I just read several articles about LG releasing a complete new series of Ultrawide Monitors next month. I found the information on some german news sites such as http://www.prad.de/new/news/shownews_tft8264.html According to the articles they rename some of the current generation Monitors to -34UM95C -34UC87C -34UC97C -29UC97C They seem to have added some interesting features like dual controller setup and took away thunderbold for pricing reasons. Maybe they even fixed some of the backlight bleeding issues of the current generation... What do you guys think? Is it worth to get one of these or am I better off waiting for other manufacturers like asus to unveil their g-sync model?

Just a few questions regarding compatibility between case/sound card and monitor/motherboard/GPU I always wanted to build a badass gaming pc but since I'm a university student I don't have the time to play much anyway and the additional money required for it isn't worth it for me. But I need a desktop so here we go. Although it's a shame to get a 3440x1440 monitor and not game on it that's exactly what I intent to do. As I understand it I need to connect the monitor through DisplayPort if I want to get more than 30 Fps. -> Since I won't game with this I can simply buy a motherboard with DisplayPort connector and use the onboard graphics right/ don't need to buy a discrete gpu? The case shall be Silverstone SST RVZ01. As I intend to buy an Asus Xonar Essence STX II I can still use it in this case right, because of the limited room? It would fit in the holder where the GPU normally would be if I understand correctly. As time goes by I will update this as this build gets more fleshed out. Since it's my first build please bear with me.

Hey folks, I'm planning to buy a 3440x1440p monitor, maybe the LG 34UM95. I'm in the process of planning my first desktop and was wondering if Onboard-GPU's are enough to drive this at 60Hz or if I'm gonna run into problems. I won't be gaming on this thing and since my case of choice is a SilverStone RVZ01, I was planning to use the space dedicated to the graphics card for a sound card. If my whole idea doesn't work I need to find a new case... And I would like the reduced noise and power consumption from not having to buy a dedicated GPU. So, something like Intel HD Graphics 4600 enough?

Hello Linus Tech Tips community, I'm looking for your feedback and advices. I want to buy a 34" 21:9 1440p screen and since there will be a lot of pixels to push, my trustworthy GTX 760 will need an upgrade. I wanted to know if a GTX 970 is enough to play most recent games in medium/high presets at 60 fps or should I directly aim for a GTX 980 or a 970 SLI? What is the best option for my bucks? Thanks! PS: Probably a silly question, but will my i5 3570k might be a bottleneck of some sort with such a powerful graphics card?

want to upgrade my rig with a new gpu and a new monitor. I have heard that the gtx 970 can drive a 1440p monitor no problem and my question is if the GTX 970 AMP! Extreme Core Edition is enough to play battlefield, dirt3 and such on 3440x1440 or if it not enough power to do it.

I am hoping to find some monitors that fit these criteria. First, I am looking for monitors that are 1440p, IPS (or a panel technology similar to IPS, like VA I think), and has g sync, preferably also has a refresh rate over 60Hz (I say preferably because I would really like it to also be included, but it is not an absolute requirement). The second would also be 1440p, preferably IPS as well, has an Ultrawide panel, preferably even a curved Ultrawide panel, and has g sync. I know these options would be very expensive, but I just want to know if anything that fit these criteria exist for future reference.

