This is going to sound stupid, but I really need to bounce ideas off some people. If I bought a 27 inch predator monitor would it be a good idea to buy a gtx 1080 for about $650 or a gtx 1070 for about $435? If I bought the 1440p 144+Hz monitor for around $785 should should I spend an extra ~$215 for a gtx 1080? If I did that, should I just purchase the 4k 27 inch version for an additional ~$115 over the 1440p monitor? Or do you think I should just buy the $900 4k monitor and a gtx 1070, and then buy a new gpu next year? As it is at the moment I am leaning towards a gtx 1070 and the 1440p predator monitor, but I am thinking the monitor is something I will very rarely upgrade again. Extra thoughts for discussion. Would it be better to just go full out on the x34 monitor and then buy a gtx 1080 and potentially sli another 1080 further down the road when things get cheaper? I have mixed feeling about 21:9 because it is really great, but then at the same time I wouldn’t be utilized 100% of the time. Extra Extra thoughts, what IPS monitor would could compete with an Acer Predator? People talk a lot about other TN panels, but I am more interested in investing in IPS.

Hey folks, I was panning on making the upgrade to an ultra-wide monitor at a resolution of 2560 x 1080; however, I have a gtx660. I wanted to know if anyone can give me an idea if the card will be compatible with a monitor of that resolution and an estimate of what sort of performance I should see in the games I play. (I don't play any demanding titles, just Dota2, CS:GO, and Overwatch). Thank you everybody for the quick responses and solving my problem!

Hello everyone! This is my second post on the forums so do bear with me as I learn the format. Anyways... I have been thinking about making my workstation even more epic with a new ultra wide (ultra-wide? ultrawide?) monitor and I was wondering how it would effect my performance and what I could get for around a budget of $400 USD. My hope is to have a great monitor selected and preferably in my house by August 20th (having a LAN party with friends I want to show off my new setup/PC upgrades) though it is not really a concern if I get it after. System specs: CPU i5-6600K (Overclocked to 4.5 GHz) GPU GTX-970 Asus Strix 4Gb VRAM (Overclocked with +200 MHz GPU, +600 Mem MHz) 16 Gb DDR4 RAM at 3000 MHz (Is anything else relevant?) I was looking at some possibilities on Amazon just to gauge prices and what I could afford (don't worry I will shop around once I find something I like). Currently I am thinking about a 34 inch monitor (I'll visit my local BestBuy to look at how the sizes are in real life) that runs in a 21:9 aspect ratio with a resolution of 2560x1080. Now my current setup is running a monitor (BenQ RL246-Q) with an aspect ration of 16:9 and a resolution 1920x1080 with most games manually optimized to run at about 60 FPS with my monitor refresh rate of 60 Hz and VSync enabled. I also have a 21 inch 16:9 1600x900 monitor and another 24 inch 1920x1080 HP monitor (V242h). I have done some testing with heaven bench running at a slightly lower resolution of 2560x1067 to see how affected performance wise I will be and I am happy to report with some tweaking I will be okay. (I'll probably grab a 980ti or 1080 after Christmas or really whenever they are available for a slightly more reasonable price/at all.) My end goal is to have a nice big monitor flanked by the two 1080p monitors on either side (I love 3 monitor setups for multitasking). I am willing to make the sacrifices that are associated with ultra wide monitors (i.e. not all games supporting 21:9 aspect ratios and not all media having a 21:9 option, in the end I don't mind black bars very much as I have been dealing with them when I used to watch TV, or when I watch movies or shows on Netflix.) unless there is some very serious concern about owning an ultra wide it shouldn't affect me much. Any help would be appreciated even if not necessarily ultra wide related and I will be posting additional questions relating to monitors in this thread. Additionally, if you believe I would be better off grabbing something like a graphics card now and possible waiting for Cyber Monday in order to snag a monitor on sale or something like that please feel free to tell me that. Thanks and have a nice day! (Please post in the comments any grammar errors, I do a quick read of my post but I don't always see everything.)

Hi! I'm looking for new monitor for video editing. Soon I'm going of to college and I'm looking at buying one. I was allready looking at 4k but they are out of my budged. Currently I'm looking at LG 29UM68 and 29UB67, but as I'm a noob as it goes to monitors I have no clue which one is better. Monitor 1: https://www.mimovrste.com/led-monitorji/lg-monitor-29um68 Monitor 2: https://www.mimovrste.com/led-monitorji/lg-monitor-29ub67-igra-tom-clancys-the-division Please suggest best monitors for video editing purposes (color accuracy needs to be as high as possible). All I have is like 300€ maybe a bit more. Thanks for your suggestions!

Just wanted to say, first official post here. Anywho. I am looking into buying an ASUS P2B29HQ 29" 21:9 Monitor. Link to it here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EPY0HVY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER Just want to know if anyone here has this or something similar along the lines of this monitor. I can't find any decent reviews for it, so I just want to know if there's any input lag, any PPI issues. etc. I know it's no 1440p, but something like that will not be in my future anytime soon due to my budget. I am a gamer and a video editor so picture quality is needed. I don't want perfection (cause I can't afford it) but I also don't want rubbish quality either. I also dab in movie production and special effects so this type of screen is practical for me from a professional standpoint mostly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm probably going to replace my aging HP ZR30w in the near future and I'm looking for a monitor with the following specs: - FreeSync - 34-35" - Curved - 21:9 Ultrawide - VA panel - Refresh rate greater than 60Hz - Atleast 3440x1440 resolution Is there such a monitor? The closest ones I've found so far are Acer XZ350CU but it only has a resolution of 2560x1080 and Acer Predator XR341CK but that one has an IPS panel.

Hey everyone! I just picked up a 29" LG ultrawide (the 29um68-p) from best buy today ($200) and I love it. However, I also have two 24" monitors and a 19" (hand-me-downs and thrift stores) and I thought it would be awesome to have a single stand for them. I obviously the pyramid design (three bottom, one top) would work best in this case. I'll put the 19 on top, the 29 in the middle flanked by the 24s. I was wondering if anyone could recommend such a stand that is most importantly cheap. I can't bring myself to spend $100-$150 on a stand. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I was wondering if there was anybody here that owns the Acer predator x34 that could tell me if it is worth it / have you had any issues with yours? I would love to purchase this monitor but all the complaints and issues I have heard of people having with it is really throwing me off (although supposedly monitors manufactured in 2016 have been of much higher quality). The monitor costs $1650 here in Australia and that's not including shipping so as I'm sure you can understand I don't want to buy this and have it arrive faulty... If anybody could suggest any alternatives that offer the same specs ie: g-sync, 100hz refresh rate and a 21:9 ips panel being the main points of interest that would be great. Cheers in advance to everybody that helps me out, Hodge

So I am getting a new monitor for college, and I am unsure of what setup to invest into. My previous setup was 3x 1080p monitors that would honestly kinda garbage, but I really like the multitasking workflow of having multiple monitors. So I just wanted to hear people's arguments and suggestions about the following options. 1. 4k 60hz IPS with 1080p monitor on the side 2. 1440p 144hz with 1080p monitor on the side 3. 3440x1440p ultrawide 75hz I currently have a GTX 970 (big surprise) and I am not likely to upgrade in the next year or so. I want to use the monitor for gaming obviously, but productivity is also an important aspect of the monitor since that is what I will mostly be using it for. EDIT: might be considering another used 970 for sli if the price is right. And I likely would upgrade after next summer once prices on 4k capable cards go down and the weight of my wallet goes up

Hi everyone! I am in the market for a high end monitor, looking at 27 inch + 4k or 21:9 ratio monitors with a triple monitor setup. I have quite a few questions in my search for my perfect to near perfect monitor. My budget is £500 - £1,000 ideally in the lower range of the spectrum. My day to day includes video editing and gaming, games include things like LoL, MMO's like Blade & Soul to things GTA 5 and Witcher etc. Although I am a gamer I do prefer colour and overall better visual experience over response time which is why I lean more towards IPS over TN. My current monitors are two 24 inch LG 24MB35PY and a Dell U2414H which both are great but I've noticed that the LG has better colour depth, vibrancy out of the box compared to the Dell U2414H and this baffles me because they claim "unbeatable colour" on their box; for this reason I've had to adjust the contrast of the Dell to match the LG which was a hassle. My friend has told me from his experience with Asus and BenQ monitors that the colour on the BenQ was better. For this reason I ask which brands have good colours depth, vibrancy, clarity and accuracy or more specifically which monitors have really good colour depth etc etc. I'm leaning more towards 4k monitors as having such a beautiful visual experience is mind blowing for me but having seen x34 predator and LG ultrawides has put questions into my mind in terms of which to choose. Has anyone had experience with the two and have similar day to day tasks as myself, which do you prefer? Also in terms of the the curved 21:9's how are they? They look really nice but I fear in the a triple monitor setup they might look weird side by side. If by some miracle that you guys could recommend a monitor of my specification with a good response time that would be great but I know it's a long shot. Also in terms of stand and other things with the monitor, I used to like pivot, swivel and tilt but I don't see the need for pivot these days and only really care about good height adjust range, tilt and swivel albeit swivel isn't a deal breaker. Next is aesthetics, I like a clean and professional/ ish looking monitor and this is important to me which you can imagine is why I bought a U2414H (because of the nice looking stand and professional look) over a similar LG monitor because I'm a potato but oh well. Having G-Sync would be great as well! Lastly, VESA mounting would be great because having three 27inch + monitors on a desk requires a lot of desk space and a gigantic desk and having to get a desk that takes up half of my room isn't ideal! Thank you for reading!

