This started out as sort of a budget build (keep in mind office furniture included) but as I got more and more into PC building and gaming I discovered ULMB, which no one seems to be allowed to talk about, for whatever reason. CAN'T UNSEE GHOSTING on this Acer K242HL (24" FullHD TN). I doubt it will be better on the Asus VN247HA (24" FullHD VA), as well as still running at 60hz (At this point I should mention I mainly play FPS and racing games). General consensus on 100hz/120hz gaming is no less than a GTX 1070 (right?), which gets bottlenecked by the Pentium G4560 (I don't see a difference between that and an Core i3-6100), so I'd need to step up on that. I'm concerned about if games will strongly prefer hyperthreaded processors, so I might as well move on to i7? Okay, might as well pay a 50€ extra for overclocking (includes mainboard). Oh, and don't forget the monitor, you need that. And I'm at 800€ on top (parts list here). Surely not worth ULMB at 100hz/120hz alone, then again, all the extra goodies, double the cores and threads, higher powered, appropriate GPU, overclockablity. This is far out of reach for me now as I was recently on vacation and will soon have to pay my driver's license. One and a half years of waiting at very best, as opposed to one year for gaming at 60hz. >inb4volta Also I'd like to keep Windows 8.1, because I have a few childhood games that do not run on Windows 10 and I have no plans of building a second machine for that. Will Skylake still be around when Coffee Lake/Cannon Lake/Whatever releases? So, what do you think, how would you opt? Thanks for reading.

So, I want to build my first pc, I'm on the ~$1200 budget (not US prices, it's a bit over $900 in the US) with a 1070 in it and I don't know if I should just build it in the next month, or wait until Vega comes out. What do you think?

Hello all, I bought a gaming notebook from ASUS ( GL702VS-RS71 ) @ https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA57X5B24180 Currently at stock clocks and settings fresh out of the box whenever I enter a loading screen (So far on WoW and league of legends) I get random artifacts such as a seemingly overlayed menu screen into the loading screen on WoW and on League I get random green, purple and blue artifacts on the black screen before I enter a game. I'm not sure how concerned I should be since games run fine but it IS a brand-new laptop that I just dropped $1,700 for and would like it to run like a new machine should. Also, an RMA wouldn't be possible right now as I'm in a deployed location and would prefer to exhaust the troubleshooting on my end before I RMA as I will have to wait until I'm back in the states. If anyone has any suggestions I would be extremely grateful. Thank you for your time, -Matt

Hey, I've waited over a year for Ryzen to upgrade my PC, Im still collecting some money and my current part list looks like that: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/David270K/saved/QHzLkL It will be upgrade from i3-4150 & 750 Ti, main purpose is rendering in After Effects, Premiere Pro & Cinema 4D atm., but also 2560x1080 AAA Ultra@60fps gaming, I was thinking about RX 580 cause of freesync in my monitor but Im scared it won't handle Ultra settings at that framerate (or wait for Vega?) Note: I have already bought the monitor over few months ago, so it's there only to specify that model Note2: Im living in Poland (yup, bad english) and prices ale slightly different but overall price is similar