I've been researching 34-inch Ultrawide monitors for some time now. Outside of the painstaking process of coming to the decision to drop the extra cash on one versus a multi-monitor setup, my dilemma is knowing which display to purchase. There are many competitors in this market: Dell UltraSharp U3415W LG 34UC87M-B Acer XR341CKbmijpphz LG 34UM95-P LG 34UC97-S LG 34UC97C-B LG 34UC87-S Samsung S34E790C AOC u3477Pqu Philips BDM3470UP But after some time with Google (probably should have used DuckDuckGo, but I digress) I've narrowed it down, with limited confidence, to either the LG 34UC87M-B or the Dell UltraSharp U3415W, Based on my knowledge, the difference between these monitors really comes down to the stand and ports. From the reviews I've seen, the stands seem on par with one another. The ports, however, are a slightly different story. The Dell has more USB 3.0 ports, but fewer HDMI and no Thunderbolt ports. I own a MacBook Pro, but use it infrequently so the Thunderbolt ports aren't a huge deal either way. The bigger issue is the fewer HDMI ports on the Dell. From what I've read, the LG is fully (and easily) capable of supporting multiple displays). This appeals to me specifically as I'm a developer who often works on a desktop, but sometimes needs the portability of a tablet/laptop and would appreciate being able to pull up notes from my mobile device alongside the code I'm working on. Is it possible/feasible to use the Display port and HDMI with either product simultaneously? Does anyone have hands on experience with either model that they can share? I had considered ordering both and returning the one I like least - but would prefer not to put that burden on the vendor. Of significant note (though for me personally mitigated by performance) is the cost differential between the two: From NewEgg the Dell is currently $899 (with an additional discount available) and the LG is $1099. LG: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824025065 Dell: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260239 Thanks in advance for your input.

Hey guys I really like how the LG ultrawide monitors look. I was wondering. I know they have a FreeSync version, but do they have a G-Sync version? I've been watching the ultrawide news like a hawk, but one cant know it all. I really like how ultrawide looks and want to join the club, but I'm not sure if I should buy now or wait maybe six more months for something better down the line. Also would like to just chat it up with ultrawide's in general give me your thoughts ^.^

Damn guys I cant make up my mind on which display to get. At first I was going with the ROG Swift. Then I changed my mind and put the Acer XB270HU in my shopping cart. Now I'm wanting to go with an ultrawide display but I don't know which one to get. I guess what I'm trying to ask.. whats the best 3440x1440 display you can get for gaming today.

I and my friend have decided to get him a gaming pc but I wanted to be sure that this will be good w/ skyrim @ 3440x1440 (34" 21:9) but if there are any necessary changes don't make it much farther than the $1600 budget. Also I don't like doing things like putting a i3 but using a titan black as well cause I like to balance it more. And I know the psu is overkill but it for some reason is cheaper that the 850w version and he can use this in future builds or sli. Let me know if I should change anything, MRE

So I'm planning a new devil's canyon build and plan to game at 3440x1440 (21:9) or even 4k, but I'm undecided on the GPU(s). Should I get one Titan Black or 2 EVGA gtx 780 6gb in SLI. Note: I will be liquid cooling the card(s) so I'm also planning to over clock.

Japanese Media PC Watch reported, LG showed off some new monitors in CES 2014, including a 4K monitor, and some 21:9 monitors. LG showed off several new 21:9 monitors. The UM95 series, which included 34" 34UM95, and 29" 29UM95, are having a resolution of 3440x1440. It support 99% sRGB, and it support thunderbolt 2, display port and HDMI.

Chinese tech site Expreview reported, they got a leak from a forum member, that the previously leaked, upcoming u3415w could have a 21:9 34" panel from LG,featuring a resolution of 3440x1440 (not exactly 4k in 21:9, i think). It would have a similar port configuration and outlook as the u2913wm, and it could be in sales as early as this December. Although I had doubt on the "onsale as early as December" thing, if the close-to-4k-resolution is true, it could be an interesting monitor. Can't wait for that! ~~ http://www.expreview.com/29756.html (in Chinese) http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&nv=1&rurl=translate.google.com.hk&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://www.expreview.com/29756.html&usg=ALkJrhj8L8SOxKX8KNMmEfPeIvjmv7DhcQ ( with Google Translate to English) update: forum user Tomppix posted TechPowerUp's article on this leak. http://www.techpowerup.com/195414/dell-prepares-21-9-cinema-display-with-3440x1440-resolution.html update: for those who are interested in this monitor, i found a user at whirlpool posted pic of a testing unit of a lg version of this monitor, with the same panel, next to a 23" monitor. ( the user stated, for the first pic, that " This picture is kind of from a weird angle so not sure if you can see it well." ) He claimed the lg version of this 34" monitor would be coming in December, and possibly with a recommanded retail price of $999 in the state. The Dell version should be a bit cheaper... http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2171037

