  1. Thanks for the informative reply! I have since read about multiple users reporting that 3rd gen are often reported as being 20 degrees celcius hotter through monitoring software. If I use ryzen master the temps are about 45 degrees on idle. If I then open a chrome tab or launch a program it seems to spike very briefly to 48 - 52 degrees. So maybe the monitoring software was the problem all along. I have since tuned the fan curve to be at 50% untill I reach 75 degrees then it cranks up to 100%. As I also mentioned in another reply, I have a program called MSI Command that lets me tune fan curve and things like that. It might be the reason for the loud cooler since it consistently reads the temps as being 20 degrees hotter than ryzen master. I'll try to uninstall the command software and rely only on BIOS fan curve. My system is in a Phanteks p400s case with 2 x 120 mm fans at the front as intake and a rear 120 mm fan as the exhaust. The PSU is mounted fan down so that shouldn't really affect anything. As for GPU I am using a MSI GTX 970.
  2. I have also noticed that the idle temps measured in the Ryzen Master program is much better. Here I idle at around 45 - 52 degrees Celcius which is totally acceptable. What bothers me the most is that I have tried to configure the fan curve in the BIOS so that it's nice and silent, however the MSI Commander program for my tomahawk max motherboard incorrectly reads the temps as being 20 degrees higher than ryzen master. So I think they are fighting for the control of my CPU fans. I'll probably still change the thermal paste just to be sure that it is indeed done correctly.
  3. I'll keep you posted if I find a solution!
  4. Properly mounted as in all four screws tightened till they felt like they wouldn't tighten that much more even with decent force? Because that was how I did it
  5. I just opened HWMonitor and took some screenshots so that you can see the other temps of my system. Wouldn't say it's too bad. 45 would be amazing to run stable at idle!
  6. Thanks for the quick reply! Just checked my minimum CPU power and it was indeed set to 99%. I have now lowered it but I see roughly the same spikes jumping all the way to 67 degrees. I also posted the same thing on Reddit and two people suggested that I changed the thermal paste. What should optimal idle be for the 3600?
  7. I just installed my new AMD Ryzen 5 3600 in my MSI Tomahawk Max motherboard with the stock cooler. During the installation, I had some trouble getting the cooler onto the processor because I didn't properly hold the backplate down while tightening the screws. This resulted in taking on and off the cooler a couple of times in order to get it right. I saw that some of the thermal paste had been spread a bit around but I didn't have any to substitute with so I had to go with what I had. I am not sure if this is the reason that I get pretty high idle temps. As of writing this, the temps are between 46 - 64 degrees Celcius and opening a program may get it to spike to 69 degrees Celcius. These seem like rather high idle temps to me but I would love the get some else's opinion about it. I am currently using the AMD Balanced settings as the windows power option. Besides that, I haven't changed anything since related to performance. It's just rather annoying to hear the CPU fan ramp up and down constantly. Any help will be massively appreciated!
  8. I would like to win the "New Razer Blade 14" (totally agree with Linus about the confusing naming system). I would use it as my school laptop during the morning and middle of the day but in the evening and at night I would use its wild horsepower to beat the heck out of the enemy League of legends or overwatch team. Would also throw some more demanding games at it, of course! Else it would be a bit of a power waste The lightness and portability is also a huge plus since my parents are divorced - atm I am carrying my full tower CM stormtrooper desktop pc back and forth every week.
