Hi guys, I need some advice from people that really know how cable bandwidth and monitors work. I have a pretty crappy computer with an intel i3-4130 CPU and a Asrock B85M-ITX. The ports for the motherboard are shown here. I use the integrated Intel HD graphics 4400 as my GPU. My motherboard does not have a displayport so I don't know what options I have to run the monitor at 3440x1440 @ 60Hz. Seems like HDMI 1.4 can only push it to a max of 50Hz. Would Dual Link DVI do any better? Is there some sort of adapter I could use to allow me to use a displayport to get 60Hz? Or is my only option buying the cheapest GPU with a displayport in built? Can someone advise me the cheapest way to get a 3440x1440 working at 60Hz? Thanks!

I wanna buy the 34UC98-W which has FreeSync (all other ultrawides are incredibly expensive where I live so I really cannot afford any other model). The 3440x1440 resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio ultimately sold me for the use I'll be giving to it. But I also casually game, and since AMD's latest GPU offerings suck hard (and don't seem to be getting better any time soon) and the monitor has a limited 55 - 75 Hz FreeSync range, I was wondering if it would still work if you downscaled the monitor to 2560x1080 just for gaming, using an RX 580 or the upcoming Vega 32. And if it did, what would that range be.

I am looking to build a computer and need help deciding between a 1080 and 1080ti. I am using the computer mainly for 3d design and programing aswell as light gaming(csgo). The resolution i will be using is 3440x1440. Will a 1080 be enough for my need and above 60fps gaming or should i get a 1080ti

Hi there, I'm currently planning a new build and was hoping to buy a 3440x1440 Gsync display along with it. Until yesterday I was set on getting a Gigabyte 1080 G1 with an i5 7600K that I likely wouldn't OC unless I needed to as I've no experience in OCing. But looking at benchmarks I see that I'll probably want a 1080 Ti if I want to be running games at 100Hz in 1440p Ultrawide. I play a fair amount of online multiplayer games including a lot of competitive Overwatch so I'm definitely looking for good frame rates. An issue is all benchmarks online tend to use Ultra settings. I don't know if were running a GTX 1080 on High settings whether it'd hit 100Hz on games like Overwatch or whether that would still be a struggle at such a high resolution. Ultimately my question is do I need the Ti for 3440x1440 at 100Hz. And if I do get a Ti, will I need to look into a more powerful CPU than the 7600K to prevent any bottlenecking. I'd really appreciate any kind of help anyone can give. Thanks.

I just got a Acer XR342CK 34" Ultra-Wide UHD IPS Free-Sync (AMD Adaptive Sync) Gaming Monitor,3440 x 1440. For now I'm testing it out and seeing if i like it or not. The problem is watching newer movies. Let me explain, each time i watch a older TV show i downloaded (a 2006 year season show) it works perfectly fine. But when ever i watch newer video like the new Power Rangers 2017 movie on either Movies & TV app or on VLC player, it would just sort of do a shutdown/restart about 20 minutes into the video. Playing games is not a problem, it works perfectly fine with games. Its just when im trying to watch something already on my harddrive. Is the problem with the monitor or something with my build? my previous monitor worked perfectly fine and it was AOC - G2460PF 24.0" 1920x1080. Using a FX-8350 cpu sabertooth 990fx r2.0 motherboard Radeon R9 390 8GB Video Card HyperX Fury Black 32gb DDR3-1866 RAM

Hey guys! I think I have a problem. I built my new flagship gaming build a few months ago, and I've been having lower than expected performance when comparing to GTX 1080ti reviews... Here's my complete part list: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/Dashrendar2507/saved/sD4jXL. Notice the 860w platinum PSU and 3200mhz RAM. Also, my monitor is a Samsung CF791, 3440x1440 100hz Freesync. I was looking at all the 3440x1440 benchmarks and reviews I could find, coupled with a GTX 1080ti. Even better if it was with a Ryzen CPU, but from what I've seen the CPU shouldn't make much of a difference at that resolution. Anyways, I really don't seem to be getting the same performance as what's expected from that card. in The Witcher 3, I have to lower the settings to medium-high (everything HairWorks disabled) to get ~80fps, and that's only outside: cities are a no-go, averaging 60fps, often less. Reviews run that game maxed out, and 3440x1440 gives almost 100fps. Same for The Division (DX12 cripples my FPS, but even DX11 is rough at medium settings, outside), and Rise of The Tomb Raider. Mass Effect Andromeda is particularly tough, but I think that game doesn't have the best track record for optimization. Crysis 3 also has to be downgraded quite a bit. For now, the only recent AAA game I'm comfortably running maxed out is Doom (2017, of course). BF1 is okay, too. I'd say ~80, mostly at High, with some Ultra and Medium. Star Wars Battlefront 2 Beta runs mostly 100fps maxed out, too. I'm sitting at 3.6ghz right now on the stock cooler because I'm gathering the money for a custom EK water loop. In the meantimes, should I push my tiny overclock farther on stock cooling? One important thing, my CPU is never maxed out when playing games, so CPU bottlenecking is pretty much out of the question. Sorry for not giving metrics right now, but ask and you shall receive. I'm just really bummed out that I have to drop the settings way down, especially when I compare to benchmarks and reviews. I know Ryzen CPUs are underwhelming at 1080p, but at 3440x1440 with 3200mhz memory, I would have thought the difference would be minimal. Do you guys have suggestions? Thanks a bunch!

Hello LTT, Long time lurker first time poster. Which do I upgrade first? I can't do both now because I'm a student. I'd love to purchase a 3440x1440 monitor but I'm a little worried about my current card (gtx 780). I mostly play the witcher 3 and WoW. My budget is 1k (I'm in Canada so that's not a lot, about $780 USD). What should I do? My current rig 4690k @ 4.7ghz 16gb ram 250gb ssd gtx 780 2560x1440 @ 60hz

Hi peeps, I would really like your opinions on which monitor to get: TLDR: 3440X1440 (with speakers) VS 32inch 4K (with speakers) vs 27inch 4k (with secondary 4k monitor) I run 980tis in SLI. I already have a Dell 2715Q which I love and a 27" 1440p monitor. So I'm happy with the 27" form factor but wouldn't mind a larger screen to watch films off of as I don't have a TV in my room. Dual monitor vs speakers I don't like the idea of having two monitors of different sizes so the Dell will have to go along with the catleap if I decide to get either the X34 or XB32 but I'll use the money to buy some nice bookshelf speakers (~$1000) In terms of initial price it goes, X34 > PG27AQ > XB32 here in Australia. However the Asus is actually cheaper once you factor in discounts and rebates. I would really like your opinions! I have consumed so many reviews and I almost bought the X32 today but got cold feet. I usually use dual monitors but as of late I've actually gone back to a single monitor instead. I like the idea of two monitors but I don't have the desk real estate for some premium speakers and two large monitors so It's one or the other. I have a nice pair of headphones so I'll only miss out in the sound department when watching films and maybe I don't get that awesome immersive experience of being able to game with sound just coming at you.

Hi All, I am about to buy a new monitor and graphics card, i would like to get an ultrawide 1440 monitor, Either the LG 34uc88 - FreeSync or the ASUS PG348Q - Gsync. now obviously if i get the cheaper LG monitor then i wont have Freesync on an Nvidia card so i will have to settle for Vsync. my question is, can the GTX 1070 run the latest games at above 60fps consistently so i can have Vsync enabled? or should i go for the more expensive ASUS monitor with Gsync? or is there a better ultrawide 1440 monitor and GPU combo i can get? any advice would be great, Thank You everyone!

I'm trying to decide between and ultra-wide 3440x1440, a 4k 60hz panel or a 2560x1400 100+hz monitor. I'm using the Asus ROG Strix GTX 1070. For 1440p high refresh rate I found the Dell 24 S2417DG for $499 with G-Sync and a 165hz refresh rate. This seems like a good option but I would like to what is available from the 4k and ultra-wide category for $400-600. Thanks!

Hey fellow nerds and geekers. It's been a while since i upgraded my i5 2500k CPU and I'm wondering whether or not i should look into getting a new one if it's a noticeable bottleneck. The RAM is also not of the pricey variety, so i'm wondering if i should look into upgrading that as well. My current setup is: MSi Gaming X GTX1060 Intel i5 2500k processor OCd to 4,6Ghz Corsair 16GB DD3 XMS3 1600MHZ (4x4gb) ASUS P8P67 PRO B3 P67 S-1155 ATX Monitor: Acer predator X34A iI'll probably upgrade the 1060 to a 1080 or a 1080ti when it comes out in order to utilize the display properly.