The rumored U3415W is finally here. It is not just Dell's first 34" 21:9 monitor, it will be Dell's first curve monitor. Same with the 34UC97, it is equipped with a 34" curve 3440x1440 panel, and it features a ultra thin bezel design, HDMI 2.0, MHL, DisplayPort, and Mini DisplayPort, dual 9W speakers, and a fully-adjustable stand. This monitor will be up for order in China in November, and then globally from December. No words on pricing. http://www.slashgear.com/dells-34-inch-curved-display-wants-to-surround-you-29343435/ http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20140829005449/en/Alienware-Area-51-It%E2%80%99s#.VAFnxjKSx8k update: according to Tomshardware's article, this monitor covers 99 percent of the sRGB color space, with a Delta-E of <3. Also it can display up to 1.074 billion colors, and viewing angles are 178°/ 172°. With the adjustable stand you can tilt, swivel, and adjust in height with a range of 115 mm. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/dell-u3415w-curved-219,27581.html

Hello Everyone! I was looking up a new choice of monitor, and fell in love with the 21:9 model monitors, and really think that is the choice for me, but since there is more pixels to control, I assume it takes more GPU power? So 3 questions: - Is a nvidia GTX 780 enough for a 2560x1080 monitor? - What about for a 3440x1440? - Has anyone tried working/gaming on these massive screens? Are they too much? I'm afraid i might regret if they're to big for working (mostly Excel/word,dreamweaver). In advance thank you! :-) Example of possible choice: http://www.techpowerup.com/201606/aoc-to-release-the-u3477pqu-34-inch-3440-x-1440-monitor.html

So I'll be using this monitor as my primary display device. First impressions are "Holy shit this thing is huge!" and "Oh fuck a group of dead pixels!" Ignoring the dead pixels for the time being, the display is an absolute mammoth. It easily takes up my whole desk and it has really reduced the need for a second screen for pretty much every application that isn't fullscreen. I still have a secondary monitor for when I'm full screen gaming on the 34um95. Speaking of games, I'm running a generation-old high-end graphics card, the GTX680 2GB, and it seems to drive the display well. I'll have to do more testing while I'm waiting for a replacement from amazon, but for the most part I can run less graphically intensive games like Diablo or TF2 maxed out in the video settings, but for games like BF4 I've dropped them down to the Medium preset to get that solid 60FPS although I'm sure I can get those settings a bit higher as I do my testing and still maintain that solid 60FPS. One thing to note is that there ins't a lot of support out there for this size/aspect ratio. In the diablo main menu the art assets are made for a maximum of a 2560x1440 display this goes for BF4 as well. I'll take screencaps later so you can see what I mean. Color accuracy has been on par for a display at this price point, although I have to note some backlight bleed on an all-black screen. I will update this with a picture so you can get a better idea of what I'm getting at. In conclusion, I love the size and screen real estate this monitor provides. Besides a few minor kinks in the transition to this higher resoution, such as those dead pixels and the backlight bleed. I'm very happy with my purchase and am excited to be using this as my primary monitor for the next few years. That is until a variable-refresh-rate (ie gsync freesync DP1.2a) version of it comes out. Update: Additional information about how the screen handles other resolutions from a comment of mine in another thread: (6/23/2014) Pictures [Dead Pixels] The last picture is of the whole screen displaying an entirely black image in a viewer. (taken with a potato) Please ignore the white lines on the bottom and right side of the screen. Instead take note of the glow in each corner of the screen. ----------------- update: added pictures quoted a comment of mine from another thread concerning this monitor

I havent built a machine for 8yrs, and havent really played a PC game since F.E.A.R, but was looking to get back into it, and ditch the PS4. The machine would be mainy for gaming, but I would maybe like to learn/dapple with video/photo editing, and I am currently doing digital forensics stuff so am using VMs. I may be able to use my laptop for some of it and leave desktop solely for gaming (FPS mainly), or maybe not, I am not sure. The UK seems to be pretty expensive for parts, and I am probably looking towards november to buy, will there be any deals (black friday, christmas sale, etc), or could i just buy when I see a good deal over the next 2 months? Cheers jim

