  2. Yes it will be worth it. Depending on the game 50-60% performance improvement. But first you might think about upgrading your cpu, because the FX6300 will definitely be a bottleneck, regardless of how much you overclock it.

  4. Looks like a video memory issue. I had similar problem showing on a GTX 960 just before it died (aka put out green checkerboard artifacts on the screed at any given time). Did your issues get progressively worse? If so, your vram might be on its way out. I hope your card is still covered under warranty.
  5. @Almostbauws @Alketbi67 @DocSwag @Mooshi The only reason I considered the 3930k is because it would be a ridiculously cheap way to get a six core. Overall cost would be down a couple of bucks from the price of a r5 1600 alone. Now do you guys think its not worth it all together to buy into such an old platform? Will it perform in games or will it be a bottleneck for the soon to be mine GTX 1070?

  8. Like I said it will (besides for gaming) mostly be used for simulation and rendering purposes. For that its definitley an upgrade, because of more cores and threads, more cache, and higher clockspeeds (because my 4770k isn't that great of an overclocker). Its only disadvantage is its lesser ipc value. But in games like AC:Origins it should crunch the 4770k, right? And also the upgrade would be stupid cheap, I wouldn't even need new ram. Like I said I'd be buying from a friend so I hope he won't scam me:D
  9. Thats what I thought, but if so not by much. Also I haven't really found any real benchmarks and with the Corsair H80 which I allready have hitting 4.8 Ghz on the 5820k shouldn't be a problem. What do you think about the 3930k? I mean its ridiculously cheap, the whole thing would cost less than either a 5820k or a R5 1600X

Since I'm getting a new GPU (GTX 1070) soon and also want to up my PCs physics simulation/rendering/CAD capability I've decided to also upgrade the rest of my system and get a 6-core/12-thread CPU. Here are my options: #1 Buy an Intel Core i7 3930k and a high-end X79 mainboard used. Pros: Ridiculously cheap 6-core CPU (about 100€ ~ 120$ where I live), ridiculously cheap high-end X79 MBs around (I could get one for 100€ from a friend), allready have pretty good DDR3 RAM, great overclocking, there isn't really an upgrade path to speak of (there are 8-core/16-thread xeons for X79 around though) Cons: IPC is even worse than Ryzen lul, not really an upgrade path, no warranty at all due to german zivil consumer laws Total cost of upgrading: ~200€ (VERY tempting price to performance?) #2 Buy an Intel Core i7 5820k and an entry-level X99 mainboard used. Pros: Better performance than a R5 1600X while it costs about the same, way better performance than a i7 3930k, somewhat current architecture, excellent upgrade path all the way up to a 10-core/20-thread CPU, very decent overclocking Cons: relatively expensive option, would need to buy very expensive DDR4 RAM, no warranty except for the RAM, more than twice the price of a 3930k Total cost of upgrade: ~500€ (CPU: 220, RAM: 160, MB: 120) #3 "Dude, just buy a Ryzen" Purchase a R5 1600X and a X370 mainboard new. Pros: A bit cheaper than a 5820k while only slightly slower, faster than a 3930k, very capable overall, get to learn about overclocking on a new architecture, possibly(!) a very good upgrade path (who knows what Ryzen 2 might bring us - maybe 16-cores/32-threads? Otherwise at least a relatively affordable 8-core/16-thread), warranty for all the parts Cons: Most expensive option, doesn't overclock well, needs DDR4 RAM, still not as well developed of a platform, would need a new cooling solution, also more than twice the price of a 3930k Total cost of upgrade: ~550€ (CPU: 220, RAM: 160, MB: 130, decent air cooler: 40) (also, ouch... My poor wallet) What I don't want / what's not an option: Coffe Lake. Way to expensive here in Germany, if you can get one at all. X299/2066 It's bullshit and no one should support intel for their crap. B350 mainboards. I wan't all the features and all the overclocking from my mainboards. What do you guys think would be the best option? All help and all comments are appreciated, thanks in advance!   11. I'd get the Asus Prime Z270-P. Its one of the cheapest Z270 boards but does everything you'd need it to do. Also I personally like the Asus UEFI and oc-utility a lot more

  13. Thanks, thats really nice of you! Might be the case. Is your BIOS up to date? Your mainboard could just be set to some weird power saving setting. You could try to manually set the CPU core voltage to 1.4 volts and test if it still throttles. (But keep in mind that everything above might be a bit high for daily use)
  14. Pretty weird, to me it looks like its not supposed to do that... But I'm afraid I don't really have an explanation for that, since I never really got to play with FX cpus.
  15. I'd stick with 1440p. Trust me you really don't want to go back to 1080p once you're used to 1440p or above... I had an ultrawide and went back to 1080p because my GTX 1060 didn't really cut it at 3440x1440, and I'm a sucker for high framrates.
  16. Generally speaking: Just by the amount of wattage required you could run a 7700k and a GTX 1080 with a 450w psu. But than again that would have to be a very good 450w psu, like at least 80+ gold.
  17. Although the spikes could also be explained by varying in game cpu load, but it still seems weird that the spikes kind of correlate with the cpu usage spikes. But thats a pretty easy thing to rule out. Just run Prime95 or some other tool that sets a continuous load on the cpu for a couple of minutes and watch how the cpu behaves...
  18. That graph should be the gpu power limit. It just seemed pretty weird that the temps briefly spike and then drop down again for a couple of seconds. That usually indicates throttling. Also what I meant with power limits isn't the peak power load your cpu draws from the psu, but rather maybe some kind of power or voltage limitation set by your mainboard.
  19. Also upon taking a second look at this besides sitting at 100% usage often your CPU seems to be throttling either because of thermal or power limitations.

  21. Honestly just get the cheaper ones of those two. They perform about equal. Depending on what you want to do with your system you could even consider a unlocked Core i5. Obviously the Coffee Lake chips would be a bit faster, but then again you'd need a new mainboard as well, so I wouldn't advice it. Also don't even consider getting a Ryzen if you allready own a Skylake system, since your i5 6500 would most likely overpower most Ryzen chips in most games.
