I trust both gigabyte and sapphire so... kinda making my choice a little bit hard. My system is: Gigabyte Z97x gaming 5 motherboard i7 4790k (AIO watercooled) 16gb g.skill sniper (cl 9 version) running at 1866 Storage space is irrelevant. All of this inside of a Phanteks Luxe. I currently have an XFX HD 7870 GHz Edition. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Should I get another R9 390 or a 980ti? (will be going to 1440p eventually, at 1080p now)

Hi everyone, I know there are a ton of threads about the 970 vs the 390 which is to be expected given that they are more direct competitors in terms of performance and price. Initially I wanted a 970 but have decided to go with a 390 instead for the VRAM. My biggest concern is the reported heat output of the 390 as I'm trying to keep my system as quiet as possible at idle and don't want my case fans or CPU fan ramping up in order to get rid of the extra heat generated. I am looking at either the MSI Twin Frozr or the Sapphire Nitro (choosing which is another internal debate). I understand that the return on investment for a 980 is not really worth it in terms of performance at this resolution but I absolutely don't see the need to go with a 980 Ti for 1080. The 980 itself is overkill. It's just that I plan to play Skyrim and Shadow of Mordor and I understand that with mods, the last 0.5 GB of slower VRAM on the 970 can sometimes be problematic. Plus who knows what the future will hold. So I'm left with the 8 GB on the 390 or the full 4 GB on a 980. Ideally I would just go with the 390 but, again, I am concerned with the heat indirectly leading to extra noise due to heat. I understand that both the Sapphire and the MSI cards will not spin their fans at idle but given the reviews online indicate that the 390s run hot, that heat has to go somewhere and it is my thought that this will lead to hotter internal case temperatures so my case (and CPU?) fans will ramp up. I'm not sure that's how it will work though. Relative cost in USD after tax and any applicable discounts: EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 $477.50 MSI GTX 980 GAMING 4G GeForce GTX 980 $464.82 (have a credit with the vendor) ZOTAC GeForce GTX 980 AMP Edition $458.39 Sapphire Radeon NITRO R9 390 $332.33 MSI R9 390 GAMING $313.49 Thank you for any advice! Note: This is cross-posted to a couple of different sites so I'm sure some of you may have seen this, or even replied, before.

Hi guys, I'm planning to build my new pc and would like to ask if AMD 8-Core FX 9590 4.7 GHz Processor is compatible with MSI 990FXA GAMING Desktop Motherboard. I would also like to ask if you would recommend MSI Radeon R9 390 Gaming 8G Graphics Card or what would you recommend instead. All this is going to require a lot of power, of how much should my power supply be? Considering the processor requires 220W and for the graphics card they recommend 400W should I go for a 750W power supply or something a bit more powerful in case I add something else to the pc later? And what brand would you recommend for the power supply? Thanks very much

Note I am using DVI dual link! Hello everyone. I just updated my graphics card after I gave it to my girlfriend who is building her first build. After I hooked up my GPU I wanted to try it out to see what it could do. The first thing I check was the refresh rate before I played a game to test it. I saw that it set at 60Hz and I can't make it go higher. Everything was the same in my build now besides my graphics cards, thus I think this maybe more of a problem with some settings in the graphics card. I swapped out the cards and hooked everything back up including my Benq xl2411z with a DVI dual link to the graphics card itself (not the mobo). Things that I have tried as of now: Updated catalyst control center drivers Attempted to alter the refresh rate in the advanced display settings in the Display adapter properties Attempted the change the refresh rate in CCC, but I am having trouble finding the correct options to alter the refresh rate Does anyone have any suggestions that I can attempt to fix it? I assumed that the only thing that i changed was the GPU, so the problem is with a setting in the GPU. Thanks for you time.

