  1. I am experiencing some issues while playing some games. I noticed this first when I tried to play WoW. The game will suddenly and regularly freeze for 30 seconds or so, then the screen goes black and I can continue playing. I am not sure about the interval, but I guess it happens every 10 minutes or so, and it seems to happened more often if I have just died in game. Because of the crashing I tried to play some other games, like Satisfactory and Subnautica. These games are not playable at all, as they seem to crash within a certain amount of time after starting them (roughly 3-5 minutes in). The error I get in those Unreal Engine games is something about not being able to find a D3D device (Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x887A0006 - 'HUNG'). This all started after my brother lent me his 1080ti (which is better than my old Kepler based GPU). He also noticed similar issues while he was playing WoW as well. I didn't really notice at first, because I played games that were fairly easy to run. I tried to run some stress tests like FurMark and Superposition to see if I could replicate any of these freezes. If I run the Superposition 1080p Extreme benchmark It will likely crash around scene 8 or 14 (out of 17), but I got it to finish once for some reason. I can run the Superposition 8K Medium without crashing multiple times. FurMark on the other hand seems to hang regularly when the GPU temp reaches 80C, for a second at a time. I tried to add a cable from my PSU to the GPU as I was only using one 8-pin split cable going to the two 8-pins on the GPU. FurMark doesn't seem hickup anymore after I did this. What do you think is the problem here, and is there anything I can do to fix it?

I had originally planned to buy the Ryzen 5 5600X, but that cpu is out of stock in everywhere in my country. Thehe 5600X costs about 400 USD where I live, the 5800X (which is also out of stock) costs about 590 USD. Becuase of the Black Friday sales going on right now I found a 10850k for only 490 USD (usually 600 USD). Should I go for the 10850k and get the multicore performance or wait for the 5600X for the single core. I do 3D work in 3ds Max, Maya and Blender and I don't know if the single core or multi thread performance is more important in those applications. I play games on this system too. Should I go for the 5600x for 400 USD, the 10850k for 490 USD or a 10700k/9900k for 440 USD? Edit: I think I am leaning towards the 10850k

Budget: Not important but, NOK1449 or NOK1699 Country: Norway Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Maya/Blender and playing games Other details: I am currently using an i7-3820@4.5Ghz with 4x4Gb of 1600Mhz DDR3 and a GTX 1080ti. I am planning to upgrade my cpu when Ryzen 4000 launches, so I'm going to need a new motherboard and some RAM. I have found some kits of RAM that i am considering to buy. Both are 2x16GB Corsair LPX 3200Mhz but one is CL16-18-18-36 while the other is CL16-19-19-36. The 'slower' kit costs NOK 1449 while the other costs NOK 1699. My guess is that I should go for the cheapest because the difference is miniscule, but I know that Ryzen is picky about RAM.
  5. I understand that wireless connections can't be truly lag free, but when it's less than 50ms lag we're talking about it still is very close. I would love to get that low latency when using my computer while still being able to connect to my phone. Are there any headsets all of you know of that has both bluetooth and 2.4Ghz connectivity?
  6. I have rescently been looking for a wireless headset because I'm so sick of getting cables tangled up in everything. I want a close to lag free headset that I can use for both my pc and my phone (android). As I understand it you most times have to choose either, lag free or connectivity between both devices. Bluetooth headsets can connect to most things, like laptop, phone etc, but also has alot of lag. "Lag free" headsets on the other hand often needs a USB dongle, and therefore not being able to connect to a phone. I have seen some videos on youtube that delays the sound to simulate audio lag and I don't seem to notice the delay when the delay is less than 100ms (which I found surprising since that is equal to about 6 frames at 60Hz). I have tried my friends bluetooth headsets and they have very noticeable lag (300-400ms). The headsets I have looked at are the Steelseries Arctis 7 and Corsair HS70, but both of those need USB dongles. The Steelseries Siberia 840 seems to have both bluetooth and lag free connections, and costs only about 10$ more than the Arctis 7. The addition of the swappable batteries is also very nice. Are there any other headset any of you would recommend in this sort of pricerange (~150$) that offer low latency and good connectivity (i.e. laptops and phones)?
  7. I'm not 100% sure that this is the right place to ask my question, but it is related to my programming. I want to have a 20% chance for something to happen, which I can increment each time it happens. The way I have implemented this into my code is that I use a function to create a random number between 1 and 100 (I don't know how this number is calculated, but it seems random), then check if that random number is smaller than, or equal, to my variabel (20). My question is, would this produce an output that comes through 20% of the time?
  8. Looks like we will be using Autodesk programs, like Maya, and probably some others as well. The spec requirements for the BA in Animation says that 16GB is the minimum and that 32GB really is preferred.

  11. The 1060 laptop only ships with 16GB (2x8GB and no empty slots). Upgrading it to 32GB myself would actually cost 330$ USD.

