EFD307 got a reaction from LauriHimself in C49RG94SSU vs Odyssey G9
I got my G9 in a few weeks ago and I'm still getting used to it. I upsized from a 34'' ultra wide screen monitor (3440x1440 @ 60hz) because I wanted the refresh rates. If you've seen the 49" in person and know you'd like it then go for it! The image quality is very nice and the high refresh rate is awesome! I underestimated the size of this thing though.  This was my experience the first few weeks with it.

The setup took quite a while, the firmware needed to be updated out of the box for the display to be even remotely usable. I also had to use their display port cable, mine must have been a different spec because the screen would get all kinds of artifacts and turn off intermittently with my old cable. Also 240hz was broken until the firmware was updated, it just turned the screen black and even after resetting my computer it wouldn't fix it, had to plug a second monitor in and lower the refresh rate. Just have a USB drive on hand FAT32 formatted so you can update the firmware.

It also seemed way too big at first, I was definitely a little disappointed playing games. The first few times I played FPS games it made me dizzy with the extreme distortion on the peripheral but I've since gotten used to it. COD cold war multiplayer is great but when i played a slower single player mission it made me a bit queasy.  Also its very weird when playing MOBA or RTS games, you really need to move your mouse to the extreme to get the screen to scroll horizontally.

As for the comparison, I would say choose the g9 if you have a gpu that can handle it, I have a 3090 and I still can't hit 240 fps in most games. 5120x1440 is just shy of 4k pixel wise so definitely be ready for a performance hit if you're coming from 2560x1440.

If I had to do it again I probably wouldn't buy it. I liked having 2 monitors on my desk and this thing takes up so much room that its not an option anymore. Yes you can set it to work as 2 displays but I used a main display for games and the second one for videos/discord/music/etc with the curved screen trying to game on one side and have something up on the other wasn't great. I have until the end of the month to return it back to amazon if I decide its not for me, I'm 50-50 right now if its going to stay or if I'm going to find a 34'' monitor with a high refresh rate. Hope that helps. Feel free to ask me any questions.

EFD307 got a reaction from Tristerin in $699 RTX 2080 ASUS blower
Update: my 2080 came in the mail today. Apparently the seller shipped it from France. Also even though I ordered the ASUS dual fan model I got the blower... They did refund me $70 for the wrong item though. Got my 2080 for $629 :)

Also, it does run quieter than my 780 classified which I'm very surprised about, thought the blower would be a jet engine in there.

I just recently bought the same Samsung TV you are talking about in the 40 inch variant and it looks absolutely fantastic. make sure you have a genuine samsung panel based TV.
look at all the stock the store carries and make sure the version number on the TV(should be on the box, and will be on the back when you unbox it) begins with a T. some of these TVs have had their panels outsourced at chei me, AU Optronics and Sharp, all of which use inferior panels, but the Genuine Samsung panels have a version number beginning with a T.
the fact that there are various versions of the same TV and you have to check the box to know what version you have I find disgusting, but the TV itself(if you have the samsung TV with a first party Samsung Panel inside) is absolutely fantastic.
for example, my TV is a UN40H6350 (box says 40UN H6350) with a version number TS06 which means it has a samsung panel inside.

I dont think you understand what "screen real estate" means. you still have a 1920 by 1080 space to work with, your just stretching windows over large spaces which wastes a lot of space on your programs GUI and the task bar. If you like the stretched out wasted space look better than by all means go for it. I wasn't saying anything negative towards 4k monitors, monitors aren't designed to be 55 inches, a computer can utilize the screen real estate where a tv(when used as a tv) can not at this point.

The lab computer i use for research at my school uses a 50 inch tv, i absolutely hate it, each pixel is like a quarter of an inch, having 2 programs sharing the same screen isn't practical because the menus take up 40% of the screen. when you need to actually multitask and are dealing with things like analyzing data using multiple programs its an absolute nightmare, id take 2 17inch monitors any day of the week against that 50 inch tv. and again your not getting the concept of screen real estate. run a game in windowed mode at a lower (720p) resolution, see how it takes up a certain amount of space, I can fit 2 of those windows on my 2560x1440 monitor where as you cant. making the screen bigger doesnt mean you have more screen real estate.
think of it like a fish tank. if you have 10 gallons of water in a 100 gallon tank you still have 10 gallons of water, increasing the size of the tank but not water doesn't give the fish any more room to swim.

EFD307 got a reaction from djdanster in Can I somehow fit a amd CPU into inter motherboard
Yes i mean you could probably smash the thing in there and clamp it closed, it just wouldn't work and be a complete waste of time and money.

These are the only compatible chips for that board.

    Core i7 (LGA2011),Xeon E5-1600 (LGA2011),Xeon E5-2600 (LGA2011)

more importantly, if your still trying to figure out cpu and mobo sockets I would suggest waiting a but before building your first PC, read some articles, watch some videos and please ask questions because it would have been a disaster if you tried shoving an AMD CPU into a $450 intel mobo!

While 60Watts RMS is quite substantial and will drive those speakers O.K, the ideal scenario is to have your amp capable of driving a few watts higher than the speakers, This is to avoid clipping which is much less audible and does significantly more damage than over driving a speaker.

We won't have "normal" cards with the new cooler, heck even the new Hawk will still be with the current Twin Frozr. I think for everyday use, you'd just be happy with the GTX 780 Gaming.

When the time is there, you can always sell and get a new card, right? I need to find something clever in the Batman line that it's not the Graphics Card that you need, but it's the card that you deserve. or want.. yes... combine it with Star Trek.

The needs of the many outweigh the hero Gotham deserves.
