Hey guys, This is the final version of my first build. I have done a LOT of research, and while there is always more to learn, I feel confident moving forward with this build. At this point, I have set my budget at 950 euros or $1060 according to Google. The rig will be for 1080p gaming at max settings and also for general browsing/editing/school work/media centre, one could say an all purpose system with a focus on gaming. Here is the final version: CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3-1600 2x4GB kit SSD: Samsung 850 EVO M.2 120GB HDD: WD Desktop Blue 1TB 7200 rpm GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4G OC PSU: Cooler Master V650 80+ Gold Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced Coming in at €935 or $1040, it's not bad at all. It's under budget, although only barely. All the prices and parts are from www.computeruniverse.net which is a really great site. They deliver everywhere, but it's especially useful if you are in Europe and while it's a German site, they have everything in English too. Prices here are definitely cheaper than Amazon.de. For example the MSI GTX 970 is 304 euros, down from 344.54. That's an 11% discount! Even with additional dispatch charges of 18 euros to Switzerland, it does not compare with the Amazon price of 368 euros (338.72 for a second hand card, but hell no) You may have to create an account (for free) to see the nice discounts though. Only reason for using this site is because I live in Switzerland so I can't use pcpartpicker except for viewing the power requirements and compatibility. Here is the link to the same build on pcpartpicker: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Lyw8Bm I know that for my first pc build, I shouldn't/don't need to overclock, especially at just 1080p. But I really want to learn how to do it because personally I think it will be a blast and I'm doing for the experience and enthusiasm. I'll be using and upgrading this build for a long time so I don't mind putting some money into it. The motherboard explains itself, need a Z97 chipset to overclock. The MSI board may not be jam packed with every feature, but it has everything I need or will need, including SLI support and RAID. The Krait edition also has the bonus of looking just fantastic! The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is a must have for overclocking. Kingston for the ram, 8Gb at 1600 MHz, pretty standard. For the absolute beast of a GPU, I went with the MSI GeForce GTX 970 4G OC edition. I've heard good things about MSI cards, and the 970 has an excellent price to performance ratio. Side note: I would have gone with the similarly priced R9 390, but I don't need 8GBs of memory for 1080p, and I was more concerned with the increased power consumption and higher temps, especially when overclocked. The 970 that I chose is already overclocked, and I'm assuming temps won't be quite as high given it's more efficient power consumption and MSI Twin Frozr V cooling system. The other jewel of this build is the Samsung M.2 120GB SSD, which was only a couple of euros more than the 2.5 inch version. The MSI board supports M.2 so I thought why not add an ultra fast SSD? WD 1TB Blue hard drive is for mass storage of games, files, movies, music, etc. For the PSU, I went for the highly recommended Cooler Master V Series 650W 80+ Gold. This is listed as a Tier 1 PSU on tomshardware so I had to go for it. Finally, to put all this together, I have the Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced. I went with this case for two big reasons. One being that it has a removable hard drive cage for amazing airflow from the giant 200mm front fan, one of two that are included, plus an additional 120mm rear exhaust fan. The second reason is that it has so many expansion and upgrade options that I won't need to change the case any time soon. Whew. Sorry about the flippin' essay! I'm just really excited and can't wait to build this amazing system. I think the only way I won't build this system is if prices dropped suddenly on the new Skylake CPUs and Z170 motherboards, which is highly unlikely. So please let me know any thoughts, comments, and whether any of these components wouldn't work in this config. Thanks to everyone for the amazing support!

I have what (I hope) is the final version of the parts for my first custom build. If there are any suggestions that you have, please provide justification for your advice. I need Wifi on the board, just an FYI. I don't plan on doing OC'ing, so the Xeon should be fine for me. MITX is a necessity for me (at least for this build). PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FbyKQ7 Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FbyKQ7/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($252.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: ASRock Z97M-ITX/AC Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard ($121.98 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($51.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Crucial MX100 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($73.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X OC Video Card ($268.98 @ Newegg) Case: BitFenix Prodigy (Black) Mini ITX Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($84.99 @ NCIX US) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32/64-bit) ($89.99 @ NCIX US) Total: $999.90 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Input is appreciated! EDIT: On an unrelated note, if you can add 9 cents to the build, that would be cool, because I would then have a $999.99 build

What's the best laptop I can get for around $1000? I would appreciate it being cool and quiet as well as having a good build quality. It shouldn't be made of any material which get's dirty quickly like rubberised plastic or brushed aluminium. It shouldn't also scream gaming like some MSI laptops with their aggressive style. EDIT: I plan to do light-medium weight gaming and light video editing like some gaming videos and such.

