Hey guys, I made a dumb move when ordering some merch and didn't realize that although I have my current address on there, the order is set to ship to my old address 2 hours by car from me. I emailed support and it hasn't been that long, but I have found very little information on how fast they respond and I need to make sure its before the order actually ships. The few posts I have seen on it have said something like 1-2 weeks to respond which seems... Unhelpful. Can anybody with some experience shed a little bit of light on this for me?

To add a different perspective to what others have already said. Yes you might have to reduce settings in some new games, but you will also be able to run the other 99 percent of games that exist just fine. It will be a pretty big upgrade from a GTX 1050. More is definitely better, but I don't actually see you needing an RX 5700 for 1080p, not to mention it would be significantly more expensive. The 1060 is still basically twice as powerful as a 1050 with 3 times the Vram. However if you can stretch for a used 1070, if its a good price, that would last longer.

The Asrock board seems to be a bit better, due to the heatsinks and having 1 more PCI x16 slot. Also I see people getting decent overclocks on this board for how inexpensive it is.

Hey guys, So my girl-face does some gaming and 3d rendering in her spare time. She is a graphic designer by trade, so you can imagine my horror as I realized the computer she does her rendering on runs an i3-3240, Asus b75M-A motherboard, 16gb of 1333 Corsair Vengeance ddr3, GTX 660 Windforce, 5400rpm 1tb HDD, Corsair GS Series 800 W 80+ Bronze PSU. The 16gb ram and PSU aren't too bad, but obviously there was some inconsistency in the build that needed to be addressed. I suggested we do a whole platform upgrade, but due to some other things going on in life right now, she can't put the money towards it. The cooler is one i already have just sitting around, and the case is what I hope to put her next build in when it comes to that. My question is: For gaming and 3D rendering, would I be okay going with an i7 2600 or 3770? Could you be more specific as to your needs? AMD or Intel? What do you consider cheap? What will you be using it for?

Absolutely it will I have the exact same motherboard and I love it. 2666 is okay, but ryzen performs better with faster ram. Ideally 3000 and up. However again, maybe wait for ryzen 3000, it shouldn't be as dependent on ram clock speeds.

Thats okay! If it really comes down to it I am sure I could get a usb numpad. Thanks for your input! I will keep this one in mind and look at some reviews

Might be worthwhile to upgrade to a Ryzen platform with a 2600 or a 2700. Games are starting to use more cores and threads, the future is cores. Although wait a little bit to see what ryzen 3000 has to offer, as it maybe a big boost in performance over the 2000 series. If you make that upgrade you will also need to get a new motherboard, a high end b450 like the MSI carbon is very good and would allow you an okay amount of overclocking headroom if you wanted to. I would grab another SSD, either 500gb or 1tb, as they have become very cheap lately, and to me at least, it feels kind of silly to be running hard drives for your games and programs in 2019. 16gb of ram is good, but at what speed if you know? 2060 is great, awesome gpu, but probably held back a little by that i5. Other than that you seem pretty well set up. I can be more specific about models if you would like.

I don't mind weight too much as I work out pretty consistently and it wouldn't really bother me. Battery life would be nice but I am not usually too far away from an outlet, so whatever you can find that is reasonable in that area. The one I have does about 3 hours of text based work on battery. If I could be around that I would be happy. Low sRGB IPS is fine, I am not doing any work that requires me to be super color accurate, I just like to have a nice color palette that is relatively accurate to look at in games and not give me a headache after prolonged use. Honestly I wouldn't mind a TN as long as it has decent colors, I just tend to stay a way from them because its a bit of a toss up.