Good evening/morning folks. I've been an avid watcher of the Linus Tech Tips YouTube, but have joined the forum tonight in desperate hopes that perhaps the fine people of this forum can help me solve a problem that has been plaguing me for a week now. I'll try to make this as detailed as I can, while still getting directly to the point (I'd rather not waste anyone's time). EDIT In the interest of avoiding the dreaded TLDR, here's the real short version of my problem I'm experiencing laggy and jittery video, regardless of whether or not the video I'm watching is in a browser, or is a movie file from my hard drive being played on MPC. I previously had a GTX 970 on this same system with no issue. I did a fresh format and install of EVERYTHING this week after purchasing a 3 month old Gigabyte GTX 1070 Mini from someone who took excellent care of it, but now suffer from lag, jitter and occasional screen tearing. In BF4 (the most recent game I own), the problem is present as well, though less noticeable. My FPS range from 37-62 however, and never higher (all default settings). The remainder of this post has as many important details as I could think of, and was done in an effort to avoid anyone needing to ask questions that SHOULD have been included by the OP (myself), as I see this often). Let's start with my build and get that out of the way first. CPU: Intel i7-4790k with an EVO 212 Cooler Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC Mate - BIOS V4.11 (I've neglected to update because last time I tried, it gave me an error and didn't want to reboot) Memory: G.SKILL Sniper Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 2400 PSU: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070 Mini Running 3 acer S220HQL 60hz monitors (2 monitors on DVI, 1 on HDMI using a DVI to HDMI adapter attached to the monitor) My windows drive is a Crucial M500. I also have a Kingston SSDNow V300 as a secondary drive for games, and then 2 1TB SATA drives for the "whatevers" (they're a little older but still function well). Lastly, I'm on Windows 7 x64 (I haven't done Windows update since the release...I mention this because I'm willing to accept that it may be part of the problem, but I tend to avoid updating due to past poor experiences). My most recent Userbenchmark results with NOTHING but Windows open can be seen here: http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/3530672 Everything is freshly formatted and installed with the latest up to date drivers on all, nothing over clocked except I guess for the DRAM if you count the XMP profile. Under a light load with both Chrome and Chromium open with multiple tabs (2 instances of Chrome, one has a video streaming), and several misc smaller programs (such as discord, mIRC and DisplayFusion), my CPU temp is 37-41C with the occasional momentary spike to 44 and my GPU temp sits between 48-51C. Under this load I'm using about 4.90gb of DRAM and my CPU jumps from 7% to 12% I have Vertical sync set to Adaptive in the Global Settings, Power management mode is set to Prefer maximum performance and Multiple display performance mode is on. So..my problem(s)? I find myself occasionally suffering from screen tearing in my browsers (I typically use Chromium as my main browser and Chrome for odds and ends), not all the time, but often enough to bother me and it's mostly noticed when I'm watching video. More often than that though, I'm experiencing LAGGY & Jittery video (not quite stuttering and definitely not buffering, but obviously less frames than I should be experiencing, almost like slow motion at times). It's not 100% of the time, but close to half the time. The browsers DO have Hardware Acceleration turned on (as this helped eliminate SOME of the tearing), and the vsync settings are managed by the global settings (I saw no change when I had vsync turned on for specific browsers). Here's the real kicker though and this is what bothers me the most...I'm also experiencing laggy & jittery video when watching movies through Media Player Classic off of my Hard Drive (it's the only media player I use), and I can't seem to fix it regardless of the settings I play with. Again, not 100% of the time, but far too often to accept. Rather than watching a person run from point a to point b smoothly, it looks like it drops frames in between, or adds additional motion blur that wasn't originally there (this is in movies I've watched over a dozen times and am familiar with, also files that I KNOW are good) Previously I was running a GTX 970 with this exact same system and wasn't experiencing these issues (not that I can recall anyway...maybe I'm just paranoid and expecting too much?), but it had been a year since I formatted, so maybe there's a setting somewhere I'm forgetting. In BF4 (the most recent game I own), running only on 1 monitor, I get low framerate warnings almost non stop, regardless of low ping and fast internet, dropping as low as 48fps just in the menu screen alone. In game my FPS ranges from 62 with dips all the way down to 37, and I will notice the occasional jitter. According to the System Performance Test, my system is in good condition, yet my FPS according to the test are 67. I'm desperate for help here...I've been at this for a good week now trying to make things run smoothly, and I don't feel like this should be the limit of my performance. I've actually downgraded to the 375.95 drivers per the recommendation of a friend, but saw little difference. I realized a little too late in the game that my DRAM is 1.65v, and according to PC Part Picker: "The G.Skill Sniper Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1.5V voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the Intel recommended maximum." This now has me concerned that I may have caused some damage by using the XMP profile and pushing the ram beyond the board's limits. Is that a possibility?? I've since disabled it, causing my ram to want to run at 1333...my performance has only gotten worse as a result. Quite a bit worse actually. I also turned on Triple Buffering momentarily, but saw no improvement. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated folks. Thanks very much in advance.