I will be building my first pc soon. I am wondering what the best option would be. My budget is $1000 CAD. Hey guys, as I said, I got a $1000-1100 budget (US dollars) to build my very first gaming PC. This budget does not include monitor, mouse, headset, nor taxes. I should tell you guys I have a very small knowledge about computers, so I do require your help. This is something like my dreamed build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Tetika/saved/#view=nsLKHx But I cannot go that far from my limit. My basic requisites are: at least 8 total RAM, something equal or better than a r9 280 4gb video card, I guess the case and keyboard I chose are almost definitive, I prefer Intel over AMD, Microsoft 7 64bit. I also need this PC to run games like GTA V, BF4, etc at a decently high quality. Also, since I do not know anything about overclocking you guys do not need to worry about that. Thanks in advance Edit-able link: http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/ I may add that I live in Costa Rica, so items capable of being shipped there and with an easily-claimed waranty are prefered. I also got a ZIP code in Florida, Miami too.

Hi there, lately I've had a couple of friends ask me about parts for a new PC, and I gladly accepted their offer. He is going to be funding it off birthday moneys, still no job for either of us, and that should hopefully bring his budget up to 1K AUD. He already has plenty of RAM (3 x 4GB), a HDD, headset, keyboard and monitor, and all he needs is a CPU, motherboard, case, PSU, GPU and mouse. He isn't one to play the most demanding games, with him primarily playing LoL, but he often plays games like BOII, Skyrim and some other varying games. He refuses to tell me what his current PC specs are, and I have almost killed him for not doing so. I've already created a parts list, but I was wondering if I should stick a 212 EVO in there, or bump the case up to an S340. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($313.00 @ Scorptec) Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($140.00 @ IJK) Case: BitFenix Comrade ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.00 @ PCCaseGear) Power Supply: Cooler Master VSM 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($124.00 @ CPL Online) Mouse: Corsair Raptor M45 Wired Optical Mouse ($68.00 @ CPL Online) Other: DIV1D3's R9 280X Windforce 3X rev. 2.0 ($280.00) Total: $984.00 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-02-15 23:05 EST+1100 He says that he won't bother with OCing, so that makes me lean towards the case upgrade, but are there any other improvements that can be done? Also keep in mind both him and I live in Aus, so Newegg or Amazon will not help. Cheers!

I am building this pc so far, I have this just about built I will explain the best I can. I have the processor, motherboard, GPU, CPU cooler, and the hard drive but that is interchangeable. Any suggestions on what to change? I live in the US and near a Micro Center. I plan on gaming in intensive games like Battlefield 4 and Far Cry 4. ( I am looking to play on highest settings 1080p) To explain why I have that GPU, I have it as I had a old prebuilt pc from HP and I slap a graphics card in there and it solved my problems playing Minecraft and things like that. So what would you have changed and what would benefit me in the items I have not bought? What alternative GPU could I get for around $150-$200?

I've already seen the Panasonic LUMIX GH4 which seems like an amazing DSLR but in the way of good camcorders. NEEDS: - Support for at least 128GB sd card - Capability to attach shotgun microphines and video viewers (or whatever they are called) - Good quality

If you're able could you design a €1000 PC build for me (excluding the operating system!). I'm not going to overclock my PC, and I want something really good for gaming. (Don't include keyboard, mouse or monitor).

Can somebody give me a list of good parts for a computer. My budget is around $1,000 including screen, keyboard and mouse. This computer is not going to be used for gaming very much. It is going to be used for multipurpose things like programming, a little video editing, web surfing, etc. I would also like it to include a DVD drive and a good pair of speakers. I live in the USA. It can be any color or a mix of colors. I don't care about noise. And I would like it to be a ATX or mATX size. I am not picky with the screen but would like a back-lit keyboard and cordless mouse. I don't need a expensive graphics card but would prefer Nvidia. thank-you

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3rzTgs Here is my $1000 Build! I plan to get this and spend 400 dollars on a monitor and Keyboard Also extra case fans. I wanted a cooler for my cpu however ... I am not overclocking after all so i think the stock cooler will be fine. Please if you can try and recommend one ... just i hope it would look nice and will help keep the overall price with in $1000 dollars. I really wanted some feed back on my system. I opted for a i7 processor overall. I feel this may be a good system for those wanting to edit videos and wanting to game. It seems like a good build overall. PLEASE HELP IT BECOME BETTER OVERALL I REALLY WANTED THIS TO HAVE A $10 SO SHIPPING AND TAXES COULD BE PAID FOR ... MAYBE ALSO .. can you please recommend a monitor that is 120hz or higher? Under 300 would be nice.