Hey everyone! Been a while since I posted anything, but I know that if any community can help me its this one SO I have been teetering on the the precipice of buying a gaming/work laptop for a while, but obviously the price has always been a bit daunting, not to mention the rate at which they are left in the dust by the growth of technology. But I think now is a good time to go for it. For the last little while I have been working off of an HP Elitebook 8470p with and SSD. I love it and its a good old gal, but shes a little under powered and under featured for my needs these days, as I am doing a decent amount of international travelling to expand my horizons and going off to visit family/friends who are not close to me. So I am giving this one to my cousin for school and making the jump. Some info about my wants/needs - Num pad is a must, I use it constantly for my web administration work - 1080p plus if you please - backlit keys would be nice as sometimes I work in the dark with other people trying to sleep in the room - reasonable gaming performance as I must feed my addiction fairly often (you understand I'm sure), I would like around 1050 ti to 1060 level if possible and I do tend to play AAA games among lesser titles as well. - A comfortable typing experience would be nice, but is not necessary - IPS screen would be beneficial, as I have grown accustomed to it on my desktop - SSD is definitely a plus but I can probably upgrade to one later if needed - 15" or larger if possible - 16gb of ram or the ability to upgrade to that - 4 cores 8 threads or higher would be ideal for obvious reasons - I am willing to compromise on looks but it doesn't hurt to have a nice sleek aesthetic that appeals to both gaming and business - Will sacrifice thinness for performance A few more things: - I am Canadian so I will be purchasing in CAD - You don't have to find me the exact perfect model, but pointing me in the right direction would be helpful - I don't mind going used if the price is right - I am hoping to keep it under 1200 CAD but that is flexible if I am like 50 away from a great deal Thanks in advance to all who answer, I believe in you guys!

Your PC will be more than fine to play star citizen. currently when you are playing by yourself in an underpopulated area it actually runs pretty well, because we have OCS (Object Container Streaming) on client side. We are supposed to get server side OCS in the next big December update which should further increase performance in resource heavy zones. The game actually runs pretty well, its just the servers that are struggling to keep up currently. Keep in mind though, you are buying current gen hardware for a game who's soft release date is probably in or past 2021. Also SSD is a must for this game.

Hey Guys, First of all I want to say thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Now, I bought a 1070 ti recently to replace my Strix 980, I put the new card in the computer and played on it for a while after I got it. My plan was to sell the 980 to recoup some of the cost, I found the 1070 ti for like 400 CAD on the used market and I was selling the 980 for 280 CAD so I wasn't losing much in the transition. After playing on my new 1070 ti I went to go put the gtx 980 back in, as a had a buyer lined up for the next day and I wanted him to be able to test it, so I threw it back in my PC and Geforce experience told me to update drivers. So I did. Then when it was done I opened up AC origins to make sure it was performing as expected, when suddenly- *BEEEEEEIIIIOOOooooo*. The screen goes black. I tried restarting, and it gives me a bit of the Bios screen, then it goes black and the monitor loses signal. I tried putting my other gpu back in to uninstall and reinstall drivers and try again, same problem. So my question I guess has to be: Is there something to be done about this? or do I just eat the loss? It seems like an awfully strange coincidence that it would die RIGHT then. You might be fine for like... League of legends. but you would still probably want to have more ram. The SSD would breathe some life into it, but you would definitely feel the weight of that CPU holding you down. Don't expect to run newer games on anything but low or medium. Maybe not even.

If you play a lot of titles like AC Origins, FFXV, Witcher 3, Battlefield One Etc. You should look into moving to like a ryzen 1600 or 2600. That card wont be able to stretch its legs if you play a lot of core heavy games. Even if you don't now, we are sort of in the core wars, and I expect things to pick up on multithreading a lot more.

I have had a gtx 970 and i donated it to a friend after I used it for a year and it lasted about 2 more years then conked out. So I would say the cheapest ones are still probably reasonable GPU's but if you can spring for like on of those gigabyte or EVGA ones I would definitely recommend it. Plus RGB (if you care about that). a gtx 1060 6gb is perfect for 1080p right now. and especially if you arent going to be buying bleeding edge titles a lot it should last you a few years.

What is your budget ? what country are you from? what resolution do you play at? I would generally suggest a gtx 1060 6gb or an RX 580 8gb (If you can find one). That extra vram is becoming fairly important if you are going to end up playing newer games at any point.

For both gaming and video editing the i7 3770 is the best choice, no contest. There are people who will say that an i5 is enough. I disagree at this point even for gaming. Look at witcher 3, Grand theft auto 5, assassin's creed origins... Basically any game that is starting to really look to the future for how A.I. and Physics work, is going to start really hitting those extra threads. Then there is nothing but benefit when using an i7 over those other cpu's in video editing. The extra cores will take a good chunk of time off of your edits. Ideally, it would be better if you could sell your components and put that towards getting a newer platform that is affordable like ryzen. But I recommend the i7 for sure if you are unable to do that.
