Hey, was gonna buy a 280x for $350, but i am now considering the 290 for $50 more. Is it worth it for the performance? All help is appreciated! 290: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1575&products_id=31273 280x: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=30668&cPath=877

Hi I'm looking for any AIO GPU water coolers for my new card. I don't believe in custom loops, too expensive for my taste lol. I have an R9 290 (non x) Tri-X (the newer version, model 11227-13-20g) and i was wondering what coolers would work with my card since even with the triple fan design things get hot with my current overclock unless i make the thing sound like a jet engine! price is a bit of an issue, so some cheaper options would be great, but if i need to save up i will! Thank you!

Hey Guys, i can get two 280xs for $380 or a 290 for $350 - $380. Would the 280x have better value than the single 290, or should i stick with the 290? the 280x are also pre owned btw

I'm considering getting gpu and my psu is 550watts. My budget is 250-500 AUD.The non reference 960's are $330 AUD. But a r9 285 is roughly 30-50 less. A 290 is roughly 100 more and a 970 is 150 more. I have an i3 4340 so will these cards get bottlenecked. Secondly I'm not going to go to 4k for a while , so should I get a 960/285 now or get a 970/290 and keep them for a longer period of time? Thanks for any help

You may have seen my last post from yesterday, asking which, from a list of locally sold used GPUs, would be the best card for the amount of money spent. After your suggestions, I have revised my choices and now have three top contenders. ASUS R9 290 DCU II - $250 Gigabyte 290 Windforce - $200 AMD Radeon 7970 XFX double dissipation - $200 Let me know what you think would be the best bang for my buck here! I really appreciate all your input, thanks guys!!

Hi, I'm looking to make a couple of upgrades over the next couple of months (or possibly half year depending on what the result is...). Currently, I have an XFX R9 270 in my system. Can't remember exact specs as I didn't buy it exclusively - it was included in a build I got. Since receiving the build I've got more into tinkering with computers (previously I'd only worked on laptops) and I've built a computer for a friend. So I'm confident in making a few upgrades to my system. Basically, the 270 is fine, I'd even go as far as to say good, but then it is the best graphics card I've used to date...... The problem is, it's driving a 1440p monitor. Brilliant for all of my desktop stuff that I do and photo editing, but when it comes to games (as I'm sure most of you will know) anything that's fairly graphically demanding has to be scaled down. It's also not the quietest of cards; very audible after about 60C. So, I'm after a new card that will play my games well enough (I'd settle for one level below "absolute maximum" in the graphics list on top games) at 1440p, but here's what (maybe?) makes this post a little different - I would like the card to be Hackintosh compatible. My 270 can work, but it's not the best and as result I've currently got rid of my Mac partition until I can come back at it a bit better equipped. I know that as a general rule AMD cards aren't the best for this, but I have seen some posts of people getting them to work and the price point makes the 290(X)'s incredibly attractive. If I were to go this route I would most likely go for a Sapphire Vapor-X (although I'm still undecided on 290 or 290X). Now on to nVidia, they have a higher success rate in Hackintoshes, but they also come with a higher price tag... I had originally thought of the 970, but after the recent news I don't know whether I should be put off or not, considering I have a 1440p display. I also have no idea which vendor to go for - EVGA look pretty trusted, but I really have no idea... As a general guide, here are some games that would be running (and would like to run) on the system: - Assassin's Creed series, including Unity - Bioshock series - Total War Rome II - Grand Theft Auto series (including 5 when it comes out) ...and a future game - Star Wars Battlefront 3 (obviously, no legitimate speculations can be made for this, but as it's a Dice game, I'm assuming it'll be similarly specced to Battlefield 4). Remember, all at 1440p...... Chances are, I'll need to make a PSU upgrade too, no matter what I go for. Currently I just have a 600W PSU. I can't remember what it is, but I'm fairly sure it's Gold rated and it's non-modular. I'm sure it's nothing fancy... I've seen Corsair PSUs, so I'd be inclined to get one of those (although I wouldn't know what wattage to go for), but if anyone has other suggestions and arguments on PSUs then I'm all ears. Just as a heads up, the rest of my system is as follows: - i7 4790k (currently at stock speeds) - 2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400MHz - Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3 - 2x SSDs - 3x Mechanical HDDs - 1x Optical DVD reader/burner - 2x 140mm Noctua fans (cpu) - 2x Corsair case fans (included with case) Sorry for such a long post! Any help at all will be MUCH appreciated, Thanks!
-
So basically I want to buy a 290, but I can't decide between a slightly cheaper Asus 290 or a much nicer but more expensive XFX DD 290.. I've heard some really bad things about XFX cards (and PSUs) dying prematurely.

