I've never really liked hubs because usb 2 was slow enough but with the increased bandwidth in usb 3 is it finally worth getting one like for instance if i had a 4 port hub, would usb 3 be able to supply each port with enough bandwidth if the devices I intend to use are USB 2.0?

Noob here just wanna find out how exactly it is that radiators work. I have a water extreme 2.0 and was doing some cleaning in my rig yesterday and decided to change the config from push to pull to see if it could help with the dust. I started screwing through the wrong screws and by the time i noticed and took it out i realized i had threaded through a section of the fins. I panicked cause all else i have is the Intel box cooler and no more thermal compound on hand lol. Surprisingly when i looked at the other side i noticed that i wasn't a first time offender as the holes for the push configuration were threaded into the rad as well. So you get the idea of how my radiator looks like it went to war without a vest. surprisingly i have no leaks at all and my temps are normal still and I've had this for over a year and its had those threads through the rad for over a year now. I idle at about 35-40c and at load get up to about 80 when its really stressed.

I recently noticed that when using any of my USB 3.0 ports (back and front) that none of them were working. Does anybody know what could be the problem? thanks

I'm in need of a new USB. I need atleast a 32GB USB for preferably less than £30. What USB would you recommend? I've heard good things about the Corsair Flash Voyager GT (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Flash-Voyager-Water-Resistant/dp/B008MCZI3W/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1376690283&sr=1-6&keywords=32GB+usb+3.0#productDetails) but I'd like to know what USB you guys would choose, thanks.

I have a Gigabyte HD6970 sat in a PCI-e 3.0 x16 slot on Asus gryphon z87 motherboard. Both the bios and gpuz say that the card is capable of running at x16 but runs at x8. Ive tried reseating the card, tried a different x16 slot, different motherboard (asus iv formula), changed the bios switch pos. Am i missing anything. The bios is on the latest version 1707.

I just recently put together my new PC: AMD Athlon x4 760k & MSI A78M-E35. I've installed W7 64bit and my USB 3.0 ports all receive power, but It won't see the devices I've connected. Is it due to that W7 doesn't natively support 3.0? My 2.0 ports work just fine. I've got plenty of power & all connections are correct because even the built in USB 3.0 on the board aren't working.

so sorry if this topic is already been brought up:/ but why do 2.0 peripherals malfunction when plugged into a USB 3.0 port? Mice stutter, jitter, or simply don't work. Keyboards miss key strokes. I have no cue whether its the line of peripherals that i am using? (High End: R.A.T. 7, Lenovo keyboard) (Low End: $10 walmart mouse *Logitech? maybe*, and a dell keyboard that came with my dad's XPS 700 series) It happens more with mice than keyboards, i'm guessing there is more information being transferred therefore more chance to mess up? maybe? and when i shop online i dont see anywhere that it advertises USB 3.0 compatibility, or cross compatibility. aaaaaand this is basically what happened........ this is my brother, and i think he has a z87 msi mpower max, and it has no usb 2.0 he says..... and i have a crosshair V formula-Z, and i have a cagillion of both. BUT when i plug my or his stuff into the USB 3.0, they malfunction. THANKS ALOT for taking the time to read this and possibly answering my question, "why do 2.0 peripherals malfunction when plugged into a USB 3.0 port?" and possibly giving me/ him a solution. raise your dongers for the forum!!! I know the 760 'Supports PCI Express 3.0' but will it work in PCI-E 2.0, does it even utilize all of the 2.0 bandwidth. Some people say it's fine, where as others say it wouldn't work, but I personally don't think the 760 will even go over the bandwidth the 2.0 slot offers but I'd rather have it confirmed before I spend my money on something I couldn't use. Motherboard (only thing relevant?): MSI 760GM-P33 Hopefully be upgrading soon, would rather buy a graphics card rather then a new motherboard first. Thanks for help!!

so i had my Asus GTX 670 directcu ii 2GB for about 1 year now and around 2 months ago i'v been having these weird problems related to my graphics card like when theirs a new driver from Nvidia i install it but after windows 7 says that "Display driver Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode driver, (whatever driver version I have) has stopped responding and has successfully recovered" and after like 1 week of like random black flashes and sometimes freezing when i watch a YouTube video, play a game or even do nothing (idle) it doesn't appear till a new driver release install. As well the graphics card isn't running to its full potential i mostly play BF3 and i got a sold 60+ FPS on ultra 1080p, but since this is happening i cant even play BF3 on ultra and get 60+ FPS now i get like 30 FPS if i'm lucky, so i had to lower the graphics down to high- mid no AA and still get 60+. so i researched around on this and found that this graphics card on some of them perform weirdly on PCI 3.0 so i went in the BIOS and changed the PCI to 2.0 it fixed the problem with the black flashing and the annoying message but still get the same performance in BF3 and other AAA games. does anyone know anything about this? or have the same problem? PC specs: Asus GTX 670 directcu ii 2GB Asus p8z77-v-deluxe corsair 16GB CMP16GX3M2X1866C9 256 SSD 2x 2TB WD hx750w corsair power supply windows 7 pro