  13. I have to buy a laptop for my studies. I have been looking at some laptops with 1060s and 1070s. Both laptops have a 7700HQ and 32GB of RAM (Optionally 16GB). I live in Norway and laptops are generally expensive. Laptop with 1060: GTX 1060 6GB, i7-7700HQ, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 32GB RAM (2600 NOK/330$ USD less for 16GB version) 32GB version - 16,330 NOK (roughly 2070$ USD) 16GB version - 13,730 NOK (roughly 1740$ USD) Laptop with 1070: GTX 1070 8GB, i7-7700HQ, 512GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 32GB RAM (800 NOK/100$ USD less for 16GB version) 32GB version - 19,790 NOK (roughly 2500$ USD) 16GB version - 18,990 NOK (roughly 2400$ USD) Is the 1070 worth the extra money for animation and rendering? And would I regret buying a laptop with 32GB of RAM instead of going for the cheaper 16GB option?
  14. Sometimes when I turn my pc off with sleep mode, I get a beep error message when I start it again some hours later. It is the same 3 short beeps every time it has happened. I have a Gigabyte GA-X79-UD5 motherboard. It says on Gigabytes website that 3 short beeps means "basic memory 64K address check error". Why does this happen and what does it mean? I have 4x4GB DDR3.
  15. This might be in the wrong subforum, but it was the closest I coul find. I don't know much about electronics, so this might be a really stupid question. I know that batteries have a rated voltage, like regular AA batteries are rated at 1.5 volts and li-ion batteries are typically at 3.6-3.7 volts. The battery's voltage drops during use, and a dead AA battery is around 1.2 volts. Let's say that I have a device that requires 1.5 volts to operate, but how does it even work at all? I know this sounds dumb, but I just can't get it, because the battery's voltage drops when it is used, so how can it still work when the voltage is lower?
  16. The Corsair Carbide Quiet 400Q is actually smaller than the Eclipse P400S albeit a little more expensive. I also made a little chart for some of the EATX cases I found that compares the size.
  17. The In-Win is too pricey for me and the Corsair 780T is not sold where I live. This one is also too expensive for me. The Phanteks Eclipse P400S is the smallest I have found so far (46L vs 76L of the HAF X), and it is not as expensive as the others.
  18. The system i currently have is built in the Cooler Master HAF X and it is just too big, and also not very quiet. There are lots of smaller cases than this one, but many of those can't fit the huge EATX motherboard i have. Does anyone know about a smaller case that would still have room for the motherboard? It would be nice if it was quieter too, but it's not a requirement. In hindsight I see that going for an EATX motherboard was a bad idea. Now that I want a smaller case I have to settle with a smaller but still big case. Either that or buy a new motherboard which makes me buy a new CPU which makes me have to buy new RAM. A new CPU, motherboard and RAM can be quite expensive.
  19. I did the same benchmark as before, both 800 Mhz and 400 Mhz in Afterburner. I used the Afterburner hardware monitor this time and it showed me 800 Mhz... both times. It appears that the underclocking did not actually affect the memory speed. I reduced it from 800 MHz down to 400 MHz, but nothing actually happened. That explains why the benchmark showed very similar results.
  20. What you say may be true, but I think my case is a little different. I downloaded MSI Afterburner and underclocked the GPU to only 400 MHz on the memory clock and did nothing to the core clock. I did a benchmark before and after and it performed just as well, and GPU-Z still only showed 216 MHz. I thought that GPU-Z was going to show half the memory clock, but it didn't.

  22. It could be, but the memory clock never goes above 216 MHz, not even at the beginning when it is still cool. But why is the memory bandwidth so much less than it should be?
  23. I still use my laptop from 2012. It has caused many problems over the years, mostly because of the two GPUs, integrated (Intel) and dedicated (AMD). I think I have at least managed to make it so that it is the dedicated GPU that is being used when running games and such. It is an old 6770m, which runs at 725 MHz core clock and 800 MHz memory clock. Well it is at least supposed to be running at those speeds. The core clock runs at the speed it is supposed to, but the memory clock is stuck at 216 Mhz, even though the GPU is under 100% load. This slow memory speed causes the GPU to have a memory bandwidth of only 13.8 GB/s while it should have as much as 57.6 GB/s. This info was gathered using GPU-Z. I would assume the reduction in memory clock speed causes games to run slower. My questions are: 1. Is it possible to make the clock speed run at its intended speed againg? 2. Will a higher (normal) memory frequency and memory bandwidth make any difference? I belive the laptop is an HP Pavilion dv7-6140eo. Intel Core-i7 2630QM at stock speed, 8Gb DDR3 RAM at 667Mhz, AMD Radeon HD 6770M.
  24. The memory speed of the GPU in my laptop should be 800 MHz as stated in GPU-Z, but it is actually running at only 216 MHz. I don't think it is caused by throttling because it never goes above 216 MHz even at the beggining of a gaming session (While gaming it can reach a wopping 93C. The high temperature is likely caused by clogged air intakes, whis PC is not quiet). What could be the reason for this? The core clock is where it should be, at 725 MHz, so the memory speed is the only thing that is being affected by whatever it is that is wrong.   25. However it looks like it is being used when a program that requires more GPU power is being run. I always thought that it just sat there and did nothing, must have been because I didn't look at it while such a program was running. It seems that when I set the BIOS to 'statitc' it just disable det dGPU. Just turning it back to 'dynamic' as it should be was the fix. Should just not have messed with it in the first place.