Good People of LTT! (Insert stuff about this being my first post) 1. Budget & Location 1.500-2.500 Euros and Luxemburg (Europe) 2. Aim This will be my daily driver. I will be using it for gaming, browsing, internet, slight photo and video editing. I usually buy my games when they cost less than 10 Euros (looking at you, steam sales), so not playing latest AAA titles, I do however enjoy some eye candy every now and then. 3. Monitors Planning to buy LG 34UM95-P. 4. Peripherals No need. Have mouse, keyboard, OS, loudspeakers. 5. Why are you upgrading? My current rig is from 2007 I came up with this: 1 x Intel Core i7-5820K, 6x 3.30GHz, boxed ohne Kühler (BX80648I75820K) 1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport DIMM Kit 16GB, DDR4-2400, CL16-16-16 (BLS2C8G4D240FSA/BLS2K8G4D240FSA) 1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Gaming G1, 4GB GDDR5, 2x DVI, HDMI, 3x DisplayPort (GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD) 1 x Gigabyte GA-X99-UD4 1 x LG Electronics 34UM95-P, 34" 1 x be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 (BK019) 1 x Fractal Design Define R5 Black, schallgedämmt (FD-CA-DEF-R5-BK) 1 x TP-Link TL-WDN4800, PCIe x1 1 x Corsair RM Series RM650 650W ATX 2.31 (CP-9020054-EU) Total about 2.100 Euro Looking for your input on: 1) Processor: I picked the 5820k over the 4790k because I would like to have an upgrade path without having to replace the MoBo. Sound decision or not? 2) MoBo: Is that a good one? 3) RAM: good choice? 16GB for the time being, leaving upgrade path for 32GB if needed. 4) SSD: will be taken over from current rig. Not planning to add further HDDs to the rig. Have 2 1TB external drives, which should be enough for my needs. 5) Video Card: good choice? Is 1 970 good enough to power that resolution? As said before, I don't need to max out the latest AAA titles - I am totally fine dialing down a bit if required. 6) PSU: Not sure how much I need, so I just picked one. 7) Case Fans: How many and which? Bonus Point) I would like to try and make a Hackintosh out of this at some point in the future (only if possible). Your opinion on this? I tried picking components according to tonymacx86 where possible. Let me know what you think!

I just purchased a Dell Ultrawide curved display from microcenter. It was an impulse buy. Let's just say I always thought 'ultrawide' and 'curved' were gimmicks; but after owning this monitor for a few days I must say I freakin' love it. My question is about my gpu though. I have an EVGA GTX970 FTW and I get about 45-50fps in The Division right now. I am wondering would a 980 be a better option or would another 970 in sli make more sense? Link

Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade to a high end monitor and after some rigorous internetings I have found that either the Samsung S34E790C or the LG 34UC97-S are the droids, I mean monitors, I'm looking for. But my question is- which one?? Linus did a review of the 34UC97-S and praised it and he sort of did a review of the S34E790C (not nearly as in depth as the LG) but given that these monitors are so new I haven't been able to find anything contrasting them head to head when it comes to gaming. Both are nearly identical, the biggest difference being that the Samsung is a VA panel and the LG is an IPS. So you know, I'll primarily be gaming (mainly RPGs and what have you, nothing super fast twitch) and doing a little work on the side (nothing that I would need super color reproduction or photo editing). So anybody have an experience with these monitors when it comes to gaming? Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I'd rather not have to buy both and then return the loser, but I will, if it comes to it! Thanks!

I'd like to ask: Would this build be good enough to run most games at 3440x1440 on at least high settings at minimum 40fps? (monitor would be the Acer Predator X34) Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Hero Intel Z97 GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 980Ti CPU: Intel Core i7 -4790k 4.00GHz (Can be overclocked) RAM: Kingston HyperX Savage Red 16GB (2x8GB) 2400MHz PSU: Corsair RM Series RM 850w. '80+ Gold' SSD: Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD HDD: Seagate 2TB 7200RPM CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro H100i GTX OS: Windows 10 Case: Corsair Obsidian 750D Full Tower Case Now I'm talking games like The Witcher 3, Guild wars 2, Fallout 4, GTA V and Black Ops 3. Thank you!
