  1. for the used laptops i7's are usually 4th generation or higher (quad core HT) any i5's I consider are also quad cores RAM is at least 8GB (sometimes 16) based on my research (gaming) the 780m is between 5%-40% (usually around 30%) faster than the 960m (no need to remind me how bad my GPU is ) http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.13849.0.html my main concern is weather the outdated 780m will be a good choice. (kepler vs maxwell)
  2. Hey all! I'm looking to get a new laptop. I am a student and my funds are very limited (UK) I found some decent options online for used laptops is a i7/780m a good choice? I know it is a relatively old card. will it be a decent laptop? alternatively I found (similar price) i7/960m and i7/880m (bit further away) if I get a new one, I'll be getting i5/960m I currently have a lenovo y570 CPU: 2670QM GPU: 555M HDD: 750 HDD + 256 SSD (mSATA) 1366 * 768 I have my laptop for everyday use and light gaming, mainly as I can't (Feels Bad Man) I play Overwatch, and might try some other titles new and old (skyrim, Bioshock, AC etc) I also wish to record my gameplay in Overwatch. Will shadowplay work? will it affect performance too much? any advice is helpful! thanks!
  3. ok, thank you for the feedback!
  4. I don't have shadowplay, I use OBS (also tried plays.tv). I do local recording. I have a laptop (2670qm + 555m). I can game (overwatch) at ~40-60 fps, but when I record, recording has terrible stuttering. (CPU usage goes from 30-40% during normal game to 99%) my in-game FPS is still high (yes, 40 is my high fps ) The only way I found to fix it was to have same FPS as recording. and since I can;t keep constant FPS other than 30, that's what I use. I'm not adding the two, but if one is much higher than the other, will the low one matter? my thinking is that if I have ping 100ms then even if my screen refreshes every 16ms, I won't be able to know what happened in game due to ping.
  5. hello all! I wish to record my games, but I can only do it at 30fps (have to set the limit in game). if my ping is high (~100ms) will the latency due to 30 fps affect the overall latency of the game? I hope my question is clear. (it is in my head)
  6. it depends what I can find online, used. (i think I found a 570 for £30) and the 600W power supply should be enough £100 for all what stress test should I do?
  7. hello forum! I found a deal on a PC CPU: Q6600 RAM: 8GB ram DDR3 (4x2) GPU: hd5450 PSU: 600W power supply (corsair) HDD (not sure of capacity yet) keyboard, mouse, controller Monitor (1680 x 1050 60Hz) Windows 10 Antec 900 gaming case 6-year-old build AIM: mainly to game (not very demanding games. e.g. Overwatch, Skyrim) I know that I will need a better GPU if I get that PC. I'm considering a GTX 570 or similar (my budget on the GPU would be £50 MAX!) I currently have a 4-year old laptop, and it looks like a good deal I'm living in the UK right now What sort of test would it be nice to do (they said they can show it working)? (to test it's working under load) free ones please! THANK YOU!
  8. can't find configurator for UK though. Also, there doesn't seem to be a 256GB SSD. thanks for the info though, didn't really consider HP yet!
  9. Hello! I'm from the UK, My old laptop (might have) died, meaning I will be in the lookout for a new one budget: ~£800 (might be able to do +£200, if it will be worth it) purpose: University stuff + gaming games: currently I'm into overwatch. But I will want to play some more demanding games, and I would like it to last a while. Features: 250GB SSD + HDD some issues that I am thinking about: 1) I'm at uni, so a desktop is (currently) out of the question 2) I am thinking of building a PC later on, so the laptop may not neet to last that long (?) 3) my old laptop had an i7 (2670QM) and a 555m. bad, but it could run overwatch (720p low) 4) 950m vs 960m vs 970m: I know a 950 will be enough for overwatch now, but will it allow me to game (even at low) in a few years time? (my current laptop bearly managed that) 5) i5 vs i7. A few laptops I looked at have i5 and i7 variants (6300HQ, 6700HQ, both quad cores). how much of an effect would this have on each GPU? http://laptopmedia.com/highlights/intel-core-i5-6300hq-vs-intel-core-i7-6700hq-which-is-better-for-gaming-and-is-it-worth-the-extra-bucks-for-the-i7/ (this talks about the 960m, but what about the 970m? are there laptops with an i5 and a 970?)
  10. http://laptopmedia.com/highlights/intel-core-i5-6300hq-vs-intel-core-i7-6700hq-which-is-better-for-gaming-and-is-it-worth-the-extra-bucks-for-the-i7/ this is a nice read. It shows comparisong between the 6700HQ and 6300HQ (both quad cores) IMO, go for the SSD. once you go SSD, you never go back. or, you can buy the i7 one, and add your own SSD (if you can afford it)
  11. thanks for the reply. I doubt the GPU is getting too hot, as it is the iGPU that is being used for the stream (chrome) i have not checked temperatures using a software, however CPU usage is rather low and I could not feel hot air comming out of the vents, as you would expect if the CPU/GPU was getting hot. here's a photo of the event.
  12. I have an issue with a laptop and I need some help. while streaming videos (plugged to a TV via HDMI, screen duplicate) screen suddenly goes black (audio still on), mouse can be seen. Then audio stops. Blue (light blue) screen with white stripes (on laptop, TV turns off), and after a while laptop will restart on its own. Did not seem too hot (air coming out of the air-vent) I tried updating the GPU software (via device manager) but problem still occurred. laptop is generally used for everyday tasks (browsing internet, watching videos, etc, no gaming) laptop specs Lenovo z50 CPU: i7 4510U GPU: 840m RAM: 8 GB most posts online I found talk about GPU clock, however everything is stock, so that shouldn't be an issue, right? any help is welcome! thanks!
  13. wow! gotta love the power of mirrors!
  14. I'm using the keyboard on my laptop. should I say more? It can also help promote my "new pc build idea"
  15. I'm not entering the give-away. (sorry if I didn't make that clear) I wish I could have the horsepower of something like that...