Hey Linus, I'm a big fan and have been watching your youtube exploits (hm, although you're not exploiting anyone) with enthusiasm. I haven't seen a 34" wide screen review for a while now, oh at least a year? Am I right? And I guess you're possibly waiting for something new and exciting to merit a new review but is there any chance you could do one for the Acer BX342CK? Soon? Ish?.... Please.....? I'm running an early 2008 MacPro with Bootcamp and a flashed GTX 770 by those lovely people at MacVidCards. I write music with Logic Pro X and Sibelius and use Adobe CS5.1 for photographic work, I also play GTA V for my sins although it is getting to be a dull game now, maybe as I am squinting on my 19" monitors to see my adversaries and end up dead on far too many occasions! I am probably going to keep one of my (2) BENQ FP91G's for displaying the mixing desk of Logic Pro X while using the 34" display for the main window, but if I game it will obviously just be on the main 34" display. I figure I won't be able to push the GTX770 much with my setup and I think that's as good as I can get on my present computer set up but it works well for Logic Pro X. Anyway, can you give me any advice on a monitor. The Acer BX342CK looks good but I am reluctant to buy without seeing at least one professional review. Thanks in advance

Hello geniuses! I have a fairly old system and I recently purchased a GTX 1080 card and its running beautifully (primarily playing Battlefield 1), and I also recently purchase the Asus PG348Q (3440x1440 @ 100hz) and was wondering if my old motherboard (Asus P8Z77-V) and old i5 3570k, which both max out at either 1x16 PCIe or 2x8 PCIe, would introduce any bottlenecks given the GTX 1080 SLI and 3440x1440 resolution. I watched Linus' video about him saying it won't for SLI 980s and read more about people running GTX 1080 SLI with my own motherboard (at only 16 lanes) and they said they had no problems, but they only ran the system at 2560x1440 (and probably 60hz). So the question is will I have any bottlenecks running GTX 1080 SLI only on 16 PCIe lanes @ 3440x1440 or do I need more juice? Thank you all!

Hello As I've been out of the loop for a while now, I was wondering if the community had some advice on what to upgrade best/first. My current build is the following: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i5-6500 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor $194.99 @ Walmart Motherboard MSI B150I GAMING PRO AC Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-2133 Memory $79.98 @ OutletPC Storage Crucial BX200 240 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $44.48 @ Amazon Video Card XFX Radeon RX 480 8 GB Black Edition Video Card Case Cooler Master Silencio 352 MicroATX Mini Tower Case $69.99 @ Amazon Power Supply be quiet! Lately been mainly playing Factorio, Civ and racing games but would like to get back into some good old RPG's (Witcher ofc and other suggestions welcome). Budget is as tight as possible because while I have a good income, we have a baby on the way (gonna game while I can ? ). I have seen a used 1080TI for €380, seems a very good deal but out of the loop and I can imagine the card will be bottlenecked by the i5. Open for your creativity!

Hey guys I'm putting together a list and I thought I'd see what you guys think of the 5700XT as an option. I'm planning on getting a 3440x1440 Acer ED7 34" and I like eye candy so 60 fps is my target.

As the title says, I'm planning to add a third monitor to the two 1080p60 monitors I already have. I am basically looking to upgrade in all dimensions and go to 1440p ultrawide and above 100hz refresh rate. After seeing the recent LTT video on repairing a monitor, I went on ebay to look around, but as there are very few broken monitors on offer here in Germany, I also started looking for working monitors. I am currently looking at these three monitors. The Acer Z35P is the one I found on ebay and may be able to get for 600€ (as opposed to ~770€ new). The Samsung and the Philips I can get from Mindfactory for 510€ and 545€. I guess now I'm asking if anyone has experience with any of these monitors (or other monitors that meet my aforementioned criteria). I have noticed that while on displayspecifications.com all three monitors are listed to have 100hz maximum refresh rate, on Mindfactory the Z35P has 120hz listed.

Context: I've got an old HP Pavilion Slimline desktop and want to run my new 3440x1440 monitor in full resolution on it for basic stuff like web surfing and word processing, no gaming or video editing or anything like that. To do this, I need to upgrade the GPU and it looks like the only GPU that will actually fit in this chassis and is compatible with the motherboard is a GT 630 (Kepler) 2GB ram (with HDMI). The motherboard is an HP ipsb-ch2 (Chicago). I've done some research and I think the GT 630 will work. But since I'm new at this, I thought it wise to double check with people who actually know what they're doing. This is the one in particular I'm looking at since it's the only one I've seen that actually looks like it'll fit in the slim case I have: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/VG-PCU63-002-299-2N249-X01A8-NVIDIA-GT630-2/163363260129?hash=item26093586e1:g:Ku8AAOSw5bxcJYJR:rk:7:pf:0#shpCntId (Shipping to Canada is outrageous, so I'd have it shipped to a mate of mine in the states and have him send it to me) Questions 1) Would this even work? 2) Do I need an HP-specific GT 630? Or will any GT 630 2GB do? 3) Is HDMI enough, or would I need DP? (been searching on ebay for a used card and none of them specify which version of HDMI the card has) 4) Is this even worth it? I'm looking at $50-$80 CAD for this card. Am I crazy for spending that amount trying to wring a little bit more life out of this machine from 2011?