Hey i have finally decided to build a pc and would like to hear any feedback and recommendations you guys have. It will be mostly for gaming and editing. My budget can be adjusted. I plan on overclocking this beauty. Because i never had an PC i need all the peripherals, so if you can recommend something that would be great. Now to the system: CPU: Intel i7-7700k 4,20 gHzCPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken AIO x62Motherboard: Asus STRIX Z270-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 MotherboardMemory: HyperX Fury 32GB kit 2666MHz DDR4 Non-ECC CL15 DIMM (is this compatible with the rest?)Storage: Samsung 960 EVO MZ-V6E250BW Interne Solid State Drive (250GB)Video Card: Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX1070-O8G GamingCase: NZXT S340 Elite white Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home Full - USB 32/64-bit Stuff I Still need 1 Monitor: should be 27 inches and 4k 2 Mouse: something cool not to complicated 3 Keyboard: RGB would be nice but is not necessary, numbpad is important and it should be as small as possible (this will be for gaming) for editing and work i will use the Apple keyboard 4 Headset: i dont really care, but a microphone would be nice So if you want to rate this system and give me some advice feel free to do so. And for the stuff i still need, just say what you like and happily use. Thanks to every one in advance.

Hello boys and gals, So, my 1070 has been acting out lately. Hadn't played Battlefield 1 since a month and today I played (with the new spring patch installed for the first time) and noticed fps in the region of 40 (both on ultra and low). I checked my gpu usage in Afterburner and saw a ~40% usage (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) which is pretty weird. Cpu runs on 80%-90% usage, which it does always on bf1. Next up, unturned. You know, that F2P game on steam with Minecraft-y graphics? Well im getting 30-40fps there too, with stuttering (both ultra and low). So wtf is going on with my Strix 1070 (running on +150mhz core, +500mhz memory and yes, I tried w/o overclock, no change)? Driver is 381.89 which i just installed to see if there was any change (there isn't). Please help me! Thank you!

I want to know what the best gtx1070 is
-
Hey guys, So i got a Evga gtx 1070ftw and im about to install it. im aware it needs 2x 8pin connectors and the psu i got has two different vga cables. Both cables are identical, they have an 8pin on one side to plug the cable to the psu and on the other side they both have a 6 and a 6+2pin. If im going to need 2x8 pins for the gpu it means i will need to use both those cables, but what will i do with the spare 6pin on both those cables? Will i just leave them hanging there?

Hey everybody, So I have this build and I finally have enough money to upgrade the GPU. Now I am stuck between choosing a 1060 with this monitor or only a 1070. the monitor with the 1060 would be my new screen and the one i currently have will become my second. the 1070 would only power my monitor i have now and in the far future maybe a 1440p screen. What would be the best choice? Get high gaming performance now (1070) or get good gaming performance(1060) with a dual screen setup (only gaming on 1 screen)

Alright I need some advice. I have decided to build a PC and have decided on all the parts except the graphics card. I originaly was going to go with the rx 480 nitro + but then I saw how cheap the 1070 dual asus was. The hardest part is that I got a 144hz 1080p freesync monitor back in January so now I'm not sure if I should push it back and wait for vega. Any advice would be helpfull.

I was wondering if anyone has 2 ASUS Strix GTX1070's in SLI on a ASUS Strix Z270E. I currently have 1 on the board and it looks like another card won't fit for an SLI setup and I don't want to spend the money just to return the product. Take a look its really close and the cards will be like right on top of each other. This might be a stupid question cause the board is mad for SLI but I have never done SLI before.

Should I get a dual SLI 1050 Ti or a single 1070?