So I current have a Benq xl2411z which is 1080p and 144hz. I'm looking to upgrade and move to an ultra-wide monitor as well as step up to 1440p however I don't really want to drop below 100hz as I am used to the smoothness of 144hz. I sadly don't have the money for a monitor like the Acer x34a my budget is around £600-700. Right now I am looking at the Acer predator z35 however this is still only 1080p and I have seen people say that it 1080 on a monitor of that size would look terrible. The other competitor is the Acer XR341ck but I believe this is only 60hz upped to 75hz with free-sync but I have an nvidia graphics card so I'm not sure how well that will work. Is there any point in me upgrading to a 21:9 1080p monitor for that kind of price. Are there any monitors that I am missing from my shortlist or are there any scheduled to come out relatively soon. I know the Acer predator x34p and z301c are coming in Q4 but I think they will be well out of my price range. Your opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

So i'm planning a new PC build and aim to spend around £1500 (~ 2000 USD). It will be based off the X99 chipset with a 5820k. This includes a monitor as I have previously only had laptops. The question is whether to go with a crossfire rx480 setup or single gtx 1070. At present I am leaning towards the 480s but only slightly. I will be getting a 21:9 monitor but am unsure whether there are any 29" g-sync monitors. I know that there are freesync 29" 21:9 monitors commonly available. Furthermore I could not find any 29" 21:9 monitors with a resolution of 3440x1080, and was wondering if anybody knew of one. Is freesync or g-sync even worth it. I recognise this is the graphics card section but that is ultimately my question: rx 480 x2 or gtx 1070.

I've recently been in the market for a 21:9 curved, 1440p IPS monitor and have stumbled upon these two: https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-34-Inch-LED-Lit-34UC97-S/dp/B00OKSEWL6 https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-UltraWide-34UC88-B-LED-lit/dp/B01B9IDL4I/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1467436599&sr=1-1&keywords=LG+Electronics+UltraWide+34UC88-B+34"+Screen+LED-lit+Monitor Apart from price differences as well as style difference, (I don't care about thunderbolt) I'm having a hard time differentiating the two of them. Can anyone advise why I would prefer one over the other apart from price and style?

Samsung to release their ultrawide 34" HDR Freesync monitor later this year. So Samsung has just released a youtube video, showing off their 34" ultrawide HDR monitor due later this year. We first heard about this monitor in December last year, but very little information has been given about it. Samsung however has released a video showing off their 2016 models, including this very interesting monitor. So let's start off with specifications of the Samsung CF791: 34" 21:9 size/aspect ratio 1500mm radius curve 3440x1440 resolution Contrast: 3000:1 4ms VA panel 100hz Quantum Dot technology used in Samsung's tv's to create HDR support Adaptive Sync/AMD Freesync support (max 100hz, min hz not published, but hopefully under 50hz so it can utilize Low Framerate Compensation) DisplayPort, and HDMI both support Freesync Samsung's Quantum Dot in their 2015 tv's provided a colour gamut within DCI P3, but not quite Rec.2020. So what colour space/gamut this particular panel supports is unknown. It should surpass the standard Rec.709 though. It claims 125% sRGB gamut, but sRGB is not an impressive colour gamut. Hopefully this is the same version of Quantum Dots used in their 2016 models though. Watch the presentation here, and to view the monitor. My thoughts: I'm personally a huge fan of curved ultrawide monitors. Both curved and ultrawide sucks for tv's, but for a monitor it makes sense: you sit in the sweet spot, the ultrawide gives amazing gaming experiences, as well as a workstation setup similar to a dual monitor setup. Because the screen is so wide, a curve makes the monitor more natural to look at. So far pretty much only the Acer XR341CK (and the updated XR342CK) has been useful ultrawide monitors with freesync. LG's have supported it too, but with such a small variable refresh window like 55-75hz. As long as this Samsung monitor will provide a min refresh under 50hz, the experience should be superb. Why 50hz? Because at 50hz and below, AMD's Low Framerate Compensation kicks in. It works similarly to a Gsync module, by doubling the frames to work at below the panels refresh rate. So say your fps is 32hz, when LFC will simply show the same frame twice, making the monitor run at 64hz. I don't know if LFC can do triple frames though. This will also be the first ultrawide monitor to feature HDR, which is basically a wider colour gamut + higher contrast + higher bitrate. So I assume this will be a 10bit panel with either a very high light emission and/or a very low black hue. Rec.2020 is apparently the holy grail and might not be possible until we see HDR OLED's or outright Quantum Dots OLED's. Until then this will do. So is this the perfect monitor? Well damn near it is. OLED + Rec.2020 would have made it better, but no such thing exists yet. LG's LM340UW3 panel, which is a 34" 3440x1440 144hz panel, won't be out until 2017 with monitors hitting the stores a year from now the earliest. Whether that will have any type of HDR is uncertain, but hopefully CES 2017 will be flooded with HDR monitors. Question is how this VA panel will fair against an IPS panel? UPDATE: Samsung has released official stats, and it is not impressive at all. The monitor is NOT HDR, due to too low brightness (nits), as well as a pathetically low 8 bit colour processing. That's correct, this monitor can only do the standard 16,7 million colours. HDR requires 12/14 bits of colour, but 10 bits would be a bare minimum. How Samsung is supposed to show the wider gamut of colour using the existing 8 bit colours is beyond me. This entire monitor sounds like a gimmick more than a useful monitor for anything at this point. I am sorely disappointed. The monitor is out the 25th of November in the US. No announced date for anywhere else. Source: https://youtu.be/8SYeb2zQ6fI Update source: http://www.samsung.com/us/computing/monitors/curved/34--cf791-wqhd-monitor-lc34f791wqnxza/