I know these aren't the newest 3440x1440p monitors but they are currently the same price on Amazon and around my price range.Alienware AW3418DW: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Alienwa...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=1PPRGCEJ031SCD8J8XD4Acer X34 Pbmiphzx: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079FV8S5M/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1They seem to be very similar according to this list: https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/798743538I'm kinda new to the Monitor and Tv world so a lot of these specs don't mean much to me. A lot of the reviews and videos on these products are kind of dated with their comparisons with similar monitors of that time. Anyone willing to help me with my decision or maybe recommend me a better 3440x1440p monitor for around the same price would be heavily appreciated.

1440p 100hz Ultrawide stuck at 50hz (Displayport 1.2)
Doctorgear63 posted a topic in Troubleshooting
So I just received my new Samsung C34J79 Ultrawide. Looks all fancy and lovely etc. But on plugging it into my PC, in the monitor's settings it says the Recommended Resolution is 3440x1440 at 60hz, and in Windows it's stuck at 50hz. The specs advertise this everywhere as a 100hz monitor. It's a Freesync monitor, but I don't know if this is related as others have said they have had it running at 100hz out-of-the-box, running Nvidia cards. In the Nvidia Control Panel and in Windows Advanced Display Settings they both say it's running at 50hz, and I can't find anywhere to change this. I've tried running custom resolutions at 60hz and 100hz, but it's just totally unstable. I'm running a GTX 1080 with up-to-date drivers, with a Displayport 1.2 cable, and according to the monitor's onboard menu it's running at DP 1.2. It's a cheapish cable though, I've got a Vesa Certified DP 1.4 cable on order, guess I'll see if that fixes anything when it arrives on Thursday. If anyone has any other ideas as to how I can get my 100hz, I'd greatly appreciate your input (Pun intended). George -
Hello everyone. I currently have a Ryzen 1600 with 16gb 3000mhz ram and a 1080ti. I just got a new 21:9 ultrawide LG 144hz monitor. Previously was on a benq 144hz 1080p screen and this setup crushed every game, but now I'm starting to notice the FPS dips and input lag. Would upgrading my ryzen 1600 to a 3800X give me worthwhile frame rate improvements? I know getting a 2080 TI would definitely increase my FPS, but wanted to know getting a Ryzen 1600 to 3800X for 1440p gaming would be noticeable. Thanks!

Hello I wanted to check what should i buy. I am planing on buying 35" ASUS ROG TUF Curved VG35VQ and i have i7 5820k at 4.2ghz and GTX 1070. But that was for 1080p gaming. Now I think I should update my GPU. I was thinking on buying either used GTX 1080 Ti or RTX 2070S GTX 1080TI goes for about 150 usd cheaper than RTX 2070 but i noticed that for most games preformance is similar.

Hello all. Canadian here. I'm eye'ing a build for the longest time and it includes adding an ultrawide monitor to an existing 1080p monitor. And, from PCPartPicker, there are two monitors that I see that I like: * Acer Predator X34 34.0" 3440x1440 120 Hz * Asus ROG SWIFT PG348Q 34.0" 3440x1440 100 Hz They fit the theme of my rig very well. However, I'm open to other options. Forget about the money, I'll see about it when time comes. So, what's the best 1440p ultrawide monitor out today in 2019? (all usage) Thanks.

Samsung LS34J550WQUXEN 34-Inch 3440x1440 21:9 LED Monitor £289.99 It's also a pre-order as the monitor officially releases in the UK on November 5th, so you can pre-order it now for that price and still have 2 weeks to think/change your mind. A pretty sweet deal. Under £300 for a 3440x1440 (21:9) ultrawide, even the cheap Korean monitors on eBay are more than £300. It is a basic model though, only 60Hz (apparently overclockable to 75-80Hz but not confirmed), not curved, no G-Sync or speakers, but still for that price it's hard to beat.

I'm planning to finally upgrade my gtx 980 to a whole new system with an rtx 3080. I'm considering an ultra wide but I can't stand the idea of buying a $800 or more monitor. I've heard good things about both the Nixeus and the Viotek model (which I think have the same panel). Anyone out there know if one is superior to the other? I’m especially concerned about dark level smearing. Should I be looking at another monitor entirely? Thanks in advance!
