Looking for a 17" laptop mainly for programming. Going into a CS Undergraduate this fall. Gonna be dual booting Windows and Linux. Budget of around $1000 CANADIAN. Please link things I can buy in Canada

My laptop has a few problems with overheating, especially at this time of the year. I already have an external fan which blows in air from underneath, but my CPU runs at over 80oC, my GPU runs at nearly 100oC when gaming and touching the laptop is like putting your hand in A oven, so yeah... I need a external fan which pulls out hot air from the side vents of my laptop so then the motherboad does not turn into putty, but not one which is so weak it does nothing apart from draining my battery (it is already draining fast enough as it is). It already has a standard fan inside pulling air out, so would having an extneral fan pulling make any difference? Anotherthing, I have been trying to find one on the internet but I cannot find any at all! Help will be appciated! :)

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums, but not to Linus. I'm currently building a new computer and I'm holding off buying a new monitor. Heres my set up I'm currently building. Intel i7 4770k @ 4.2ghz Gigabyte 780ti GHz @ 1100mhz Gigabyte GA-Z97X 16GB of Kingston XMP Beast Series @ 2400mhz Corsair RM 850W PSU I am wondering if I would be able to run games at 4K, with very high+ settings around 40+ FPS. I was wondering if this would be enough or would 4K on decent settings require a second 780ti? I was thinking about getting the Asus PB287Q (Which Linus just did a review on) I would love to hear your opinions and advice Thanks Jordan

Hi, I've started looking around for a laptop, and am wondering if I can get some LTT input. The laptop is going to replace a desktop. It should be able to multitask very efficiently, for that reason i'm thinking of a 4th gen i7 or would an i5 do? It needs to be large, but light. Here are some basic specs, some are flexible: - 17" 1080p (or 1440p) preferably IPS/touchscreen - i7 Haswell - aluminum unibody (or of similar build quality) <Not flexible - 1TB storage preferably hybrid <Not flexible - Windows 8 <Not flexible - longer than 4 hours of battery life <Not flexible Money isn't an issue, so budget is also very flexible. I've looked at Acer, Asus, and HP. Acer - R7 (i know its smaller, but i like the idea behind it) Asus - Transformer AiO P1801 ( i personally like this) HP - ENVY 17-j029nr (really solid computer) Obviously I haven't gotten very far, any help?

so im doing a new build socket 2011 im getting the asus rampage iv extreme x79 and the new soon coming ivy bridge e i7 4930k i no that asus have already done a bios update to support the new ivy bridge e. my question is how to i update the bios when im buying the cpu and motherboard without the update? any help would be great. do i have to somehow find a older cpu just to update bios or is there some other way?.

Hallo everyone So i recently started using a DVI cable for my second display( Had VGA before ). Its a 17" i think 1280x1024 and i get these glitches or whatever they are, sometimes when looking at pictures on the internet. Not always though, they go away if i take the DVI cable out and plug it back in, but they still come back. Any ideas? Pictures:
