Silver47 got a reaction from genexis_x in only 1 fan slot...intake or outtake?
Run it as an intake. I have a SG05, which is basically is the same case and it works fine as an intake. My rig sports a 4690k @ 4Ghz which is cooled by a Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev. B and BeQuiet! 120-mm pwm fans. The cpus temperature never exceeds 62°C.

You can't really put a egpu in there. The pcie slot is kinda hacky, and probably won't perform well at all(x1 gen 2 link)

First step complete, removed the old alternator. God damn that was a pain in the ass.

But at least I got it out. Plus I took the time to clean up the old brackets and all. So once I pick up the alternator tomorrow it should be a nice drop in.

But man is that thing seized up. Couldn't get it to rotate even when I clamped it in my vice and used pliers on the pulley. Would take a photo of the thing but my phone's camera stopped working for some odd reason.

Silver47 got a reaction from ZackBarletto in Would spray-paint hurt a cooler?
Yep, I paint all of my cpu coolers. As chance would have it I recently painted a Hyper T4 (which is pretty similar to the Hyper 212) for my brothers rig with matte black ceramic-based engine paint and in terms of heat-dissipation and cooling performance it didn't make a difference. So you're good to go I guess.

    EDIT.
Thanks, Linus. For dissing me on the livestream! I did forget to say that the top one was pretty terrible though

    Because its Nvidia.
Its the type of company which launches a 970 and 980 before a 960... A type of company which skips a 790...
    Well thereya go.

the fan on my 7770 doesn't even spin anymore and sits passively at 60C (the fan does kick in once it hits thermal throttling but stops spinning after it drops below 60C) The card might actually be fine without the fan like mine is for just getting a desktop.

Theres a product like WD-40 but it has lithium grease in it. Where I live its just called CRC lithium grease. Its better as a lubricant.

Silver47 reacted to paprikman in Need your advice! WD-40 on a fan bearing?
Is it non-conductive? Silicon grease should be fine. It's like $1.5 per tube and you need just a tiny bit of it.

WD-40 will not last very long, I recommend that you get an inexpensive lubricant at a hardware store

WD-40 is not conductive but it smells and might not last as a lubricant on a fan

Don't use WD-40. Get a cheap bottle of sewing machine oil or somesuch. The article below mentions sewing machine dealers and fabric stores, but I got my sewing machine oil from a bicycle repair shop.

A replacement fan might work, but the chances of finding something that fits your heatsink and shroud are minimal. That doesn't mean you can't buy or repurpose a case fan and just superglue the frame to your graphics card shroud. It doesn't look pretty, but it gets the job done. I've used this method in the past to 'replace' motherboard chipset fans, which were often built into the heatsink and didn't have standard mounting options.

Silver47 got a reaction from NoobGamer69 in intel pentium 4400 will bottleneck my 1050 ti?
Yes it will bottleneck. I would actually advice you not to buy the pentium g4400, because its only a dual-core without hyperthreading. Why buying something worse than you allready have? The old athlon ii x4 will most likely also bottleneck the gpu, but if you are just playing dota and cs it won't be severe. Those games aren't cpu intesive, so you might just get by.
I would also generally advice you not to buy multiple components at once if your budget is tight. Rather go one at a time, better save up and maybe get a i3 6100 and a h110 mainboard in a couple of months.

TL-DR: Don't buy a dual-core cpu if you allready have a quadcore, no matter if its a bit older. And don't buy multiple new parts at once if your budget is tight. Rather save up to buy something better in the near future.