Guys I'm in the market for a GPU around the $350 price range. I was thinking about getting the GTX 970 since it's seems so popular. Specifically I was gonna get the ASUS GTX 970 STRIX, but with the release of the MSI R9 390 8GB Gaming GPU, should I get that instead. I've posted a couple threads about it and the R9 390 is supposedly a better card than the GTX 970, but the difference is minimal. Is this true? Also, how would you explain the benchmarks posted at http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/R9_390_PCS_Plus/30.html Stock vs stock, the R9390 is faster than the 970 by 1% at 1440P but 3% slower at 1080P. Which card do you guys suggst picking up.

Hi, I just finished my build and have been doing some temperature monitoring over the last couple of days and have been noticing that my GPU temps (Nitro R9 390) are far too high at aroung 50C at idle. My current Fan config is as follows: 2x 120mm + 1 140mm Fan in front as intake One 120mm fan in the back as exhaust. For the CPU cooler I use a Deep Cool 400 with the original fan and an coolermaster jetflow in push pull configuration. Thanks Jakob

Hey guys I am building a new PC and this is my my build http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/fycLNG At first I was gonna go with the best bang for the buck GPU GTX 970 but then R9 390 came out and it is more future proof so I decided to go with that.My concern is the power consumption on the 390. Usually AMD cards power consumption is higher. The question is that is my psu good enough to power my while system. Any 390 owners here? can you tell me how much the power consumption is at total at idle and load. Thanks

It doesn't seem like my newly built PC is using the dedicated R9 390 GPU from Sapphire... I downloaded the bloody Catalyst Control Center but it says: AMD Control Center cannot be started. There are currently no settings that can be configured using AMD Catalyst Control Center. And when I go to Screen Resolution > Advanced settings, it says: Adapter Type Microsoft Basic Display Adapter Adapter Information Chip Type: AMD ATOMBIOS DAC Type: © 1988-2010, Advanced Micro D (Wink, wink...) Adapter String: Microsoft Basic Display Adapter BIOS Information: GRENADA Total Available Graphics Memory: 256 MB Dedicated Video Memory: 0 MB System Video Memory: 0 MB Shared System Memory: 256 MB May I ask wtf is going on with my system? And how do I fix it?

Just bought the r9 390 from Sapphire. While I could've gotten the 290x for the same price... Did I fuck myself over? Should I try to convince the store that I'm not pleased with the produkt and get my money back to buy another card?

Wanted to clarify for everyone, AMD's next GPU lineup. I'm seeing a lot of confusion and misunderstanding (not surprised) with regards to the 300 series cards and where they will fall, performance-wise. Some are rebrands/tweaked pre-existing GPUs and some are new. Using pieces of info gathered from numerous sources over the past few weeks/months, this is (what I believe to be) a definitive list of the up-coming mainstream/enthusiast GPU lineup from AMD: Radeon "Fury": Brand new flagship GPU based on the new "Fiji" architecture with the new stacked memory design. Will most likely be released in pro and xt variants just like the other mid and high-end AMD GPUs of the recent past and present. Will be available in 4 and 8GB variants. Will compete with the Titan X and 980Ti. 390 & 390X: Contrary to what some still believe (and not necessarily by their fault), this will NOT be AMD's new flagship GPU (Fiji). That will be the "Fury" as described above. The 390 and 390X will be tweaked and rebranded versions of the Hawaii pro and xt, currently known as the 290 and 290X. 4 and 8GB variants will be available. Will compete with the GTX 970 and 980. It is rumored that AMD has been able to get more from the Hawaii chips to compete more closely with the 980, but we'll have to wait and see. 380 & 380X: The 380 will be a rebrand of the current Tonga pro based 285 (which is a cut-down Tonga chip). The 380X will be a new "fully unlocked" Tonga xt GPU. These will be available with 2 and 4GB versions and will compete with the GTX 960 and rumored 960Ti. 370 & 370X: As far as I know, these will simply be rebrands of the 270 and 270X (Pitcairn pro and xt) GPUs, probably with minor changes/updates. They will most likely compete with the GTX 950 and 950Ti, if and when they release. So, hopefully this clears things up and helps remove much of the confusion. Cheers.
