  1. I think the EK blocks look great in red, but generally the rest looks good under white, especially the mobo. I didn't have enough white strips so that's why I chucked in the red for now.
  2. I used the Monsoon hardline kit which contains measuring kit, cutting kit, mandrels and heat gun. The kit is great but doesn't make the build any less of a long and intensive process. I've made a few mistakes but fortunately they're out of view when the sides are on.
  3. This is my Devil's Canyon / ROG based hardline build. I have kept with the ROG colour scheme throughout for now but may change it over time. It's taken a few weeks to decide on all the parts and put together. System is up and running but there are some small changes I'm still planning to make, mainly aesthetics - figuring out the best colour scheme for fluid/lighting that will highlight all the components inside well. Photo with red LED strips: This doesn't photograph very well, this one isn't too bad but trying to get the right external lighting/flash at the right angle is ongoing! TODO: Decide on final colour of fluid, or leave alone. Decide on best lighting, possibly a mix of white and red LEDs.
  4. New site but still only semi-translated into English! It seems the "note" button adds to the wish list. I've ordered from them in the past but (provided they have stock) generally I've found that the vast majority of things are on OCUK/Scan these days. They're usually cheaper too and deliver next day (free from OCUK) so generally better than ordering from Germany.
  5. The pre-mix also contains additives to prevent algae growth, you can buy this separately too. The dye may contain it, but I don't know for sure as I've always used pre-mix. Deionised water is good for washing new components and leak testing. I usually fill the loop with deionised water a few times before adding the coolant to make sure everything is nice and clean. Having done this each water loop I've built (been on water since 2007 and usually upgrade something every year or two) have required zero maintenance besides topping up the fluid occasionally.
  6. There is a 3 part video guide by Monsoon on YouTube, it's well worth checking out, they show you how to precisely measure in 3 dimensions and using the mandrels to make equally precise 3d bends. I've just started working on a hardline build and after watching the guide it's made things a lot more straight forward. Part 1 - simple right angle: Part 2 - 2 bends: Part 3 - 2 bends in different directions:
  7. I'm trying to establish which radiator brands use which spacing sizes on their 140mm rads. So far I've found the following: Hardware Labs - 20mm via http://hardwarelabs.com/images/sr1/d-sr1-420.jpg EK - 16mm via http://www.ekwb.com/shop/EK-PSS/EK-PSS-3831109860151.pdf XSPC - 15mm via http://www.xs-pc.com/radiators-ex-series/ex420-triple-fan-radiator Thermochill - 20mm via http://skinneelabs.com/thermochill-pa140-3/ Others seem to be a bit more illusive, can anyone help?
  8. I came across the YT channel of a guy in the UK that has reviewed a couple of fans that look like good contenders: Aerocool DS: Phanteks:
  9. Any particular reason you'd choose the Shadow Wings over the Silent Wings? Although I'm not sure any of the Be Quiet fans would be any good as they have the rubber pins and I will need it to support the weight of the rad.
  10. I came across this site: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1345-page7.html The Phanteks seems to come out marginally ahead. Anyone tried them? I've never heard of them before.
  11. Just got a Lian Li D600 and as they would fix the front and rear mounting holes without any modifications I'm considering running a couple of EX420 radiators - http://www.xs-pc.com/radiators-ex-series/ex420-triple-fan-radiator Tonnes of info around on 120mm fan performance, but not much on 140mm. I'm after silent operation, probably limit the fans to 600 rpm max, any recommendations?
  12. You're lucky you didn't kill your motherboard, it's not strong enough to attach a water block to directly and will flex under pressure or even break. It certainly will not provide an even contact/force between the block and the CPU die that you should have for optimal cooling. Some boards are ok without a backplate, e.g. socket 2011, but they have a ton of extra metal on both sides of the socket to the same effect as a backplate.