Hey Guys! Looking to buy a PC tomorrow and wanted some opinions on my parts lists! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To give you some context. I'm a high PC user in general who does lots of video editing. My main games are CSGO, LoL and some BO2. I Want to stream with relatively no issues, Also not super looking to overclock anything. YT Commentary is in there to so I wanted a relatively quiet build. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Option 1: (Which I'm leaning towards is) - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GjgGgs CPU - AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz - $164.99 CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler - $27.99 Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard - $69.99 Memory - Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory - $85.99 Storage - Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive - $97.95 - WD Green hard drive - $72.99 Video Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card - $204.99 Case - Fractal Design Define S ATX Mid Tower Case - $69.99 Power Supply - Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply - $59.99 Operating System - Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) - $89.99 Total: $944.86 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Option 2: - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/X9kpkL CPU - Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz - $242.99 Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard - $87.99 Memory - Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory - $85.99 Storage - Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive - $97.95 - WD Green hard drive - $72.99 Video Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card - $204.99 Case - Fractal Design Define S ATX Mid Tower Case - $69.99 Power Supply - Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply - $59.99 Operating System - Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit) - $89.99 Total: $1012.87 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Open to more opinions and thoughts on these! Here my thoughts on why I pick some of these parts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RAM - I definitely wanted 16 gigabytes of RAM because I find myself maxing out 8gb and 16gb I hear is great for streaming and video work I hear. Storage - For a SSD I hear 240gb is the sweet spot for space. And for rendering/video work I wanted a relatively fast and reliable SSD so I opted for the more premium Samsung model. I wanted 2Tb for sure I'm just about maxed out 1Tb right now and I wanted to go for more premium again and went with a Western Digital hard drive. Video Card - In the future I'd like to get a better graphics card. But right now I'm gaming at 1080p with light titles so I think a 960 will do just fine. (Beats my 650m by a long shot) Was thinking EVGA right now because they have the best price on NewEgg. And it comes with all the other 960 features + A game, And Back plate. Case - More premium case than most I know But I like the clean design Which I prefer. Also is it has sound dampening foam and is a nice case all around. Power Supply - Don't need anything fancy I hear Corsair is a reliable brand for power supplies so not much to it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's the basic parts I don't know too much about either of the motherboards besides that they're well rated and from gigabyte which is a trusted company and that there cheep. I won't be super overclocking I figured a more expensive board isn't worth it. (opinions are welcomed) So the second part of this is AMD vs. Intel. AMD is cheep which i'm all for! But someone said the Intel would be a lot better for video work. (and I wonder if it has a slight Edge for gaming to) PassMark says that the Intel CPU is about 600 ponits better at 9,580 vs. AMD at 8,980. But I don't know how much that translates to real world use. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Side note What Does this mean? Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs. Other peripherals Upgrades down the line $79.99 - CM Storm QuickFire TK Mechanical Keyboard $45.99 - Dual LCD Monitor Desk Mount Stand $199.99 - Acer GN246HL 1080p 144hz Monitor $26.19 - LG USB 2.0 External DVD Drive That's pretty much it any help would be great! Thanks for reading. - Matt

I am building my first PC and I've been throwing around parts and changing ideas steadily for the last few weeks. my priorities are that it be: current small (micro atx) intel preferred (especially now that ive put so much effort into it being so) expandable reliable the current parts list is: intel i5-4960K 3.5GHz Asus Gryphon Z97 Micro ATX G.Skill 2x4 DDR3-1866 kingston SSDnow V300 240Gb SSD WD Caviar 1TB 3.5 7200RPM mechanical EVGA GTX 960 4GB Fractal Design Define Mini MicroATX mini tower case Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze semi-modular ATX supply and a friend already gave me a decent size quiet fan bringing the total case fan count to 3 my reasoning is: the processor should be good for a good while but i can still jump to an i7 if need be the mobo is super reliably and allows for SLI later as well as two more sticks of ram gskill makes good ram kingston makes good ssd's and i only want them to boot WD makes good mechanicals and i can add another and raid them for 50$ if i want EVGA seems to be well liked, 960 is a good bang for buck and 4GB will do me well for a while and then i can SLI another when they are cheap. fractal design makes a neat case and will fit both cards if i use the right slots for the drives corsair is a well liked supply and 600W will handle the additional graphics later if need be. i will over clock this just a bit with the stock cooler but that will also be something to get later on as i expand let me know if i have any glaring holes, right now the price (Pre OS) is just over 1000 and i already have decent peripherals to work with (screen, mouse, keyboard etc) here is the perma-link to the pc part picker page: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8j9WvK also the inside colors will be ugly but i will get over it. thanks for reading!