I just bought a Sapphire R9 290 and I need a Cpu to pair it with. I want to run arma 3 with the best fps possible don't care if amd or intel £200 $300ish price range please no Amd fx 9590 because I don't want to spend more on water cooling. The Higher clock speeds the better. Any help would be greatly appreciated

So I recently decided to upgrade my gaming rig and I bought a sapphire Radeon R9 290 but now I'm looking for a CPU to pair it with around the £200 £300 price range and having a really hard time figuring out what to get. I don't mind if it's AMD or INTEL although the main thing I want to run as well as possible is ArmA 3 which tends to prefer INTEL. So what would you recommend as the absolute fastest chip around that price keeping in mind I've already ruled out the AMD FX 9590 as I don't want to spend extra on water cooling?

I'm trying to build a high end PC with an R9 290 GPU (that is the result of a debate vs GTX 970) The basic build will have 1x R9 290 but i'm planning to add a second with crossfire in a year in order to extend its usefulness (the reason i picked the r9 290 over the GTX is that the predictions say that the 512 bit bus will be important as gaming evolves and im trying to make a build that wont need to be replaced in 1,5 year) The target is a built that can stand high graphics gaming paired with recording/streaming So now im trying to pick between motherboards and cpus to achieve a good build (whatever i get will probably be OC a little) AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor kit: 140$ ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 motherboard + 60$ for water cooling + 200$ cpu = 400$ Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor kit: 140$ msi z97 gaming 3 motherboard + 34$ Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO cooler + 400$ cpu=574$ Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor kit:80$ ASRock H97M Anniversary motherboard + 230$ cpu= 310$ INTEL CORE I5-4690K 3.50GHZ kit with 140$ msi z97 gaming 3 motherboard + 34$ cooler + 280$ cpu= 434$ INTEL XEON E3-1230 V3 with 140$ msi z97 gaming 3 motherboard + 34$ cooler (i think the 212 is good enough) + 312$ cpu=486$ P.S. if the xeon e3-1230 can work with an asrock h97 then the price drops to 426$... but im afraid that i wont be able to OC with a cheap motherboard AMD FX-9590 4.7GHZ 8-CORE kit: 140$ ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 motherboard + 60$ for water cooling + 270$ cpu = 470$ Im seriously thinking about giving up, i've been researching for 2 weeks and im still no closer to deciding than i was when i started

Does anyone know the max operating temps of a Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X? Mine is running games at up too 75c is that safe? Also does anyone know how far bellow the max temps you should stay for safe long term running for CPU and GPU? My CPU is running at up to 55c with the max being 61c I have the stock cooler so that'll be why and I'm not to worried about long term damage for the CPU because I'm upgrading soon and getting a decent cooler but I'd prefer it not to blow up in my face

I just got a Sapphire R9 290 and I'm wondering do I need to connect both the 6 pin and 8 pin connections from the psu and is there any chance of over volting it? Also the 6 pin connector from my psu is red but still outputs the same 12v as all the others does that mean anything?

Hi, I'm new to the forums but am looking to build a pc. I am looking at getting the amd radeon r90 290 (not the 290x) from new egg. This is my first build so I don't want to spend a lot on a high end nvidia card but I also want good gaming performance. I am looking at buying the Asus version from newegg.com but there is also a sapphire brand version for the same price with an extra fan on it. Would one brand have better performance than the other or will they both output the exact same performance?

So i am getting a PC in two weeks and i am finalising it now but i am not sure which GPU to buy. i am currently looking to max games at 1080p for recent games and a fair few in the future. I am looking at the 290X, the 290 and the 970. I am not really seeing a reason for the 290x due to the similar performance to 970 at 1080p but at a hotter temp and more power consumption, but i thought it was a good idea to put out there. 290X - https://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-912v308001 290 - https://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-912v308002 970 - https://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx970gaming4g i am not set on buying an MSI card, they just match the colour theme i have of red and black in my build (no gpu yet) --> http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/gFkZvK I would prefer not to spend any more than the MSI 970 @ $525 AUD. i have looked at benchmarks and was just wondering if there would be a bad performance difference at 1080p between the 970 and others. the only reason im really considering this is because if i dont need to spend an additional $100 why should i? thanks

I am planning to buy a reference R9 290 so that I can water cool it. I planning on using the Kraken G10 but I can ot decide on a water cooler. I have a core i3 4150 with an h100i ( I know it is overkill but I will upgrade the CPU ). I have an S340 so I can only fit a 120mm radiator on the rear of the case. I am trying to decide between the Kraken X31, the H55, and the H75 ( I read it is an H55 with 2 fans instead of 1 ). The other optio would be buying one of the mentioned cooler and use the H100i on the 290 while I get the new CPU and use the 120mm radiator on the dual core i3 ( which does not produce a lot of heat ). What is the best option? Thanks in advance.

Which onr should I get? And what model? I'm building a brand new pc, and so far I only have a 240GB SSD

Which one should I get? I also got to consider the price

After much consideration i decided that i wanted my graphic card to be an r9 290 and i want to build a good pc around it. Im considering either a fx 8350 (going to try to overclock at around 4.7) or an fx 9590. In the future im going to add another r9 290 for dual GPU Im not sure about the motherboard though, for the time being ive seen the ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 and ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 Any suggestions on either the cpu or motherboard ? I've already thought about intel cpu but at the same price as 9590 (240 euros) i cant find anything worthy The rest of the system will have 16gb ram 2133mhz and an 120gb ssd (probably with an 850W plus PSU) Thank you P.S. note that the primary target is gaming and recording at the same time

I just built a new gaming PC and cannot decide which graphics card should i get. I first thought of the 970 for it's great bang for the buck and incredible efficiency but it was a bit to expensive for me. So i turned to the R9 290. It is inefficient and does not perform as good as the 970, but it is cheaper. With the new 960 (which apparently does not perform exceptionally but is really efficient) and the rumors of the 380X coming in Q1 or Q2 2015 and also delivering an incredible performance, I am truly confused of what I should get. Should I buy the 970 (although I would have to wait and save more money), should I buy the inefficient R9 290. The 960, 280, 285 and 280X do not appeal too much to me though, especially because I know I could get a lot better performance for like 50 - 70 dollars buying the 290. The other possibility would be wait until the 380X is out, which apparently is not due until some from now and I do not think if months of not having a GPU will be worth the performance boost. Also, DX12 will be huge and I am not sure if the 290 supports it. If it does not, then it would not be a future proof GPU for a long time. So,what should I do: should I buy now and which GPU, or wait. Please tell me what you think and why. Thanks in advance.

Is this card worth it for the price?

My little 7870 ghz is dying! It keeps Artifacting then freezing during games, i re-installed drivers and un- Oced it but it is still happening, warranty is up so im in the hunt for a new GPU. I dont wanna upgrade any time soon but i also dont wanna spend a crap ton so my max is like $300, unless i do amazon because i have $75 in gift cards. So this is my thought, i can get < \ http://pcpartpicker.com/p/QHMPhM This. Or I can just buy a 970. What do you guys think?

Hello, I'm new to the this forum, but I looked through and couldn't find anything similar to this. My Graphics card (R9 290 GAMING 4G) sometimes has screen glitches like this: I have no idea what could be causing this. My driver is up to date. I built this computer less than 1 month ago. I have reseated my graphics card before, to no avail. I can still return this graphics card to amazon (Only before 1/31, though).
