    More to the point, your home contents insurer might take a dim view of you continuing to use a device that has specifically been recalled due to the risk of overheating and melting things if yours actually were to cause a fire, and refuse to cover the damage. Could end up costing considerably more than the 1200 bucks/euros for a new 4080.

    Rubber gaskets are an effective way of establishing water-proofness through contact pressure, and are also easy to replace (they are capable of holding back several atmospheres worth of water pressure). The necessary mounting pressure is also be easily achievable without single-use glue.

    I don't know if it is EU law, but at least in Germany software cannot be locked to specific hardware and, for example Microsoft, has to let you use your Windows 10 license on another PC. It would be an interesting test case if somebody were to challenge a TPM hardware id ban in court over here.

    Do your sunglasses have any special reflective coatings or do they maybe not sit perfectly so they aren't always in a position that works? FaceID works fairly reliably with mine (I do wear glasses normally though, so I have my primary FaceID with glasses and my secondary without so it works when I'm in bed and don't have my glasses on).

    It takes about a minute to reactivate FaceID with a new face if your face really changes so much that it no longer recognizes you.

    Given how fast the "no crypto" cards got cracked, it wouldn't take very long at all for that to be circumvented.

    My motherboard has a TPM 2.0 header. Can I buy any TPM 2.0 daughterboard or do I have to go with one made by my motherboard's manufacturer?

    Or they shipped with a TPM socket but no TPM chip, like a lot of motherboards in the consumer channel do.

    With the TPM requirement, I guess I'm keeping Windows 10 on this PC. TPM 2.0 modules are anywhere between 50 and 90 euro on Amazon, and I'm not spending that to get Windows 11. Maybe my next motherboard will have it pre-installed.

    The warranty starts at time of purchase though, not when the product is released. So if a smartphone remains on sale for 3 years after release to market and has a 2 year warrnty, they can expect to have customers with active warranty support 5 years after the product was released.

    The same principle applies Double the time that the shutter is open for, halve the ISO to get the same exposure levels.

    Assuming you keep the aperture the same: Let's say you take a photo at 1/1000th of a second at 2000 ISO. If you increase the exposure time to 1/500th of a second you can halve the ISO to 1000 and get the same overall exposure. If you drop the speed to 1/250th you can halve the ISO again to 500. 1/125th of a second -> 250 ISO. 1/64th of a second -> 125 ISO. Of course, at some point you'll have a shutter speed that is too slow to freeze motion and get a sharp picture.

    "APSC" isn't a standard dimension set, rather like "medium-format" which can be a whole range of sizes depending on the manufacturer. For example, Nikon's APSC sensors are slightly larger than Canon's at 23.5mm on the long edge compared to the 22.3-22.5 on the long edge in Canon's crop sensor bodies, giving a 1.5x crop factor over Canon's 1.6. Don't know if that answers your question though.

    What 35mm equivalent range do you want? 200mm? 400? 700? 1000?

    To be honest, I wouldn't consider any lens longer than 200mm without some kind of active stabilization. It makes so much of a difference (my 300PF feels like it's on a gimbal when VR is on). It's hard enough keeping a moving animal in frame at 50+ metres as it is, you don't want to have to contend with even more erratic movement from camera shake on top of that, along with having to run at 1/4000 and 3200+ ISO in broad daylight to compensate for it.

    Import tax is applied at port of entry. You will probably either get a bill from HMRC which needs to be paid before they release the goods, or the postal service will ask you to go to your local post office to pay the import tax. The standard tax rate is 20%, however you may also have to pay a handling fee to HMRC on top of that. The last time I bought from overseas, the carrier added the customs fees to the shipping cost.

    Very Image quality is close to the 2.8 but it weighs half as much, and it cost me about 350 euro on sale IIRC. Favourite lens after the 300 PF.