My flash drive that is usb 3.0 doesn't run much faster than a 2.0 drive. I know that not all usb drives are created equal, and that mine wasn't built for speed. It was built for ruggedness, but now that I have a smaller laptop I can't put the flash drive in without it hitting the desk and bending the ports. Now for my main question: The controller on a usb drive regulates the speed for a drive right? Are the controllers on the computer for the usb ports also different and run at different speeds. If so are the ones on a computer usually higher or lower than the speed of the controller on the usb drive.

Hey guys, I just recently upgraded from windows 7 to 8 and then 8.1. I am missing this one driver. My USB 3.0 ports in the back currently arent working. I have a Gigabyte X79S-UP5-WiFi Motherboard with a i7 3930K. Here is what I am seeing.http://gyazo.com/53793fb0d207da8c60c11c942f9e42f5 I installed this host driver:http://www.via-labs.com/en/support/downloads.jsp#hostdriver and I also the USB 3.0 driver off of the Gigabyte website:http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4777&dl=1#driver I know it isnt the drive because it works in the 2.0 ports. Any help?

Are new cards running off a PCI-E 3.0 bus able to be used of a 1.1 slot? I am asking because I was going to get one for a lan PC using a C2Q and a 1.1 mobo (Didn't have 2.0 at the time and don't want to buy a 775 mobo now if I am going to upgrade later) I was thinking something along the lines of a 260X or 650TI BOOST 1GB. I have asked this A LOT on different forums but it's either yes or no, no actual answer with a source to back it up or proof otherwise. Any help would be much appreciated!

I recently built a PC with only USB 3.0 ports. When I tried plugging in my wired Xbox 360 controller, it never even got recognized, let alone play games. Someone please help.

Hey, before I get to it, i'm a new forum member and a first time builder. I decided to ditch my consoles (except for Nintendo), so I sold my Xbox and i'm joining the master race. Ok, I have a few questions on intalling Windows 8.1 on a 5.25" drive bay-less case (NZXT H440) so here we go: 1. What's better, an external optical drive or a usb flash drive? 2. If a usb drive is better, usb 2.0 or 3.0? Or does it even make a difference? 3. If I use a usb drive, do I need to keep it plugged into my system at all times? 4. If an external ODD is better, which do you reccomend? Thanks for the help, so far the forum has been awesome and the PC commmunity is great! If you're curious about the build just ask.

