  1. But it seems all of you are agreeing on the 290 Tri-X
  2. I checked up a little closer now, the 290x is XFX, so I guess it does not have stock cooler
  3. I have the opportunity now to either buy a 290 or a 290x, is there really that big of a difference? I live in Norway and both the 290 and the 290x still sells for about 3100 to 3800kr new (~410-500$). I got an amazing deal with the 290 Tri-X for only 900kr (~120$, used), while I have found a 290x XFX (used) for 1600kr (~210$). I was thinking about using 1500-1600kr (~200$) on the gpu anyways, but the 290 is such a good deal, what do you guys think? Which one would be the smarter choice, save a little money and go for the 290 or go all in for the 290x?
  4. Firstly, thanks for alle the quick replies, I really appreciate that! Yeah I was thinking it was something like this, but I got a little worried when I saw that it was unchecked at ddr3 but checked at the others, like there was a small but important difference
  5. This question may be stupid but, is there a difference between ddr3-1333/ddr3-1600 and regular ddr3 (@1600 or 1866MHz)? Does the "-1600" mean anything? I was checking up the i5-4460 on cpuboss.com and I saw something when I compared it to the 4690k; when I looked at the (compatible) memmory type, the 4690k had a checkmark on ddr3-1333, ddr3-1600 and ddr3 while the 4460 only had the first two checked. Is there a reason for it? Will regular ddr3 memmory work with it?
  6. Please, don't let this thread die now
  7. I just found this comparison of the Titan and the 980. The 980 beat the Titan in every gaming benchmark in 1080p, 1440p and 2160p(4k) (I don't really care about 1080p since I am using a 1440p display). The reason I am considering this is to earn some money and get better performance at the same time.
  8. I made a post some time ago and asked almost the same question, but I got quite different responses. Here's the link to it: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/321571-would-it-be-an-upgrade/
  9. Vessel username: Vegarovitch My two favourite videos are: https://www.vessel.com/videos/JemZ8O7Hy https://www.vessel.com/videos/JYZEYDYx0 Watercooling just looks so awesome, and the other video, well... it's two frickin' Titan X's!
  10. The two 780ti's were sold just now, so those are not an option anymore
  11. I don't really trust gpuboss anymore. Check this out: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-TITAN-BLACK-vs-GeForce-GTX-980
  12. Just to be sure, did you take into consideration that I already own a Titan. The guy above had another opinion about just that.
  13. I am about to sell my GTX Titan (no black edition), and I was going to buy a 980 as an upgrade as well as earn some money. Would the 980 be faster than the Titan at 1440p? Right now I can get two 780ti's for just a little bit more than the 980. Which one should I get? Or, should I even upgrade? Fast replies would be helpful as I am in the middle of negotiating price with the potential buyer of my card.
  14. Thanks to all of you for your responses . I have called the ISP and they are coming in a couple of days to fix a new outlet or whatever they called it
  15. I think this must have been done about 10 years ago. The other part of the cable, that is not used for internet, is an old telephone cable
  16. 13-14mbits at the very most, usually less, when I even have internet.
  17. But it is so horrible. I am only getting 13-14mbits when I should get 20, and I think it is because of that mess. And as I said earlier in the post, it is insanely unstable.
  18. I just found out that we have this super ghetto network connection at home. It is just a plain cable (I don't even know what kind of cable) from the wall that is cut open and ghetto rigged to a splitter or something then connected to our router. We have super unstable internet connection both wired and wireless. I took a few pictures to show you how it looks. As you can see, it's a total mess: Here is a better look at what is actually the internet portion of the mess: That cable goes to this splitter like so: And then comes out at this end and then finally to my router: I can take more pictures if you have to have a better look at the cables or something.
  19. I don't want to buy another card, I just thought that it was smart to upgrade if it didn't even cost anything and that I could even earn some money. The price for a new Titan now is around 7500 to 8500 NOK, I'm not really sure.
  20. I don't do it as of right now, but I would like to have the ability to. So the 980 seems to the obvious winner here if you look aside from rendering?
  21. Today I have a GTX Titan in my system. The GTX 980 seems to be faster in many games (1440p), I haven't seen any benchmarks where the Titan has come in above it. If the 980 is better, then I would like to sell the Titan, buy the 980 and maybe even earn some cash. But would the Titan still be better for heavy computing tasks like rendering 3d works and such? Would it be a smart upgrade? Would it even be an upgrade? Would it be better/equal/worse in gaming, and better/equal/worse in rendering and such that require a lot of gpu horsepower? The thing is that I think I would be able to sell my Titan for around 5000 maybe 5500 NOK and buy the 980 for 4500 NOK if it is better. Making me a profit of between 500 and 1000 NOK, that would be about 60-120 USD at todays exchange rate.
  22. Would it be easier if I just bought a USB mobile network card instead? Like the N900 from TP Link? (http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?model=TL-WDN4200)
  23. What information do you need? I am sure I can find it for you. You probably wouldn't understand that much because it is in norwegian. If it was not clear from the first post, I can't manage to boot because of the wrong wireless card. I searched the web a little more and found out that HP has made a mistake about the whitelist for the dv7-line. The spare part number for what appears to be the 6230 is actually the 1030. I can't believe HP managed to f**k shit up this much.
  24. I have recently got a new 100mbps line. But with my current pc I can only get 16-20mbps. So I suspect it is the wireless network card that bottlenecks the bandwidth. With that in mind I bought a new one, the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (the old one was a Wireless-N 1030) because it has dual band. I chose this particular one because HP is very strict with what can be used where and stuff. As it is an old HP Pavilion dv7-6140eo I checked this pdf: http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842278.pdf. It said that since I use an Intel CPU (page 32) that I could use the 6230 as a replacement for the 1030. Apparantly I was wrong. Because it is not working. I am screwed now because I had an accident and broke the 1030 that I used before. What can I do to make the new one work? At astartup when the 6230 is plugged in I get an error telling me to remove the unknown networks card and then restart. Please, I need help I have an HP Pavilion dv7-6140eo Intel i7-2630QM 64-bit Windows 7 8GB RAM