Hi, Due to some strange pricing in the UK I can get a 4k 60hz monitor for a very similar price to a 21:9 1080p monitor at 75hz both IPS panels with 5ms which I am fine with. Just wondering which you would recommend. Any responses welcome. Thanks!

I'm saving up for an enthusiast build and was wondering if there will be an ultrawide monitor with an 144Hz refresh rate. PS: Sorry if i sound like an idiot it's my first time here. I just discovered LTT a few months ago and become a big fan since then.

What monitor setup is most ideal and why? Which monitors/monitor setups would be the best for 1)Gaming 2) Productivity 3) General use 4) All around best monitor 5) Best aspect ratio

My current setup, running on a GTX680, uses two identical 27" 60Hz 1080p screens, and that's functioned satisfactorily for the last three years. I'm finally getting around to installing my X99 machine w/ dual GTX980Ti GPUs (bought the components, and then had medical issues that kept me away from being able to complete the build for a few months...) (so you can imagine my absolute thrill about the release of the 1080) and my intent is to run one of the ultrawide 1440p screens (I'm thinking X34 Predator or its recently-announced X34P successor) as the main display, but I am also thinking that even the ultrawide isn't going to be enough screen for me, as I am in the habit of keeping certain things (email, a browser, Twitter, etc.) on the "side" screen, while doing my primary activity (gaming or what have you) on the "main" screen. With me so far? OK, so, I am fully cognizant of the fact that in such a situation, the secondary display doesn't need to be a refresh-rate beast. If it can handle YouTube or VLC, that's good enough. The question is: under Win10, are screens of different dimensions and different refresh rates going to "play well" together? Or am I worrying myself over nothing?

ALRIGHT, HERE'S MY PROBLEM: I currently am running two GTX 760s in SLI and basically getting GTX 970 performance. I want to buy a 2560x1080 ultrawide monitor. Can I run newer games at max at 75 fps at that res with the 760s or should I get an RX 480?
-
Im currently selling my PS4 and two 760s on eBay to buy myself an 8GB RX 480 and an LG 29' IPS 2560x1080 75hz Ultrawide monitor (i currently own a 1440x900 Lenovo Thinkvision and want an ultrawide). Would I be able to get over 75fps (75 hz monitor) with an RX 480 on games like Overwatch and Dark Souls 3? My system includes an i5 4690k @4.3 GHz in case that matters. Thanks!

Hi, since I'm planning to upgrade to a 21:9 ratio monitor, I'm wondering what games do actually support it. I have searched for but didn't find an actual thread/list on what games are compatible with it. So would it be possible to start an actual list of the games that do support or do not support it? Cheers

Hi, i'm looking for a new monitor. I'll do some office work for school (excel, word) and I would love editing some footage made with my next camera (panasonic lumix g7) on a 21:9 screen So which monitor should I get? I don't care much on the audio side, mainly because I'll wear very often my headphones, but I don't anyway want a terrible audio, so I'm really divided: should I get the dell u3415w, which is an ips 34 inch UWQHD curved monitor, or the HP 34c, which is a SVA 34 inch UWQHD curved monitor, that costs ( in italy) about ~70€ more but has in the package decent audio. I have to say that I love deep blacks and high contrast, but i don't want bad viewing angles in a curved ultrawide monitor. So which one should I get? Are so much better the viewing angles on an ips display than on a va one? ore they're not worth the loosing of deeper black an the backlight bleeding? is the ~70€ price difference worth the decent audio or with this cash i can buy a better audio system. (but i don't want more cables laying around)