Hi guys this is a review of the Thermaltake Water 3.0 Pro. I have had this AIO for about 3 months and am very impressed by the results. My previous cooler was a crappy Zalman CNPS90F. Before I go into the actual results/review I will list some of the features/specifications: - 2 x Thermaltake 1225 pwm fans 99 CFM - 49 mm 120 mm radiator - High performance copper waterblock with pre-applied thermal interface material Not much I know but I can't think of what else to list here, post in the comments if you want me to add anything to the list above. Test Computer CPU Intel Core i5 4670k overclocked to 4.1GHz @ 1.26V Motherboard Asus Z87m-Plus Graphics Asus GTX 760 overclocked to 1122 mhz Memory 2x8gb G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 CL9 overclocked to 1800 mhz Drives Samsung 840 Evo 120GB, WD 1TB Green Power Supply Cougar RS750 Enclosure Zalman Z11-Plus For this test I plugged the pump directly into the power supply to insure it is running at full speed during the testing, the fans however were plugged into the motherboard and set to full speed. Note: For the area where is says CPU Fan please ignore the speed, currently I have a random case fan plugged into the slot. For stress testing I used AIDA 64 Extreme Version: 4.20.2800 [boxes ticked: Stress CPU, Stress FPU, Stress Cache]. For monitoring I used Real Temp Version: 3.70 Testing: All tests were run for 30 minutes, with ambient temps at about 27 degrees celcius. I also decided to do the testing at stock clocks and voltages. Edit: I re-installed the old cooler just so I could make some comparison between the two. The testing was also done at 27 degrees celcius. Results: ZALMAN CNPS90F Ambient Temps: 27o C Stock Temperature/s: [3.4 ghz voltage: 1.118 volts] Core 1: 64 o C Core 2: 67 o C Core 3: 67 o C Core 4: 62 o C Overclocked Temperature/s: [4.1 ghz voltage: 1.26 volts] Core 1: 75 o C Core 2: 79 o C Core 3: 79 o C Core 4: 71 o C THERMALTAKE WATER 3.0 PRO Ambient Temps: 27o C Stock Temperature/s: [3.4 ghz voltage: 1.118 volts] Core 1: 55 o C Core 2: 56 o C Core 3: 56 o C Core 4: 51 o C Overclocked Temperature/s: [4.1 ghz voltage: 1.26 volts] Core 1: 67 o C Core 2: 69 o C Core 3: 69 o C Core 4: 61 o C Conclusion: I was very impressed about the overall product. The build quality was fantastic in regards to the 'pipes' that carried the water from the block to the radiator and back. However I found that the plastic mounting mechanism used to hold the pump down the the board was VERY weak. Due to it being plastic the small metal heads that were screwed into it were constantly spinning which made it very hard to install without the need of a second pair of hands THey were easily manipulated without the need to worry about damage. The installation of the cooler INTO the case was very simple however setting up the initial mounting brackets on the pump was a pain in the ass. Even though there were instructions enclosed with the product I found it quite difficult to follow which eventually lead me to have to follow a video on youtube showing someone installing the cooler. Another aspect of the cooler that did not overly impress me were the fans. Yes they moved air however they were no where close to quite. Even at low rpm (about 613 rpm) I found them to be very loud but the biggest problem was when they ramped up. It began to sound like a turbine in my room due the sheer noise generated from the fans.

Hello guys, its been a while posting here... So I was kinda wondering about the performance of my PC.. I just need some little knowledge from you guys so I can clear up my confusion.. Will the performance of the graphics card with pci-express 2.0 decrease with the motherboard with pci-express 3.0? (Or vice versa)? Clearly I just want to know if its true or not.. I am not thinking to upgrade my system at any moment but this thing will surely come handy.. (Cuz I am using Gigabyte GT 630 with PCI-E 2.0 but I am ok with for now) Anyway thanks a lot and you can also put a huge lecture if you want to *cheers*

So I recently built a pc and the usb 3.0 is not working. In bios it is enabled and in bios it sees the devices but when checked in windows they are not there. We're running an asrock Fm2a78M-HD+ which supports usb 3.0. Also the usb 3.0 on the actual motherboard is not working. If you need any more specs just ask.

So, yesterday my usb ports started acting funny. I haven't done anything that could have caused it, I think. The only changes I've made is trying to install AISuite II, which didn't go so well. Anyway, now my front USB 3.0 ports and my rear USB 2.0 ports have stopped working within Windows. They still have power, and they still work in BIOS, but not in Windows. Here's the really weird part though, my front USB 2.0 and rear 3.0 works fine. Here's what I've done so far: 1. Updated BIOS 2. Upgrade with recovery disc, failed because of a missing driver (related?) 3. Reinstalled Chipset driver and USB 3.0 drivers 4. Uninstalled USB Root Hub drivers in Device Manager, reinstalled on reboot 5. Checked USB config in BIOS, all normal 6. Tried different hardware, USB sticks, fans, Wifi-card. Fan works, so there's power 7. Checked for loose cables, all fine Running Win7 HP x64 (SSD) on a Sabertooth z77 board. More specs if needed: i7 2600K @3.4Ghz 16Gb RAM ASUS GTX 780 DCU II

Hey guys, I'm the kinda guy that likes to know about everything, not in a social sense, but in a knowledge sense.. some would call me a knowledge whore I suppose.. Now anyways, I'm creating this topic so that I can ask this question: I own the ASUS M5A97 Mobo (1st revision), these are the PCIe ports it has -1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (blue) -1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, black) -2 x PCIe 2.0 x1 -2 x PCI Now obviously, My GPU takes up two slots and I also have a sound card taking up the only available PCIe 2.0 x1 slot.. http://www.ixbt.com/mainboard/asus/m5a97-evo/board.jpg My question is, given the fact that there are other slots available (none of them being the exact same pin number/layout - see picture), would my Soundblaster recon 3d card work with any of the other ports given that the top two ports are occupied and the 3rd port is where its at already? (refer to mobo link above) thanks for reading/answering iWearKiltz