Hello fellow enthusiasts. I am looking for some help in determining which would be the better option for the 2 separate builds that I have planned out. Suggestions for improvements welcomed but I am trying to keep total cost around 1300 the best I can. I have been told that the Ryzen 1600 would fair better than the i5 7500 which Linus just used in his new build video. I know the peripherals I have are cheap but I am not really too worried about that. Thanks in advance! https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Fatido/saved/#view=ZVv7P6 https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Fatido/saved/#view=ZCjkLk P.S. I think this would make a great build vid for @LinusTech also.

What GPU will fit the best with my system? MSI gtx 1060 gaming x with 2 1080p screens ( already have 1) or the msi gtx 1070 gaming x with 1 1080p monitor (already have this one) Budget €500,- Location: The Netherlands

Hello, I'm new. Also new to building PCs. I'm looking at ordering parts for my first build soon. I know what I'm looking for, but I'm needing advice on the right GTX 1070 for a Thermaltake Core V21 case. I really don't know which 1070 card to get. Should I get a blower, Superclocked, or FTW edition? I'm more concerned about thermals. The case will be Aircooled for now as I am not ready to get into the world of water cooling. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks

So i'm planning on build a new pc and i can't decide between these two brands zotac and msi, what i'm looking more is temperature, since most of the time here the room temperature is at 25º-37ºC on summer and autumn. I've been told that the MSI Gaming X does have good cooling with it's two fans which i don't know what size are. And i've been looking the Zotac Amp Extreme for a long time, because is a huge card, plus it does have 3 90mm fan, and the radiator is what makes it so big (sorry, no pun intended). Also, the color theme of the build will be red, white and black, i'm getting a Gigabyte GA-z170x-Gaming 7, G-Skill Ripjaws V Series and the case is the s340 (red/black), also i'll get 16pin and 8pin custom sleeved cables to match the theme. I think the MSI quicksilver would fit nicely on the build because of the silver color, and if i go with Zotac, the backplate will ruin the look becasue of those two yellow bars. If i go with Zotac i may be able to paint it with red, it'll look more or less like this, i'll use plasti dip so the paint can be removed easily afterwards, the only problem of this is that there are little diesigns on the bars and it'll be really hard to not paint these.

So i am currently playing doom on my 750ti and its struggling with everything turned down to either low/medium. I feel like i am missing out on graphics. I am looking at upgrading to this http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/components-and-upgrades/graphics-cards/pny-geforce-gtx-1070-graphics-card-10157449-pdt.html Just wanted to know if its worth and the card is any good.

Basically, gigabyte has had a great little card available for a long ass time. Shortest 1070 (and 1060) GPU and wonderful performance even if its no OC champ. MSI just threw their hat in the ring with an 15mm longer 1070. Due to money restrictions I'm waiting until VEGA (happy coincidence) and hoping for an ITX vega like a new gen R9 nano "ryzen" from the ashes. In all seriousness though, is it likely either of these cards will have a price drop if/when ITX vega drops? https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/8fgPxr/msi-geforce-gtx-1070-8gb-video-card-gtx-1070-aero-itx-8g-oc https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/nQPzK8/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1070-8gb-mini-itx-oc-video-card-gv-n1070ixoc-8gd PS. anyone with 1070's how do 1080p/1440p ultrawides run? How about standard 1440p 100+Hz? Looking for personal experience please.

I have looked at multiple versions of the 1070 as I plan to buy one soon. Opinions on a few of the better ones. Ty

At the moment i have the problem that i want to upgrade my Computer, so i was thinking about the new gpus. Now i cant chose.. what i should buy, i want to play stuff in VR.. and some month later i would like to play on wqhd. The hardware that i buy should be future proof too. At the end i dont want to waste money.. but i dont want to be angry at the end of the day because i didnt spend what i could spend. Many people that i asked sayed it would be overkill.. and soon i need to buy a new gpu anyway and at some point theyre right. My Specs: Nvidia MSI 960 4gb, 8 gb ram, Mainboard: H97-HD3, I5-4690 i know that my CPU would bottleneck the new Gpus too.. but maybe i could upgrade this in the future. should i forget something important plz say it.. Oh and i want to play Star Citizen sooo Good Day ! Sry for bad english
