  1. Are all your blocks fittings and radiators the same metal? Some metals react with each other and can cause discoloring in your fluids. It could be from corrosion as well. check out some other posts about similar problems. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/133127-heavy-discoloration-in-coolant/
  2. updade: new dual band router is in aaaaand it looks like his laptop doesn't have a network card that can pick up the 5GHz signal. back to the store to get a USB dual band network card and everything's working for his laptop plus his speeds almost doubled going from 2.4 to 5GHz. 10 mbps -> 17 down and 1.5->2.5 up ping went from 32->30 all in all id call that a success.
  3. so my dads wireless internet has been cutting in and out for years now he lives an an apartment complex with 50+ wireless networks around. it will cut out for a few mins then kick back on it goes out on his laptop and my phone/laptop at the same time . Im up visiting from my place and im trying to figure it out for him. he thought it was losing power and bought a ups but its still not working properly. Im wondering if its the router. i suggested getting a 5ghz router to get away from all the interference with other networks. any thoughts before i take a trip to the store and get him a new one to try out?
  4. I ended up getting the samsung and its amazing, don't regret it one bit.
  5. Found what I just asked for... wasnt too hard to find. here it is for anyone else who comes across this thread. http://nxsfan.co.uk/mediawiki/index.php/Samsung_Panels
  6. huh I was reading some amazon reviews that said that only the models above 55'' carried the Samsung panel, that was pretty much the main reason I decided on 55''. Do you have a source for that information? not that your any less trustworthy than some amazon reviewer but ive been looking and haven't found much more information about which units have the samsung panel.
  7. So ive been looking at buying a tv the sales stop soon and I've narrowed it down to these two... vizio m552i ~696 after tax/shipping from amazon. samsung UN55H6350 ~822$ after taxes, picked up from store. I looked at both screens in person, I thought the Samsung had a better picture but that was judging off the split analog signal they show you in the store. I did get to see some of a blu ray movie on the Samsung tv and it looked really good, unfortunately I never got the same chance with the vizio. Price is important I would have already bought the Samsung but the ~125$ price difference is making me wait and think some more. I will be using them to watch mostly smart content and stuff off my HTPC (*old gaming laptop*) Any advice is welcome especially if you have one of these tv's!
  8. my price range is 500 max, im looking for something small and light with a long battery life. Initially i was thinking of getting a tablet but i like the freedom of using windows and i can emulate android on windows anyway. looking for something under 15 inches and convertable. i5 haswell would be ideal but for that price point and i3 would work. would like it to have a hard drive bay in it so i can move one of my ssds over. touch screen is a must. would use mainly for internet browsing, ebook reading and occasionally paperwork and games like hearthstone and hopefully league of legends. Anyone have recommendations?
  9. Go find Linus's amazon code and use that when you buy the monitor! here ill do it for you.. http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=linustechtips-20 as far as which monitor, if you have the extra money get the more expensive one but it seems like the 23" would be fine. amazon has a really good return policy, if the product isn't to your liking you have up to like 45 days to send it back. ( you can apply for a return up to 30 days after purchase and I think once you apply its good for about 15 days)
  10. I just finished my last final ever yesterday! Saturday i graduate with my bachelors in physics and hopefully land the nuclear engineering job im interviewing for in....about an hour and a half good luck with the calc 3 and E&M my E&M class was mostly calc 3 anyway, divergence and convergence, Maxwell's equations and stuff like that. good luck man!
  11. so im graduating saturday and im moving into a friends house for about a month until i can afford to move out and support myself. the room i will be staying in is very small and only has one pair of outlets. I have a pretty beastly machine(if i do say so myself) and 3 monitors that load plus external speakers and a 5000 BTU air conditioner is going to be a lot for those two outlets to handle off of just a little surge protector. Would a ups (this one in particular http://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-CP850PFCLCD-Sinewave-Compatible-Mini-Tower/dp/B00429N18S/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1400099651&sr=1-2&keywords=pure+sine+wave+ups) help out at all in this situation? I want to make sure im not overloading their house and at the same time deliver clean power from their very old electrical system. so im not looking for a battery back up as much as im looking to not burn down their house. another question, this model outputs a pure sine wave, a less expensive model outpurs a simulated sine wave, i know some power supply wont work if the wave is too distorted, my infos in the signature but i want to be sure my platnum cert psu will operate on a simulated sine wave.

  14. I've used it a bunch of times, the only thing you should know is that the only way to pay back a bill me later bill is by connecting your bank account to it. you cant pay back using a credit/debit card.
  15. i forgot i even posted this...I goggled it and found that same add on which has been working for me.
  16. So Firefox updated and my tabs are back to being on top. I went to the config and changed tabs on top to be false and there's no change...
  17. The lab computer i use for research at my school uses a 50 inch tv, i absolutely hate it, each pixel is like a quarter of an inch, having 2 programs sharing the same screen isn't practical because the menus take up 40% of the screen. when you need to actually multitask and are dealing with things like analyzing data using multiple programs its an absolute nightmare, id take 2 17inch monitors any day of the week against that 50 inch tv. and again your not getting the concept of screen real estate. run a game in windowed mode at a lower (720p) resolution, see how it takes up a certain amount of space, I can fit 2 of those windows on my 2560x1440 monitor where as you cant. making the screen bigger doesnt mean you have more screen real estate. think of it like a fish tank. if you have 10 gallons of water in a 100 gallon tank you still have 10 gallons of water, increasing the size of the tank but not water doesn't give the fish any more room to swim.
  18. I dont think you understand what "screen real estate" means. you still have a 1920 by 1080 space to work with, your just stretching windows over large spaces which wastes a lot of space on your programs GUI and the task bar. If you like the stretched out wasted space look better than by all means go for it. I wasn't saying anything negative towards 4k monitors, monitors aren't designed to be 55 inches, a computer can utilize the screen real estate where a tv(when used as a tv) can not at this point.
  19. I love my 2560x1440 monitor but i dont see how a 4k tv will matter at this point. Maybe i just dont understand how cable works or something but it seems to me that most if not all content being created at this point is going to be 1080p. i can play 1080p youtube videos on my hd+ monitor but its still just 1080p. i could understand making the purchase in a few years when higher resolution is the standard but right now, unless im getting this wrong, there isn't even going to be much content created in 4k until it really catches on. and by the time it catches on the price of a 4k tv will be significantly lower. 4k monitors make sense but i just don't see why anyone should be excited about 4k tvs.... at least not yet.
  20. My favorite thing about the M8 is already having one
  21. I didnt, i was thinking about doing it so i Photoshopped it to see what it would look like. I think it looks much better white but i never got the time to do anything about it.

  24. so a friend of mine offered to give me a key for this weekends beta. im not going to be around to play it so one of you lucky people have a chance to win it. all you have to do is post a tech related joke or meme. hes emailing me the key when he gets out of class and im going to pick the winner when i get the email. could be at anytime so post now! glhf
  25. Yes i mean you could probably smash the thing in there and clamp it closed, it just wouldn't work and be a complete waste of time and money. These are the only compatible chips for that board. Core i7 (LGA2011),Xeon E5-1600 (LGA2011),Xeon E5-2600 (LGA2011) more importantly, if your still trying to figure out cpu and mobo sockets I would suggest waiting a but before building your first PC, read some articles, watch some videos and please ask questions because it would have been a disaster if you tried shoving an AMD CPU into a $450 intel mobo!
